Hi i am new here and to new to android . I want to flash my xperia x10 form the stock software to 2.2 or higher. I have read most of the guides and am still unsure which rom and baseband to use. I am running Ubuntu 10.
thanks
I would suggest Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3, it's fast and stable, and looks nice =)
It is also easy to install since it needs baseband .54, which you can get it from the .435 stock firmware directly.

i would have to agree that Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 would be the rom of choice. It is super stable and quite fast too.
You will need to root your phone, and then install xRecovery. Then you can install ROMS from the xRecovery menu.
Root using superoneclick and then copy the xRecovery APK to your phone and install it. Download the ROM files and copy them to your SD card, reboot into xRecovery and follow the ROM installation steps (backup all your stuff on your phone first - i suggest My Backup Root (from the market) - provided you have rooted it already). If you want to try different basebands, i have included a link for them too.
As for doing all this from ubuntu - i think you will need to be running a Windows VM or find another pc that has Windows installed, i tried from Ubuntu myself but it was just easier from a Winblows machine.

I'm also kind of a noob, but I really want to make this stuff work...
I took this thread as a base, I currently have the 2.1 official update on my X10. So far I used the superclick tool and it said it rooted my phone (how can I make sure it worked?)
Then I downloaded the stuff and run the xRecovery app, it said it granted some superuser thing, but then I see nothing else...
Any help appreciated, specially if I skipped some steps maybe?
if you want to check if you are rooted, intall titanium backup and see if the app runs. If it does, then you've got root.
I didnt get what you wanted to ask in the second part of your question though..
I was missing an app from the market
Ok I got it working
So far I'm testing this new stuff...woah, amazing.
Any recommendations of things (ROMs) I should try?
p.s. I got no signal and WiFi won't turn on... I guess this is normal?
@ aR_ChRiS and mrtim123
Second that Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 is one of the most complete 2.2 roms. But you'll want to look up post on how to:
- root your phone
- install xRecovery (requires busybox), and how to use it
In case if you "brick" your phone or get stuck in a boot loop, look up for "flashtool".
Hope this helps.

I put together an easy to follow with step by step instructions and made it as noob proof as possible. Check it out, follow the guide in my sig. Iv tried to explain everything in as much detail as possible

WIFI, camera and everything else works great for me. Except for the camcoder, it's got a bit of audio sync problem if not using the right setting.

How do you get it to the right setting? and someone told me it drains your battery. is this true?
Yes battery life isn't that great but acceptable for me.
~24 hours under medium usage
~12-15 hours under heavy use
You need to have your focus setting set to infinity to have better audio sync.
To be honest I don't think the camcorder is up to average user's standard, but camera works just fine.
Things I like from this rom are:
- improved performance (very few lags, things run much smoother than stock 2.1 especially when texting)
- android 2.2 apps & features (gmail 2.3, flash, JIT...)
- no random reboots
- the unlock slider does not lag after the screen is off for awhile
Known issues to my knowledge:
- incomplete camcorder
- no live wallpaper
In case you haven't noticed tho, devs here have figured out a way to bypass x10's bootloader. This will enable us to load custom kernels.
All the roms here before the breakthrough are only built on top of the stock 2.1 kernel. That's causing some limitations in developing custom roms (issues such as having a working driver for x10 camera)
So if u can wait for a bit I'm sure there will be better roms (with android 2.3) coming in the next couple months! And Sony has announced there will be official 2.3 upgrade coming possibly during this summer.
However I've been using wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 for over a month now, would really recommend it if ur not that into video recording lol

do you have Cyanogenmod Settings in Settings? if so, there should be section for custom brightness levels, where you can set it separately for the screen and for the hardkeys - at least that's how it is in AMA, which is CM-based

I have the same problem. Posted this question on another forum but no answer yet! I tryed ndrive 11 and still doesn´t work.
I have the same problem with ndrive 10, it won't opened but didn't show any FC message.
Ndrive 11 works on my RC3 but I couldn't manage to install the map since it didn't recognised my existing map.
Currently, I switched to Mapdroyd.

Edit your build.prop file so that your density is set to 240 (default).

This is a known glitch from the market, some devices have problems with it, try looking into http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/ha5oh/root_how_to_edit_your_buildprop_to_make_netflix/ or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13735230&postcount=504
That should do it.

To fix permissions you just have to run ROM manager and click on fix permissions, it will run and you're done. But that personally didn't work for me.

I think the best thing to do with the market is downgrade it and keep it that way, I'm gonna try it soon too (have the same probs).

- You can change the dpi to get bigger icons (standard = 240)
- Have you installed the newest market? if so, try the old one
- Disable compatible mode in spare parts
- Fix permissions is in the cwm menu
Search a little bit, and you will find
Thanks guys appreciate this alot hope it works how can I downgrade my market when I download it it doesn't. Install

Thanks ill try that ...... I domt want to b a pain in the -*- but I did the build.prop stuff like 5 times abd it just goes back to 165 instead of 240 and I do click save and exit
Try to do it through the phone directly. Get ES file explorer through android market, its free and it will let you change the build.prop. Just don't forget to give it superuser permissions.
Hope this one helps.

+1. And if that doesn't work, you can try Root Explorer. It costs about $5 through the market, but it has always done anything I need it to do.
Has anyone patched Play for Tattoo yet?
Why would you want to patch it? It already displays every app that can be used on your phone.
To remove country restrictions and resolution/dpi restrictions.

A lot of apps dont support android 1.6 anymore most of them require android 2.x and higher. I would recommend you to flash a 2.x rom like cyanogenmod and nfinity. On those roms you will be able to install that apps

yeah i tried but they are either too slow or do not support arabic .. do u know from where i can get a 2.x stock ROM or not VERY modified ?
There's no 2.x stock ROM, only 1.6.
Can we please keep this ontopic, and that is patching Google Play.
I'm currently using a 2.2 ROM with Sense.
google play is updated automatically on CM7 Gingerbread i dont think it will update on earlier ROMs
But i think someone should do a patch for earlier ROMs
I have it in my ROM, working. I don't have it patched.
