Initially this sounds like an unacceptable reply, but mo3ulla speaks the truth, I had the same problem and the battery needed replacing, now mine goes all the way down to the bottom before it dies.
There are several other exact same threads...why didn't you do the search?
Answer...buy a new one.

try this:
after it becomes dead... try to plug it in to make it "turn on" again.... then remove the plug when the device is already on.... now use the device until your battery drains out.... charge it and then the next time you use it.... it will shut down on a different percent... maybe 20%... maybe 10%....
i used to do this before i got my new battery.... my battery randomly shuts my universal when im in 23%, 20% and 11%... you may still have to buy a new battery soon...

Same happend to my device after one year of usage. Simply buy a new Battery ... this solves your problem.

I agree that this is most likely a serious design flaw in the Universal, but spending $15 to $20 is not the end of the world.
Time for a new battery, most definitely. Mine shuts down at about 55%-60% through continuous use, otherwise it will happily idle down to about 30 without any problem. I power cycled it a few times, but that's only a temporary solution. Given as how most original batteries are 18+ months old and the fact that they're recharged nearly everyday means they're going to show signs of degradation by this time. I'm considering getting the 3.2Ah one myself, seems like a good compromise between size and longevity.

I had batteries die after a month.
The universal should not crash when the battery is dead though. It should simply warn that the battery is empty.

Not when your battery is damaged. Normaly a batty looses some Volts over a constant time of using. After reload the Battery will have the full voltage again. A defect battery will drop down the Volts from one secound to another under a working minimum, so the device has no power to keep running.

What's the use of reporting the battery level if it's not accurate? All other devices I have just switch of faster when the battery degrades. The device still knows when the batterry is empty. The Universal is the only device I've ever encountered that claims the battery is 45% full when in fact it's empty.
Apart from that, it's demolishing batteries at a ridiculously high rate. I have 5 year old PDA's which still function perfectly and that were used just as much a back then.

I bought something similar to this on ebay. The two batteries I got last a lot shorter than the factory battery. I cycled the batteries 5 times and still the capacity has not increased. I would say I get about 25% shorter battery life with these batteries...they do a good job of making them look authentic...minus they all have the same serial number stamped on them...
ahh i was hoping it had more mah, its not even worth the extra money to purchase this. the things people make, its not even worth it.

Conditioning a Li-Ion battery is a myth and you only speed up the lifetime of the battery that only lasts about 2-3 years.
When you get your phone, you should plug it in, charge it to full, and have fun with it. None if this "charge, discharge, charge, discharge" is needed.

It's not a myth, sort of.
It takes a few cycles for the sensor to accurately understand the capacity of the battery. This means the battery might be detected as "empty," when there's some left.
After that, you only need to "recalibrate" once in three months or so to stay updated. For everyday use, you are right. It's better to charge whenever possible (but constantly trying to "charge" at 100% is not a good thing, even with the "smart chip" halting the process).

The exception was Friday when my bus got stuck in traffic, so I watched video for an hour. Previously, I could last about 8 hours before needing to charge.
For what it's worth, I'm a heavy SMS and data user. Don't really talk all that much, but do a lot of SMS, surfing, apps, and other PDA-ish activities with my Fuze. Running the Elite RC2 ROM as well.

Went from about 8 hours to about 12-13 hours, unless I do something super-draining like watch video for an extended period of time. Mind you, I've only had the battery in what... 4 days now, so this is still very limited scope.
Today, I was up at 6AM @ 100%... spent about 30 minutes surfing on the train, during my commute in... did some SMS... and just spent the last 90 minutes stuck in a meeting playing Freecell... and am at 57% full.

and also as a backup! the main reason i might buy this is not to completely replace my original battery, but between the two, you can easily get through a heavy day of usage... now to find a charging dock for the extra battery...

This might be true for laptop batteries but not necesarily true for phone batts.. the phones monitor the battery's voltage and compute the state of charge based on that.. there is no "smart" guts in phone batteries
Have you guys noticed any issue with the charging speed of this phone?
Last night when I went to sleep, 8PM (i know early), the battery was at 9 or 10 percent. I plugged it into the charger and all that. So this morning I go to remove the charger to check e-mail and what have you. 94%.... Come on, its 4:30 AM so that is eight and a half hours and not 100%?
Is this in the experience of anyone else? (Also do not let stock battery meter fool you, it doesn't show accurate measurement of the battery.) If not, what are you guys doing? Or is there anything I can do?
Honestly, 8 hours to charge your phone does not seem right. Something is wrong with your battery. The vibrant does take a long time to fully charge, but never 8+ hours. It usually takes mine a good 3-4 hours when my battery is dead.
I highly recommend download the application juice defender. Research and learn how to use it. It will save you tons of battery.
I'm currently on my 38th hour since the last time I unplugged my phone and I still have 8% battery. Btw, I've been using my phone for phone calls, texting, and playing games.

No, I leave my phone on. Usually with Wifi too.
Also, I have a simple wallpaper that is mainly black (it has some blue designs, but the wallpaper is mostly black). Having a black wallpaper saves battery as well because the color black consumes the least of amount of energy from our screens.
Well my homescreen is pretty black. Black mesh background, black icons (bettercut). Black bar mod. Just got done configuring juicedefender, even bought the pro version. Figure if it doesn't work out I can simply return within 24h. And, I will know within 24 if it is helping the draining.
Leaving Wifi/Bluetooth/etc on will suck your battery down. Turn it on only when you need it. This is true of all smart phones.
My Vibrant will charge to full in a couple of hours from dead. I get 10+ hours on a charge even with heavy use but I almost never use Wifi or BT so YMMV. I definitely get better battery life from the Vibrant than the old G1.
Curious if you could pay attention some time when your awake... my phone rarely charges past 98%. Wondering if your phone is charging up to 94% quickly, and then hovering or if it's actually taking 8 hours to get to that point?

I can plug my phone in around 10pm and at 6am my battery sometimes says 98-99%, but normally is good to go shortly afterwards. I do turn my phone off at night and those that need me do have my home number too unless I'm traveling.
As well I normal usage is 6am-10pm or so and I have typically 40-60% left on the battery depending on the usage. Yes I do check the About Phone and not relying on the wacked out battery meter.
I don't leave wifi, gps or 3g on all the time simply because I don't need them. Id rather squeeze the battery than have something on that isn't being used anyways. Having that quick settings drop down in the Notification bar rocks.
I have the same issue. It always takes about 4.5 -6 hours to 'fully' charge my Vibrant from <10% regardless of whether the phone is on or off. Then after unplugging the charger, the battery info states that the battery is charged to 96%. My belief is that there are firmware issues with at least some TMO Vibrant phones. I'm also dubious of the USB charger. I've ordered a regular charger and I'll see if my suspicion surrounding the USB charging system is founded. Maybe...

Mine takes about 3 hours to charge but I normally get about 13 hours a day on it with normal to serious use. I haven't had a problem with battery life since I purchased it but I have been trying new battery saving techniques to see how long I could make it last.
Currently using a mostly black background. Wifi only when I'm in the house. Brightness all the way up. Synching two email accounts and Facebook all day. Definitely getting the most out of the battery that I could expect.

Well mine takes a while but not that long. I'm going to try out the juiceDefender that was mentioned but the other thing I would recommend is the accurate battery mods that can be found in the Themes and apps section. You can flash with clock work and it's a great way to know what your battery is actually at so you can see how much you're using for various things.
Make sure your charger or USB port has high current output. There are some out there with only a few hundred milliamps. The phone will take nearly one amp and should charge in a few hours.
Excellent point. For me, I'm using the supplied Samsung USB to 110v adapter and I'm getting 4.5-6 hour charge times.

Also the USB cable is important too. 1 amp over a long, skinny 5 volt cable can drop the voltage. If the charging chip sees a lower voltage, it will think the USB port is at capacity.
I love this phone but I must be honest.. this phone is worst as the Motorola cliq battery wise. it's terrible. I had 100 percent battery life at 8am and at 10:50am I had 23 percent battery left............ no matter what I was doing.. even if I had the screen on full blast *i had it on the lowest* it still shouldn't be almost dead in 3 hours .... smh!

One poorly written application running in the background could be causing the CPU to wake up constantly. Yet I can talk for hours and the battery will still be nearly full.
I know for sure one of the latest versions of Facebook ate batteries like crazy. I ended up installing an older version and my battery life returned.
Update on the issue. I was using juice defender but it wasn't doing anything for me as far as I could tell. I have since turned off vibrate on touch, and noises coming on during clicking. I am using a usb hub with two vibrants on it. I'll plug it into the wall tonight and see how that goes.
I have been turning off my wifi when not using it. A little better I suppose. While typing this I went from 49 to 46 percent and I am a fast typer. No wifi bluetooth gps.

Yes the battery drains pretty fast, and it does take about 3 hours to charge... my main problem is... at night when I plug in to charge, couple hours later I get woken up by a beep and popup window telling me charging is done and to unplug...

The latest in Li-ion batteries, as the one in our phones, one duty cycle is when you use 100% of the charge.
That is ifyou go from 100 to 0 that's one cycle.
If you go from 100 to 50, recharge and again 100 to 50, that's one cycle.
Batteries wear out depending on the number of duty cycles. More duty cycles, more wear.
So what you are doing will not wear out the battery.
Also I'm not sure about this, but it is recommended that newer batteries should not be completely discharged.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, anyone else who can confirm.

Use your device, and don't worry about the battery. It'll do just fine until the day you decide to buy a new device. Now stop worrying and just use it.

Same here, these batteries are tough. I am anal about my phone battery being charged. Haven't had an issue for years and I expect the same performance out of my S7E
Topping up your battery before it is fully discharged is the best way to extend your battery life. Modern batteries run best between 40%-80% charge. Minimize the number of times you fully discharge the battery as that is more likely to wear out the battery, although it is ok to use it until the phone shuts off once in a while.
Very impressed with the battery of the S7E. I charged to 100% last night and didn't charge until just an hr ago and was at 47%. Normal use in the morning til now. In n out of meeting, so its doing its job.
Now back to the topic of this thread, i've read some say these newer batteries should be power cycled at least once a month. Any one recommend that or against it? Haven't done it myself but did it a few times on my iPhone 6 Plus and that thing had an awesome battery even though its actually smaller than the S7E. Thoughts???

I've seen it recommended as often as once per month or as infrequently as once every 3 months. The general consensus is that it can be beneficial in that it can correct any issues that the phone software has in determining the battery's capacity, not that it is actually helping the battery itself.
Yup, I did that once in a while with my previous device (a Sony), and the battery on that one is still very good after nearly three years. I wouldn't do it that often though, but it's useful to do it when you notice the battery meter hangs on the lower numbers (like if 10% hangs for an unusually long time) or you've just flashed a ROM. The OS tends to get a little confused after some time, so it's okay to do it to "calibrate" the system again.

Draining a Lithium battery to zero is one of the worst things you can to an Li battery. Don't do it. Period. Ever.
Yes, don't power cycle a battery. It MAY help give a more accurate battery reading, but it's messing up the longevity.

I just purchased a brand new Nexus 6p that was purchased about two years ago directly from Google. The individual bought it but never even opened up the box so the phone has never been used or even turned on until four days ago when I got it. My question is this. Even though it's still a brand new 6p can the battery still degrade even though it has never been used before? My first thought would be no because the battery has never been used meaning no wear and tear to the battery even though it's just been sitting there unopened for two yesrs but then I got to debating this with myself and I just don't know the clear answer. Should I be okay in terms of the degrading battery issue since my battery has never been used before? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Battery degradation occurs through it's lifetime of charging cycles due to heat (and chemical changes within the battery). Since your device has not been subject to this, it should be like new. Note there are literally thousands of N6P users who have never experienced battery degradation (or bootlooping). We have 3 in our family and none have been affected. I suggest you just let the phone charge and discharge normally a few times before you start forming any judgement on your battery life or SOT. Install Accubattery and check the battery health after several deep charges. After several full charge cycles, Accubattery will estimate the capacity of your battery vs. a new one (3450 mAh). Enjoy your new 6P. It has been a great phone so far (knock wood).

I appreciate the clarification on that. I wasn't sure when the degrading process started on a battery was. I love you this phone. In fact it's my second time owning it and by far it's my all time favorite Android phone I've ever used. I'm glad to know my battery should act as new and I should be okay from the battery issues. I appreciate you explaining in detail to me about what to do and how to check my battery life. I'll download that app now.

Okay I just downloaded accubattey. Now once I charge it for a while I will get results about the health of my battery. What do I need to look for that's tells me it's good? Any tips on using the app. So indeed I never should charge past 80 percent? I always have charged to 100 percent so that's going to take some getting used to. Also I don't need to let it drop below 20 percent? Thanks again for your help on this. This is all new to me as I've never had to guard against a bad battery before nor have I ever had one. I hope my new 6p will be okay. So far it's seemed to have kept a good charge but I'd of course like to see it do a little better being that it has a 3450amp battery inside. There have been a couple times of times where it seemed to eat up battery life quickly but I found out I had some apps running in the background such as YouTube once where it consumed 77 percent of the battery overnight once but I have since fixed that. I've always charged my battery to 100% and will continue . I leave it on the charger at the office and home, all night long 24/7. When I leave the house I want to know it is 100%. One thing to note is that you should not take the phone off the charger until the APP tells you it is charged, not the phone itself. You will see current flowing into the battery sometimes 45 minutes to an hour after the phone says 100%. That, and let the phone drain down to below 20% first in order to get an accurate charge measurement. After that you look on the health tab for the estimated capacity. It will be provided in both mAh and percentage. Quick Start guide here.

So you actually charge your battery to 100 percent. I guess I will do the same since I'm used to doing it that way plus I want that extra 20 percent charge. This seems like a really good app. I appreciate you guys on giving me the heads up on it. I downloaded it to both of my devices which my daily driver is the axon 7 mini. That battery isn't the best so maybe this app will help me tweak that battery into keeping a longer charge. I like a smaller device to be my daily driver although for right now my 6p is my daily driver just bc it's new but after a couple weeks I'll swap back over to my axon 7 mini as my daily driver

Yeah, I disable that 80% charge alarm first thing. Accubattery is just a tool and it's just giving you an estimate so don't rely solely on it. I will say that after a few full charges it converges to one percentage value and for me that has been enough confidence that my battery is not in a degrading trend (so far). There are a few Accubattery haters out there but it's been a solid tool for me. Enough so to buy the Pro version. Good luck to you.

Much appreciated! Yeah I think I'm going to be fine in regard to my battery. I mean it's brand new so there has been no usage of the battery until as of about three days ago. I'm super excited to have gotten this unbelievable deal I got on my 6p. Never in a million years was I expecting it either. I got in touch with this guy by chance. There was never any intent on getting a brand new Nexus 6p for 150 dollars but by the end of our conversation that's what he offered me. Just a very generous guy.
