New TF OTB, won't turn on? DOA? - Eee Pad Transformer General

New TF out of the box, charged (apparently), and it will not "turn on".
Note, this is a gift for my father, so my sister is in possession of the TF.
She charged it overnight and this morning, she pushed the power button ... nothing.
She went into a dark bathroom and could see the backlight on... nothing on the screen.
Went through the following:
1. Held power button down for 20 sec - nothing
2. Held volume down + power - nothing
Questions:
1. Is there supposed to be a light indicating that the TF is charging?
2. Is there a way to "reset" the TF?
3. Could the TF be in SLEEP?
4. The AC adapter ... is this 2 pieces? does the outlet portion separate from the cable portion?
5. Is this unit DOA?

Check that the 2 parts of the AC adapter are firmly pressed together. It sounds like it wasn`t charging.

She cannot separate the two parts. Is this supposed to separate easily?
Heard reports of damaged AC adapters. True?

Just tried to separate mine and couldn`t.There is a post about chargers but i`m afraid you will have to search for it. It was related to chargers not working i think (sorry i didn`t pay much attention as mine was fine)As far as i remember there are two different serial numbers for the charger. One was ok the other dodgy.
Sorry i can`t help more,

my tablet turns on as soon as I insert the charging cable... I don't need to press the power button

She tried a different USB charger, and no go. Still acted the same.
System did not boot...just a blank screen (visible in a dark room).
Sending it back to Amazon.

I have the same issue except that the backlight won't even turn on. Quite upsetting.
did you ever find a resolution?

Make sure you hold the power button for at least 8 seconds. If the battery is charged it should turn on. If it still doesnt you probably have a charging issue. (like a bad plugin trandformer). Try another power source. You can also hold down power and then plug in power cable and see if that wakes it up.

So I've made a bit of a discovery that leads me to think the unit is defective.
When I use the method you mention I hear a clicking sound which I think I've correctly identified as the tablet turning off. Once I hold the button 2 more seconds, Windows recognizes the tablet and has installed the proper drivers so the tablet is on at least at some low level.
The screen however remains black even in a dark room (no backlight visible). I have looked but I cannot seem to find an Asus tech support number for this tablet. Also because I can not get the screen to turn on I can not activate debug mode so I cannot get into ADB.

Try Nvflash, should fix any brick. If Nvflash doesn't work it's pretty much a DOA for sure.

[Q] Please help Droid X won't turn on when pressing power buttom

I turned my DX off for a few minutes and now I am unable to turn it back on. I hold the power button and the screen remains black, no M logo no boot, no green LED light, no activity of any kind, just a black screen.
Battery was at 100% when I turned it off ( 20 minutes ago)
GB leak rooted working fine
Tried: Pulling battery, holding power and home buttons then the camera, volume down and power buttons with no response of any kind.
Please help.
Hold down both volume keys power and home key until you see a brief flash, then let go, can you get the bootloader screen to show up? Have you pulled the battery?
It did not work.
I pulled the battery and left out for a few minutes with no results.
I also remember that before this thing happened when I pulled the battery and plug in the wall charger the screen would show a battery icon with a question mark, now I got nothing but the black screen.
The only response that I have noticed when trying your tip is that without the battery when i plug in the charger the green led blinks once.
I am starting to feel that this is hardware related.
Keep the battery out. Plug in the WALL charger, not through USB. (yes, I know it's a USB cable that goes into a converter to use an electrical outlet; the point is, hook it up to an actual electrical outlet)
If you don't get the big battery indicator for charging coming on the screen, hit power once. Still not, hold power down a solid 5 seconds. If still no go, then you have a hardware problem. Also, try using a different USB cable just in case if this doesn't work.

[Q]Transformer Possibly Bricked

Hey got my transformer today but no joy, It wont even power on . I charged it via wall socket for an hour, still wont power on so I tried charging it through usb on my desktop and still no dice. I tried the button combinations listed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032374 and was able to get a reproducible click noise but no screen movement what so ever. I unplugged it once in the beginning and it made a low battery noise but have not been able to make that happen again. Any ideas?
Thanks
timinator94
P.S. Should I try this? http://tabletroms.com/forums/showthread.php?976-Nvflash-Unbricking-and-forever-root!
It couldn't hurt to try. It supposed to unbrick bricks.

Tried it. Windows does not recognize the device. Then clicking on properties it states that the device is not working. I'm guessing faulty cable. Will look for a replacement tonight.
As per the instructions charge it for 8 hours with the OEM charger and cable. Charging via the USB is pretty worthless. The charger is rated at 1.2 Amps at 15 volts. A USB port is .5 Amps at 5 volts, way less.
You need to install the Windows drivers to have ir recognized.
Sounds like a dead screen.
Does the power adapter feels hot/warm when you do your charging? Did you push in the power adapter until you hear a click sound?
@greeny2010 Yes and yes,
I will let it charge all night tonight and let you all know in the morning.
Ok I let it charge overnight and attempted to power it on. First I pressed the power button for ~10 seconds then waited ~5 seconds and pressed power again. This time the speakers made a pop noise and I heard the camera click but still no screen D:
Any other ideas? I really don't want to rma I have my final essay due Thursday and I stupidly sold my laptop to get this thinking it would get here and just work.
I read in another post where someone had a similar issue which was due to a bent pin where the transformer connects. I would inspect that carefully.

Within 30 days you can always return it, if you can find another one in stock somewhere. Otherwise RMA is your only option

Nexus one wont power back on after reassembly xpost from QA. Please advice.

Hey guys, my LCD broke, It was a AMOLED not SLCD, I bought this piece off ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/260900702599?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
I put everything back for the second time now, first of all the device doesn't come on, but when I plug the AC power it shows charging light.
I'm pretty sure my old screen is AMOLED..
I made sure all the connectors where tight on the board. any help?
It wont power on, did I break something?
I'm pretty screwed guys, been at it for like 5 hours I'm done for tonight
Here is what I've conluded. I detached the digitizer from the lcd I made a mistake and removed the factory "tape"
Is and in the process the little power button came off.
So what are my chances now?
Can the digitizer be taped back to the lcd? or Do I need to get a new digitizer which includes an LCD? so as to preserve the factory tape?
As far as the power button goes, I'm not talking about the plastic bit, I'm talking about the actual button underneath. It seemed to be holding on my a little thread anything. Is that "thread" a connector or the button functions fine without it?
I put iit back and sealed the phone up, it seems to be pressing. But of course the phone wont still come on :/
Have you tried the "jump start" method for people with broken power buttons? ie, plug the phone into the wall with the battery out and insert the battery. It might take a few insertions for it to work.

this happened to me last weekend when i replaced my trackball. my power button gave out.
That cable is a major issue with our N1s. You can order a replacement on ebay (or other sites) for usually around $40. It is called the flex cable.
The jumpstart method should work assuming nothing else is screwed up. But it isn't an exact science. Usually if you have your charging cable plugged in, you pull out the battery and put it back in, the phone will vibrate after a few seconds and start booting. If it doesn't, pull the battery out and try again.

[Q] Nexus 7 Overheating when plugged and not turnining on

Hello, I have a 16gb, bought from google Nexus 7, and three days ago I was using it, 55% of battery, connected to car charger when I put it to sleep and let it charge, after a couple of minutes I picked it up and it wouldn't turn on. I noticed that the screen was on, but black, and nothing that I did would make it back on or off.
After an hour or so it was off, to never turn on again... Already tried holding power, power + down, power + up + down for 30 seconds, 1 minute...
Let it charge overnight, it only heat up very much, but no signs of life...
Any help?
I bought it in the USA and now I'm on Brazil and have no warranty...

I'm not electrical engineer, but it sounds like your charger did something to mess it up. If I was in your position I would probably disassemble mine and, while I don't know if this is possible, disconnect the battery, and plug in the USB to the charger that you got when your Nexus. Whether this will permit your device to boot, and allow you to determine whether the battery is fried is unknown to me, maybe someone else who has more hardware hacking knowledge could give some input here. Found this link, might be helpful.

Yes, it is possible to remove the battery, but I'm having trouble removing it... It seems that it's glued to the chassis... When I plug it to charge I can hear a very discrete humming noise... it's normal?
No other help?
Asus put a protector in the software, any time this happens hold the power button down for exactly 30 then it should boot up.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
already tried ;/
There is a bit of a difference between a standard AC charger and a DC charger. The biggest issue with car chargers is that you cant always regulate the voltage. Its not uncommon to have surges when things requiring electrical. I have heard (and seen) that Asus devices are particularly sensetive to this. I had an Asus Transformer Infinity that failed to boot ever again after "incorrectly" charging the device (that was Asus' words, not mine).
Tried a good battery... no show

Stupid stupid mistake!

I think I have fried my Nexus 7.... didn't even think about what I did how stupid am I....
I decided to wire up a Hella connector to a USB cable the idea being to plug it into my phone for charging on the road... I then had a not so smart idea to use my OTG cable to connect the USB A connector to my Nexus 7 to see if it worked...
Nexus 7 booted past the bootloader and then nothing.... I realised then how stupid I had just been...and still nothing...
Presumably I've run a shed load of power down one of the data line..... what a fool.....
ARGH!!!!!!! anything I can possibly do to salvage it.... please!! :crying::crying::crying:
you could try something ASUS support told me, press all buttons (volume + & -, power) for 30 seconds, and if it won't boot after that, you should get a RMA

Going the RMA route would be costly. If it is dead, he'd be better off just bring a new N7.

Thanks for the suggestion but no it hasn't worked...
I've had the N7 plugged into the charger for the last 30 minutes or so and when I went back to it the screen backlight was on slightly (you can see if you look at the screen from the side)... but the whole unit was really really hot... I've obviously disconnected it but now can't get the thing to turn off, if I hold down the power button the screen flicks off but then back on.

I would think that "broken displayā€¯ units on eBay/CL probably have working mobos and batteries, as the owners are trying to dump them because of the broken screen. But, buying used is a crap shoot.
Nice that Google is selling N7s at cost (or even a loss) - but it does mean that any oem component replacements will be a significant fraction of the original price.
I was reading in Play Books when my N7 shut down due to low battery. I plugged it in and it wouldn't charge or boot and I noticed a faint light bleed and faint dots streaming from right to left on the display. I tried things like holding the power button for 30 seconds to reset, holding vol down and power to try to get to recovery, but it wouldn't take. Finally, with it plugged in, I held down the power button for just about 10 seconds and backlight and dots stopped. A few seconds later without pressing anything, it booted up. It would start to charge, but if the screen timed out, I was back to the earlier state and it wouldn't come on. So I got it started again and immediately went to developer options and checked Stay Awake while plugged in. Eventually the charge built up and I'm back to normal, at least my N7 is normal. I only mention this because the OP talked about the faint backlight and it may be worth trying.

A standard hella charger outputs 5V at 2A which is the same as your N7 original wall charger.
I doubt your problem came from the charger, it might be softbrick at an unfortunately moment.
I came across a similar problem when i was editing a custom kernel.
If you tried every method to shut down the device and failed do the following:
1. Open the case (it's quite easy to open with a plastic card)
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+Nexus+7+Battery/9895/1
2. Unplug the battery and hold the power button 30 seconds (with the battery detached)
3. Let it soak for 10 minutes
4. Reconnect the battery and close the lid.
5. Put your nexus 7 in the wall charger, and you should see the battery bar on the screen.
After that, let it charge a few minutes and boot the device.
