Is there any way to.get swype anymore? I hate the streaks keyboard. JusT makes mistakes constantly. Iv never had this problem with other touch screens.
Couldnt we get a better landscape keyboard and maybe a short style keyboard in potrait like on the storm?

I've gotta admit I'm liking the keyboard! I know most people hate the numeric keypad but I actually find it handy. It's far more responsive and acurate than my HTC hero ever was. The only thing I miss is the whole predictive word thingy were you can select the word you want after typing in a couple of the letters, that and auto correct.
The Dell Streak keyboard (holding the device horizontal) is awesome. Holding vertical is a little bit tricky... would it be possible to use swype in vertical and normal in horizontal?

You can turn on word suggestion and auto-correct in the input settings, they're pretty effective too. Don't know why they weren't on as default.

Don't link to swype, they treat it as warez, and it will get xda-dev in trouble.
i must be the only person who HATES swype...dont get it..takes me longer to txt.

I just tried swipe - wow its pretty good, even if you don't use the tracing (which is very impressive) the larger keyboard works great for big fingers like mine.
Just wish I could work out how to get a new line.
Well, here's my two pennies worth on the keyboard issue: being a bit old fashioned, I didn't fancy the idea of swype. I'd rather have waited for a decent tap-style keyboard but out of boredom I tried it out, I love it! Even using it as a tap keyboard its miles better than the stock one, but after trying out the swype method I'm really impressed with how quickly I got accustomed to it. I'm making far fewer mistakes than I used to on the stock kb. I'm sure it'll take some time to get used to where some of the symbols are, but I'm more than happy to persevere with it as basic typing really is outstandingly easy. Often I think there's no way it's going to get this word straight away, but it does even if my swyping is not that accurate. I'd go a far as saying it's almost revolutionary! Ok, maybe I'm getting a bit carried away, but I've got really big hands and was struggling to use the old keyboard.
Only wish is that there was a close button for the keyboard as sometimes I can't see where I'm typing, especially on web pages, doesn't happen often enough to bother me though.
I find the swype method a bit redundant on the streak as the keys are big enough to type quite accurately

You can also hold down 'Menu' to make it disappear (and also appear anywhere, for some reason). AND if you have the default Streak keyboard in landscape mode, there's a blue arrow in the top left that closes it. You're spoilt for choice on the Streak!
Also, a great keyboard replacement is Swiftkey beta (free until at least 13 Sept). It's in the Market. It uses some pretty advanced prediction techniques that works and learns really well (it even reads your SMS history to teach itself!) The Streak isn't on the list of compatible devices but I can confirm it works great and fills the screen properly (unlike some other keyboard replacements I've tried).

Try swiftkey, it is so much better, using the standard keyboard I was making some many mistakes and activating the caps lock all the time, the only thing I miss is the left and right keys

nice. i honestly couldn't give a ****e if multi was on x10 or not. If it did, that'd be great, but if not, meh. Don't understand the people that would pass on this phone just because it doesn't have multitouch.
yea me too, but zooming on the browser and google maps was getting a bit irritating for me. although downloading opera solves this issue with the "double tap" feature.
i just thought i should post this so those who lack of multi touch IS an issue might reconsider.

Zooming is not a problem but multitouch will be required by games most likely.
This will affect gamers but for somebody else the missing MT it shouldn't be a problem.
Having gestures all over the phone will help a lot.
The only place that multitouch is really useful is the onscreen keyboard (especially for those who type fast, there'll be lest missed inputs)

its never been a problem for me even on a single touch resistive screen. also- i hate full qwerty keyboards on phones. they're too cramped and u need 2 hands most of the time. i use T9 pad (i downloaded the HTC_IME)
I use the HTC_IME as well and I have 0 missed keys Typed a long post earlier today.

Not a problem for me either. And I used Fingerkeyboard on my X1 before I got my X10.
Any confirmation that this is coming to the X10? The video shows the X10 Mini.
Honeycomb optimized! Got it and it looks great. A bit laggy however (using it right now). Had trouble getting it to recognize my Transformer as a Android device. I had to dropbox the swype installer via my Evo 4G to get it on my Transformer. Anyone else got it on their Transformer? Thoughts?

Used the dropbox app and transferred the installer from my Evo to Transformer that way. Worked perfectly to get installed on the TF...

To each, their own. I can't get my head around split thumb keyboards, probably because I spend many hours every day typing on real ones. (My day job involves a *lot* of writing.)
I find Asus' built-in Swype-knockoff keyboard far easier than a thumb keyboard, and am looking forward to giving the real deal a go, so long as it doesn't cause issues with the real keyboard.
Just installed it.
Pretty cool, you can press the button on the far right and make the keyboard smaller so it's easier to swype around on a tablet screen!
Everyone was saying Swype would be pointless on a 10 inch screen but looks like they found a workaround.
Now if only the browser typing lag was fixed I could actually fall in love with my Transformer.

I hear you. I'm in marketing and also write for a living. However, that's why I got the keyboard dock. I've yet to find ANY virtual keyboard where I can even approach the 80 words a minute I can type on a physical keyboard (and I get pretty close to that on the keyboard dock).
The split keyboard JUST works on the TF--the tablet's almost too wide for it. But even so I can get decent enough speed with it. I found that to use Swype, even with the small version to the right or left, I still had to hold with one hand and swipe with the other. So, I haven't found it so different from Thumb Keyboard in split mode, in that respect.
I'll probably give it another try, though.
testing swype in the default browser now. installed fine in my transformer. works fast and great in other apps. it's really too bad the default browser lags so much. I can type faster than the words are appearing on this reply.

I know the swype team reads these forums, so if you do:
Add the numberpad/arrow keys on the sides of the smaller keyboards, that would be awesome.
I think it's an Android limitation, but if you could make the non keyboard areas transparent, that would be killer. (like on the ipad split keyboard)
The grips need to be removed on the left and right sides when aligned left and right.
Awesome modifications for the keyboard btw, worked better than expected.
Installed on mine, zero issues. It's about time, Swype!

I got the keyboard dock for the exact same reason. Well, that and the extra battery life. But without the keyboard (which I don't keep attached all the time, or I wouldn't have gotten a tablet in the first place), the Swype-knockoff keyboard just works for me. I can two-finger type pretty darned fast with the pad in my lap, or Swype at plenty good enough speed with one hand while holding the tab with the other hand. Surprisingly well, to me anyway, but this is my first Swype-like device.
Not sure if any one has mentioned this:
The stock thumb keyboard has the swype feature!
Go to setting->language&input->keyboard settings->configure input methods->asus keyboard->settings->trace input settings->enable trace input tick this option.
Then you have swype.
But Swype seems to have better prediction.
I grabbed the installer via Dolphin HD set as a desktop browser without any problems

I was using the stock "swype like" feature and it was horrible...
Too laggy. Sticking with Thumb Keyboard for the time being.

Swype is in a different league as the Asus keyboard won't punctuate or make the wild leap of understanding that my swype needs to with my poor typing ability
How do you install this swype? I love swype on my phone, but the stock "swype" on the Asus is worthless. I tried looking for Swype 3.0 on both my phone and TF, no luck funding anything... Is this method applicable to rooted TF's only? Mine is not rooted.
Not bad but I dont think anything beats the Swiftkey for Tablet keyboard.

HTC_IME Mod, it has the great HTC sense keyboard with some great tweak built in and is available free in these forums.
The Market version of Gingerbread. Largest keys and best layout imo. Closest thing you can get to the Iphone's which has always worked best for me.

Though personally I'm fine with any keyboard..I was never abe to take advantage of the "swiping" in swype or the suggestions..I just type out everything manually on the screen anyways :/

Miniature bluetooth keyboards eliminate the necessity. Otherwise it's just a netbook.
I can't believe no one has mentioned SwifKeyX! It is the best keyboard at predicting text.
Swype all day unless I have to type in sometimes email or something that consists of numbers and letters together, then I use the physical keyboard.

Gingerbread (from the market as well) for this guy. Easy to use. I do wish there was a way to have that keyboard but have swype enabled for it. I think that would be the best of both worlds!
I'm sitting here typing words and it will take a word that I have completely spelled correctly yet when I hit the space bar it replaces it with something completely different. The other issue is that it will put the word I'm typing and the address a whole new additional word after the space that I had ZERO intention of even typing ( when I just typed even it changed it to event when hitting space )
In the last 6 months I've had a iPhone 6 and a Note 4 and either of them we're NEARLY this bad .
That's why 3rd party keyboards are a thing. I loved google keyboard, and now use SwiftKey for realtime use of 2 languages.
Switch to something else like Google Keyboard. The stock predictive text stinks and it also uses more resources than Google Keyboard.

The Samsung keyboard runs on the SwiftKey engine, so whatever issues the OP is having with text replacement will not change. What the OP needs to do is to disable Auto replace in the keyboard settings.
Works fine for me. When the keyboard is about to auto-correct, there will be a check mark at the top of the keyboard that you can tap so it won't correct the word.
One of the first things I did was chuck on the google keyboard with number row.
I don't like the Samsung keyboard and switched to the Google Keyboard straight away. But there is one small problem... I can't get rid of the annoying keyboard switcher icon on the top left! I switch off the Samsung keyboard which makes it disappear briefly but it switches itself back on.

I absolutely love the keyboard on the S6. For me it is by far the best one out there in terms of predictions, looks, fastness of typing and functions.

I agree. I just try to find the one that sucks the least for my fingers and typing/swyping speed. Everyone will be different, because of finger size and habit of typing speeds etc. The one that sucks the least for me on the S6 is Google's keyboard. But I got to say, the stock keyboard is a real close 2nd, not only because it sucks less than other keyboards, but because you can resize the keyboard, and that bumps up the less suck factor a tad more. Both still suck, but they suck the least. Like you said, varying degrees of suck!

It's been that way since the S4. I used to use SwiftKey anyway, but I eventually moved to the Google Keyboard. But that kept crashing in certain apps and I hated the lack of long press options for punctuation (punctuation selection was awful).
I use the Samsung keyboard now, but I disabled the word replacement feature. It was a nightmare typing in web addresses and stuff like that. If I wanted to write, "4.3 seconds", it came out, "4. 3 Seconds".
Like SwiftKey, the prediction gets better the more you use it.

Maybe check the language. It sounds like you're trying to type in German or Dutch. Possibly Afrikaans.
@op dumb people shouldn't use smartphone
came over from an old HTC and just took the keyboard for granted, used swype and the autocorrect was pretty ok, helpful, close enough most of the time
been on the note 4 for months now and the keyboard is just horrible, it takes me more time fixing brutal autocorrects and spaces and just messed up text all the time
what is everyone doing to get good usable keyboarding on this thing? is a new rom necessary?

I've had the opposite experience - I find the note 4 keyboard to be way more accurate than other keyboards in both typing accuracy and word predictions.

Never really noticed, but auto-correct and word prediction is literally the first thing I turn off on any keyboard. Hate 'em, especially as someone who doesn't want to end up as the next post on damnyouautocorrect.com and all.
In all other respects, I don't mind the stock Samsung keyboard, and I actually like the "swipe to move cursor" feature, even if the sensitivity on that could still use a bit of tuning to feel as good as one of those BlackBerry trackballs or trackpads. I also like the hold for symbols and accents and the dedicated number row, things that I hate not having on AOSP and Google keyboards.
At least Android lets you choose from any sort of soft input panel that you want. Even Palm OS-era Graffiti is an option, and I'd probably use it if the cut/copy/paste strokes worked and I could customize the strokes...
