[Q] [q] transformer won't turn on

i tried to do all instructions posted here, but i can't do anything to turn it on. no matter what combination of buttons i tried didn't work. i have time until Monday when i was planing to ship it back to amazon to try to revive it... anyone has any idea...
it doesn't react on anything, it doesn't make any sound when i plug it in usb in pc.... just nothing!!!! please help me!!!

This just happened to me yesterday. Have you tried holding the power button for more 15 seconds to force a shutdown and then wait 5 seconds, then hold the power button for 4 seconds to turn it on again?
If that doesn't work (as was in my case), get android screencast (available here on xda) and see if you can view the transformer screen on the pc (must already have usb debugging enabled).
Using the screencast I figured out my screen was dead (the touchscreen was working with my fingers but screen showed nothing). I just sent mines off for RMA today...hopefully this won't be the case with yours.

unfortunately pc doesn't detect transformer at all.... i am desparate

Are you sure the transformer is on when connected it to the pc? I would hold the power button for 15 seconds to force a shutdown, then connect it to the charger for about 5 minutes so I know its def on. Then connect to the pc and see if the internal storage shows up.
If not, the other option is to test it using a hdmi cable....and if that doesn't work then it sounds like your transformer is not turning on at all which either means the battery is dead (needs charging) or the device is completely broke!

it is final - the device is dead.... on the bright side i can still return it to amazon....

sorry to hear...well at least you can return it to amazon. I'm going to have to wait for Asus...and whats worse is Im leaving to go back to the UK in exactly two weeks (what timing!!). If it doesn't arrive back on time I'm going to have to get someone to mail it to me.
On a side note its odd how the device's are dying...I've come across a couple of cases while googling and I was extra careful with mines....bit woried about my replacement. As much as I hate to say it I'm considering selling on ebay and getting something else (not Galaxy tho...cannot live without sdcard slots).

i have the same problem, what tablet to take instead of transformer.... if 10.1 had a sd card slot it would be my choice.... maybe i should wait for toshiba....

connect via usb cable to pc ( ON) let it sit for 6-8 hrs and try again. If your charger is not working, you may have killed battery. If TF turns on, turn it off so all of the limited current is used to charge battery.

Thats a good point...I would suggest you try that Klokom as some people have found their charger pins to become loose or their chargers just melt and die.

The toshiba does sound interesting, and theres also the Lenovo K1 and Sony S1 too. Will have to wait for the reviews to come out to decide tho.

although i doubt that it is a case, because when i left work yesterday it had around 40% battery and when i came home it was off... but i'll try that...

Hold power for longer than 15 seconds, every person in the world sucks at counting in their head so hold it for 30 seconds, then try and turn it on, if that simply doesn't work and usb doesn't give you anything try charging your tablet overnight. If still nothing return or RMA it.

[Q] Nexus 7 Overheating when plugged and not turnining on

Hello, I have a 16gb, bought from google Nexus 7, and three days ago I was using it, 55% of battery, connected to car charger when I put it to sleep and let it charge, after a couple of minutes I picked it up and it wouldn't turn on. I noticed that the screen was on, but black, and nothing that I did would make it back on or off.
After an hour or so it was off, to never turn on again... Already tried holding power, power + down, power + up + down for 30 seconds, 1 minute...
Let it charge overnight, it only heat up very much, but no signs of life...
Any help?
I bought it in the USA and now I'm on Brazil and have no warranty...

I'm not electrical engineer, but it sounds like your charger did something to mess it up. If I was in your position I would probably disassemble mine and, while I don't know if this is possible, disconnect the battery, and plug in the USB to the charger that you got when your Nexus. Whether this will permit your device to boot, and allow you to determine whether the battery is fried is unknown to me, maybe someone else who has more hardware hacking knowledge could give some input here. Yes, it is possible to remove the battery, but I'm having trouble removing it... It seems that it's glued to the chassis... When I plug it to charge I can hear a very discrete humming noise... it's normal?

No other help?

Asus put a protector in the software, any time this happens hold the power button down for exactly 30 then it should boot up.

There is a bit of a difference between a standard AC charger and a DC charger. The biggest issue with car chargers is that you cant always regulate the voltage. Its not uncommon to have surges when things requiring electrical. I have heard (and seen) that Asus devices are particularly sensetive to this. I had an Asus Transformer Infinity that failed to boot ever again after "incorrectly" charging the device (that was Asus' words, not mine).

Stupid stupid mistake!

I think I have fried my Nexus 7.... didn't even think about what I did how stupid am I....
I decided to wire up a Hella connector to a USB cable the idea being to plug it into my phone for charging on the road... I then had a not so smart idea to use my OTG cable to connect the USB A connector to my Nexus 7 to see if it worked...
Nexus 7 booted past the bootloader and then nothing.... I realised then how stupid I had just been...and still nothing...
Presumably I've run a shed load of power down one of the data line..... what a fool.....

you could try something ASUS support told me, press all buttons (volume + & -, power) for 30 seconds, and if it won't boot after that, you should get a RMA

Going the RMA route would be costly. If it is dead, he'd be better off just bring a new N7.

Thanks for the suggestion but no it hasn't worked...
I've had the N7 plugged into the charger for the last 30 minutes or so and when I went back to it the screen backlight was on slightly (you can see if you look at the screen from the side)... but the whole unit was really really hot... I've obviously disconnected it but now can't get the thing to turn off, if I hold down the power button the screen flicks off but then back on.

I would think that "broken display” units on eBay/CL probably have working mobos and batteries, as the owners are trying to dump them because of the broken screen. But, buying used is a crap shoot.
Nice that Google is selling N7s at cost (or even a loss) - but it does mean that any oem component replacements will be a significant fraction of the original price.

I was reading in Play Books when my N7 shut down due to low battery. I plugged it in and it wouldn't charge or boot and I noticed a faint light bleed and faint dots streaming from right to left on the display. I tried things like holding the power button for 30 seconds to reset, holding vol down and power to try to get to recovery, but it wouldn't take. Finally, with it plugged in, I held down the power button for just about 10 seconds and backlight and dots stopped. A few seconds later without pressing anything, it booted up. It would start to charge, but if the screen timed out, I was back to the earlier state and it wouldn't come on. So I got it started again and immediately went to developer options and checked Stay Awake while plugged in. Eventually the charge built up and I'm back to normal, at least my N7 is normal. I only mention this because the OP talked about the faint backlight and it may be worth trying.

A standard hella charger outputs 5V at 2A which is the same as your N7 original wall charger.
I doubt your problem came from the charger, it might be softbrick at an unfortunately moment.
I came across a similar problem when i was editing a custom kernel.
If you tried every method to shut down the device and failed do the following:
1. Open the case (it's quite easy to open with a plastic card)

2. Unplug the battery and hold the power button 30 seconds (with the battery detached)
3. Let it soak for 10 minutes
4. Reconnect the battery and close the lid.
5. Put your nexus 7 in the wall charger, and you should see the battery bar on the screen.
After that, let it charge a few minutes and boot the device.

Battery Hit 0%, Won't Turn Back On

So I was using the new Hangout app to video chat, ignored the 4% battery warning, and eventually the phone shut off due to low battery.
After that I attempted to charge it all night, using various USB cables, wall units, the charging orb, and without, and a PC, and nothing happened after leaving it all night.
Holding the power button does nothing, trying to load the bootloader nothing, and holding both volume buttons and power does nothing. Simply unable to boot it or turn it anyway on.
Plugged into the PC also shows nothing.
I called google and requested an RMA, but I'd like to see if there was a way to backup some pictures from it.
Is there any known solution for this? I feel like the battery died beyond the point of no return or something.

It is really drained then... You can fix it by Manually applying current to it so it can charge a little. That's the only fix I can think of. And if I remember correctly there is a thread here on XDA which demonstrates the procedure.

Charge it for 5 mins, unplug it, then plug it back in.

I heard an answer to this somewhere, if you browse the N4 forums for a while you might find it, bit I think it was charge it for a few hours via normal USB, then hold power for 30 seconds to a minute? You might need to charge it for a few hours again after and hold power for 30s again. Good luck

Same thing Happened to me.. it died overnight and I plugged it in in the morning and now I checked a few hours later and it didn't charge! Wont turn on, I've tried various button combos and different chargers and cables.. Help!!!

I'm alive! Phew. So After trying all the combos with it plugged in.. I eventually waited an hour or 2 hoping it would charge.. and then tried the same thing after unplugging it ( after giving up and running out of ideas). With the phone unplugged I did power+volumne down and within a few seconds I felt a buzz and got into the bootloader.. then I rebooted. Phone booted up but battery was at 0 so it shut off instantly. But now when i connected the charger back I got the battery icon - Yay, it started charging!
This worked for me so just putting it out there in case it can help someone else

Yea, I got it working the same way also, why is it so iffy? The phone shouldn't even need a battery to boot if it's plugged in.
It should be able to bypass the battery power check to USB, and charge the battery in the meantime.

Nexus 7 won't turn on

My wife's Nexus 7 suddenly won't turn on... It still had juice when she went to charge it, but the next day found it was totally dead.
I've tried different chargers, tried to get to the bootloader, opened it and unplugged the battery, hooked it up via USB to my computer, etc and nothing will get this thing to power on.
Any ideas?

I mean, how long did you leave it on AC power? I know when I drain mine since coming to KitKat, it takes as long as a half an hour to respond again.

Sorry, it spent more than a day on the charger. Still nothing, cannot get it to respond at all.

If you haven't already, try holding the power button for a while until *hopefully* the Google splash appears.
A good way to tell if the device is accepting a current is by using a charger that can verify this somehow, like with an embedded LED. One like this: http://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/rapid-wall-charger-with-6-ft-cable-for-micro-usb/
I used this for my HTC Rezound when it still worked to make sure it was taking a charge because it would report it was charging in the OS but the charger module itself reported otherwise (the red Verizon ring didn't illuminate unless the charger was positioned a certain way in the device thus this was the only way I could supply it a charge and not hope it wasn't dead in the morning). When my Nexus 7 is drained, it draws enough voltage to get the charger to illuminate so maybe try one of these to really make sure it's still responding.
For the meanwhile, if you do decide to buy one, what was the last thing you/your wife had done? Was there root access?

Interesting about the charger -- don't think I have one that does that. Maybe I'll see if my VZW store has one, not sure yet.
She had just used her tablet as normal, and plugged it in like she does every other day or so -- the next morning grabbed it and went to work only to find out that it was dead. IE: not turning on.
- No root access (totally stock)
- I've tried holding the power button for up to 2 mins. - nothing
- Even tried holding the down volume and power for up to 2 mins. together - nothing
- Removed the back and unplugged the battery (plug was really tight) and left it undone for 5 mins and reconnected - nothing
- When plugging in to a USB on the computer, the computer dings like I connected something but - nothing
Perhaps I'll take it apart again and see if I can get a voltage reading on the battery with my multimeter... didn't do that before, but would be good to know if it is charged and not turning on or what.

Remove the back cover, locate the plug to the battery, disconnect plug by sliding from right to left, then replug. Should be fine after that.

Thanks but I already did that. Nothing changed. If I don't get it going soon I'll be forced to buy something else as she is getting impatient.

I bought a refurbish one and it was working great for 2 days and yesterday when I tried to open it, it won't turn on anymore and I was able to browse on it 5 min before.
I tried everything but I cannot find any solution...
When I plug into a wall I cannot see the charging icon and when I plug it into my computer it will do the noise that a device is plug but nothing happen... I wonder if its the battery that is crap

I own 3 of these N7 tablets and this has been the number one issue. Sent one for repair when it was under warranty. The supplied Nexus wall charger burn out quick, and aftermarket cables last only 3 months. I've had better results using the Samsung wall charger and cable.

OP, it sounds like your wife's N7 is in APX mode. Connect it to your PC via a USB cable, and open Control Panel's devices and printers panel. If it sees an APX device, and you didn't make NVFlash blobs, your only recourse is a motherboard replacement.

I just got my new N7 32gb GSM 2012 in the mail today. Won't turn on at all. I'm not going to bother. Going to return it. Quite disappointed, as I didnt realized this issue (apparently with the battery) was so common. Was looking forward to flashing cyanogenmod. Poop. Might just get a samsung tab now, which I think is quite overpriced for its specs.

If you're seriously looking for something other than an N7 then I'd suggest you look at the LG G-Pad.
I bought one for my Dad at Christmas and was amazed by how good the screen is, and the tablet generally, for the price. The LG skin is minimal and can be changed obviously with another launcher, and the battery life is better than my N7.
