my stock android keyboard looked like the image on attachment,
i'm wondering, if there is a way to change the smilies button on the bottom right corner to 'enter' button?
because when i install Swype keyboard or Better Keyboard 8 from the market, it's still the same, smilies button on the bottom right, i'd prefer an 'enter' button.
Thanks.
If you have CM7 you can have the smiley button. I think SwiftKey has it as well for other ROM's.

where is it????
either "?123" or "?123" then Alt. just to the right of the middle, in the second row down
on the standard keyboard?? you press the button on the bottom left of the keyboard with the globe and the number 12 next to it.... the "-" is in the middle of the bottom row.
Thanks a lot guys.
I don't how to switch Android keyboard and standard keyboard. In fact I don't know which one i am using.
But I found the - key. I need to press "123", then double click the face-icon next to 123. There are many symbles there, I got - in the list.
Long press on the text input box and it brings up an option to select "input method".. you can choose your kbd in there...
I have a question on how to make this phone better... I've never used the iPhone really, other than to jailbreak it for my fiancee. Now that I have the Vibrant, I noticed ridiculously difficult it is to place your cursor in a particular spot. You can't use a stylus, there's no "magnifying glass" like the iPhone has, and there are no arrow buttons on the on-screen keyboard (as there was on my HTC Touch Pro 2). Basically, it'll take me 5-6 taps (or more) to get the cursor where I want it.
Is there any app or hack that can fix this?
If you are using samsung keyboard, then keep pressing the "123" button until more controls shows up, theres cursor control.
You can flash or wait for froyo release it comes with a cursor
Thanks to both of you. The 123 option is a PITA, but it's something. Good to know that Froyo is gonna have a cursor. Thank goodness....

I couldn't the 123 option to work. When I press the 123 button, I get four pages of symbols... no directional cursor movements. What am I doing wrong?
If you are using the Swype keyboard, drag your finger from the Swype info button (bottom left corner) to the SYM key (next one to the right). Several cursor control options there, plus a few other handy items.
Also, if you didn't know, dragging from the Swype info button to the "F" key will switch the keyboard into a number keypad.

You need to hold 123, not just click it.

Awesome. Thanks for the help. It's exactly what I needed. Will hold me off until Froyo.
Alternativelly you can use the HTC_IME (which is the HTC keyboard) and set the volume buttons to work as up and down. Pretty handy when you want the cursor to skip a few characters. Though indeed the lack of cursor buttons always visible on the keyboard is kind of irritating especially if you come from an HTC.

I actually went through the process of installing the HTC keyboard, which I loved on my Touch Pro 2. It was laggy as hell and basically unusable. I also did not notice any directional arrows.
I've been meaning to try that keyboard again, since I did the one-touch lag fix. I'll do that right now.
**EDIT**
I can't find the option to use the volume buttons to move the cursor. It's also nowhere near as fast as the Samsung keyboard. Not sure why, but I have to seriously slow down my typing to get it to recognize each key press individually. I was hoping it would be better once I did the lag fix. I guess it's a separate issue...

Hmmm I do not have any lag issues with the keyboard.
Have you tried Calibrating it? That option is in Settings (within the program, activated by long pressing the language toggle key)>Text Input>Calibration tool.
Unfortunatelly, indeed, there are no directional arrows in the layout.
The option to set the volume buttons is in Settings (again, within the keyboard itself)>User Interface>Volume Keys.
EDIT: I don't really have any opinion about the default samsung keyboard as it does not support my language (go figure lol) so I have never used it.
Hello
The QWERTY keyboard has a 'minimise' button to make the keyboard dissappear. The 'Phone Pad' does not... anyone know why, and whether there's any way of acheiving the same result...?
Thanks
When I used to use the HTC_IME mod keyboard on my hero, it didn't have the button to get rid of the keyboard either, but you could use the back key to get rid of it. Maybe this will work?
I have it on my phone ?
Where is it you don`t have it ?
I've used 3 different types of keyboards and finally settled on SlideIT and holding the "Menu" button usually minimizes the keyboard.
Press the back arrow key to minimise the phone keypad
Spock with the 'back' button is that, in some apps (such as Android Market), it takes you back to the previous page rather than just minimizing the keyboard. A small but annoying fault...
I like the Phone Keypad but it doesn't always offer T9. I don't understand why it's available in Messaging but not in the browser. I don't get it.
I've successfully installed ICS keyboard and much prefer it to the KF keyboard. My one gripe is that there doesn't seem to be any way to hide the keyboard.
For example:
1) Click in a text field
2) ICS keyboard opens
3) I begin typing but decide I want to hide the keyboard before hitting Go/Search/Enter/etc.
4) There is no button or action for hiding the keyboard (as far as I can tell)
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

The back button (bottom left corner) changes appearance when the keyboard opens, press that and the keyboard will hide.
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the ICS keyboard does not have a back button in the bottom left-hand corner on my kindle fire. Not sure why this is different from any others. Any suggestions?
I'm running ICS keyboard version 1.4.1 on KF 6.2.2
back button
try to use "button savior" from market. It will give you access to back button on any screen.
Another option: if you running cm7/cm9, go to settings->Cyanogenmod->tablet settings. Select "Extent menu 'Tablet settings'". Then "Select menu buttons".
Select "Back". Then on click on power button you ll get menu with "back" option.
Thanks. I've downloaded and installed Button Savior and it works great.
Where can I download the newer sense keyboards with the hide keyboard button? The keyboard I have is a sense keyboard, but it doesn't have the hide keyboard button, and I don't like having to press the hard back button to hide it. I looked for it for a while, but I can't find the right one.
