so after about a week of fooking around with winmo i almost put it back up for sale on craigslist to send it back where it came from.
could not deal with this sht anymore( freezing, overheating, battery drain in standby, sms lagging, alarm not working and tonns more annoying issues)
2 different roms( i wanted to keep stock look and features, since most of cooked roms come with their own theme)
flashed chunky rom (lite version) with 12.50 radio havent tested it alone
then loaded up FroyoStone Series - Version 1 (07-Aug-2010) android rom
loaded jmz android dual boot app.
and so far it feels like im using a totally different phone.
one thing i regret is not doing it earlier.
everything seems to be working great,i definitely am able to use this phone more than i ever did with windows loaded on it.
loaded bunch of apps to see and they all work with no problems. even when an app gives an error it is eliminated with quickness.
everything is fast
android market is ridiculous packed with all kinds of sht(how fast it filled up with apps is insane)
alot of free ones to choose from
oh and almost forgot, the apps work without crashing the system.
i ve been on this phone for last 2 hours trying to figure out the android interface and its not even warm to touch as opposed to windows even in standby its very hot.
very sad that even in its early stage its much more usable than original OS
is there a WINMO HATER thread on xda btw?
beeing a new android user there are few things i have question about.
1 is there an X button to shut down apps like windows?
because most of the apps dont even have X button in app menu.
2 why does it try to crop the wallpaper even when its exact size to fit the screen?
3 Green LED blinks, THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE. This is a diagnostic feature to see if the phone has crashed or not.
mine is not on( it was on for a while) but its still functioning, is it supposed to blink when crashed or when working normally?
4 images in general seem to be reendered with much less quality than on windows boot.
theres also an option to install it with sense, is sense responsible for processing those highrez images or is it winmo?
5 i installed the SD card auto mount app. os that good or bad app to have?
would that interfere with anything?
why don't you sell the phone on craigslist and go buy you a samsung galaxy s?
why dont you buy one for me then.
i can sell the HD2 to you if u like. so you can have a backup...
HATER still defending the crippled OS abandoned by microsoft.
if it wasnt for XDA and few other forums winmo would fall on its face long time ago.
microsoft should thank you guys for keeping their name in mobile business, because without tweakers there would be no one to use it.
galaxy screen is smaller btw and its a samsung and it doesnt have flash and its piano finish and it resembles iphone
i would go for amoled screen tho that thing is super crispy...
see now i forgot what i was gonna ask because of you.
There's nothing crippled about winmo, only the lack of intelligence by the user to actually use it properly.

Totally agree with you....winmo is the best os only if one knows how to use it properly.
Yea its not so user friendly but if you want to modify an os winmo would be on the top of the list!

First, X'ing out of a program in WM does not shut it down...it keeps running in the background. Some programs have built in shut down options, but most of the time you have to use a task manager.
Likewise, in Android, as far as I know, pressing the home key lets you exit a app but it keep running in the background unless you shut it down with an app killer. Some apps have built-in shutdown options.
Ok guys lets not turn this into a my OS is better then yours is thread. Both of them have their pluses and negs, while I use use WM for everything work related I also use Android for messing around and games so to me each has its place.
Why is this thread even here this should be in general questions...

It is here because we do not have an android general forum set up yet, But the great joshkoss has been working on trying to get it set up.
alarming is the fact that winmo is installed onto consumer phones that are meant for general public
not everyone wants to learn how to edit their registry to make a feature work
some people actually want to use the phone once in a while u know...
but in windows you can enable a program to be terminated by holding the x button

I agree with you to a degree. Winmo is better for users that know (and enjoy) how to tweak their devices (which usually isnt the average user) however it is still perfectly usable with no tweaks applied (albeit not as good as when they are). You are exagerating when you say that the phone is unuseable without tweaks because i used mine for a few weeks with no tweaks whatsoever and i am sure many others here did too and the phone was fully functional. Just because you prefer android to winmo dosent make it any better (for the record i prefer android too)
For the answer to youe x button question see here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755504
I was never an android fan. I never used Android until yesterday. Nd even with this beta build is more stable and easier to use than winmo. First time sinnce I got this phone I didnt have to soft reset the phone for almost a day.

Not to sound funny but the 2 above posts are stating winmo is so good, yet your replies are sent from android ports??
So I've used winmo for a bit, and when I do finally (hopefully) flash android onto my phones nand, I don't even want to loose winmo, I really would like to keep winmo as well because it is a decent OS, not as terrible as many make it sound, it is usable for sure.
However, lets not kid ourselves, it's no match for android. Winmo is an aging OS, and it makes that obvious. Android just feels so seamless and so optimized for mobile devices.
kinda what i was trying to say but with many more words
anyone still use DOS?
but i was hoping to get more answers related to android questions i had and not to bring about another thread with winmo vs android.
theres no doubt android is better suited for mobile, although windows has the ability to copy delete and do many more low level operations from the phone, thats why im thinking abotu keeping this phone as well and hope that we can make a true dual boot phone so i can run a clean android boot and clean winmo boot.
hi all.
I have this phone 3rd day now and here are issues I discovered while using it.
It is a great phone, but needs serious update from guys in HTC.
-Navigation feature is utterly useless.it is so damn slow.in compass mode it is showing wrong direction.also I miss footprints implementation with Google maps.I know, you can open certain footprint in GM but I meant full support.this is only my suggestion but all in all navigation app is horrible and I think once used,it slows the DHD down.
-Sometimes it lags like hell.at least for me.I have installed only apps I've used before on old Desire and there I had no problems with slowdowns or lag.I am using app from market called "SystemPanel".basically it shows all your phone activities an running processes.it can also monitor phone performance over time.this app is showing that every time I wake up DHD CPU usage rises to 100% and stays there until I switch screen back off.then it drops to almost nothing.unfortunately it doesn't show which processes are using this much resources.this app always pointed me to the right direction when I was tracking down defective apps.i have already emailed the developer about this.it could be compatibility issue with this app and new DHD.it also shows that right after reboot almost 75% of RAM is in use.really?this phone has a huge RAM and if this is correct reading, than HTC did a lot of bad coding while making this new Soft.after some time of use my DHD becomes sluggish and lags a lot.I got rid of Samsung Galaxy S because of it's lag issue.I never had any similar problems on old Desire and it has much smaller RAM and was running on 2.1!
-Sync function is a bitt dogy as well.it takes ages to sync all the accounts and it took few attempts to sync with my Google account.I've seen someone posting about this,so I know I am not the only one with this problem.this brings me to all new
-htcsense.com.nothing seems to work right.at least for me.and this was one of the most highlighted features when this phone was announced.
-Camera software is not what I expected.I doubt it is hardware problem.it is just poorly programmed.in low-light conditions quality simply sucks.and I just don't understand why camcorder cannot work on higher frame rate.
-flash support is not that good too.If you select option in browser to "always use" after a while of browsing od flash sites phone gets so slow reboot is needed.after such a long time Adobe still cannot make proper mobile version.that is a fail by me especially when these days mobile devices are in almost everyone pocket and are widely used for web browsing.
That's about it.sorry that you had to read such long post, but that's my DHD experience so far.
My point is that guys un HTC software kitchen should sit down and fix this IMO rushed release and give as an proper update.until then this is great hardware being hold hostage by poor software.it is unacceptable for phone with such specs to be performing like this.
Come on HTC.we know you can do better.
Please share your experience too...

stock ROM is one solution.but i enjoyed HTC Sence on Desire.i hope they wil fix this one.
thx for confirming.at least i know i am not the only one with this problems.
I swapped out htc sense for launcherpro and also stopped all the syncing that htc sense requires like facebook for sense, twitter for sense, htc sense, stocks, news and weather.
I then set profiles within setcpu to allow for performance when the screen is on while scaling back the processor whilst the screen is off.
Installed spare parts and sped up some of the animations and bam! my desire hd is as fast as my nexus one was with CM6 with over-clocked kernel and all the lag has disappeared. I also have over 30 apps I have installed myself.
The problem with flash I'm sure will be fixed sometime, everyone is experiencing this slow down.

i don,t know what you mean by "running stock".
and no.i don't use any task killer.don't think it is needed in Froyo.
Ive found a lot of the slow down is from programs starting up and starting in the ram most I found from htc :/ I've used root and a auto memory manger (one that uses the system, not an app killer) and now my phone runs great next step is full root and a custom rom to fully cut out the bloat : D

Have you people who are suffering from performance problems installed the OTA update? It was supposed to fix some performance issues IIRC. My DHD is blazingly fast and i have around 100 apps installed. I run SystemPanel too and haven't seen any high cpu use.

Unfortunately I have to agree as well. Lags the whole time, ages to load the picture gallery with about 200 photos. But the worst thing, it is not supporting ActiveSync with Exchange 2010, for me incredible! I feel like on HD2 at the beginning, great hardware but bad software. On DHD I was sure that the software must be better but it is disappointing. I never had such lags on the HD2 even with the worst ROMs. I am also a bit diasappointed from the home screen. On HD2 with Co0kie home tab I had a lot of more information as I have now. The Market, for me the biggest improvement, is not really working since the begining, needs 20 retry to download a 1 MB app. I am sure HTC will fix most of the software problems but currently it is disappointing.

it is a shame that in the end i have to get rid of HTC software.i know some may not agree with me but i like HTC's software.i loved what they did since i had my old Touch Pro.Manila made that phone different from others that time and ever since i was buying HTC phones for their innovative approach.i cannot believe they screwed up so much this time.but i've seen them fixing their mistakes before so i still have hope.

I meant "out of the box" I'm asking because you seem to point to the HTC software as the culprit for your lag problems, but it is not so clear to me why you come to this conclusion. I also use CPU monitoring aps, and my CPU load is mostly 0%. So how do you know it's not another app? Did you do a reboot? what happened after that.
I know it is not needed to run a Task killer, but it could be the reason for your lag, that's why I asked.
Maybe it needs gingerbread
Having said that, there is already report gingerbread will be out (on at least one handset) on 8th Nov. I m not convinced HTC will update DHD to Gingerbread for at least a few month given their track record with the past model. There will probably be only 1 update for the life time of DHD.
Is launcher pro a valid alternative to the sense? I mean will use more power and drain my battery faster? To use the memory manager should you get root? With Paul's visionary?
I am not giving up on sense just yet but I would like to know if there are alternatives...

well i noticed this after a few first hours of using DHD.that was before and after i added 3rd party software.the main reasons why i think that the cause of this lag is HTC software are...
-after a while of using Navigation app phone started to lag
-if i add navigation widget and then i navigate to that page on the home screen there is almost instant lag.
-it is not only Navigation app but some others too.like friend stream, htc peep etc.this apps worked fine on old Desire.i was using them on daily basis so i am sure.
-almost every other non HTC app i use runs smooth.
-when i sync my Gmail only,it is just fine.but if i use HTC sync all widget it is just painfully slow and it is slowing down the whole phone.
can you please recommend me an CPU monitor app you are using?so i can check my DHD with it.

SystemPanel works fine for me and usually shows < 10% cpu. Maybe you have something installed that's not fully compatible with the new Sense that is causing the problem? It seems there is a genuine problem here with quite a few people reporting it. The difficult bit is working out what it is of course since it's not affecting everyone.

Try OSmonitor, in settings you can set it to show processes according to CPU load etc. I also use that app for looking at differnt logs eg. battery logs.
Perhaps you can also try SeePU for showing CPU and RAM usage in your notification bar! I like that I can see what's going on!
I'm trying to replicate yor problems using Navigation and Friendstream, but it doesn't slow down. You didn't install the youtube update by any chance?
Might seem like a silly question, but i figure i can get more concrete answers if i ask the question as directly as possible:
Is there anything that a droided HD2 can't do that a native android phone can? Are there any glitches on a droided HD2 which may never be solved?
Thanks in advance.
only 1: ............................HD-tv out
Also the hd2s touch screen is nowhere near as good as newer android devices. It can only register 2 touches and if they are near the same axis line, they will register on the same line. Newer android phones can register 4 or more touches.

This seems to depend on the build. The SSID at my work doesn't broadcast and it works fine with some builds and not at all with others.
The touchscreen issue has nothing to do with software, it is a hardware limitation found on the Nexus One and HTC Desire. The Desire and HD2 probably have the same screen, size being the only difference. So there is no 'fix' as this is not software related.

No, the battery is nowhere as good as in winmo... you can maybe get close to the same standby time in android, but you have to shut down all unnecessary things and downclock the processor. You will have to shutdown wifi, GPS, Bluetooth, etc, while with winmo you can have similar standby time with all that on.
When actually using the phone, android can eat your battery very quickly. Battery is nowhere near as good as winmo or a native android phone during use.
But you can't expect a port to run as smooth or power efficient as a native os. The hd2 android port is a lot better than android ports for other winmo devices, except maybe the Vogue's port, which is as close to finished as they can probably get it... but it's still a port done by a small group of developers for free, so it's going to have its issues.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
well, the battery is nice, even without setcpu or similar apps.
im using android full time on my hd2 since a week now, and it eats a little bit more juice than winmo, but i guess if i would set my internet connection off, like i do it on winmo, i woudl get the same battery life... (even with playing games and stuff)
only thing i still dont like is that my hd2 gets pretty hot after a time.. but i realized that my nexus got hot aswell, just not that fast..
it seems to be normal that androids get hot Oo
rawr, hot droids >=) XD
EDIT: i forgot to say, my android lasts about 1-2days, my winmo 1-3days

unless you're running a bootlegged copy of BW, it sounds like you have something else acting up. this the third phone I have had BW on and have never had any issues with it causing any of my phones to crash. I have it on the Behold 2 I gave to my 8yr old to use like an iPod Touch, both my wife's and my MT3G-Slide's (have ran it on many different ROMs, currently CM7-RC2) and my MT4G and I have used it on just about every ROM put out for this phone and haven't had it cause a single crash.
what ROM and Kernel are you running? if you're running an O/C kernel what do you have it set at... you may have it set to high for your particular chipset.
^^^ What he said. Been using the same BW on all 5 Android phones I've owned and never had a problem. It's my favorite app.
I just can't get it to install on my Nexus S ... See this post if you have any suggestions!

So, some of you have had a few days to play with the phone and install plenty of 3rd party apps. Have you had any software issues? Any resets? I want this phone but I'm concerned about the possibility of software issues that HTC may take ages to address. I'm coming from a rock solid iPhone 4s and am a little worried over past reports of HTC phone suddenly shutting down at night (late for work hazard) or randomly rebooting.

I haven't heard anything about random reboot's, but as far as using the phone: its rock stable and continuously fast as far as I have read. I read almost every review/watched every video review about the HTC One (yes, obsessed person). As far as performance, the HTC One is the best Android phone till now. I think that coming from an iPhone, you will be satisfied with the performance. People say that no matter how many apps you have open and no matter what you are doing, there is no lag at all and the phone stays fast.
I don't own the phone yet so I hope others will be able to give you more valuable info, but I thought that this post couldn't hurt you either

Is that RockSolidStable!?
:silly:
Had it for nearly a week now and having been on android since 1.5 (HTC Magic) I can honestly say this is the fastest, most fluid phone I've had.
same here, not had one problem yet with the hardware. Only problem ive had is the santander banking app isnt compatible with the ONE :crying:
Absolutely rock solid not one single hang, crash or random reboot.
On the whole I find the device very stable after moving from my iphone 5. However unlike everyone else apparently I have had one issue. If I select productivity lock screen and select it to show my email on the lock screen (with my work exchange active in the stock mail app) then I get regular crashes of the lock screen. I.e. the lock screen goes black when I wake the phone and then reloads to the default lock screen only showing the wallpaper and weather widget. After trial and error I figured out that selecting the productivity wallpaper to not show email, but calendar, SMS and missed calls everything works normally. I don't know if it is a problem caused by my exchange server setup or Sense but I am not able to use email on the productivity lock screen. Anyone else notice this problem?
I've had it a week now, I've got about 88 apps installed and I've had no crashing apps or reboots. The battery life is also way better than my Old One X. Its buttery smooth.
Great to hear! It seems that people with some stability issues occur after an update to their phone so maybe I just need to be careful with new updates from HTC or root and install a different ROM as Android progresses. I'm sure when Key Lime Pie arrives I will be really wanting to get that on the phone ASAP.
My phone is perfectly stable. I have had no lags apart from some old apps with jerky scrolling. No crashes as of yet.

Eventually they will come out with a update that will make it randomly reboot, that's just how HTC rolls. I'm not trolling, that's just my experience with them. Regardless I'll be getting the One and just hard reset it after os updates.
