its quite sad actually, considering that the LE SGT 10.1 Google I/O already has gotten the official update...
:|
Yeah, if we get it.
What's the reason that we wouldn't be eligible for the current update. My 10.1v device looks pretty stock, but I've noticed other people talking about having access to samsung app store which my tablet definately doesnt have. I thought the software was basicly the same on the devices.
Can anyone explain the actual differences that result in the 10.1v not being able to get this recent update.

the other thing to keep in mind is that the 10.1v is a 3g version while the 10.1 is a wifi. once the 3g slim 10.1 is released we may see the 3.1 update. lets hope its soon

What I care more about is, when will we get the source code for the device kernels. So that we can actually change the CPU speed and make a blazing fast device out of this damn thing.
I called a few days ago Samsung support Benelux (Belgium Netherlands Luxembourg).

yes but samsung provides the updates. vodafone only test and approves it.
Indeed it's not easy to get an answer. Vodafone refers to Samsung and they refer to Vodafone.
Like I said someone from Samsung Benelux support told me "this summer". This can also mean september. We will see, but don't count on getting it before august. Thats my feeling.

Samsung UK We know you are all eagerly awaiting the Froyo updates, and we appreciate your patience. The network testing of the Galaxy S Froyo upgrade is proceeding according to the schedule we released last week (we expect all UK customers to receive their upgrade by the end of November). We can confirm that the software we’re working on includes a solution to the Froyo Android Market issue which has been widely discussed.
http://www.facebook.com/roger.pitman#!/SamsungUK
Mmm, same thing on twitter.
Really not liking that 'end of Nov' part.
Just read this too, good news if they can keep to their word. Makes sense that they pulled it after the initial release to sort out the market issue, doesn't say about any other problems people have experienced but I guess they just want to get this out now and then tweak it more if necessary later.
We know the final build is done as they have released the japanese version with 2.2, so it must be about upgrading thats causing the problem. Just like people on here have said once they did a clean install it works pretty well, so they must want to make sure its ok when moving from eclair to froyo
End of november? Gasp
The nicest thing is, that market problem is not even related to the phone itself. My mate, who has a desire has the exact same problem with the market "download unsuccessful" problem....if this is what they are talking about...

I think it is the problem where the Market does not show up in app drawer or on screen after update.
They replied to the fb thread with
'Samsung UK Hi Davinder and Darren. We're releasing Froyo from the beginning of November and we're expecting all networks to have it by the end of November.'
November 8 samsung is releasing a 2.3 device and they will take till november end to release a froyo update wtf is wrong with samsung......

According to Android Central: http://www.androidcentral.com/european-galaxy-s-gingerbread-update-coming-end-march
Link to Samsung Romania post: http://www.facebook.com/SamsungMobileRomania/posts/189412624430604
A post on Samsung Mobile Romania's Facebook page seems to suggest that Romanian Galaxy S phones (and presumably other European models) may see an official update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread by the end of March.
Translated into English and cleaned up a little, the post reads:
"The update to version 2.2.1 for Galaxy S will be available until 20 March, and Gingerbread (2.3) until the end of the month."
Our Romanian is a little rusty, but we think it's safe to assume the last part of that statement means either "it'll arrive by the end of the month", or "it won't arrive until the end of the month". Either way, it looks like the European Galaxy S could soon claim bragging rights as the first non-Nexus phone to get an official Gingerbread update. HTC has announced that Gingerbread will be coming to some of its older phones, but these updates aren't due until sometime in the second quarter.
Samsung Romania also adds that two of its budget phones, the i5500 Galaxy 5 and i5800 Galaxy 3, will be updated to Froyo by Mar. 20 and Mar. 31 respectively. [Samsung Romania Facebook via Crave]

God, getting Gingerbread on the Vibrant would be AMAZING. It would increase the speed, and once the source is released, we would see some awesome gingerbread ROM's for it.

Hopefully somebody will be able to port it quickly if T-Mobile foes not roll out the rom in the same timeframe...

Samsung Sweden promises Android 2.3 update in mid-April for unlocked Galaxy S, mid-May for operator-specific Galaxy S
UPDATE: Samsung Finland will release the Android 2.3 update in mid-April.
Swedish Samsung subsidiary has confirmed that the much awaited Android 2.3 update for Galaxy S is expected soon. The Gingerbread firmware is in final stages of testing and unlocked Galaxy S users can expect the update sometime in mid-April.
For Galaxy S locked to operators, the update is expected in mid-May.
Samsung will release the update via Kies.

FYI, it's on Norway's site also. This implies that Nordic users will be first to get GB - like with JS8 - but we know that Samsung procrastinates with firmware releases. We just sit back and wait.

Great so Bell should be coming out with their 2.3 in about July or August then. I wonder WTF they are doing with these things in there.
Okay, the german support just replied - no specific date given, quote: "Yet, we don't have any specific information about the release date of Android 2.3". Or in german: "Wir haben noch keine genaueren Informationen über den Erscheinungstermin von Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)."

Issue No. 16992 in the Android Open Source Project has to do with Exchange support on the Xoom after the Android 3.1 update -- namely how it's not working.

"There should be a 3.2 update coming within days, and that should help those of you with the Xoom."

You are not alone. I take pleasure in knowing that none of my money will be spent on Motorola products again. I am happy that the margin of error on their part is so blatantly large that there will be tons of people who walk away from this experiance unwilling to ever buy a product from Motorola again on principle.
I like common sense of it all.

I thought I learnt my lesson with the Moto Atrix, but no, I had to go and get the MZ601 (EU) tab on Optus and its still sitting on 3.0 - probably never to see the light of 3.1 or 3.2...
Motorola really need to get their Fcuking asses into gear and demand carriers release FW on time and within a set period of the SDK being available.... Until they do this, they'll never be a top 3 manufacturer ever
From what I just read on the Moto forum, it seems the firmware approval process goes :
Carrier -> Moto -> Google
I honestly think it's Google holding up the approval process and moto is getting kicked in the teeth for it, same way they did with microSD.
I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

i can't imagine they will think twice about non us updates. If they ignored us for 3.1 then 3.2 will probably be the same. I dont really understand this but how can they ignor the rest of the world ??
The US is the larger market, also Motorola is a American company.
Just like Japanese companys release updates and products in Japan before anywhere else.
did you see the pie chart for android versions?
3.1 has 0.5% and 3.0 had 0.4% or something
'most' people have 3.1 now - so maybe they just imagine that most people have a US Xoom (or one of the other many models that have the 3.1 updates..)
Moto might think they are catering for a minority?
i thought it was interesting most 3.x were 3.1 though
You know that our wonderful developers will be making it possible for all of us to get the latest updates ASAP.

Well, just wanted to share some information that fell on my lap with you guys.
I got in contact with Samsung Chile via Twitter here in South America, and I asked about the Gingerbread update for the Galaxy Tab Wi-Fi. They replied saying:
"@Samsung_Chile: Estamos trabajando en el update, debiera estar en 2 meses más. Para videochat puedes ocupar Skype o Quick Saludos!"
Click to collapse
It basically translates to: "We are working on the update, and it should be available in another 2 months. For video chat, you can use Skype or Qik."
Well, considering this came from the OFFICIAL Samsung Chile Twitter account, there is some credit attached to it. But then again, the same person didn't know that Skype is a) not supporting video chat for ANY Tab officially and b) that Skype needs 2.3.4 to work for video as far as I know.
So take that as you will. The word comes from the official Samsung Twitter account, so that counts for something. But I think a grain of salt needs to be applied in this case.
Just sharing the news with you guys! Hope this answers some questions for the rest of us Wi-Fi owners.

I'm guessing it'll also be in 2 months then. I mean, why not? If they are rolling out the update for the P1010L in 2 months here, it stands to reason that they'll give the P1000L the same treatment... after all, it is the more popular model, I think.

I have the GT-P1010 and hope it applies to mine as well. I've been holding out as I didn't want to accidentally brick mine trying to root it so this is wonderful news! I wasn't sure they would do it cos I heard the P1010 model has inferior parts which make the ginge update impossible. A sliver of hope is definitely better than none and I'm content to wait 2-3 months for the update to happen...if it does.
Thanks for sharing the news!
Yesterday I recived a response from Samsung Mexico about when and if there will it be an update, the response was this:
Disculpe el inconveniente Sr. Rodríguez, aún no contamos con un tiempo
estimado en el cúal estará disponible la actualiación Android 2.3 en
México.

It translates to something like this:
We apologize for the inconvenience Mr. Rodriguez, still do not have a time
estimate in which will be available an Android 2.3 update in Mexico.
Maybe the employe does not know that there is no update at the moment or there is really an update in the works... only time will tell.
I almost forgot, My galaxy is an P1010 model no TV tunner.

You never know, it could be that the Mexican branch has no idea of what they are talking about, or it could be the Chilean branch that is mistaken. There's no way to know, really. I just hope it'll happen because it'd be terrible if it didn't. Froyo is alright and all, but it doesn't hold a candle to Gingerbread.
And with no Dev scene for the P1010, we are sh*t out of luck in trying to get GB on our own...
just so you guys know, you can get Skype working on the P1010 using the modified APK in the android software development forum from user "droidrx". it works on my GF's fine, except that while you must hold it in landscape mode, the camera feed that the other party sees is rotated 90 degrees.
Also, unless the app has changed, only the back camera works so no real face-to-face
I got a tweet back from @samsungsupport on the question of GB on the P1010. They claim that "we (samsung) are not permitted to speculate. Stay tuned!"
Now you could argue that they are hinting that it may happen and to stay tuned for updates. I personally dont think it will happen but they have been slightly ambiguous.
I wish they would though, i need something to play around with on my Tab!

Wow this is awesome news indeed! Hopefully all the p1010 users will experience some love ;-)

If Samsung upgrades this badboy to 2.3 I will change my outlook on their post product support. Thanks for sharing, I'll certainly be watching this one.
