Used the dropbox app and transferred the installer from my Evo to Transformer that way. Worked perfectly to get installed on the TF...

To each, their own. I can't get my head around split thumb keyboards, probably because I spend many hours every day typing on real ones. (My day job involves a *lot* of writing.)
I find Asus' built-in Swype-knockoff keyboard far easier than a thumb keyboard, and am looking forward to giving the real deal a go, so long as it doesn't cause issues with the real keyboard.
Just installed it.
Pretty cool, you can press the button on the far right and make the keyboard smaller so it's easier to swype around on a tablet screen!
Everyone was saying Swype would be pointless on a 10 inch screen but looks like they found a workaround.
Now if only the browser typing lag was fixed I could actually fall in love with my Transformer.

I hear you. I'm in marketing and also write for a living. However, that's why I got the keyboard dock. I've yet to find ANY virtual keyboard where I can even approach the 80 words a minute I can type on a physical keyboard (and I get pretty close to that on the keyboard dock).
The split keyboard JUST works on the TF--the tablet's almost too wide for it. But even so I can get decent enough speed with it. I found that to use Swype, even with the small version to the right or left, I still had to hold with one hand and swipe with the other. So, I haven't found it so different from Thumb Keyboard in split mode, in that respect.
I'll probably give it another try, though.
testing swype in the default browser now. installed fine in my transformer. works fast and great in other apps. it's really too bad the default browser lags so much. I can type faster than the words are appearing on this reply.

I know the swype team reads these forums, so if you do:
Add the numberpad/arrow keys on the sides of the smaller keyboards, that would be awesome.
I think it's an Android limitation, but if you could make the non keyboard areas transparent, that would be killer. (like on the ipad split keyboard)
The grips need to be removed on the left and right sides when aligned left and right.
Awesome modifications for the keyboard btw, worked better than expected.
Installed on mine, zero issues. It's about time, Swype!

I got the keyboard dock for the exact same reason. Well, that and the extra battery life. But without the keyboard (which I don't keep attached all the time, or I wouldn't have gotten a tablet in the first place), the Swype-knockoff keyboard just works for me. I can two-finger type pretty darned fast with the pad in my lap, or Swype at plenty good enough speed with one hand while holding the tab with the other hand. Surprisingly well, to me anyway, but this is my first Swype-like device.

The stock thumb keyboard has the swype feature!
Go to setting->language&input->keyboard settings->configure input methods->asus keyboard->settings->trace input settings->enable trace input tick this option.
Then you have swype.
But Swype seems to have better prediction.
I grabbed the installer via Dolphin HD set as a desktop browser without any problems

I was using the stock "swype like" feature and it was horrible...
Too laggy. Sticking with Thumb Keyboard for the time being.

Swype is in a different league as the Asus keyboard won't punctuate or make the wild leap of understanding that my swype needs to with my poor typing ability
How do you install this swype? I love swype on my phone, but the stock "swype" on the Asus is worthless. I tried looking for Swype 3.0 on both my phone and TF, no luck funding anything... Is this method applicable to rooted TF's only? Mine is not rooted.
Not bad but I dont think anything beats the Swiftkey for Tablet keyboard.

Is there any way to.get swype anymore? I hate the streaks keyboard. JusT makes mistakes constantly. Iv never had this problem with other touch screens.

I've gotta admit I'm liking the keyboard! I know most people hate the numeric keypad but I actually find it handy. It's far more responsive and acurate than my HTC hero ever was. The only thing I miss is the whole predictive word thingy were you can select the word you want after typing in a couple of the letters, that and auto correct.
The Dell Streak keyboard (holding the device horizontal) is awesome. Holding vertical is a little bit tricky... would it be possible to use swype in vertical and normal in horizontal?

You can turn on word suggestion and auto-correct in the input settings, they're pretty effective too. Don't know why they weren't on as default.

Don't link to swype, they treat it as warez, and it will get xda-dev in trouble.
i must be the only person who HATES swype...dont get it..takes me longer to txt.
I would love the droid x/evo/any htc kyboard haha...anybody ever get any of these working?

I just tried swipe - wow its pretty good, even if you don't use the tracing (which is very impressive) the larger keyboard works great for big fingers like mine.
Just wish I could work out how to get a new line.
Well, here's my two pennies worth on the keyboard issue: being a bit old fashioned, I didn't fancy the idea of swype. I'd rather have waited for a decent tap-style keyboard but out of boredom I tried it out, I love it! Even using it as a tap keyboard its miles better than the stock one, but after trying out the swype method I'm really impressed with how quickly I got accustomed to it. I'm making far fewer mistakes than I used to on the stock kb. I'm sure it'll take some time to get used to where some of the symbols are, but I'm more than happy to persevere with it as basic typing really is outstandingly easy. Often I think there's no way it's going to get this word straight away, but it does even if my swyping is not that accurate. I'd go a far as saying it's almost revolutionary! Ok, maybe I'm getting a bit carried away, but I've got really big hands and was struggling to use the old keyboard.
Only wish is that there was a close button for the keyboard as sometimes I can't see where I'm typing, especially on web pages, doesn't happen often enough to bother me though.
I find the swype method a bit redundant on the streak as the keys are big enough to type quite accurately

You can also hold down 'Menu' to make it disappear (and also appear anywhere, for some reason). AND if you have the default Streak keyboard in landscape mode, there's a blue arrow in the top left that closes it. You're spoilt for choice on the Streak!
Also, a great keyboard replacement is Swiftkey beta (free until at least 13 Sept). It's in the Market. It uses some pretty advanced prediction techniques that works and learns really well (it even reads your SMS history to teach itself!) The Streak isn't on the list of compatible devices but I can confirm it works great and fills the screen properly (unlike some other keyboard replacements I've tried).

It's posted elsewhere on here but please do yourself a favor and go sign up for the Swiftkey beta (or called VIP) to access it. It's downright awesome. Apart from a standard layout they offer a thumb keyboard that works very very well. There are a bunch of customizable options and the UI/design is very honeycombish so it blends right in. I'm using it now and while it takes a little while to get used to using a thumb keyboard it's much more comfortable when you're holding the tablet.
I'm loving it.
It's okay, but the actual Thumb Keyboard app has a much nicer layout imo. Hopefully SwiftKey will listen on their forums.

Ive actually got a newer version than the one in the VIP but thats becauser of a specific issue i pointed out in the beta program. Its ok but the text prediction on the version on my Droid is WAY better. I disabled prediction on my Xoom, still get suggestions though.
I saw this on Android Central a while ago, looks pretty nice. I'll check it out when I can.
Tried out Swiftkey on my Xoom, and the thumb layout keys are way to small for me. Thumb Keyboard is still much easier for me to type with--I'm up to about 40 words a minute with it, and can't get anywhere near that with Swiftkey.

That's the feedback we all gave in the official alpha Google group, too much black space, too small of keys. They've already addressed issues for us. I hated Thumb Keyboard, uninstalled it before the 15 minutes were up. SwiftKey's text prediction is just great, Thumb Keyboard can suck it.
both are great but at the end of the day I found myself going back to thumb keyboard

Maybe it's me but I find the regular keyboard or SwiftKey easier to type as in like on a real keyboard. It's just too damn awkward typing with my thumbs all the time. I do like the Tron look of SwiftKey though.

Another vote here for Thumb Keyboard. I first bought it for my DX, and really liked it there; I had high hopes for it on the Xoom, and I was not disappointed. This should have been the keyboard that shipped with the Xoom. If the standard Xoom keyboard was my only choice, I would have returned the Xoom after one day. I believe that for SwiftKey to even a prayer they need to split the portrait mode keyboard the way Thumb Keyboard is. I've got big hands, and the stretch to type in portrait (my default orientation) is too much for me.
I was using thumb keyboard until this beta came out. I think I agree about button size, they need to be a little bigger. Aside from that, it's great.
One thing I like is that SwiftKey still shows text prediction and spell check with a bluetooth keyboard connected. That was lacking with the stock and thumb keyboards.

You all now that Swiftkey for tablets has a thumb keyboard built in right? Are you saying you don't like that or were you not aware? The default is qwerty but there is an excellent thumb keyboard built in which is what I use. It's better than Thumb Keyboard IMHO.

It seems far too small for me, cool looking as it may be.
Swiftkey confirmed for awesome. In response to a query last night about general availability for HC, they sent me a beta invite.
Maybe not so exclusive, but I thought it was a nice touch.
Still getting used to it, but I think what I like best is how the "tron" theme fits in with the rest of the stock HC theme.
Also... make it create sentences from scratch! Type a word then just start hitting space. Hilarious

I got Tswype Pro (but I would like find a free version or maybe I will pay 100THB) but it's really nice and support Thai language so I am happy works on A500
Thumb keyboard is pretty nice, but I find myself switching it off with stock every now and then because I want to type home-row periodically. The other great keyboard is the Hacker Keyboard because of the directional arrows. I miss those on stock. I just wish they would clean it up visually so that it looks as simple and clean as stock.

I've been switching between thumb keyboard and flext9 keyboard. The voice to text feature works great on flext9 as does the handwriting feature. Thumb keyboard is still my favorite straight typing keyboard though.
I bought flext9 to use with my stylus but thats not working out so well. Ended up back to using stock. Will try those suggestions.
waiting for swyft to release thier tablet version. I think its in beta right now.
Love it on my phone. very intuitive.
Stock really isn't bad at all. It's just about as good as a touch screen keyboard can get.

+1 for the Hacker's Keyboard. I like having the numbers and symbols in the standard location rather than like a phone. I have to have the arrow keys since the HTC Evo's Sense KB has them and I've gotten used to them. That being said, I have moved on to Swype on my Evo.

Thanks FYI, recent versions (including the current Market release) have a config setting controlling the on-key hint display for the alternate characters, you can turn them off entirely if you want an uncluttered keyboard. The prerelease builds (v1.14rc5 or later) at the project page have additional layouts and plug-in language-specific completion dictionaries. Please let me know if you have feedback.

HTC_IME Mod, it has the great HTC sense keyboard with some great tweak built in and is available free in these forums.
The Market version of Gingerbread. Largest keys and best layout imo. Closest thing you can get to the Iphone's which has always worked best for me.

Miniature bluetooth keyboards eliminate the necessity. Otherwise it's just a netbook.
I can't believe no one has mentioned SwifKeyX! It is the best keyboard at predicting text.
Swype all day unless I have to type in sometimes email or something that consists of numbers and letters together, then I use the physical keyboard.

Gingerbread (from the market as well) for this guy. Easy to use. I do wish there was a way to have that keyboard but have swype enabled for it. I think that would be the best of both worlds!

I tried a few of the ones you mentioned.
In the end, I wound up purchasing Thumb Keyboard 4. Well worth it.
It has quite a few features.
I enlarged the height of my space bar, because I always found myself hitting the notification bar at bottom of the screen.
I also like the Text Shortcuts. I can save words and phrases I use often, and enter them when needed.
I can now type just as fast on my tablet, as I can on my Android phone.
I was going to get an external keyboard for typing out emails. The more I use Thumb Keyboard, I don't think I will need one.

I agree. I use Thumb Keyboard 4 on my GT as well as my Droid X. It is extremely customizable and works well. Word prediction is excellent as far as I'm concerned. Well worth the price!

Thumb keyboard is the best. I was really hoping to like swiftkey but I never grew comfortable using it. One of the best features of TK4? The tab key! So useful in filling out forms on the web.
I also like the arrow directional keys on Thumb Keyboard.
It really helps in trying to precisely position the cursor when selecting text.
