Hi my Darkstone build has started to bring up "the prcess android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. please try again" so im just going to reinstall the build on the sd card and start over. are there any solutions to this before i do? and if there are none, is there a way i can save my text messages? where is the file located to save the texts? thanks everyone!
I would suggest just using Titanium Backup from the Market (it's free) and do a batch backup of all user apps and system data before reinstalling. You can then restore everything once you're finished. However, if you'd prefer to only backup your messages, just backup "Dialer Storage 2.x.x" and "Messaging 2.x.x". I think that should do it, but you may want to only backup the storage--messaging may install alongside whatever version you're using if it's not the same. What ROM are you using?
titanium backup will do the job
Or just use sms backup and restore from the market. It does back up and restore with schedule backups.
Sent from my HD2
use sms backup and restrore. It's the best i ever used.

Greetings,
I am currently running sombionix's Stock 2.2 ROM. I am interested in exploring a couple different ROMs, but don't want to go through the work of reinstalling all my apps, settings, data, etc when I find one I like.
What's the best way to back all that stuff up, so I can reinstall it easily over a new ROM?
Do a Nandroid backup. Go into Rom Manager and select Backup Current ROM.
in CWR:
Make a Backup (this is a snapshot of your entire system)
Titanium Backup:
Backup all user apps + Data
I also backup Wifi Hotspots (passwords) and bookmarks
DO NOT BACKUP/RESTORE RED ITEMS
SMS Backup +
For all texts and MMS
LauncherPro / ADW:
Backup settings in their menus

Ti Backup can also backup texts/SMS messages. It's green and labeled either:
[SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage 2.2
[SMS/MMS PREFS] Messaging
True, I just like that with SMS Backup+ they get stored in an SMS folder within gmail, that is searchable!
Unfortunately, on top of all that you probably need to backup (or download identical to yours) kernel version. Nandroid/cwm doesn't back it up, which can be a pain (which is you'll have to have a pc with odin).
Have a few questions I am sure some one can help with. I have been using Ti Backup to backup apps when updating Roms. No problem with the apps and bookmarks. Having trouble figuring out how to save text messages. I have tried saving MMS app and restoring but no prior texts. I have tried restoring just data and no go. What am I missing? What folder are the actual text messages saved in?
I also would like to pre load the ROM with apps before installing, but keep getting errors. Is this a signing issue or just me?
I have just started to use android commander to backup apps. I have tried to reinstall them back into the updated ROM, but also keep getting errors.
I really like Ti Backup, but it really takes a long time to run batch, go through each app, install, and hitting done for each app. May be there is a faster/easier way with Ti Backup.
Any help would be appreciated
Mac
You can make a zip using TB with all your apps which flashers them into /data.
il Duce,
Sorry for being so stupid. Do you mean zipping the backup file that TB uses? I don't see any option for making a zip with TB. Is it in the pro version?
Sorry again for my ignorance
Well I have pro, but I think its in both? Its in menu, more, create update zip. If you dont have that you can do an advanced restore of data with CWM. There are times you wouldn't want to, like going from froyo to ginger or back. Also sense to aosp. Full wipes are generally recommended, but these other things may work for you.
I used the create update.zip earlier today, and I got an error saying that it needed to use Edify. I might have an older version of TiBu, though. I was hoping to get it added to the list of things to flash from the start along with gapps, but no luck. It's not much more work to install the .apk and then batch restore from there, though.
I think switching to Pro allows you to do the batch without having to approve and accept each individual app installation. Not to mention that nice Dropbox storage.
Just use SMS Backup+ to backup SMS and MMS.
I am new to nexus 4 but not new to android .. with all my phones i experiment with different roms but everytime i change my rom i tack backup of all softwares and data manually and restore it againapp by app(very tedious process).. is there any way or software to do all the backup(call logs, sms, app+data ) and restore it automatically after changing the rom ...
please help
Yes there is. Titanium Backup allows you to back up to SD or cloud. You can backup all apks and data and restore in one go. It's not tedious but takes a little while... obviously.
The pro version of titanium backup allows one touch batch restores.
When I try to restore my sms messages with titanium backup all the conversation threads re appear but none of the messages are there. I backed up and tried to restore my sms on touchwiz based 4.4.2 roms. I've read around a bit and it seems like titanium backup isnt the best for restoring sms messages, I should have probably used a specific sms backup app. However, some people are saying restoring sms works with titanium backup on aosp roms so could I flash an aosp rom, resotre my sms with titanium backup, backup with a proper sms backup app, and then restore that new backup to my current rom ?
Is there any other way I can get my sms from the titanium backup ? Like can I convert it to a different backup type or something or open it and restore it with something else ?
Any help and advice will be appreciated, thanks.
Never mind I got it. I flashed an aosp rom, restored the sms trhough titanium backup, took a backup of that with sms backup and restore from the playstore, and restored the backup from that app on to my current touchwiz rom.
I haven't clean wiped my phone since taking delivery (March 2016) I'm rooted and have flashed every update up to N4F26J but I'v noticed a drop in battery even running the same kernel. I'd like to factory reset things then just restore apps and SMS. What is the best method to accomplish this? Previously I'd use SS Backup&Restore along with a Titanium Backup but that was a different device and different Andriod version, is there anything more efficient?
Thank you!
Thats what i do. Sms backup & restore by carbonite and titanium backup. Its pretty easy if you have the pro version of TB.
I use Titanium for user Apps and SMS...
g cloud is good if you dont know tit backup. tit backs up everything perfectly if you know how. for sms change your sms app in settings to titanium backup then go in titanium and back up (messages sms&mms) it'll be in yellow text. then you have to go back to your default sms app screen and change it back to hangouts, messenger or whatever you use. then in titanium backup find in settings create update.zip . as long as you dont wipe internal storage youll have your backups.
when restoring a backup change sms app default to [titanium backup] as your default messaging app. then go to in to tit backup and restore the generic looking yellow entry that says [Messages
(sms&mms)] what till its finished restoring. then just change the default messaging app back to hangouts or whatever you use.
you dont back up an sms app like messenger or hangouts because the sms are only read by those apps. their stored in (messages sms&mms) its a location in your phone.

Thats nuts. Ive seen where TB showed up as an sms app but never knew why. I'll definitely switch.
