Hi guys
Now I have my new DHD for 3rd days
I like the sense from HTC
Put it missed a lot of features like No of columns and rows and resize the widgets
But if are using another launcher you will loss a lot of good widgets from HTC sense
So what do you like
HTC sense or another launcher and why ?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
personally stock is the best
but sense is the best one from a manufacturer, however it would be nice to use sense widgets with stock launcher cause htc does have good widgets for email and a few others.
I'm using Launcher Pro in combination with Spare Parts. This way I get the nice widgets AND the eye candy animations I miss from stock android. Never really been a fan of Sense, however I did give it a chance to see if there were any improvements from my previous experiences. It must be said, it feels much more responsive with LP, especially after tweaking. I recommend it to anyone looking for a speed boost and also suggest purchasing the Plus version to support such great development.
Regards.
LauncherPro all the way. Looking forward to the rewrite too.
Put it this way, once the DHD had turned on, I immediately went to the market, downloaded LP and punched in my activation code. Everything else got done after that.
I like HTC Sense, but on my SGS I had Zeam which is very good plus beautiful widgets and that was a very nice combination. I've considered going the same way with the Desire HD but I'll stick with the stock launcher for now.

Any recommendations on how to tweak it? Are you referring to performance tweak or design tweak? (Using Launcher Pro Plus)

I went over all of the settings in Launcher pro plus and tried out a little of everything untill I was pleased with it.
Now finally everything is going smooth, unlike the sense interface, which kinda made me feel like a dumbnut for selling my 3GS for the Desire HD. Now I can't be happier with it (ok, yes I can, if it would have a loudspeaker that you could actually hear, because now, when it's in my pocket, I never hear it unless it's absolutely quiet)
Check out my Launcher Pro Plus here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxp7ljpNukk
the movie starts with a question about Android market that just got solved, so never mind that, you can skip right to the part of Launcher Pro Plus
If only there was Cookie Home for HTC Sense in Android....
How difficult, comparing with the HTC from WM, can be coding it for android?

Hi Matthias, I will have my DHD on Tuesday and it will be my first android phone... Just an information: if I install Launcher Pro Plus or any other launcher, could I come back to Sense without problems anytime?
Thx

Welcome aboard the Android-train Good choice.
Since you're new to this I'll give you a quick guide on how to restore default programs (this applies to any program).
Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Click the program and choose "Clear defaults". Easy, peasy lemon squeezy

There are numerous settings related to scrolling speed, cached pages, appdrawer settings etc. There is no definitive mix of settings it's purely down to the end user's preference. I suggest you download the free version and have a play/tweak and see what suits you best. A few adjustments are for performance and others are purely cosmetic.
The main benefits of LP are the ability to customise the dockbar to hold the shortcuts you actually want. You can manage your desktop much easier when everything is organised the way you like it. One thing I do enjoy is the ability to use the stock android transition animations HOWEVER, after hearing it can increase the rate at which the battery is drained, i'm considering turning them off anyway!
Regards.

Thx for your tip! Very kind!
ADW Launcher, mainly becaused I have set the density to 171 - a density that Sense doesn't like at all.
If I could only use the HTC Sense Widgets!
(Anyone knows of a launcher which also runs the Sense widgets?)

Launcher Pro Plus has very nice widgets, widgets which are almost identical to the ones on Sense. I was firmly in ADW camp at one point but as time has gone on I came round to the idea that LP has the better options overall. Not to say that ADW isn't a capable launcher, it's highly customisable and has unique options such as the swipe up dockbar but those nice widgets...... LP all the way!

I doubt the animations impact battery life by much, but i could be wrong. But i would still keep them on because without them, opening and closing apps is just plain ugly!
I have downloaded Launcher Pro and Zeam today, but when I went to download Home Switcher it tells me it's not compatible with Froyo 2.2.
Does anyone know a similar app to Home Switcher that works for Froyo?

Looked on the market and AppBrain, can't find it
Been watching this video on youtube about performance and task killer. Just thought I'd share it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeJJ7hdFhm8
Also just fyi, I think the stock launcher on my 70 blows. I installed launcher pro both before doing the froyo update and after updating and in both cases the device became much much smoother to operate. I don't know what it is but that stock launcher is just laggy as hell, bumping and jumping all around and jittery. Once I installed launcher pro it transitions smooth, the app drawer is way smoother, everything seems more responsive. I also highly suggest using a static wallpaper, LWP just bogs it down. BTW after updating to froyo launcher pro no longer appeared on the market, I had to go the launcher pro's website and download the apk
You did the market clear?
Because i have the launcherPro in my market
Yeah I've been using LP on my Hero for many months now and it's like a transformed phone with great widgets almost matching the HTC Sense widgets in style but much much faster that the HTC Hero launcher.

Sorry for this side note... but I can't take it anymore...!
Most videos of phones and tablets are giving me headaches and getting me dizzy: in and out of focus, bumpy camera work, etc.
Are these geniuses unable to figure out a way to put the camera on a tripod and the phone/tablet on a stand...????
Sorry again... don't mean to be mean...
By the way, my launcher is ADW.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Still, I think it's better then nothing
That video was 2:35am on November 13?
That was an early rom and certainly not 2.2.
I've installed Adw, its the best i think!
Very many custom designs downloadable
First of all, I should say, if this topic has already been discussed, then I apologise, and pelase just point me to the right direction. If not, let's get the discussion going!
I started this thread really for 2 reasons. One is to find out for myself (and hopefully for others) which launcher app is more suitable for my needs. And the second one is to have a discussion on the pro's and con's of the different launchers available.
For the GNote as a standard there is the TW launcher of course. I haven't seen any real shortcomings with it. I quite like it. it's clean, smooth and it works.
I am aware of three others: ADW, GO launcher, and launcher pro. I think ADW has a free and a pay version, and I assume the pay version has more features.
I haven't used any of the others on the GNote, and I never used the GO launcher. However, I did use ADW and LauncherPro both on my viewsonic Gtab. On that particular device I found launcher pro more suitable for my needs. Again, it was clean, simple and smooth.
I've never attempted using addons for either, and I am now becoming aware of the different ways to change icons, themes, etc. It'd be interesting to know what can be done with which launchers...
SS launcher
Why: cause it doesn't suck
Sorry, all I can write for now

If I'm not mistaken, only the stock TW Launcher has true hardware acceleration thanks to Samsung's work on it. Every other launcher should be software driven (i.e., CPU taxing).
Go Launcher Ex. I tried almost all popular ones and Go is just the best IMO. I can resize widgets, easily create folders and it's highly customizable.

ssLauncher
ssLauncher because:
It's truly different
It is completely configurable, down to the pixel
All widgets can be resized (although some get funny)
shortcuts can be of any style whatsoever (individually) making for a unique layout
It does not lag at all on my set-up (although transitions are a bit tricky to set up right)
You can have page names (the main thing I wanted)
It's truly different!
Nova Launcher!
Otherwise ADW, I like it's customizability. Never tried SS Launcher though.
If you use gb i think go launchr is optimal choice, but for ics nova is the fastest one

Wow you are damn right. This app makes so much sense. very unique indeed.
I personally use now Go Launcher Ex-highly customizable etc...but I recommend you to have a look at the "Post your homescreen" threads where you'll see different types of homescreens and launchers by the users.
Another site which is quite good for this is mycolorscreen.com/ where you'll see different homescreens and normally the Widgets in use with the market link. So you'll be able to learn how to customize your screen on your own

Am I the only one who dislike multi pages launchers? On the Gnote this artifice is not necessary anymore, I just have ADW with only one screen and with some tuning I have enough room for my often used apps, two folders and a off off my kid. I even disabled auto rotate. On such a big screen landscape makes no sense for home screen and most apps but pictures and video.

One word: Widgets!
I used to use ADW but it ha gotten too buggy, and it looks like it's not being developed anymore .
These days it's go launcher, but really it's just a place holder until I can load ICS, and the stock launcher

Am I the only one who thinks the none of the launchers are doing it right?
For all I know, TW launcher is the only launcher that uses hardware acceleration. It NEVER lags. Compared to other launchers, I'd stick with it. (I'm on RR v22, ICS for RR v1.6)
TW launcher on ICS for RR looks so much better than stock TW. It makes it bearable. Plus it doesn't lag.
VTL launcher 1.7.0 with left and right docks active, absolutly the more versatile one!

Great site, thanks! Just opened it and found a great homescreen containing several widgets I've been literaly looking for and didn't know they exist. Can't post links yet unfortunately, but you can go have a look and see if it also catches your attention Its on a Note too!

Not that I dislike them, but I'm sure gonna go for as few as I can. Thinking about 2 or so, depends on how many widgets I'm actually gonna need. I don't like to keep scrolling to find what I want.
I installed several launchers and launcher modifiers. Most modifiers sucked. I think they put adware on my phone because once a day or so I get an advert pop up that is not from my provider (I recognise some new type of icons in the notification bar). I uninstalled the launcher modifiers very quickly so I forgot their names. I tried ADW, and so far decided to stick with launcher pro, as it gave me what I needed (customised icons for apps and dock). Anything else wasn't really of interest for me from a functional perspective.
Im using launcher pro on the chinese leak ICS and its so smooth its insane. It looks to be rendering in 60p while using a live wallpaper with absolutely no lag at all. I like the animations and options in it but it is getting a little dated and could do with an upgrade to add some more widgets and functionality.
This was fairly smooth on GB roms pretty much the same as TW launcher but on the ICS leak this flies
You can shrink and zoom all widgets in the paid version from 1x1 to full screen and this works well with nearly every widget I have tried. This is very useful when reducing DPI even though atm I am using the stock 320 incase it breaks something reducing this.
The TW launcher is so low for me when scrolling left and right even though its smooth it just moves across pretty slow, I like to get to where I want quick and launcher pro does this. I havent tried many other launchers lately but tried them all before and keep going back to launcher pro even though it hasnt been updated in a while.
@martcerv: So how is that ICS leak working out for you? Many seem to have problems of all sorts with it...
I have been using spb shell 3d in tablet mode with resizable widgets and for me its the best.
It displays 8 rows x 6 columns and is really suited to the Note. The labels maybe small for some, but not really needed.
For me its the best experience, its compatible with the ICS chainfire release and is very smooth and responsive.
I have adjusted dpi to 213 for better views in gmail etc, but this does not effect shell 3d. At 213 dpi you loose the top bar for some reason, but have put info onto homescreen, see pic

So I have bought this phone (D802 international). And I wanted to do a custom interface for myself with UCCW. I did fairly simple widgets - some lightweight (~50kb) images with hotspot applinks. But when the widgets quantity is somewhat over 20-30 in the launcher - it start lagging and stuttering. Especially right after waking the phone. I was using Nova Launcher Prime with UCCW widgets, then changing it to Zooper widgets, then changing the launcher to LG stock one. It all lags with so many widgets. Than I tried it with touchwiz on my Sams Note 10.1 tablet with a slower hardware - and it's smooth all the way with about 50+ widgets. Is that such bad optimizations in LG software? Gaming and benchmarks are all good, but homescreen lags are ridiculous.

Stick around for a week or 2, I believe we will see this happen very soon since there are about 6 devs working together to bring this to our device. We have alot of CM support from out devs and they are working tirelessly right now.
So theres already almost every launcher available right now on any device, TouchWiz (Why you would want that is beyond me), the Xperia Launcher which is actually really sweet, and the LG G2 launcher has been added recently with an array of features, is there anyone that can port the Sense5 launcher from the HTC One, i know the widgets and things like that are part of the actual framework implemented by HTC so that prob wont work but apart from that is there a way to port over the base launcher atleast? Every other launcher can be done so why not Sense?
P.S. Please dont say why dont i just use nova/apex with a Sense theme or anything like that, they dont look as good, look out of place with different screen sizes and they dont work in the same way, it annoys me when people always say that :S

It needs the htcframework which is notoriously hard to port to other devices.

It's nearly impossible , tho some guys from s4 managed to port the whole system lol , you might wanna take a look if they could share the info how they did it , tho don't expect even if it gets ported it'll ever work , most of the stuff are and will be broken , mainly hardware related stuff.
