Battery loss - XPERIA X8 General

So, by some or other reason (btw im using floyo 0.25) the screen remained active when i went sleeping.
Then, after 8 hours when i get up, i see the battery life showing frickin' 3% !
Important notifications: before i went sleeping battery life was something in the 64% , the phone was set to flight-mode the whole night and the screen brightness set on its lowest level.
I just wanted to ask: is this normal, such a battery drain, only in 8 hours and in flight-mode, without doing anything at all ?
Sent from my Xperia X8

Isn't there some app running in background? Look to settings => about phone => battery use what drains battery. I have Floyo 0.25 too, but battery last for 2 days. Why was screen on?

You mean the screen was ON the whole night? You didn't turned it OFF?
If you didn't the answer is - yes this battery drain is normal, because x8's screen isn't the power-saving one. It drains the battery very hard even if the brightness is set to the lowest. I have the same problem with my x8 but when using it daily - 10 minutes of playing the game at the highest brightness results of the 2-5% of the battery drain.

Now it says 85% using for screen and 15% for android system

What is your display power drain?

Maybe my battery is not trained yet, but so far, on my 2-days old n1, battey lasts for 4 hours (mid. backlight, no wifi, very little use).
Still running stock rom and not planning on rooting.
What I noticed is that in my battery drain stats show Display contributing to 80% of total drain. That's with display being on mid setting... is that normal? What is yours (esepecially for people with stock roms)?
Are you playing with the phone a lot? Like is your display always on? 4hrs still seems extream to me, I am rooted and runninng a custom rom, but even when I wasnt I never managed to get through the battery that quickly, and I use the phone a lot
Here's what I do to get good battery... I only keep backlight on like the a ****as hair..lol barely unless outside...... widgets are cool n all, but if there constantly updating thats polling your battery, live wallpapers are cool, but a battery drainer, I also keep gps, locations and bluetooth off unless using them, wifi also.. also the background applications setting uses battery but if ya want updating widgets no way around that...
Also look in seetings about phone, battery use and see what's eating your battery, I use my phone hours at a time so my display is most my battery drain which is normal, everything else is like 7 percent or less, mostly 2 or 3 percent. ....
I think thats all I do, but you may keep stuff on like widgets and that unfortunately eats battery..
I am running everything in my Sig. I have had my N1 for about 2 months now right around that. After a 14 to 16hr day with some heavy to mild usage I am still over 50%, but then again I have 3g turned off and i am only on Edge all the time since i am always around WiFi. So i would tell you 4 hours is a bit extreme but hang in there it does get better. I remember being around 25% for the 1st few weeks until it got better. Other wise do what Temperbad said that is the best way to go. Only widget i am running that updates every hour is my Weather one. Turn the screen all the way down unless it other wise needs to be up. I am sure that is what is killing your battery. Mine is always on the lowest setting until i am outside.
Sadly I'm rooted, but I will state my percentage too.
Weirdly, my display usage is only 15% on Paul's Desire ROM. Honestly I dont see how this may be - but that is what it says. My brightness is quite high too..
Yeah, I'm well aware about widgets and battery drain regarding 3G and all that, I've had PDAs for quite a while.
For comparison, my old and ****ty TP2 would drain about 30-40% of its battery with same usage that would drain my N1 dry.
I do remember that LiIons get better in a week or so of usage, but I wanted to hear what you guys are getting. Would love to hear from someone who's just bought an N1 like me.
It's under full warranty, so I'm not worried too much. Just an inconvenience.

I have my display set to "Auto Brightness," have a display timeout of 1 minute, have my email get synced every hour, and also use a live wallpaper.
My display accounts for 63% of battery usage.
Auto brightness will use more battery than keeping it low. Cause its constantly checking light density through the sensor to give it the correct lighting...

I agree, but disabling that, disabling GPS, WiFi, turning off 3G, killing all widgets.. ok yeah my phone will last me 2 hours longer, but it's also boring as hell.
Might as well go pick up a simple nokia for $10 - battery will last for weeks, but what's the point..
Not saying your advise is bad, it's a good idea.. just that all these advices to turn everything off - what's the point of even having a PDA then..

I've read otherwise, though I don't think that Auto Brightness is the optimal battery saving setting.
Obviously it's a middle ground between max and low.
Here's a report of my usage today:
~Wifi and 3G both turned on the whole time
~30 mins of MP3s with head phones
~20 mins of 3G tethering over Bluetooth
~40 mins of apps usage (mostly the Browser and the Gallery)
~8 mins of talk time
one 1 min update through the bootloader
have gmail sync turned on, also twidroid syncs every 15 mins
The Battery use app shows:
54% Display (active 6% of the time)
16% Cell standby
14% Phone idle
4% Wifi (active 51.6% of the time)
4% Android System
Right now 14h26' since unplugged, still having 43% of the battery left. The battery meter says 12 more hours until 0%.
All things considered, the battery life is quite good on my N1.
Edit: forgot to mention, the display is set to the middle setting with the Power widget, no auto brightness

Wow... that's some serious battery life.
Ok, some questions..
1. screen brightness setting?
2. how long have u had that phone (battery) for? Did it improve over time?
3. Is it rooted/flashed or stock rom?
4. you got any syncing widgets running (RSS/twidroid)? Live wallpaper?
Thanks a bunch for your input!

Just one comment. I keep Wi-fi and GPS on all day because Wi-fi sleeps when the screen is off and only polls when the screen is on if you're not using it. GPS is only used when your location is required in an application. i dont know why people are always like "you have to turn these off to get good battery life" (Notice wi-fi is 2%)
also i've been running 8 hours with moderate to heavy use (internet, music, phone calls etc) and I'm @ 40%. The drain from 70% - 40% seems to go so slow compared to 100% - 70%.

Your right... about the updating widgets and wallpaper, they do make the phone funner.. but why need gps on when not using, or bluetooth, or wifi? Just simply turn them on when using...
So much going on with this phone I can say its good pretty decent battery....
Anyone know how to make my gmail sync every hour instead of instantly?
When I got my Nexus my battery was just as poor, but after using it for a couple of weeks I'm getting about 10 hours usage with medium brightness, WiFi, and gps.
So just give it some time and it should fix it itself.

wow
a lot people have battery drain
Yesterday, I've observed huge battery drain during the day .. about -15%/hour while doing some basic tasks on the phone (email, IM, inet browsing). Later, I've found out, that auto brightness was set way too high and had to manually decrease the brightness levels. After that, power consumption dropped to about -5-7%/hour while doing the same tasks as before. The display value in battery use menu also dropped from 70% to 30%.
The idle battery drain is OK... about -1%/hour with only GSM network on.
IMHO if your x8 battery is draining too fast, check doixanh's FAQ and then check the brightness levels...
Hi,
I'm afraid that the battery consumption is not related to GingerDX itself but to the additional software and phone usage.
In order to improve battery life in GingerDX do the following:
1. REMOVE or freeze Google Maps (ownhere). Use a different software instead (like maverick pro 1.94, which has google maps enabled and it is not consumig your resources)
2. Also, you may want to remove dsp manager (use the built in equalizer in your favorite music player instead).
3. Disable data MANUALLY. Use the built-in power widget to disable mobile data when you're not using it. Don't use automated 3g disable software because it will drain your battery too.
Your battery should last for 2+ days with normal phone usage. No need to mess with the good working autobrightness, you can leave it on.
FroyoBread:
1d 7h 29m since unplugged - 71% battery left
That's pretty good, isn't it? (Sorry for "offtopic")
hello everyone, i just think that battery callibration and some apps freezed is enought for the battery drain... some apps like gmail, maps, maybe market..
for me the battery drain is normal
i´m using gingerdx V011
Wow Still battery drain use this Doixanh Suggestion
Clear battery stats in xRecovery
Freeze unused services (like Email, DSP Manager, Maps). This is important.
Don't set brightness too high
Don't install too many unused apps.
Turn off WiFi, 2G, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth when unused
Turn OFF LED Succession. It's turned of by default, but maybe there are some people still leaving it on.
Reboot after you listen to music. Music service caused battery drain (in the past) for me, even when I stopped listening to music.
Hi. Im using GDX v012 and I don't know if I'm having a battery drain..... in last night battery drop about 17-20% in standby... with all the things off (wifi, data, gps).
So, i went to check the graphs and i noticed that the cell was active during all night....
somebody can tell me why?
and second, maybe the battery drop a little faster because of my signal strength.. but not so fast....
GDX v012, DSPManager manually pushed back into the system and Google Maps + Streetview from the Market (can't live without it); apart from the apps I already had installed.
Depending on the usage of my phone (calls, WiFi, GPS) I get 1-3 days on a charge.
Mind you, I don't use the phone for listening to music or watching video [EDIT] or gaming; that's where my Liberty Tab G100 (mod-flashed into a Iconia A500) performs a whole lot better thanks to the Tegra 250 chipset and faster CPU [/EDIT].
I did a test and found that it consumes my battery is the signal strength that is weak in my location....
when i put my phone in airplane mode during all night, battery has not decreased even 1% ...
i have many apps installed, including maps etc etc
GingerDX v012
Yea, I kinda just upgraded to GingerDX v012, from v010. Somehow I missed v011.
Anyway, I realised that v012 drains my battery a lot more than v010. I wonder why.
Just today, in 3 hours of idle mode, my battery drained from 80% to 60%. That's alot o.o
Any tips on how to reduce this battery drain problem?

loving the ROM, but my poor battery!
This is my first post on this site. doixanh, you are a legend for making this rom available to X8 users. Its smooth and pretty. stock eclair can go in the rubbish with no reservations. When I first discovered just how limited it was I regretted buying my phone. Then I discovered froyobread (which I used for 1 day) before updating to gingerDX v13. Stoked!!!!!!! My battery drains pretty badly though. I have quite a few apps installed and use live wallpaper so I guess I can put up with it. I need my koi carp dammit! lol
My battery was draining 20% to 30% an hour on idle mode with bluetooth, 3g and wifi off. Turned on Airplane mode and now it drains around 2%-4%.
Any ideas on how can i improve the battery life without having to turn on airplane mode?
displays drain my battery 90% omg
when i check what uses battery it indicates 90% on display
my phone only last for about 8 hrs doing nothing just in idle mode
i follow all the instruction but it failed (

I tested it and got no significant results.
The change in values doesn't seem to improve battery life...
Using GingerDX 013, so far no battery drain. Yet i have noticed, that it's the cell standby that uses the most power. Although it drains 1% in 2-4 hours depending on quality of signal in my region. Usually everything's off and i have the supercharger v8 script installed. Also applied the smartass tweaks to save battery time as well. And i kill all unnecessary processes after using apps.
small update: Current uptime is 3d 22h as of this point and i still have 21% battery left. And i've drained over 15% when i was meddling with the supercharger settings. Otherwise regular use - phone calls, messages, some tinkering and wifi usage.
status update: standby was 4d 14hrs to 6% including the 15% drained when trying to set up supercharger. So it is possible it can do 5 days with small use and 6+ without any use at all.

download CPU spy to check and make sure it's still going into Deep Sleep when the screen is off.
Also if your rooted use No Frills CPU (or any other CPU tuner type app) and change the governor from interactive to hotplug, hotplug disables one of the CPU cores when not needed thereby saving battery.
Even for me as well and so many issues so many things missing in the update like
1.Screen capture app is missing.
2.Lock screen is stock in portrait not turning to landscape unable to solve it.
3.Battery is draining so fastly as compared to before.
4.All the apps not responding instantly it is taking time to respond and even i need to reopen it as it is not opening for long time
5.Main thing is Notification bar is too small compared to before and unable to see signal info properly
6.And the home screen seems more crispy i didn't like it at all
and finally before it looks like a tablet now it look like a phone in considering with the notification bar and typical buttons like home screen......

Trick to save battery

Hey all, I had been really dissatisfied with the battery of XSP, leaving it overnight from 90% it used to drain to 50% with all apps being turned off so there's finally a way which you can use so the battery doesn't drains out quick I tried it myself last night and from 87% battery when I saw in morning battery was 83%, awesome isn't it
Ok so here's what you have to do just add the line below in system/build.prop add it in bottom of build.prop enjoy
"ro.config.hw_power_saving=1"
hmm, gonna test it tonight
Good one
But for me no battery draining issue while stamina mod on. Yesterday night i leave my phone with 34 % battery with stamina mod on while sleeping . In morning its 32 % ..
before i sleep, my phone's battery status is usually 20-25% and i charge the next morning before going to work. when i woke up, my phone doesn't drain a single percent at all, but sometimes the phone's battery status is reduced by 1%. just sharing.
build.prop
According to some one website, it should:
# allow to tear down mobile data connection when device is idle
I think you can achieve the same by stamina mode.. The question is, what is causing so much drain. Try to install BetterBatteryStats or similar app to find out the real reason.

The phone ignores lines starting with # so no it shouldn't be. But the stamina mode probably does the same thing indeed
Sent from my C5303 using xda app-developers app
Yes i know about the # lines, I just posted what does this settings actually influence. It shut downs mobile data while screen is off, which is achieved by stamina mode as well.
BTW, what else does stamina mode do? You can choose which apps will be active in the standby mode... in case i have email synchronization set to 30mins, an don't touch the phone for 2 hours, then it won't be synced? If I add it to stamina mode apps, it will be sync then?
battery while screen is off is perfect on my sp.. i dont know whats the matter with yours.. but the problem im facing is during a movie.. of approx 2 hours.. the battey level is 90% .. after two hours it drains to 20%.. with 50% brightness ... its kinda odd.. if you guys are feeling the same.. or not.. at least give me some advice on this!! i dont think this is normal for sp whose video play back is almost 7-8 hours!

m not facing such an issue.....the other day i watched 2 hollywood movies both approx 1hr 45 mins+ with full brightness on MX player and from 90% the bettery went down to approx 30% so that was like 60% drain on full brightness for 3hrs+ movie
I know there isn't much problem of battery with stamina mode on, but even while stamina mode is off or watching videos, playing games it still saves a lot of battery from being drained!

i9505 Poor 'screen on' battery life

I've got brilliant screen off battery life on my SGS4, but soon as I start using the phone the battery just plummets.
I took my phone off charge, went to the bus stop, started at 100% and finished on 89%. Total off charge time 19m, screen on 12m. That's 1% every 2 minutes!
I'm sure it's not a background task, my phone goes into deep sleep most of the time. Checked CPU usage and nothing is up, got brightness to lowest and all extra features off and power saving on. I had 70% left yesterday after being nearly asleep for 13hr.
Using Golden Eye 8.0 ROM. XXUDMI1 bases with Adam kernel 1.6 and baseband XXUDMG5. I've used other ROMs to no change.
Went down by 7% just writing this!
Down to 60% battery after 1hr20min off charge which 1hr screen on
