[Q] HowTo easily open the wildfire? - Wildfire General

Hi, i know this question seems incredible.... but...
I managed in many manner to open the wilfdire to reach the battery/simcard/SDcard but it is a real headhache... no success...
(weeks ago it was not easy but i did it)
Anyone knows a good method to open it?

If you are wondering how to remove the battery cover, there is a small "gap" on the top where you easily can use your nails to pull the cover back and reach the battery etc

Indeed. My teeth grate as the thing feels it will break into 2 and makes all those plasticky noises.

I did it..... at least and is *very* simple....
At my age, too many neurons are lost unfortunately. Consider this post closed, as an example for a fool that sometimes must be made.

With a new wildfire it is a bit hard due to the fact that we concern about our phone. But after opening it many times, it is not that hard.

The screws on my wildfire are torx 5 aka T5 screws, so u need a screwdriwer or bit that is T5.
EDIT: Theyre T5, not T6 as i previously mentioned. I messed up with numbers, my old nokia E51 had T6 screws, but wildfire has T5. I just tested, T5 fits and T6 doesnt.

Put a fingernail in the hole, pull back a bit to make the crack between the back cover and the phone about 1mm. Then just move the fingernail towards the audio socket and pull back gently again. Works every time.

Oh if you mean the back cover, just put your nail in hole and pull the halves apart.

[GUIDE][IN-PROGRESS] Ripping the thing open: A guide to disassembling your DHD

A prelude...
Right, the other day I dropped my DHD onto some concrete from about 2 meters... Predictably the glass digitizer shattered!
However, I have no insurance (because I'm an idiot) and HTC quoted a repair cost of £85. Yes, £85. So I hit ebay and bought a digitizer, and decided to do the job myself!
Before I start:
1) THIS WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY
2) I am not responsible if you do anything wrong, or even if you do everything right and it still goes wrong, or if your girlfriend leaves you, or if your dog dies, or if... You get the point
Part 1: Preparation
What you will need:
Your hands
A little brute force
1) Turn your DHD off!
2) Remove battery door and battery.
3) Remove sim card cover and take out sim card + SD card.
Done! That was definately the easy part...
Part 2: Taking off the unibody cover
What you will need
A torx 5 and torx 6 (T5, T6) screwdriver (or a very small flathead)
A small flathead screwdriver
LOTS of brute force
Some brain cells
1) Remove the LED flash cover. To be honest im not sure if their is a way this is meant to be done properly, but I used a flathead screwdriver (a VERY small one) to force it out from the top. This of course risks damaging the unibody cover but I really cant see a better way of doing it! (Turns out there is a better way of doing it, but you need an 'opening tool.' Cool).
2) Undo the 5 T6 screws holding the unibody to the device, they are labelled in the picture below in purple:
If you dont undo the screw underneath the LED flash cover and try to pull the unibody off, you end up with this:
Yes, I am that stupid.
(Still works though!)
I actually used a small flathead screwdriver to undo the T6 screws, but this risks ruining the screw itself. Also, the screws are tiny so make sure you keep them safe!
3) Remove the volume strip, its just a piece of plastic that covers the buttons inside, pinch it and then gently pull it upwards. It is quite delicate so be careful!
4) Slide the unibody case off. This isnt as easy as it sounds, it involves some brute force and some shimmying around... Be careful though! When I did this I think I damaged the LED at the top that flashed when you are low on battery. To be honest I found it extremely irritating anyway so I'm quite glad...
Part 3: errr...
Ok, I must admit I haven't actually got any further yet, I'm in the process of peeling away the old glass digitzer. When the new one arrives on wednesday I will complete this guide, but in the meantime here is a picture of the beasts' insides! If you have any requests for anymore pictures please don't hesitate to ask:
Poor thing
man, i think you should remove "desire hd" from your signature! =o)
i just want to know a little more about power button and volume button, since i think i will need to change it someday! =oP

Sure!
Power button:
It's the small grey square thing, the rest of it is attached quite nicely to the unibody!
Volume button/thing:
Looks quite flimsy the actual bit of plastic itself that comes off can be bought on ebay though!
Nice
Thanks for this but a fix guide from the manufacturer would have been great...
For peeling away old digitizer, put your DHD for 5min in oven previously heated to 60°C .
One guy do it with HTC Desire and it works. There is actually full guide from this guy how to change digitizer on HTC Desire (not DHD) but guide is in latvian and Google translate is not very accurate, so it will not help you But idea with oven heated to 60°C is usable.
And dont overheat it
I found a disassembly video on youtube.

If anyone wants me to finish the guide I can, I got as far as getting the LCD off.

If its toast then please keep going, anything your able to document will help the next one of us that ends up having to take our phone apart.

[Q] Taking apart tips

this goes out to people who have had any experience taking the hd2 apart, not interested in other comments thanks,
Basically im gonna rip it open tonight and attempt to fix my micro usb charger port, phone isnt being used i have a sgs2 now, so its no hassle if it dont work ill claim on my insurance, so looking for tips and advice on what to and what not to do when taking this beast apart please.
thanks in advance
cant send it to HTC because they already sent it back to me,
These are the YouTube videos I followed when I swapped my digitizer/LCD.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL-jnUKufC4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8Q7mXdcJ54
The only thing I encountered with my TMOUS HD2 is that one of the four torx screws that you have to remove to get into the unit has a "VOID" sticker that is exactly the size of the screw head and it came apart when I attempted to remove it. I don't know how this will affect an insurance claim if you pursue this yourself.
Also, pay close attention when moving/pulling wires. You have to put them back in the right order and pathways so that the phone closes properly. The volume up/down button is also a bit tricky when reassembling. I found it easiest to place it in the housing and keep it level so it doesn't misalign when putting the housing back on.
Good luck!
With the VOID stickers if you are extremely careful and steady handed you can remove them with a toothpick. What I did is take a toothpick and run it around the edges of the stickers to kind of loosen it up. If you are very careful you can kind of push the sticker around a little just enough to loosen it up then you can get the toothpick under it and pull up the sticker without tearing it. Just take your time it is not that easy but it isn't that hard either.
Aww man bsbokc, I wish I had you around when i worked on mine. I tried with a safety pin and I guess it was too sharp and it just tore right through it. I didn't think to trace the edge, I simply tried grabbing an edge and pulling across it. Fail.
A little heat might help soften the adhesive too. Just not too much to damage the phone though!

I personally won't do anything with heat with my phones. But since I am posting here I guess I will ask you guys a quick question so I don't have to open a thread. Do all of the TMOUS HD2's have just one void sticker on the bottom right hand screw or are there two stickers each on the bottom screws?
I have a phone I have to send into HTC and I pulled one sticker from my myTouch but I thought there were two stickers on the HD2 can someone please look and tell me?
Just follow the videos carefully and pause often. Make sure you have all equipment and take
your time..
good luck

I've worked on mine and two of my friends' TMOUS HD2s. It's always been one void sticker on the bottom right (volume button side).
The simplest way of taking you phone apart.... Get a credit card... American express proffered because it is hard..... Use a rzor blade and remove void stickers careful.. Open scrues gently... Makesure not to leave any mark on the screw...... Take the credit card and force it in the joint on the right side of the headphone part... Then gently push borax from battery compartment area.... Also help you self a bit by prying the lcm with the credit card... Once it is out a bit... Do same thing for other side... Don't slide it to the other side... You may damage you head phone..... Once it is out a bit from top... Slide the card the sides until it opens up... Warning don't. Slide near the keypad.... You might damage the copper connector for antenna. And whether phone is out... You volume key will pppout too :F

Well guys I got it apart and back together,
little damage to the case trying to open it as it never went back together properly when it was sent away last time.
I would say, make sure you have a stiff plectrum (guitar pic) so much easier
take your time,
and if you get stressed take a break.
I got it all back together again, couldn't get a new micro usb connector on as the main board is screwed.

Broke the front glass of my G2 :( -- FIXED! :)

Everything works fine (except for the camera focus, which I can live with since everything is in focus always as it is because it shoots at like f/8). What's weird is that it has survived so many other falls onto concrete, and this just happens now.
I really need to replace the glass as soon as possible. It looks pretty unprofessional cracked like this.. I am out of warranty (bought the phone in September 2010 from T-Mobile), and T-Mobile no longer has any G2s .
I've looked through a few people who have mentioned replacing their front glass, and would like to do so myself. Anyone have advice regarding how I could do this?

Okay - what would you recommend instead?
the glue that is on your phone now will sufice. when heat it up with hair dryer (be carefull if you use a heat gun) most of it will stay along the frame of your phone. just keep it warm and quickly put new digitizer back. have done it twice now with g2s and countless times with g1s and no dust has ever seeped in.
but with g1s i often replaced the casing as well. here i would use 3m double sided tape that worked very well. if you are also replacing the case or for some reason dont feel the glue is enough use this

I recommend 2mm 3M adhesive tape. I have used it for the 3 g2s I own and it holds darn well. Its less then 5 bucks on amazon and you will have quite a bit of it. Dont use glue. I always take off that old black tape.

The tape doesn't make the digitizer bulge away from the surface at all? I feel like it would. I'll give that link a buy though, just in case.
the tape he and i is refuring to is thinner than paper, i have not needed it for a g2 before but only have done 2 digitizers on these so i cant say its never necessary unless you are replacing the case as well, but its cheap to have around and may be needed

No if you stack it right I had to stack three pieces of that tape to flush it. It does not move around if you tape in the right spots. Its very thin and almost invisible.
That is weird... I did the SAME thing last week lol! I busted it on the concrete too and everything. It scratched up the bezel pretty bad too. I had insurance so I ended up getting the MT4GS (aka HTC Doubleshot). I love how speedy it is but I REALLY miss the development here and the GREAT community here in the Desire Z/G2 sub forum As far as repairing/replacing the screen (the digitizer specifically), everyone here gave great advice. I used to repair phones for a number of years and we always used a sealant very similar to double sided tape that y'all were mentioning. It basically was foaming glue that acted similar to silicon or something. I agree that about not using super glue. Bad idea. Also be careful with the ribbon wires and watch a few videos prior to disassembly. There were a few tear down threads here I'd keep handy while repairing. Good luck to ya!
Make sure you are VERY careful when removing the lcd its very fragile. I reaced my digitizer easy and was careful and lcd got mrssed up ie no pic. Ordered a new lcd and it had not brightness control always dim waiting for new replacement now. Side note once new screen comes in I will be selling this phone if anyone is interested i have 3 of them only need 2

Son of gun. The last three screws I need to remove do NOT fit with the philips head screwdriver that was recommended. Now I get to scramble around with my phone in pieces trying to find a smaller philips head screwdriver. Awesome.
They are philips head, not torque screws. I checked and triple checked.
Anyone have any idea what to do here? I can't find smaller screwdrivers anywhere. Home depot has got nada.
Go out and buy a precision screwdriver set or maybe a eye glasses repair kit. Only the first 3 screws are torx T5. Also there is 7 of them tiny ones not 3. There is 3 on either side and one more under keyboard backstop

No it's the three screws across the back at this time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=u-dR8CHEGjY#t=251s).
They are smaller than all the others and I still cannot get them out. I cannot find an eye glasses repair kit or precision screwdriver set small enough.
http://www.repairsuniverse.com sent me the screwdrivers for the Inspire 4G. Pretty sure the digitizer is for the G2 but I'll have to check the screen sizes to make sure.
Update. Fry's elecronics had a repair kit for smartphones that fit the screws. Still working on it.

if you keep watching the video you will see that when he removes the sticky keyboard backstop there are three more identical size screws mirrored from the ones you are talking about right on edge of phone, and then when you remove that piece after you remove the screws there wiil be one more (this makes number 7 ) screw of the same size tiny. Also i dont think it is metioned in the video but when you go to remove the keyboard backstop (the shiny piece under the sticky strip ) use your safe pry tool to unlock the tabs from the edge and then you must slide the piece towards the center of the phone it does not just pry off there are tiny tabs holding one side down opposite of the screws ( edge of phone ) And as far as the screwdriver for eye glasses repair, is it you cant find one or it just does not work? You should be able to find one at any walgreens or equivalent drug store or pharmacy. You could also try a hobby shop they might have something that will work. I personally use quite a big screwdriver to disassemble you just need to make sure it has a sharp point at the tip of the star ( mine is a phillips number 00 ) Believe me once you get it apart once you will be that was so easy.

How to smash microphone..?

This may sound like a silly request, but please bare with me...
I have an HTC Hero... and on its motherboard, the microphone is firmly soldered, and thus, the only way to remove it would be to apply heating, and do all kinds of delicate stuff, which I guess I could pay someone to do, but if it messes up, then the entire motherboard is toast...
Here is a thread about removing the soldering of a mic.
Anyway.... the point is... I guess I could attempt to pay someone to do the de-soldering, but it seems very delicate, and I can easily imagine it going wrong..
And so... the question is.. is there any way that I can, basically, SMASH the microphone, so that it is no longer functional..? I know it seems like a silly idea, but I'm really looking to break this thing... I want to use an external microphone only, and not the internal one, so I want to make sure it isn't functional.
Here are some pictures of the microphone, if it helps....
http://i.imgur.com/TD6idad.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/aObemwr.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/gkLbGEP.jpg
As you can see, it's a rounedd square metal thing, with a hole in the middle, leading to more metal... I'm just looking to make it non-functional, by physically breaking it....
OK. Thanks
Um.
I think that de-soldering it would be less destructive and less likely to break other things than trying to smash it.
Pennycake is right, get a desoldering braid or some other solder puller, less chance you'll accidentally run something else while trying to destroy the microphone.

Doh, was supposed to click Reply, not Thanks. ;D
Sharp thing + little hammer sounds to be most interesting non-soldering solution. But I'd still consider it as more dangerous than just using hot-air station.
I guess someone should be asking exactly why you'd want to do this?
Insert a sharp thing in the mic, like a compass point or needle.
EDIT : Just saw the above answer...sorry.
That's easy.... u go boom boom boom bababoom!
Hot air station is safer.. XD
All the best...

Kill it with fire and ice!
Sharp things will damage the diaphragm, but they might not prevent it from picking up sound completely, if it's not bent just so.
I would recommend peeling any protective mesh off the top, and then filling it up completely with superglue. If you can find a tube of superglue with a needle point, you'll be able to fill it from the inside up. Superglue has very low surface tension and will fill the space quite nicely - a thicker glue like hot glue might blob over the hole but not fill the void.
Alternatively, taking a pair of side cutters/wire cutters and carefully cutting up the can will do the job too. Don't pull on the legs too hard and your board should be fine.
If you break it physically, wouldn't the phone still "think" it's there? I would imagine smashing it on the software side would better, but I could be way off
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I think a hot air gun could do it since it will only blow a little hot air on its point.
I've got a idea..
........
launch under the train :cyclops:
you should try desoldering it as smashing it will destroy your motherboard
There is probably a way to corrupt the way the kernel talks to the mic

HTC One Teardown (Really not that bad)

Hey Guys i recently dropped my device into some water, no biggie device still worked and everything, but it was an excuse to get a device with slightly better Bin, so i filed a insurance replacement. So i figured i had already screwed it up, why not take it apart before sending it back.....
As with probably everyone we have all seen the IFIXIT tear-down of our device and they had some issues taking it apart, and even damaging the plastic bezel on the housing. So i was intimidated, but i wanted to see if it really was that hard.....
Guys its NOT HARD AT ALL....The hardest part is the plastic on the sides is actually pretty soft, but the only damage i had was before i heated the device up i tried trying to pry the speaker cover off with just a screwdriver (bad idea). This gave me some very very slight damage where i was prying against the plastic. With the heat and then pry this wont happen. (the adhesive is ridiculous by the way, some very strong stuff (I blame 3M)
Step 1: Heat up device with a hairdryer at the bottom speaker cover, your going to need to get it pretty hot (be careful, your speaker is under that)
Step 2: With device still nice and toasty take a spreader ( i used a guitar pick, but i was thinking a hot razor blade slid under might be more effective)
Step 3: Gently work spreader under speaker cover and work from one end to the other, I used a razor blade to get a gab and then work it off, wasn't to hard since the adhesive is warm and easy to peel off the cover. (be careful, you still have to use that adhesive to put it back on, or use another adhesive)
Step 4: Once bottom speaker cover is off take your spreader and place it between the black part of the housing and the silver part (essentially the phone is placed in a aluminum shell, and you need to get it out).
Step 5: With Spreader placed between the chases gently slide from one end to the other, on the right side by the speaker cover is a white tab, slowly leverage this tab separating the black housing from the silver housing, then pry up from one side to the other tell you get a decent gap.
Step 6: Take your separator and go a side of your phone, doesn't matter which one is done first, just like the previous step, place your spreader between the black housing from the silver, and gently slide from the bottom up, if your doing it right you will hear 3 clicks and that side is separated.
Step 7: Take your spreader and repeat Step 6 on the other side until you hear three clicks.
Step 8: Take spreader back to the bottom and gently pry up pulling the black housing out of the silver Back housing, while doing this you may need another spreader to pry the bottom and then go around the sides to make sure it comes out freely.

If you have a gap, there is no need to take the phone apart.
Just get some super glue in there and clamp tight.
And here are the OEM replacement parts if you screw up
http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-rear-housing.html
I was wondering. Is it possible to ONLY touch the body (ie the housing + speaker grills) and replace them? There are a lot of people who scratched their ones and may want to replace the outside.
