Data card... - Acer Iconia A500

Can I connect a data card i.e. wireless internet usb device through the usb port in the tab and connect to the internet??
Sent from my XT720 using XDA App

Not according to the Acer website, they blame it on Android not being able to handle 3g dongle, but I bet someone on here will have that problem (if it exists) sorted in no time!!!

Check in the Development sub-forum. People are already working on 3G dongles.

Xda app problem...

Whenever I open a thread in the xda app on my tab...it just force closes!
Can someone fix this!?

Are you opening the specific forum from your favorites?
I noticed on mine, when I added a forum to my favorites, opened the forum from there....and tried to open a thread...FC.
But, if I open it from the root of the forums....without using favorites...it works.

force close on me too. anytime i try to read a thread
works fine for me reading threads as long as im not logged in.
same happens on mine wichever way I access the postings, wonder if it'll be fixed and when...
Same here. I can access everything fine until I login. Then every thread I open produces a force close.
does this work properly for anyone on an a500? who are able to view threads as a guest and whilst logged on, and reply and comment threads without a FC?
I can't view threads even if I'm logged in or not!

Mine works as long as I don't try to run a search. Search = Force close
The premium Ver doesn't fc even when logged in, I think the non premium one is not compatble with honeycomb, and its large display.

Yeah well it's not fully compatible with Froyo either. Unfortunately the XDA app is a piece of crap and nobody seems inclined to fix it. You'll find copies of this thread in practically every tablet device forum on these boards. I had the same experience with my Viewsonic GTab running Froyo. These XDA crashes go back at least as far as last October.
Some people say if you buy the full app that it doesn't crash, but why would I spend money to buy something on faith when their "trial" app is crap?
</rant>
So, if you want a specific forum app, go buy Tapatalk and forget about it.
Even xda premium doesn't work!!

AFAIK there r no true multi-touch drivers for NC
The drivers which r currently workin on NC have only two touch points enabled

To be fair, that isn't a valid answer. We didn't get bluetooth and USB host from B&N, but it didn't stop our amazing devs from making it work...

[KERNEL][ICS-CM9 or JVU] USB Host mode (OTG) driver for SGS i9000 [BUILD 4]
This thread is a good read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450298
So far its available for the i9000, Captivate, and the Nexus S.
He says this is what he needs to possibly port it to other devices -
The kernel source is avialable on github. It is either a kernel for gingerbread (>=2.6.35) or for ICS (>=3.0)
It also contains (or has links to) the initramfs and all the other files needed to create an update.
If creating the update is not straightforward I also need a script to do this for me
After the update is made I need someone with the device to test it for me. If the feedback is positive I'll build versions for that device too, whenever something is changed.
Discuss.

Seriously what's this mean in normal terms a possible ics port?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Nope, it just means that they've ported USB host(OTG) to other Galaxy S variants by use of a Linux 3.x.x kernel. Not the same as a 2.6.35.7 kernel, it won't just magically work for us, it'd have to be adapted. To except Epic specific things.
Aw okay I was way off that's for he insight

I think the hopes for some ICS action are so strong, and many of us don't understand what goes into porting and creating custom work. Let's be happy with what we have with the epic. I hear cm9 is coming along nicely, so what the hell more should we expect? Dual core LTE's are on the way, so enjoy cm9 when it gets here cause I remember when all of us were wondering if we'd even see gingerbread.

Are you implying your not a normal person.... ?
We are all normal, some of the devs on the otherhand are not but that's what makes em so good at what they do. I mearly meant for someone to put it into terms in which the "commonplace man" could understand because I wasn't getting it/ had the wrong thought.

yeah thanks, but did you read his thread?
There is also a build for stock JVU (Gingerbread). It is possible to port this to older ROMs too (like CM7, or pre-GB ROMs). Ask your favourite kernel developer to do this for you. I only plan to support the CM9 and the stock Gingerbread version.

Th cable is just a mini to usb-A connector, they are pretty cheap. Right now I don't think you can plug a mouse and keyboard into the phone, but I have seen an example of using a usb dock. Usb dock with video out and wireless sixaxis/wiimote controllers combined with every availble console emulator hmmmmmm.....

USB host like Tab 10.1?

I see that with a cable adapter, the Tab 10.1 can host USB (meaning you can plug common USB storage into it). Can the Tab 7 hardware do this?
Yes. there are good reasons to believe this, but the software is still work in progress.
With ICS, there will be USB host, the ICS roms in the dev section are showing a great deal of promise, so the short answer is; "Evenually, yes."
If developers still support us, we should be seeing it soon.
I've asked the same question on the ICS thread since the listed working features include USB host. However, not much people seem to actually have the adapter, so we don't have anyone who can test it.
I'd buy an adapter to try but if it doesn't work, I have no knowledge to help them make it work.
usb adapter
I have bought an adapter, it did not work. The tablet did not recognize the adapter or the usb stick. I waiting to find out there is driver which can be added or if there are any other options available.
