First thanks for all the hard work you guys did into rooting the incredible.
I just was wondering how someone would go and revert back to the original recovery and rom if needed just in case we need to exchange our phone if the speaker gets blown out or anything like that. And nothing happened to my phone I enjoy free wifi tethering and the perks of having a rooted phone. I know I could downgrade before unrevoked but not sure if it is possible now. Just wondering if there was a way to reverse it. Now I am just going to wait for some low voltage froyo roms. Keep up the good work.
You can still downgrade.
follow the directions in the first post.

just as a warning it will wipe everything off the phone. but it will be reverted back to stock before the OTA update.
If you want to root it again you'll have to do the whole root process all over again. You know get back into an adb shell while in recovery.
I tried this with both RUU's and have had no luck with the downgrade. I will try again later. But thanks for the suggestion.

I was having an issue getting it to work too.
try renaming the rom while it's still in the temp directory, then pull it to your desktop or wherever you want to pull it too.
I know it sounds dumb but that did the trick for me
Just realized my card 2GB card was formatted to FAT not FAT32. Solved my issue.
Hi i just bought like 2 hours ago an xperia play, i used the gingerbreak app to root my device but after 30 minutes or so the phone turned off then i saw that i had the superuser app but when i tried to use the titanium thing it says im not rooted....i did it like 4 times and nothing, can anybody help me, bootloader locked and r800i model, tnx
UPDATE: I hitnk i found the problem, i had to install busybox from market and now works fine!!! tnx to me xD
I havn't been able to get gingerbreak to work. I've let gingerbreak run for upwards of 45 minutes. How long did it take for you to get it to root?

I had this problem, tried a different MicroSD card, started Gingerbreak, waited about 5 minutes, the phone rebooted and it was rooted.
Note: Some people are saying that using Gingerbreak wipes all the data off your MicroSD card (even though it didn't happen to me). Just a heads up.
plus you also need to have busybox installed for titanium backup to do anything and it doesnt wipe anything from the sd card either

First thing I do when I install TiBu is hit the problems? button and let it get busybox. I've tried 2 SD's so far.... Trying with a third one now. I just want root so I can move some games data (angry birds) over from my last android phone.

Try formatting the sd card in your computer then pop it back in and try gingerbreak again it took me like 4 or 5 times before it finally worked perfect

I don't have an SD card slot on my pc. are there any utilities for android (preferably gui driven in the market) for formatting an sd card on the phone?
Edit: Formatted it in CWM on my Captivate
So I am trying gingerbreak and I am now on to trying 2nd SD card. One thing I have noticed is that as soon as I press root it unmount's the SD card. Both SD's were formatted before trying.
I guess what I am asking is the unmount a normal thing that should happen when running the app? or should I put the formatted SD card in and not mount it?
Can't root my R800x vzw xplay using gingerbreak. shipping 2.3.2 android version the phone shipped with. Looks like big red outsmarted us for now...
i cant get it to work either..... 2.3.2 version..... i already formmated the SD card on the PC. i've waited like 20 minutes.... i see alot of people getting this to work but i cant. Should the phone be connected to the PC for the Debugging mode?

Nope.... its not verizon =/
Well then do not let me discourage you. Best of luck and all that. Also, try turning off/on wifi. I remember reading some posts saying it worked better with that off/on . Not sure why or how it would affect it, but definitely worth the shot.
Gingerbreak doesnt work with 2.3.3 so only use it for 2.3.2.
It does work but you will have to be very patient.
I left mine running and returned every hour, it took around 3 hours for mine to root.
Leave it overnight and it will work.
Dont forget to install busybox after rooting. You can do this from the titanium menu. (if memory serves me correctly)
i will try the wifi thing.... Thanks!
3 Hours? thats ALOT of time lol
Ok, dsswosh is right!! Its just about time!!! 55 mins and root is DONE!!! It may take alot of time but it defenitly WORKS!!! I repeat.... 55 MINUTES!!!
Lol, it takes less time to actually unlock the BL's, download CM7 or kanzone's img and flash any of those than rooting with Gingerbreak.
But that voids the warranty, right?
Yes it voids the warranty unlocking the bootloader, and if you try to to update your phone to 2.3.3 via the official Sony ways you will also brick your phone. It's not a "might" brick your phone, it's a "WILL" brick your phone.
I will say this and some people here might want to read this - 2.3.3 UN-ROOTED works better than 2.3.2 ROOTED. The phone is faster, the battery lasts longer. The only downside is you obviously cant remove your bloatware, and some Gameloft games do not seem to work on 2.3.3
For this reason i have left my phone UN-ROOTED and am using 2.3.3. I am very happy with the performance. Games are alot smoother than a rooted 2.3.2.
Keep that in mind.
Hey everyone so I just got the atrix on Friday because my desire died on me, so I am pretty new to Modding this device. I am using the bell Canada atrix on Telus network and I took all the latest updates before I started the root process.
I unlocked my bootloader and flashed the new recovery and rooted using superoneclick. I was then able to flash the neutrino rom. After flashing the rom I started to use the phone and noticed that I am not able to access my pictures and media on the internal memory. I bought the phone second hand so I don't have an SD cars with it yet. When I go to my gallery it says SD card is unmounted or unavailable.
I have no idea if this is a problem with the rom or the root but when I plug it in I can access the files on my computer. I made a backup of my phone before flashing the new rom but when I try and restore the backup it fails at system every time. I then have to wipe everything again and reinstall the new rom.
Does anyone know what I might have done or what process could have done this and how can I fix it?
Thank you very much for the help.

Wow such an easy fix! Thank you very much worked perfectly
I have try super one click and pete tool that suppose to work for OTA Ginger bread. But neither one work. I only have this droid pro for two month and not smart enough to venture in to SBF rom and stuff back to 2.3.3. Are there any new or easier option for new kid on the block. I keep hearing people bricking their phone and don't want to be the next one.
I think the only way you can root on 4.3.4 is to use the app OTA rootkeeper while you were still on 4.3.3, then upgrade (loosing root)
And then restoring with OTA. I have heard that any attempt to SBF from 4.3.4 will brick your phone. Happened to my brother with his D2. Toasted it.

I was able to use the SBF files from this topic to go back to 2.26.20, root the phone, then install OTA root keeper, upgrade, restore root, upgrade, restore root...... now i'm at 2.3.4 with root.
For some reason i didn't work the first time when i didn't restore root after each update.
Also good to note, make sure your laptop sleep setting is extended or off mine went to sleep on my first attempt and bricked the phone.
Hi everyone!
I am having very strange problem with stock rom "JORDN _U3_6.36.0" from T-Mobile USA on standard Defy. Each time i power phone up, it starts booting up then restarts itself in to stock recovery and perform hard/factory reset. After that it boots normally, but all settings gone.
I am not using T-mobile sim or moto blur account , so i skip registration using "ebluroff" trick. Is that can be the cause of the problem?
Some backstory: when i bought the phone it had CyanogenMod 7 installed on it. I used it for 2-3 years, even updated it several times up to 7.2.
Then some time ago i started having issues with it, so i had to flash stock rom with 2.1 Android.
I decided not to do anything with the phone, until i got some advice, so i any help would be greatly appreciated.
What were the issues faced? Anyhow one of the things you can try is to upgrade to 2.2, via rsd lite

Well, thing is i want to keep my downgrade ability. I rooted the phone with superoneclick and install 2ndInit 1.4.2, but the problem is that it doesn't see SD card because it is Eclair. How people installed nandroid backups on 2.1? There has to be the way to move to 2.2 without flashing full SBF, because as i already mentioned it had CyanogenMod 7 when i bought it, so it is possible.

Some update. After hours of digging i found out these thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=899450
So, i first flashed defy 2.2_boot_only FIXED FSB, then after reboot custom recovery started working, so restored Droid22 rom from it.
Phew, i knew it was possible. So now i have rooted chines (?) android 2.2.1 on my phone and working custom recovery. I am gona stick on it for a while until i find best 2.3.3. nandroid ROM.
Just wanted to clarify was it right order - first flashing fixed SBF then restoring nandroid backup? I couldnt get custom recovery working without updating bootmenu first.
I also wanted to add that i did custom recovery data|cash wipe before flashing fixed SBF, before AND after restoring nandroid backup.
I saw that lots of people had problem like me , hope my message will help.
