[Q] Is my phone sim unlocked? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hello everyone. I recently moved overseas and I'm new to the GSM market. I purchased a HTC Magic from a friend who says that it's SIM Unlocked. I've been using it in Italy (where I currently am now) with no problems, but soon I will be moving to Turkey. I would really like to know if there is some way to tell if the phone is unlocked before I go to Turkey to make sure I don't have any downtime. If I go to Wireless & Networks/Mobile Networks/Network operators, I can see other local networks, but can't select them because I'm assuming the SIM I have will only work with one provider.
I've done some searching, but didn't see any answers for the Magic specifically.
Anyways, is there anyway to tell if this phone is unlocked?
Thanks in advance.

Put in a sim from a different provider (borrow from a friend?) And if it works then it's unlocked

Do you have a working SIM card from AT&T or T-Mobile in the SIM slot?

Call VZW and ask.
On ebay it's a ton of services about whitestone unlock, and my problem was an issue on the operating band of GSM for example in the USA you must use 950/1900 on other countries like Costa Rica you need 1800, thanks to all for your help
You should be able to contact VZW and have them unlock it so you can use whatever carrier SIM you have for the country/area you are in. The stock SIM is Vodaphone and I think will only work where Vodaphone service exists. Otherwise make sure the phone is in Global and not CDMA only. Go to the Settings Tab, click Menu then select Phone Network Mode select Network tab.
I called verizon and they gave me codes to unlock both my phones. I slapped an ATT sim into my imagio and it was working on the ATT network, no problem at all.
Hi, where do you enter the sim unlock code on Imagio?
Thanks.

I just got off the phone with Verizon in regard to this.
Below is what I found. The Global Verizon Rep will be happier if you enter the code while you are on the phone with them; they want to verify that it works. It actually took about 10 minutes.
Here is what I found: http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/htc-imagio/138569-how-unlock-verizon-imagio-sim-card.html
If you are going to be traveling abroad or simply want your Imagio to be unlocked its very easy to do and should only take about 3-5 minutes on the phone with Verizon.
Call 1(800)-711-8300 from a different phone, enter your Verizon phone number, then select option 2.
Tell them that you will be traveling abroad and plan to just buy a pre-paid SIM card when you get there, and that you simply need the unlock code for your phone. They will check your account standings, and then give you an 8 digit code.
You need to enter the code in the security section of your phone.
With TF3D...
Start>Settings> All Settings> Personal> Security
Without TF3D Enabled...
Start> Settings> Personal> Security
One you do this, soft reset your phone and you are all done. I can take my work phones SIM card (AT&T), put it in my Imagio, and use my Imagio for work now. I did not test the data yet because I do not have data on my AT&T plan. Although if anyone does this and wants to check it, keep in mind you will have to change the number for the data line. both Sprint and Verizon use #777. I am not sure what AT&T or TMobile use.
I have an Imagio from VERIZON.
I had unlocked the GSM network, Should I Unlock the CDMA network as well if I want to use the CDMA Net work?
or I jus need 1 unlock code for both GSM and CDMA?
So, I will have 2 no. in 1 phone one is injected, and another one is using sim card.

How do I know if my HTC is locked (simlocked) or not without another Sim?

Hi,
I've bought a HTC Magic from Rogers. From the internet, it seems that some ppl were saying Rogers did not lock any smartphone, but most said it does.
I've tested with my wife's Fido Pay-As-You-Go SIM card, it seems to work. So either my phone is unlocked or Rogers and that Fido prepaid card are sharing the same lock-code.
Anyhow, without any other tools, how can I tell/test if my phone is simlocked or not?
Thanks,
Gary
The Rogers phones are locked. Fido, PetroCan Mobility and Speak Out are all virtual network operators that run on the Rogers network so their SIM's will work in a locked Rogers phone.
You need a non-Rogers SIM (like from a new Bell or Telus phone) or a US or European SIM. As soon as you pop it in it will tell you your locked and will ask you for the unlock code.
Phone won't run home screen but instead will ask for "unlock code".
And unless you give it you can't use the phone for anything (you can't even check any menu, settings or anything).

[Q] G2 on O2 UK

Hi
I would be very grateful for some help.
I have just received an unlocked US G2 (not a UK desire Z).
I live in the UK and was previously using an iphone 4 on contract with O2. When I insert my sim card and turn on the phone I get no network service.
I was under the impression that the american version should work in the UK. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Nick
Are you sure it's unlocked? I use an American G2 on T-Mobile UK and it works perfectly. But I unlocked it myself after importing it.
Check to see if its been set to 3G / HSDPA only... O2's 3G network isn't the most expansive..
Its in settings / wireless / mobile network / network mode..
It should show "GSM / WCDMA auto"
Craig
I reckon try the gfree root, s-off, super cid from the Development forum.
Thank you for the quick replies
The phone was advertised as unlocked however this may not be the case. On the G1 when I inserted the same sim into a locked unit a message appeared on screen informing me that the phone was locked. This did not happen with the G2 - it simply has no network service.
Is there a simple way for me to check the locked/ unlocked status?
Nick
Weren't there issues with unlock codes? Me thinks so.... I'll have a search.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835673
.... So use Gfree Root & Super CID!?!
.... So use Gfree Root & Super CID!?!
This worked - phone was obviously not unlocked
Thanks!

European Samsung S5 doesn't want to connect in Canada to Wind Mobile

Hi guys,
I am Italian and I bought an S5 (SM-G900F - international) when I went back in Italy for vacations and I've used the phone for a week there with my italian sim card. Now I am back to Canada. I put my canadian sim card but it doesn't want to find "Wind Mobile" I am in roaming with "Wind away" when I go to select a network provider I can see "BELL", "TELUS" but nothing about "Wind Mobile".
When I bought the phone a samsung representative told me I could have used to phone worldwide. So now I do not understand what the issue is. I do not think it is sim unlocked cause in Italy they do not do that. In addition I do not see any place to put a code to unlock the sim so... I was wondering if there is a region lock and how to solve the problem. Thanks
