[Q] 2.3.3 OTA Rooted problem... - EVO 4G General

Hey I would have posted this on a different thread but i cant because i just made this account they want atleast 10 posts...
heres the deal... i have a rooted evo and running cm7 which i like, but i was dropping calls and where i live i should have good service. so i got the updated radio/wifi/ ect package and flashed it... it installed but did not help with the call issue... i heard many other having the same problem.
so i flashed the ota root update... which seemed like it did it really fast (wasnt watching the whole time) and the phone rebooted but gets stuck at the white htc evo screen, i let it sit there for 20 mins nothing, so right now i am recovering my old cm7... just wondering if anyone has that same problem or can help with getting better voice reception on cm7.. like i said i have tried the package for radio ect... and my prl was updated before i flashed to stable of cm7 so that should be in good standing i would imagine... thanks..

The obvious first question is, did you do a full and complete wipe of everything before you flashed the ROM?
As far as your signal, it may have been just in my area, but I know a few people that had problems texting and making calls, getting a "Network Is busy" error.

yea i did the wipe data/cache i wasnt dropping calls before the cm7 so im not sure right now im shootin to myns seeing how that is... cm7 was first flash i did
well as im trying to flash to the myns its looking like the samething... ill go through the steps...
have zip file in root of sd card
open up rom manager, have the newest clockwork thing installed
i goto flash from sd wipe data and cache are checked... i already have a backup so i skip that part
it installs.... says install is done and reboots itself... but seems to stay on that white bootscreen
if i take the battery out then i can reboot with recovery from the save file i have

blah i dont know... i got the ota installed... looked like it got a bit better reception.. i updated prl and came back to cm7 same probs... i dunno maybe ill just have to let go of cm7... really dont want to though its so sexy lol

I had the same weak signal issue with cm7 and had dropped calls and data dropping to 1x. I am on stock rooted 2.3.3 and reception is good again. Liked cm7 but need a phone I can use in the boonies.

Dude, please, don't use ROM Manger.
Just boot to recovery, hopefully, you have Amon Ra, if not, search how to get it on your phone, it's not hard, do a FULL WIPE, full, wipe everything in recovery, then flash the ROM in recovery.
No offense to the Dev, I know he's a great guy, a smart guy, hard worker that makes a contribution, but Rom Manager is not the best way to do this.

Yea had to do it manually but nymph works now liking it so far

ok now i have different problem.... got the myn working liking it, but my market is completely different, not just the theme, but the apps i usually download... so tried to flash new market but it just open/closes quickly... any ideas for that?

Not sure by what you mean by the apps you usually d/l.
One thing about the Market in these newer ROMS is that sometimes, you just need to give it some time to fully sync before all your apps so up...
You should pull the market out of the zip file for the ROM and re-install that one, but you'll have to delete the one you have installed now, first.

umm usually download ninjump cant find that just some games that are usually on my phone the market on cm7 had them... ill give it a try though

look on the android market website

[Q] Help with flashing ROM

Hey guys, new to rooting and mods on phones. i have a samsung fascinate that i rooted on saturday. installed rom manager, root explorer, clockwork and ti backup. the problem i am having is that when i attempt to flash the super clean rom from jt1134, by using the rom manager. it keeps giving me a few different error messages. on is E: failed to verify whole-file signature and E:Signature verification Failed. Through my research i tried dl'ing the zip form to the sd card, and similar messages came up. please help. Thanks
Can I make a recommendation? Dont instal any roms as of now. None are true custom roms. All still have the touchwiz running. None of the roms run bug free and all see Force Close errors!!
Your better off...just rooting, Install lagfix from market, and use launcherpro.
Ive tried the custom roms and honestly not worth it till froyo comes.
stupid question but what exactly does lagfix do?
Ok ive noticed it fixes how slow the market reacts when opened, also speeds up when page loads somewhat.....if you use the LagFix in the market it has a option in the app to remove it if you dont like it , but im sure you will. Stay away from Voodoo LagFix it can be tricky.
Download oclf from market
give it root access
choose to install EXT2 Tools
Then go back and install Lag Fix V1+
This is the only lag fix i know of that be removed by the app itself no outside programs.
Trust me the roms that are out you wont notice anything special from them. all they do is remove apps!!! Wait till cyanogen releases his rom for Fascinate. He makes the best Roms period!!! And he just made a beta for the galaxy lineup....but the fascinate will not see any true roms untill froyo is released!!!
whats the eta on froyo? seems like it keeps getting pushed back.
the cyanogen rom was the entire reason i wanted to test it on the fascinate(i didn't know it wasn't available yet). i had a buddy with it and it seemed to be a super powerful rom.
thanks for all the info martyotaku
From the looks of it.... not till January! Was supposed to be this month. Who knows might still happen.
Honestly if I'm you if your in your 30 days return it and wait for something else. Samsung is known for horrible support.
It sounds like you haven't actually installed CWM... Did you just try to flash it via ROM Manager? Because that won't work. You actually have to flash it using Odin. Once you have CWM successfully installed, you can flash ROMS, kernals, etc...
And I would stay away from the OCLF. A lot of people have been having problems with it, just like VooDoo. Once I uninstalled it, I noticed significant battery life increase. All the lag fix really does is artificially inflate quadrant scores, which don't really count for much anyways.
I've been running JT's Super Clean ROM and I can easily go 48 hours without a charge... No where near that on the stock ROM
just bought cwm from the market and installed.
which i didnt do before. i assumed when i dl rom manager and did that recovery it was already installed.
went to see how super clean acted and tried to redo the flash. still gave me the same two error messages.
Again, you have to flash CWM through Odin, you can't just install it and it magically work
gotcha. ill research how to use the odin ect.... thanks kevin
No problem!
Here's the thread on how to do it
And I cannot stress this enough...
NEVER, EVER, EVER USE THE "PHONE" BUTTON IN ODIN!!!
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS USE THE "PDA" BUTTON.
You will have an expensive paper weight if you use the "phone" button.
Don't do it.
Well if that happens... I'm going straight to verizon and opsse sorry I dropped it in a lake... Haha
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
figured odin out... got it installed and did a back up... completely different process.. looks like it has worked. phone is rebooting right now. and ... its stuck on vz symbol for a few min... bammm...very nice!! recommendations from here... sweet themes maybe???
Cant wait to see how it goes from here on out... Thanks so MUCH Kevin. is there any way to give props on this website?
Not that I know of, other than the way you just did!
Glad you got it working.
I'm using JT's Super Clean ROM from ROM Manager with the Dark Gloss theme
i so far like the set up of revolutions v3 w/ circle battery. here in a few i am going to switch to dark gloss mod w/ slide animations...

Can't load custom roms anymore

I hope that this isn't a repost, I've searched quite a bit but nothing is exactly like what i'm experiencing.
Here's what happened, i'll try and make this short and to the point.
Got my new evo, rooted it using unrevoked 3 and got root access.
Loaded a few custom roms, no problem, finally settled on Calkulin's EViO rom. Everything was working great, 4G was perfect, blah blah blah, buddy with an evo told me that Cyanogen was the poo and that I had to flash to that as it was the best ever.
I download Cyanogen 6.1.2 from cyanogen's forum and proceeded to flash it to my phone after doing a nand backup on my current rom. I forgot to back up my RSA keys (didn't even know i had to in the first place) and after cyanogen loaded, I read the thread that states that flashing cyanogen make screw up your wimp key and that you should backup your RSA keys (crap!) before loading cyanogen. Well after reading this and freaking out, I went back into recovery, wiped everything, and loaded the recovery img of the last rom I was running on my evo.
Now my 4G doesn't work in calkulin (posted a thread about that a couple days ago), and I'm not able to load any rooms except for backups, a fresh copy of calkulin, and a fresh copy of cyanogen 6.1.2.
When i try to load a new rom (warm 2.2 for example), it'll load, but when i go and reboot, it'll sit at the white HTC EVO screen forever .. nothing will change until I pull the battery out and start the phone back into recovery. I can reload one of my old backup images and everything works fine again.
I've cleared all the memory, delvik cache, everything. I even formatted my SD card after backing it up and loading just the roms on there. that didn't help either.
Any help would be fantastic .. I'm completely floored as to why I can't load anymore rooms.
Also, i want my wimax back!
wow.. sorry.. i hope someone can help you.
but I would think, you have to call sprint. they may have the wimax info for your phone.. and how to put it back.
for my knownledge... how do you get the information RSA keys and wimax info.. so I can backup mine?
Here's how to backup your RSA keys

And issue is resolved.
amon recover > clockwork

thanks..
that is great you got it done.
I dont use clockwork.

Glad you got it working bro. Just for everyone that is new who may read this thread Cyanogen DOES NOT break your 4G keys. Older versions of Clockworkmod Recovery will. Follow the how to backup your RSA keys before doing Anything with the EVO.
Just because 4G is not yet included in Cyanogen Rom's does not mean it breaks your 4g. In fact, thanks to some of our dedicated and smart devs there is an actual Alpha of CM 6.1.2 with 4g and from what I hear it works pretty damn good.
Anyway I just wanted to clear that up because I would not want anyone to think that CM Rom's break your 4G. I am sure the OP meant Clockworkmod Recovery, but said CM in a rush to try to figure out his problem.

thanks for clearing that up .. I'm not sure exactly what I read as I glanced over it and freaked out because I didn't want to ruin my wimax keys .. so thanks for the clarification.
I've been trying to install the 6.1.2 with wimax but I keep getting hung up on the white evo screen, as well as others .. I'm tempted to install CM7 and forget about 4G for the time being as I know toast will get it up and running in the upcoming months.
Hopefully someone can figure out the reason as to why the wimax alpha is hanging at the htc evo screen after installing the kernal.

Endless Rebooting, about to smash phone to bits

Alright, this issue has seriously driven me insane over the last few days, and today it's gotten to the point where I'm going to do something I'll regret if somebody can't help me out. As you can tell, I'm pretty desperate.
Using Fresh 3.5.0.1, I've encountered more reboots than I can count. Whether it's checking an email or playing Asphalt, the phone frequently decides it doesn't want to cooperate and restarts itself. I decided to try to get rid of the reboots for good today with a complete wipe and new rom.
First, I made a nandroid backup, followed by a data/system wipe and cache/dalvik cache wipe. Afterward, I flashed the ZenDroid 1.1.0 kernel in case that was the issue. I then proceeded to flash CyanogenMod 7 RC1 with gapps.
That worked for all of three minutes, and then it got even worse. The phone started restarted itself when I wasn't even doing anything, up to the point where it would restart on the CM7 boot animation. I took my rage out on a nearby pillow and decided to try something else.
I downloaded the final release MIUI rom and used Calkulin's format all to wipe my phone as instructed. This time around I flashed Savage-Kernel 1.6 along with MIUI. Lo and behold, after rebooting I was finally able to swipe through the home screens again.
And then I wasn't. It started rebooting on the boot animation again. At the moment it's even worse, rebooting three seconds into the damned splash screen. I've tried keeping the battery pulled for half an hour with the HTC battery and two after market batteries. I wiped the ext partition on the micro sd card. I even physically removed the card itself. This effing phone is still rebooting on the splash screen.
I'm at the end of my wits. All I want is for my Evo to WORK, without any constant reboots or force closes that make it utterly unusable outside. If anyone could help me out with this issue, I'd be extraordinarily grateful.

hmm...
i don't know what kernel fresh comes with, but both of the other kernels are more aggressive ones, and i would guess your phone doesn't like them. i would try this:
Wipe twice using calk, wipe again using recovery, flash mikfroyo or stock rooted (stock kernel). If you still get reboots... unroot and take your phone back in because its a hardware problem.
I had this problem. Drove me insane. Ultimately just unrooted and got a new one from sprint. Not one reboot since I got the new one.

Well I'm still super new to the whole flashing of the ROM's. But from what you have explained the only thing I can think of is that you missed a step when you rooted your phone. Because of this that is why your phone keeps brick. You should go and check out HTC EVO Hacks (go Google it) and the guy who runs the site made a sweet video & write-up on how to root your phone. Just re-do everything and follow directions, then when your done just flash Kings Unleashed. And when you check out the HTC EVO hacks root page look for the link to the XDA root forum which has more info on how to root your HTC the proper way.

Yeah, I guess I should try the stock rooted rom. If I'm only able to use that instead of any other custom rom, though, I'm going to lose it. There's something inherently frustrating about a device refusing to work for no apparent reason.

I'm sort of hoping I won't have to do that, considering I'll likely get a refurbished unit.

I'm pretty sure that isn't the case at all. If there was an issue with the way I rooted my phone, it would have been present eight months ago when I bought it. This rebooting issue is relatively new, and it isn't bricked. I appreciate the advice, though.
It could be just a defective phone - memory isn't immortal or impervious to defects.
I'd downgrade to a Sprint ROM, and keep it stock and see how that works. You have to rule out bad hardware first, and that's the only way to do it.
I agree on all of your guys suggestions but one thing i noticed was that he said he wiped data then dalvic cache then he said he flashed the kernel then the rom. Maybe he should try and rewipe everything with calk format all then flash the rom and reboot. Then go back into recovery and flash your new kernel then reboot again and see whats up from there.
Have you tried repartitioning your SD card and formatting? I was getting random reboots on every single rom I tried, and every single kernel. Turns out my partitions somehow got messed up on my SD card and that was causing it randomly. Now I have no reboots.

Yes, I first formatted the sd card in Windows and then partitioning it on the phone's recovery. Still no luck.
Yeah... Sprint rom or if you go through with the unrooting process (I forgot how...) then you can figure out if it is hardware.
But yeah, endless reboots are frustrating.
If Sprint rom is giving you troubles, then just return it and get a new one. It's gotta be hardware then.
Also you could try running stock rooted without any downloaded market apps. Just run what came with the phone.
You can also try stock rooted eclair 2.1
Mine started the reboot bs after the december update. Mine seems to reboot when I use it heavily even though I'm not overclocked (heats up). Before the 2.2 update, it was very fussy being outside during the summer. I would like to exchange mine for another, even though I don't use it anymore. It would be nice to have a fully functioning backup. My gf's daughter wants the evo very much. Even if I would do that, which I wouldn't, I wouldn't let someone use a possibly unstable phone. If an emergency happened, and the phone started it's rebooting bs, it would be very bad to not be able to use the phone when you need it the most.
I am guessing I would have to reactivate the evo, run it for a month or so, unroot and lock it, then take it to a service center and see if I can make it start rebooting like crazy. Maybe I will get lucky and they would give me another one. I don't care too much if it is a refurb as long as it is in good shape and works good.
Try removing the SD card and booting.

rebooting
I had this same problem with my evo. Sometimes it would be ok, but then others it wouldnt stop doing it, didnt matter what I did. It could be sitting by itself and I would hear it rebooting. Drove me mad!!!
My first evo was awesome, it was a hardware ver 3. My camera lens cracked and the gave me a refurb, hardware version 2. This is when my reboots started happening.
After 3 batteries from Sprint and two more refurbs I finally blew in front of a store full of customers telling them that either give me a NEW evo, hardware version 3 like I originally had with no problems or it was going against their wall.
I havent had one problem since.
I wasnt rooted yet so cant comment along those lines but if you take it back to stock and it still does it I recommend throwing it at one of Sprints walls. No need to do any drywall patching at your place LOL.
I hope you get it resolved as I can feel your pain!
It may not be hardware. Did you restore any apps using any back up app (Titanium Backup) after flashing the AOSP roms? If so, make sure you did NOT restore any system apps or data. This is especially important when you go from Sense to AOSP.
The test is what everyone is suggesting. Flash back to Sprint rom and see what happens.
Also, you need to flash the kernel after flashing the rom, otherwise you'll just get the kernel packaged with the rom. I usually reboot and art least try the default kernel unless I know that my phone hates it.

No, I haven't even been able to get to the stage of installing any apps before the rebooting cycle starts again. I tried installing the stock Sprint rom this morning with the stock radios and kernel and it was stable for about five minutes. It's back to rebooting again, though.
Do you guys think it's time to unroot and go to the Sprint store for an exchange?

If it was me, I would take it back. I just downloaded the newest ruu and will flash it later tonight. The only thing I'm worrying about is they won't be able to reproduce the problem. I really have to be multitasking a lot and pushing the phone hard. Actually the last time it had rebooting fits was with wireless tether running. The back of the phone was warm. I put it in front of the ac vent in the car for a minute or two and that seemed to help it stop rebooting.

Well, it looks like I'll be taking it to the store after all. I just finished unrooting my phone with the RUU, so it's as if I had never touched the software. Lo and behold, the damned thing still rebooted a minute into using the phone.
I guess that in some sick way, I can consider myself more 'fortunate' than you, seeing as how my phone doesn't even need to be used in order to begin rebooting. It's ridiculous that I have to part with my Evo because of this bs.

Same thing happend with my old evo it started after i install one of the first cm safe roms not nightlies not saying tyat was the cause, i tried evverything wiping unrooting botting without sd, ive been on android sice g1 and i tried everything nothing worked, ended up going to sprint and getting another refurnished it was prolly hardware issue maybe cpu overheating or something, anyways not sure why ppl are so scared of refurnished phones i believe they do a lot more tests on those phone than retail ones lol

MIUI on my DX - And my DX experience so far.

Hey guys, I just wanted to share my experience so far. I can't post on the MIUI page because I don't have enough posts, so I'll share here for anyone interested.
For anyone wanting to try MIUI for the DX, here's my experience, some tips, and suggestions.
-Beware, installing or trying to install ANY ROM may brick your phone. although it's very rare and unlikely to be unable to find a solution to problems, it can and has happened. so take caution and read instructions and so-forth carefully.
Some history of my DX. I soft-bricked my phone back in the early months of the DX trying to deodex it to install themes. It was stuck on M logo for 2 days before i learned enough from scratch to find out what an SBF was, where to find it, and how to flash my phone back to stock. Ever since then these nice folk on XDA-developers forums and other droid forums have helped me successfully mod my phone many times, through Q&A, detailed instructions, and a little luck.
I've rooted my phone using the command method, Z4Root, and several other processes. Some were hard to figure out, some soft-bricked my phone, most were easy as pie. I'm on a Z4Root atm.
The first successful ROM I installed was GUMMY-JAR. I liked it, it was good to me. nothing like the comprehensive ROMs out now though.
Then I jumped to Liberty 1.5, Liberty x.x etc... Liberty was awesome, but was still basically Froyo with advanced options. I loved it.
Now, just today, I've installed MIUI. And let me tell you, its amazing!
For anyone running Froyo Liberty ROMs, I believe that you can install MIUI right over the top. I didn't think it was going to work, as I hadn't seen anyone mention if it did or not over the top of Liberty 1.5.
If you want to install MIUI, go here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181486
You MUST be rooted, and be running FROYO, NOT GB! You must also have the Droid X bootstrapper.
I won't give instructions, as I'm not qualified to do so. But I can tell you what I did from Liberty 1.5. MAKE SURE TO MAKE A BACKUP FIRST! 1) I downloaded the MIUI ROM from the above XDA post to my SD card on my phone. 2) I clicked 'bootstrap recovery' on the DX bootstrapper app, then 'reboot recovery.' My phone booted into clockwork recovery mode. 3) wiped data/factory reset. 4) cleared cache. 5) install from SD Card. 6) install MIUI.zip i downloaded from the link i posted above. let it run it's course. rebooted. DONE.
It's really that easy if you are running the DX stock Froyo kernal.
Keep in mind with MIUI, it does NOT auto-sync your Google account. you need to go into the options>>accounts/sync and add your Google account. You can then re-install apps from your backup or just re-download them. Make sure you've synced your contacts with your Google account so they will be there when you add your Google account.
Some thoughts on MIUI...
There is NO STOCK APP DRAWER. I recommend ADW launcher or Launcher PRO. The MIUI launcher inst bad, but it's like iOS in that there's no app drawer. It's just a bunch of screens with all your app icons like an iPhone.
You can download theme's and customize themes through settings>>personal>>theme manager. MIUI allows you to change fonts, boot animation, boot audio, lock-screen style, status bar, icons, launcher, wallpapers, text style, dialer style etc. There's tons of pre-made packages, but you can also change them all individually and create one you like best. You can do all of this directly from the settings menu including looking up new themes, downloading them, and applying them.
MIUI is running on 2.3.4 GB. So it wont say 2.2 anymore after you install. (I believe the kernal is still Froyo though? Please correct me if I am wrong)
I really hope this helps some of you newbies. I am thankful for all of you that have made posts like this that I have found useful in the past.
Note- some people are having issues installing MIUI. They are getting bootlooped on the M logo for some reason. I have no idea why this is, it worked perfectly for me first try. Just remember to follow the instructions on the ROM page, and that you are running the correct version of Android. You shouldn't get a boot-loop if you do so.
Hope this helps!
i have a question.... and this question is what will decide if i keep this or go back to liberty gingerbread....
how the hell do i flash anything.. i can't even install clockwork mod without getting bootloops.... and i'd love to flash certain apps onto this.... but if this can not be done i will have to go back.... the only thing going into recovery does is use the retarded original recovery... and that is a big deal.. if i ruin my phone on the go and need to pullup a backup i can not do this with this rom and i will end up phoneless until i can get to a computer to sbf

What exactly are you asking? "Flashing" is the process of basically overwriting your current Android OS with an Android OS SBF. If you are trying to install MIUI, you cannot do it with Gingerbread installed on your phone. "You MUST be on CyanogenMod 7 or .340 Froyo to flash this rom!" (MIUI)
If you want to install MIUI, i think the best bet would be SBF flashing to stock DX 2.2 .340 FROYO, re-rooting, then using the DX boot-strapper to boot into recovery. Then installing the MIUI .zip from SDcard in the recovery menu. Everything should work fine after that. Rmember you CANNOT go into recovery using DX boot-strapper once this ROM is installed. you CAN go into recovery with this ROM using ROM-manager. This is what I have experienced so far, and what others have said also.
no.. i already have the rom installed... i just want to be able to go into recovery without needing to be booted up.
i'm trying to install some zips through clockwork such as the old blur camera and a few other things... i will install rom manager and see how it goes from there... i love the UI of this rom but as far as being comfortable and stable.. liberty gingerbread has my vote as of now
i've cleared my cache and data several times and i get force closes alot. and this is a clean install coming straight after an SBF.
with liberty gingerbread i had the ability to set it so every phone reboot, even if a battery pull, would boot directly into clockwork mod.. making it easy for me in case i installed a zip that would get me into bootloop
Hmm, sorry mate, I dunno what to tell ya. Try looking aroudn forums or startign a new thread. someone more knowledgable than you or me will help you out.
thanks for everything though!! this really is a beautiful rom and i'd love to stick with it... i'll bite the bullet for the meantime and post around to get some help... i'd love to post in the developer section but i don't have enough posts yet.. haha

You need to install Rom Manager, and select flash Clockwork Recovery. Make sure you select Droid X (2nd Init). Then you can reboot into recovery with Rom Manager :-D

but the problem is that i would like to be able to go into recovery without having to do it through an app... i'd like to make it so every reboot (including battery pull) makes it boot into recovery. thats how i had liberty gingerbread doing it... if not.. i can live with it.. i'll just be a little more careful on what i'm installing
Just wanted to chime in about MIUI rom, I just flashed it yesterday and am ABSOLUTELY loving it thus far. I had no trouble at all installing the rom what-so-ever. I used ROM Manager to do the whole thing: downloaded newest ver. of MIUI, backup current ROM, wipe data and dalvik. Let it run its course and it rebooted and was up and running in no time flat!

can flash to miui or restore to stock htc root but .....

This is my first post in XDA.I hope this is the right spot for this questions.
I have searched everywhere for the answers to this question before posting. I flashed to CM7 with the tiamat kernel awhile back. I love CM7 but was curious to see what other rom developers are doing.
I ALWAYS do a back up before doing any flashes. I backed up my CM7 and my base rooted HTC downgraded 2.2 through RM. I was able to flash to synergy with no problems and restore to CM7. I decided to check out MIUI over the weekend. I flashed it with no problem. Last night I wanted to try mikshifted-g and Supreme Sense . I could not install either of them . The both stalled once CWM started to install. It was stuck on updating. There were no errors. I took the battery out and tried to restore CM7 backup through CWM. The restore went as expect but when I went to reboot it was only the HTC logo. I took the battery out and went back to MIUI through CWM and the phone booted. I then did a restore of my original rooted 2.2 the phone booted. I tried to install the above again on a fresh HTC stock rooted phone through RM and still had the same thing happen.
My question, is why I am not able to flash any other roms successfully other than restoring to MIUI and stock rooted htc 2.2 ? Installing Synergy works !
I do a full flash of system, data, cache and dalvik cache. I am not sure what I am missing.
If I understand correctly MIUI is a GB kernel as well as the others so there should not be a problem of compatibility ? I am assuming I still have root ? My HBOOT does say S off and PG 06001. I will try downloading CM7 through MIUI again to see if it works through RM. Sorry for the long post. I wanted to give as much detail as possible. Thanks in advance for any help
Richard
My suggestion would be don't use ROM Manager to flash, wipe or make nands. Do everything manually through recovery. I've seen too many people have the same type problems when using ROM manager.
what I have noticed is the progress bar in cwm doesn't work with sense roms, at least it never did in the mikshifted roms i tried and they take a LOT longer to install than cm7. How long did you let them sit at the install screen with that blank progress bar? Try clearing all your data/caches then install a sense based rom but leave your phone alone for like 10 minutes while it sits at that screen with the blank progress bar that says mikroms or whatever it says (been awhile since i used one). It shouldn't take 10 minutes but if your phone sits at that screen for that long then you know for sure it isn't working. I pulled my battery a couple times before i realized that's what was happening. I read about it somewhere online.
I have tried both RM and CWM. Both have the same results. 99% of the time I prefer the manual CWM method. Sorry I did not make it more clear.
I did re-flash CM7 with no problem. I do let the rom flash sit for a while but I will try longer since you say it takes longer with the roms in question. I let it sit for a few minutes. That seems like it should be more than enough. CM7 is pretty quick to install as well MIUI like you said. I love the layout and features of MIUI but since I am in a 4G area seems to defeat the purpose of having 4G if you can't use it. To be realistic though 4G is spotty in Atlanta and I mostly end up for 3G or using my wireless at home. I will probably end up with CM7 again since I like it equally as much as MIUI. If I wait longer for it to install and it does not work is there anything I should be looking at as the culprit other than myself
you were right, it just took a LONG time to install. I thought I was losing it. It took over 5 minutes. I am used to the install times of the MIUI and CM7 . Thanks for telling me to wait a little long. It's always the simple overlooked things like patients
My advice is just make sure you do a FULL Wipe before flashing a Rom. Like on THIS GUIDE, saves headaches later. Aslo, as you've learned Sense Roms usually take quite a bit longer than MIUI ,ASOP, or most others. But yes patience is important .
I definitely do a full wipe . I used all the guides here to make sure I did everything correct. I did not realize that the sense roms took longer than the CM or MIUI. I love the layout of MIUI. I wished it at some point 4G was going to be a part of it but I understand why it will not be .
4G in Atlanta, GA is not reliable, at least on my shift with sprint. I hate to pay for a feature that I am not able to use on regular basis. It's so spotty here I have gotten used to it.
I was never a big sense fan but it seems like if you want to have the 4G feature you use either use CM or another Sense rom right ? I got the shift because of how solid it's built and many reviews favor the EVOs or Galaxy S on Sprint
Thanks for all the feedback
Richard
Well you might want to give [AOSP ROM] S.O.A.P. ROM (sense-ish on android phones) a try. Sounds more like what your looking for. It's by one of the Shift members here.
