Thanks - Xoom General

Hi, yes I'm one of the dreaded noobs
I wanted to post a thanks in the dev section, but I'm too much of a noob to do so. With the help of all the smart people on this forum, in a couple of days of reading, I've been able to unlock my Canadian Xoom, flash the stock U.S. images to get the OTA 3.1 update, and then root it and flash the 1.4.4 tiamat kernel, without creating an expensive paperweight.
Took more than one try, so I can say I'm pretty good at it now
So thanks to bigrushdog and publicanimal for all the files and how to guides, I'll be hittin the donate button shortly!!

Most devs on this forum are very helpful, I'm sure they'd appreciate you posting this (and posting it in the correct section to boot).

[Q] I am new to this site

I could really use some ones help me root my phone and get 2.2 froyo I would really appreciate if some one can help me please. Can help one reply and show me how
Do you want root + custom rom, or just stock froyo.
I will tell you that stock froyo leaves a LOT to be desired and the custom ROMs are incredibly better.
Help me out whats best for me to do so I wont be able to crash my phone lol thank you for replying
Honestly, you are better off rooting on your stock 2.1, read the noob guide.... will add more shortly.
After you read that, you will note all you need to do is move update.zip and flash it (in the guide).
Boom, you have root... now download Rom Manager, flash CWR, and create a backup (also in the guide).
Now that you have a backup of your system, backup your apps (Titanium Backup app), in the guide.
Now, download a custom ROM and flash it with CWR..... I recommend Trigger V2.5. You can go to the dev section and find it, or click the link in my signature to watch a video if you like. If on your phone best to watch the video embedded in his thread so the annotations show up.
there is no quick way of doing this
u need to do some reading
in s15274n click on the "My noob guide" read it, then read the "My Vibrant Guide",
then if u have questions about really specific things, people will help you out.
read lots before u start flashing roms, because it is risky.
hope this helps, i am new to the android world too and been reading lots lately, my phone should be here soon though
Ok I will root right now and reply when I am done but where is the noob guid?
my signature, or the sticky in the Q&A section.
Ok checking. I have been reading lots also bc I don't wanna mess up my from that's why I am asking for help you know lol
s15274n noob guide has all you need, rooting is pretty simple and there are A LOT of videos showing step by step for rooting, flashing a rom, updating a theme etc.... so welcome, after a couple of weeks you will be so happy with the phone it will blow your mind
Thank you I'll be back guys i need to help my brother with some stuff. Right now the first I'm doing is rooting so i have the undate.zip in the internal right gonnd turn off my phone and do it
I read those guides posted by s15274n and others countless times before i rooted, then I read them again. Read them until there is no question in your mind as to what your doing. Read the rom flashing guides as well, as you'll more than likley want to put a custom on on after you've gained root. Thanks to s15274n and the other members who have taken the time to make easy to follow guides and tutorials.
Ok I root it now download a Rom right. But what is Trigger V2.5.
I'm looking for the Trigger V2.5 but i dont find it I see Trigger V2.0.1
look in the development section of the vibrant forums..anyway..trigger 2.6 got released today..here is the link for the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=921453
(click where it says "download trigger 2.6")

before you flash you must know

hello everybody ..
i been following XDA-Developers for many many times . actually i learn everything for root and flash etc from XDA .. i'm using Overcome Kernel and rom .
My Advice To You before you even go for flash a kernel you must do 1 simple step to avoid bricking your tab cuz trust me i already bricked it many times
but after reading and learning i knew how to do all the steps for flashing a kernel or a rom and after all , trust me it is easy you only have to follow the developer steps
anyways
before you flash a new kernel you must go here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071 )
you have to download the bootloader before flashing anything , read the topic and am sure you'll find your way to flash by this topic. any questions don't feel shy to ask i can guide you by my Experience
hope the topic was helpful for the new users
Yeah, just download bootloader checker to check if you bootloader is signed / locked before you update to another custom rom. Anyway, if it is locked, it does not permanent brick your tab. Just restore using odin pit file if anything happen while updating. However the danger to patch your bootloader MAY permanently bricked your tab. Brick means your tab no longer be able to patch but a need to change the motherboard is the only way to restore your tab.

tnx for your kindness reply
Whilst I appreciate your enthusiasm, there really is no need to post a thread that simply links to a sticky thread. It's stickied for a reason.
If you want to boost your post count with stuff that's not valuable then please do it in the "off topic" section, and watch out for the trolls

From 1.57 to 1.83

Hi,
I've got a sim-unlocked AT&T and have updated till 1.57. The phone is rooted and running gingerblur 2.5. I want to upgrade to 1.83 and gingerblur 3.5 but dont know the exact steps.
Do I need to go back to stock, or can I just run the ota and then install gb 3.5?
Thanks, v.

Really??? Another thread requesting the same information that is spattered all over the forums already! Really??? You managed to get rooted on 4.1.57 with GingerBlur.
How about you read the GingerBlur thread for instructions. Other alternative?....Stay on 4.1.57 with GingerBlur 2.5.
People say there is a lot of hate in the Atrix forums................it's not hate. People just get tired of seeing threads like this!
Really??? Another thread criticizing the question, rather than giving an answer, if they are oh-so-smart and oh-so-knowledgeable?
1. Really??? For help, you are pointing me to a thread which has 5809 posts? You might as well point me to a public library and tell me to find whatever I need there.
2. Even if I was to find where this was explained, the thread has a undecipherable mix between noobs (like me) trying and sometimes failing in their attempts, and people (not like you) who are actually giving out tested and verified information. I am very wary to try out those suggestions
3. I am in India - with it not being released here, I had to get it from the US, which means I have no sort of warranty, or other help if I completely mess it up. So I am a bit cautious. If you've got a problem with that, don't reply to the thread. If you're tired of seeing the thread, skip it. No one asks you to read every thread. You're obviously on 1.83. Actually I'm sure, you're on a special 2.83, because you're so damn awesome. How does a thread titled 'From 1.57 to 1.83' have any significance to you, unless you're trying to help.
Damn, I bet if you don't know it already, you can't find the actual answer within 15 mins of searching.
REALLY?
lol.
download the 1.8.3 sbf and flash it.
reroot with gingerbreak.
flash gingerblur.
???
Profit.
Warning: flashing sbf deletes all internal memory, but saves apps and settings. REMEMBER TO BACK UP.

I started out not knowing anything a few weeks back, and through actually reading all the guides, and a lot of trial and error, I have learned from the many people here who already had Android and Atrix experience, and I continue to learn in the same way.
All those threads are in the first 2-3 pages of the dev and themes forums, and all your instructions are 99% of the time in the OP.
The authoritative answers you are/were looking for are located in the same threads as those which I learned from, and which you must have read to get to a rooted 4.1.57 on GingerBlur 2.5.
CaelanT, at the time I went to 1.57 and GB 2.5, I had a fresh phone, so could apply the general procedure - didn't have to do anything different.
This time round it's different, and I can't afford to mess things up by needless trial and error - that's why the question. Anyways, let's end this here. Lesson learned from my end - could probably do a bit more research. But do understand that there are different reasons people ask questions - not just due to laziness.

[Q] I need help starting off

im new to rooting, I just want to be safe, I'll write my a501s stuff, and i kinda want a pish in the right direction of how to root, and over lock it
Device - Acer a501 (has 3g)
Ver - 3.2.1
Kernel - 2.6.36.3+
Build - Acer_a501_4.066.31_COM_GEN1
I've rooted phones before but I'm still pretty new to this, help is so appreciated
if it helps with updates etc, I live in australia
there is a thread not 4_5 below this one
How to root 3.2
You need to fallow the instructions there then flash a rom from dev forum for the 501.
Thread is by Timmy dean. Next time search there is no curb service here at XDA.
My one free search for you has now been granted
Good luck

Damn girl, you are ruthless.
Dude, she's messing with you. She runs a stock rom
Check TimmyDeans thread. It should do all things, as he added superuser. Maybe CWM Recovery.
Any questions, just ask
be nice to me. Was just trying to help.Sure my tab is TOTALLY NOT!!!!!!!!!!! STOCK

How do I proceed from here?

A while back when ICS was first leaked, I flashed it.
My A500 is not rooted or unlocked or anything. It was completely stock HC.
Whatever it was that I flashed, I was able to flash using the built-in recovery tool.
Under Settings, it says this:
Image version: Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_PA_CUS1
Build number: Acer_AV01_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1
Now all the threads I'm reading about flashing newer roms says I have to be on GEN1 first. Searching for PA_CUS1 doesn't give me any results.
What do I do, where do I go, what can I flash from where I am now?
And pointers would be greatly appreciated.
this is not a forum for questions. should have posted this in Q&A forums buddy

Thought about that, but this question is specifically about what this forum is designed for. No? Regardless, a mod can move this thread if they feel necessary. But thanks for taking the time to post. I think.
