i would not bother running task killers. i have not got anything like that running in my rooted 26 and i can get 2 days from a charge with general usage. Task killers run and actually chew up more power than they free up and on another note, android itself is very clever at handling resources. you do not need to have 80% of your ram free (read: wasted) in order for your phone to be running well. android will kill off tasks as required.
my advise, ditch your task killers and enjoy longer battery life
I agree, automatic task killers are a complete waste of time.
Ditch the task killers. Seriously.
Also make sure your screen brightness isn't too high. Just wastes battery for nothing.
should i uninstall setcpu also? or keep it ? i uninstall process manager but havnt uninstalled systempanel
battery
on my x10 firmware v...26 rooted, battery lasts over 3 days. HOWEVER for 30hours was in plane mode and i use SetCPU in powersave mode...It's third week since i bought the phone. And screen brightness is on automatic. In that 3 days 1 reboot, few calls, mp3s, video clips, vwifi web browsing for a few minutes. If I want to play for instance NFS shift It will last for only a few hours...
@kremx can u tell me your setcpu profile settings? r u using any task killers?
I use setcpu and juice defender, both on automatic settings and set to start on bootup. Batt lasts 2 days with normal usage

I see that said a lot on here, has the theory been tested at all, is there any data to support that?
In response to the O.P, I use Advanced Task Killer and SetCPU.
i use setcpu and juice defender, works well for me, i get bout 20 hours of heavy usage out of my phone which is a lot better then when i first got it (got like 6 hrs of battery life), i am also running 020
edit: am also using helix launcher
mate as bin said by others, cant stress enuf, get rid of any task killers and battery aids as i hav found they do more harm, since the update the only thing i use is SEEPU to monitor the processor and memory, and my battery life has improved on mass amount, typical day, unplug at midnite, 3%/4% used overnight, bluetooth on at 8 till 4.30 with gps and sometimes wifi with few phone calls and tx plus bit of browsing market etc, by time i get home for 5.30 i still hav 65% left, so could easy do 2 day, if i turned it all off i reckon i could prob get 3 half day out of the battery maybe little more
@Shonan_ thanks an ill delete all taskkiller on phone to see how it goes. what is seepu app for i saw it on market how do i use it? does it have any benefit?
Imho task killers, setcpu etc. do more harm than help. Your display usage seems high what is your display timeout? Mines set at a minute and while my battery only lasts a day, the r1f fw my battery would only last 4-6 hours. Definite improvement. Hope this helps

i download helix launcher omg in 6 hours i only lost 5% with like 15 texts and 10 mins call and 45 mins browsing. wow every1 should install helix launcher donut.

FWIW - i run ADW launcher on mine, no task killers/CPU or Battery tools and short screen timeouts. I get great battery life.

72% of your battery goes to display! Man that should give a clue!
Turn down the brightness of your display, way down. 20% brightness perhaps, that's what I can live with under most weather circumstances.
Even with auto-brightness my display doesn't eat THAT much battery.
Do you live perhaps in a very sunny area, that you keep your display so bright??
Anyway, to improve your battery life, turn down the brightness!!
I found juice defender made a difference. Before I installed it Android System was using the most power, now it's screen which is as it should be!

I also dont get great battery life and the display is always using at least 70% of it when I check the usage but when I turn off auto brightness it ends up being brighter even when its manually turned all the way down so it seems auto would make more sense....
First let me tell you exactly what my phone says
9 Hours 42 Minutes since unplugged
Battery Level 84 %
Display 41 %
The major things that can help in saving the battery is killing the 3G and Manually set the brightness.
am using the 3G only when i need it , i wont keep it running all the time, the reason of that is most of our apps mails etc, will Auto sync , and that will eat your batter.
Plus : Stop GPS , Bluetooth when it is not needed
why display shows 70 % of consumption ?? (((( cause you have 4 inches LCD screen ))) , smaller the screen the less it will use .
Task Killer , is not for saving battery , it is for freeing your RAM , X10 has 384 MB RAM , Android is using more than 200 MB out of it , leaving you with less than 180 MB to run your apps , so if you run few apps your free RAM will start dropping and you will start feeling how heavy is it to start any app.
I agree to the post above.
Here are the check list to improve battery life:
If you use email, put the update duration to max, except for important mail account
Set brightness to automatic
Enabled GPS, Bluetooth and WiFI when required
Only enabled 3G when you are using the phone for internet access (Find a good 2G-3G switch apps, mine runs in notification), i also found talking on 2G line gives better quality specially if you live where 3G BTS is very scarce
Uninstall all task killer and battery management
Use less widget, widget updates also takes baterry
I usually able to run the phone without need to charge for 2 days for daily task such as check email, messaging, IM and few phone calls.
wlan - standby
... with juice plotter i have seen, that my wlan-standby (screen off) does not work correctly, if some apps (also no typical always on apps) are installed, but i cant remember which ones. So after installing new apps, i always check juice plotter after (in the standby mode) ...
... i know some apps are doing an intervall update, that is ok (you can see spikes in juice plotter) but a 100% time use is silly ...
... is there a app i can monitor, which app and when an app use wlan/gps/bt (time/open/close) ???
This is by far my favorite Rom yet but I'm having battery issues that I haven't had before. I unplugged my phone last night at 100% and when i woke up 5 hours later my battery was at 68% normally it would only drop about 10% or less in 5 hours. any ideas? I have all new radios and wimax and such.
Is your phone sleeping?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Once we get a new custom kernel, it should remedy the battery issues on that ROM.
We just have to wait for HTC to release the source for the latest kernel.
OK stupid question how do I know if my phone is sleeping ?
At 7am I reset battery stats and put in a 100% battery (charged on an external charger)
Now (11:15) I am at 69% I expect this to get better once the batt stats are done.
I have new radios and the kernel for the ROM.
stock battery. i dont think my phone is sleeping.
If you have mobile data on, your battery will drain a lot faster, especially while we're all stuck with the stock kernel
No battery problems here. Altho it is the stock Kernel, i can easily use my phone for a full day with several calls, a bit of gaming and youtube (3G) while in the pooper and have 50-60% remaining in the evening
Try to reduce app sync frequency (you don't need that when in bed really..), LED notifications
No juice defender, or taskiller, or extended battery- just using setCPU with "onDemand" governor
That's about where mine is, too. I'm used to my SBC setup though, where I'd be at 85% by the end of the day.
You should not be losing that much battery over night. I generally only lose 2-3%. Have you checked your battery usage? Post a screen shot of it.
It looks like this
http://smartphoneblogging.com/wp-co...ngerbread_battery_consumption_app_graphic.png
You can see when your phone is awake vs screen off. And if you click on the apps in the list, it will tell you how long that app kept the phone awake,
So when can we expect a custom kernel. i use set cpu with ondemand also no juice defender or app killers here either.

So something is waking up your device then. You don't have the wake lock issue. Do you use google latitude? That is a huge battery hog
yes i do use latitude all my sync like facebook and weather are set to 1 hour but have always been and never had this problem before.

Try it w/o latitude on. I only drop 1-2 maybe 3% through the night once i turned those off. I have my facebook contacts set to sync once a day (don't really need more than that unless you add friends a lot or they update their picture frequently)
Weather I have set to 3 hours, but there is an option to update on device wake..so that isn't an issue either.
Give it a try and see if it helps.
Also if you haven't calibrated your battery, charge your phone to 100%, boot to recovery and wipe battery stats, drain battery til phone shuts off and then charge phone back to 100%. I can usually get about 24 hours of moderate use out of my phone.
ok will try those. i did battery wipe just yesterday
just click the link in my signature for some really good battery tips
OK guys so nothing I done helped my battery life while sleeping so I wiped wiped and wiped again and reflashed twice set everything back up and now my phone sleeps again. These roms can be funny like that sometimes I guess. Any thoughts on that?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Roms, especially ones that are ports, can be weird like that sometimes. If a couple of wipes and a re-flash did the trick then I'd say that's great.
If not, then it's just bad luck I guess. Hopefully the kernel source will come out in the next few weeks and we'll be able to get kernels that can squeeze out better battery life.

Share with me your dark secret on how you've gotten 10hrs with Wi-Fi, Mine's doesn't even last that long.
from the first day i had to face this drain problem ,i traid many roms and apps like task killer juice defender etc but nun of them worked ,i think this is comman thing
First completely discharge until it switch off. Charge complete then switch off again connect the charger. It shows 100% then remove the battery and put it back and charge again until it shows 100%. Do this twice which will change your charging and discharging cycle.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
hmm...getting some strange behavior.
I did discharge completely once but was unable to charge in one go.
Once, a couple of days back, battery was @ 25% or so and I rebooted and it went to less than 10%.
Yesterday charged till 98%, switched off WiFi at night. After 12 hrs I have 68%, don't know if it is good or bad.
You have to charge your mobile completely.. And one more thing change the display brightness to manual and low settings instead of automatic brightness. When its shows 98% means it hasn't charged fully. You have to sure its charged completely...
Hope it helps

Okay...Discharged completely and charged to 100%, power off, again charge to 100% in switch off mode and the power on. Did this twice in last 3 days. Now after about 30 minutes, it is already at 94%. Something's wrong.

It was free for me without the "set on boot" option.
I used it for about week before, just setting it manually to see how it worked..
Then I paid for full version.
I don't know about the alternatives, as I have not tested them.
@ jesrani: Connect your Phone to your PC in mass storage mode, and delete the .thumbnails folder under DCIM (both, internal and external SD). Then go to Settings => Apps => Manage Apps and search for Gallery. Press Clear Data. This should help, if the gallery caused any problems.
My phone normally consumed about 0,8 to 1,0% an hour when in standby, and I got it down to about 0,6% an hour wit XXKB3 (no facebook, e-mail or contacts sync, no syncing widgets, only calendar sync every 30 minutes). So, whatever yours is doing - it's pretty extreme.

i have update my SM-N9005 from 4.3 to 4.4.2 through Odin. rooted. with CWM Recovery.
tried probably 3 custom ROM that support 4.4.2 and end up on the Official leaked.Build 4.4.2 ( rooted)
the battery performance is driving me crazy.
on 4.3 stand By mode i used to loose 0.8 per hour now with the same setting same features turned on. i loose 2.3 percent per hour.
on 4.3 screen time with the lowest Brightness i lost 1 percent every 10 minutes. now i loose 3% with same brightness level. 3 percent every 10 minutes.
Android OS and Android System are always on top of screen in the battery Graph. i
media is also on top of the screen in the battery graph.
have tried a lot of solutions and factory reset with no luck at all. ( i have placed the device with Airplane mode with no SUCCESS )
installed a lot of battery analyzer apps did not have a clue who's eating all the Juice.....
any idea how to fix this??

Partial Wakelocks are usually caused by apps running in the foreground. There's usually not much you can do about that. If you are actually using the phone, battery will run out. What you need to find out is what happens when you are not using the phone.
Do this:
1) Charge the phone to 100%. Disconnect the cable.
2) Let the phone sit idle for 1-2 hours with screen off.
3) Get Kernel Wakelocks from Better Battery Stats.
Then you'll know what's eating your battery when you are not actually using the phone.
In my case, I get ril-fd, l2-hsic and wlan_rx_wake wakelocks the most. I know the causes, but I can't do anything about them without rooting.

I've noticed the first 10 percent (from 100 to 90) go away fast as hell. Use your phone as you would today, just make sure you have enough juice by the end of the day. Leave it as it is overnight and then post your screenshots.. You don't seem to have any wakelocks so your battery shouldn't be draining.. Mine is going like 1% for 8 hours or something, the problem starts when I turn me screen on lol!

the only solution was to take out the battery for a few seconds
worked for me on

im assuming the drain is happening due to the bad reception where i am at.
how do you manage 1% per 8 hours that's Awesome (knock on wood) .. is this with WIFI and Data on?
i don't understand ... how come i have no wakelock after screen off.. and my battery draining 1.5 % per hour on stand by mode.... and android Os always on top ?
BBM.
And I haven't done anything special, actually you have to do something to NOT get great battery life while idle. After a factory reset, nothing disabled (so G+, G search and all those wake cycles still present) with WiFi off and Mobile Data ON I lost the usual 1 to 2% per 8 hour sleep. The problem starts for me when I turn on my screen, not when it's turned off

It's caused by broadcast packets sent by other devices in your network waking the phone up. The solution is to install a custom kernel that filters such packets.
i changed the phones battery i noticed that it is acting weird. i fully charged the phone and this morning i took the charger out and in 30 minutes without touching it it dropped to 95% and from 7 am until 4 am the battery is now at 26% without even touching it. what happens is when i look at it it says that is still 95 but then when i go to settings/battery then it changed to 26 out of nowhere. i tried putting the old battery but still no go.i tried installing a custom rom and kernel and i even tried 4.2.2 stock and 4.3 stock and even changing radio and i looked online for help but same thing happens. i dont know whether is a battery problem or a software or hardware problem. i really need the phone working and i was wondering if someone had the same problem and also if you used to charge the phone with a wireless charging station because i saw something about using it and then not getting enough power from stock charger. i bought it on ebay and the previous owner had a wireless charging if it helps and he told me a new battery would fix the blinking red light of death. any fixes for this? here is the video of the weird battery problem and it is on airplane mode and safe mode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlFqagJ2v-k here is another video of how slow the device detects the battery drain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Blz68xgQcDU
Install the following app:

You can find a free version that works just as great but I personally like this. Charge to 100% then just use it normally. After it drains, open up the app and see what wakelocks there are. You can Google them and it'll tell you what to disable or uninstall from there

Well the graph has started from when the phone was at 1.2Ghz... The battery life just doesn't get worse.. Its the same with 1.2 and 1.9.. Just some minor differences.. There is less heat and low performance on 1.2 and on 1.9 the phone heats up quite a bit but the performance also increases considerable.. But it doesn't seem to affect battery life..
Vikram: Firstly, its bad manners to hijack someone else's thread. You should start your own if you have a question.
It's hard to say if it affects a battery life, because your graph is over the span of two days. One single charge and discharge cycle is sufficient to demonstrate any issues. In any case, it may be unrelated to your overclocked processor, I would install the wake lock detector app and start from there.
