[Q] Regarding HTC HD2 and Android 2.3 - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Dear all..
I have an HTC HD2 EU version (guess thats 512mb) with
SPL: HSPL 2.08
MAGLDR: V1.13
Radio: 2.15.50.14
I have previously used NAND froyo - Android 2.2 with somewhat good sucess.
Now I want to upgrade to android 2.3 or 2.4 but cannot seem to get this working.
Please do not guide me to any tutorials of some sort as I feel I know what to do in the somewhat correct order.
My question is:
Can I run android 2.3 or 2.4 on my HTC or is this just suited for the american version of 1024MB edition?
Is there anyway to upgrade my 512mb rom to 1014mb to fit sense 3.0 and android 2.3/4?
I have tried to use this mod but after flashing and recover it halted on the HTC logo (every mod so far) without booting into android OS.
I am stuck and terrible annoyed for not getting this to work.
Just now, I am back in Windows 6.5 latest rom from HTC (reverted back)
Could someone please guide or direct me to an working rom/mod for my HTC HD2

i have a 512 hd2 and i'm running android 2.3.4 for a long time.so your problem has nothing to do with eu hd2, there may be another problem.go on trying.

Hi,
Firstly you cannot upgrade your 512 phone to 1024.
In order to get the larger SENSE 3.0 ROMS on your 512,is to use an EXT> partition on your sd card...
Before starting anything,BACKUP YOUR DATA.
Get THIS TOOL
Go to ad recovery>advanced>Partition SD Card and choose 1024M and 0 cache.
Reboot, hold power button and go to 5 USB flasher.
On the HD2 installer select MAGLDR Repartition, (size depends on ROM you are using.Get info from [OP] )MB,connect your USB to pc/laptop and press repartition.
Go to ad recovery>wipe data,cache partition,and dalvik(advanced)
You are then ready to flash your ROM.
Go to install zip from sd card, choose your ROM(having already placed it on the root of your sd card).

Go to ad recovery>wipe data,cache partition,and dalvik(advanced)

thanks, I think my issue halted on this section.
I tried every sense of different partition except the one listed above
This might acctually work for me, nice

It seems I cannot get any further sorry to say.
I did what was listed above
1. Go to ad recovery>advanced>Partition SD Card and choose 1024M and 0 cache.
- Worked fine
2. Go to ad recovery>wipe data,cache partition,and dalvik(advanced)
Worked fine
This I did not understand
On the HD2 installer select MAGLDR Repartition, (size depends on ROM you are using.Get info from [OP] )MB,connect your USB to pc/laptop and press repartition.

I installed from zip SD card
HD2_CoreDroid_Desire_HD_GB_V2.1_Release_Version
But after reboot it halted on the HTC quietly brilliant / COREDROID / GET YOU CONNECTED logo screen
Nothing happens after this (going on 20 minutes now)
I tried to reboot as well
I must have done something wrong..

have you flashed the correct partition size?

This?
Go to ad recovery>advanced>Partition SD Card and choose 1024M and 0 cache.

Hi,
I just looked at the cwm size for core droid rom, and it says 390M and 5 cache.
So,change the HD2 installer to these figures and flash the partition.

Ok, so I need to do this in the right order
1. Install MAGLDR 1.13
2. MAGLDER repartition set to CWM requirements
3. Go to ad recovery>advanced>Partition SD Card and choose 1024M and 0 cache.
4. Go to ad recovery>wipe data,cache partition,and dalvik(advanced)
5. transfer zip installer to SD card
6. Install zip via SD card
And it should work or is the recipe wrong

for every rom there is a cwm partition. it is explained in coredroid readme.txt. you must find it and flash it using usbflasher in mgldr menu and daf.exe in cwm partition folder from your pc.

There was no coredroid readme.txt to be found..
Nevertheless, got it to work now, running
[CWR-CLEAN] BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA_GINGER 2.3.4-Sense.s V28 (08.Jun)
Thanks for the excellent assist guys

[Q] Reset android

Hi, I'm new on this forum, and I already have a problem
I just got my HD2 with android running from the phone. I was an xperia and WM user before, so I decided to give it a try. I'm trying to reset the phone (so I can costumize android) via Settings-Privacy-factory data reset, but it wont work, I hit the button "Erase everything" and noting happens.
Is there any other way to do this, maybe from the "boot manager" (I dont know the proper term for this).
...oh yes, I dont know witch specific rom is installed, I only know it is android 2.3.4
By "running from the phone " I assume you mean nand.
Turn on phone, hold power till get magldr screen, in magldr choose Ad recovery, when clockwork starts choose "wipe data factory rwsst" and "wipe cache" then restart.
yes I tried that before but it says "no boot sources"
so I guess I'm without clockwork...and I guess also this can be installed only when you install a new ROM..

Hi,
Backup your data before you start.
Download THIS TOOL (Don't forget to thank him)
Find your new ROM and determine the new partition size.
In the toolkit highlight Magldr update recovery, choose your size and update.
Then go to ad recovery and wipe data, cache partition, and dalvik(advanced).
Then install ROM.
The new partition + the wiping will thouroughly clean you up .
Tnx for the help, but I think I'm going to put WM back because I just found out that outlook and google can't be synced so easily as I use outlook for everything it's a shame.
Thank you very much for your help.
I use outlook. Myphoneexplorer syncs fine with outlook. (though I don't sync with google since doing so corrupts many of my contacts custom fields)

Hi,
This tool does a lot of the hard work for you.
Remember to back up your data before you start ,because these processes wipe your system clean.
Yes,this tool wipes your device(Not the sd card).
Re-install everything.
Use the tool to re-partition your system:
system ya 390M
cache ya 5M
Then:
go to ad recovery and wipe data, cache partition, and dalvik(advanced).
then install ROM
so to install a new NAND android rom (HD2 CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V3):
i need to have MAGLDR and before that the right radio and HSPL. I already have all of this because I have installed an android rom.
from what I learned today reading all sorts of things on the forum, is that I can install this rom (HD2 CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V3) or any other also without doing all that staff with the SD card and partitions, CWM... or am I wrong? - From the MAGLDR USB flash. for this to work does the rom have to be a special file type or can it be .zip like for the flashing from the SDcard?
...the CWM allowes me to backup and update android, or so I understend it?
but is it possible to install via MAGLDR #4 option and install CWM afterwards?
forgot: this tool kit enables me to do all this: install new MAGLDR, CWM an then I falsh the rom? I don't understand how it works

Hi,
Backup your data before you start
Read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
Magldr repartition(use 5 usb flasher) (390MB, 5MB cache)
Then 8 ad recovery>wipe data,cache partition,dalvik(advanced)
Then go to install zip from sd card
Choose zip from sd card (which you should have placed on the root of your sd card, using a card reader)
After installation,reboot.
Give it time.
Some ROMS take 15-20 minutes to install.
aha so if I repartition MAGLDR my device will be wiped an the CWM will be installed. the partition sizes that you suggested are for the rom (HD2 CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V3) that I'm trying to install? (I cant yet post in their thread so can't ask them)
and if I can ask this particular rom can be installed only by partitioning and flashing it by sdcard or also in MAGLDR?

ok I think i got it now (about time ) only one question
Can I put the .zip ROM in the SD card by connecting the phone before I start the whole process like I would put music on or does it have to be formatted and empty with only rom on it?

Hi,
Sd card does NOT need to be formatted.
It is best to put the new ROM onto the root of your sd card,USING A CARD READER.
This will avoid any data corruption.

Ok, I give up, NONE OF THE METHODS WORK

I am now sitting in front of my HD2 for more than three hours and have watched several tutorials on how to get any android rom onto my HD2.
With MAGLDR I get the "123456 GO GO GO" - and then nothing happens
And before that there is a NAND KERNEL OPEN FAILED
Trying to get to the USB Mass Storage mode, Windows 7 (64) does not recognize the SD card. However, this shows then up in the USB eject menu (Eject MAGLDR)
With cLK I get some "flash_read_image: failed (511 errors) ERROR: Cannot read recovery_header" error
On my SD card, there is a ZIP file as downloaded "NexusHD2-IceCreamSandwich_Beta10.zip", formatted as FAT32.
Before, I flashed a stock WinMo 6.5, installed HSPL and a matching Radio one more time...
So no method works for me. Please help me.
1 - the mass storage in magldr doesn't work (for large files at least)
2 - you need to flash cwm with the correct partition layout after flashing magldr(or clk) and before flashing the rom.

i just recommend you to try flashing one more time from a scratch !!
install everything back to stock !! (install spl 1.42.0000 and stock rom)
reboot your device and start again !!
1) install hspl 2.08
2) install radio 2.15.50.14
3) do a task29
4) install magldr/clk (your choice)
5) flash recovery
now !!
insert your memory card in ur pc via a card reader only (dont use any mass storage or anything else !! use a good card reader only !! )
format it to fat32 with allocation size unit to 32kb !!
put the card into phone !!
boot up the device and make a partition 512mb ext -0mb swap !!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013852
flash this rom!!
atleast for the start or any other rom of your choice !! !!
try booting up !!
may help !!
GOOD LUCK
i think your problem lies in the ext4 partition that you have to make.
Today i tried this ROM which works great.
First things first:
I have a EU HD2 too (512Mb)
with a 16Gb SD card
make sure you have HSPL 2.08 if not see this thread
What i did:
First download these:
-Notepad++ (if you don't have it)
-the ROM from the above link.
-MAGLDR 1.13 (but HD2 Toolkit takes care of this too )
-HD2 Toolkit (for various reasons including Task 29)
-i use 4EXT 2.2.7 by Dansta34 recovery instead of CWM, it's great and does EXT4 partitions
-i flashed 2.15.50.14 radio (but i think 2.14.50.04 is better, at least for me so i'm going to flash it back)
-Now i removed my SD card from the phone and format it in Windows as FAT32, no partitions just yet.
-Plugged the phone to my PC via USB
-Ran HD2 Toolkit and pressed the Task29 button (now your phone is wiped) while with the phone in bootloader (turn on while pressing the Volume down button)
-Use HD2 Toolkit to flash MAG Loader too, just press the button while in bootloader
-Now bring your phone in MAG Loader (turn on and keep the far right button/end call button pressed until the list appears on the screen) and choose USB Flasher (option 5)
-Go to the folder where you downloaded TBD Ext4 Recovery V2.2.7 ported & moded by Dansta34 and find the flash.cfg file.
-Open the file with Notepad++ and change it to look like this(if you are going to try the rom above):
misc ya 8M
recovery rrecov|ro|nospr filesize recovery_leo.img
boot yboot|ro 5M
system ya 220M
cache ya 5M
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize
-Save and close the file.
-Run DAF.exe from the same TBD Ext4 Recovery V2.2.7 ported & moded by Dansta34 folder to flash Recovery.
-When finished enter MAG Loader again and choose option 8 - AD Recovery by pressing the far left button/call button. wait for it to load.
-Choose from the recovery menu Advanced (scroll down with the Volume down button and confirm with the call button)
-Choose Partition SD Card, choose Remove all partitions and start from scratch
-Choose first SDEXT 1024, second SDEXT - skip, swap 128 and most important Choose EXT4 file system.
-Go back and choose File System Check, choose SDCARD and let it repair.
-Now you can remove your SD card and copy the ROM on your FAT32 partition (the largest one in case you run Linux on your PC).
-Let it copy and put the SD card in your phone.
-Boot in MAG Loader, choose AD Recovery and select install ROM from SDcard.
-When prompted choose the proper options (EU HD2, MAGLDR, etc.)
You should be good to go now, it's a great rom.
Let me know if everything is ok, eventually PM me.
Good luck
I think there's the problem. I don't have a microSD cardreader, I only can copy the file directly to the microSD via the USB cable.
Any suggestions for that?
Do you still have the microSD -> SD adapter?
If not, i'm afraid you'll have to find one or a microSD card reader if your planning on flashing a lot
That's the root of your problems too
Disregard everything, it works!
I just had to wait for clockwork approx. one hour until it loaded...
That's not good either..You really don't have to wait that long over anything.
Anyway, when you decide to start fresh, look over my post above, it'll help, took me weeks to understand some things and luckly the search function works.
Yeah, I'll give it a shot, thanks!
The wait is really bad...
I know exactly how you feel, I've been there.
i still don't know everything either but little by little, searching here and there and we'll make it

Hi Katalin,
Thanks for your post. I intend to use this ext4 partition next time when I''ll flash a new ROM. Tell me please is really good or is just a new thing and that's all?
Salutare
I read about it last night when trying the new NRG ROM since a lot of people were having problems with CWM.
Apparently we needed EXT4 file system partition and CWM does EXT3 only.
The only thing i don't like about it it's the background, i think the rest it's better especially the partitioning menu.
I have written a guide that might can simplimify things some for you.

Well you clearly haven't read enough! All of these threads show that flashing a .50 radio unlocks the 576 MB RAM. For f**k's sake, stop posting stupid questions in the Q&A when there have been a tonne of them, just use the search and read properly. It isn't hard.
EDIT: Lol, just saw that samsamuel got in a minute before me. Oh how ironic my post now is :')

assuming you mean you flashed magldr, but it doesnt start magldr? just goes to splash screen?
If yes, then either hspl is wrong or radio is wrong.
hspl MUST be 2.08.hspl - enter bootloader and check the spl line.
yo, i wrote this once to another guy per pn. think its still up to date. could be possible that i messed up some facts hehe

Hi. thats not that difficult.
Best thing is you read HERE CAREFULLY
But i am trying to explain it easy for you:
First you need to be sure you have the following "things" installed correctly:
1.) Prepare your Mobile
HSPL 2.08 (to be able to flash MAGLRD)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5279234&postcount=1
Radio 2.50.15.14 (which supports 576MB RAM)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
MAGLDR 1.13 Bootloader (to be able to install Clockwork Mod)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893618
Recovery (Clockwork Mod; i prefer the Touch version)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419733
For ICS you need at least 200MB system partition (Recovery Layout; the space from your NAND (intern memory) for your ROM file). Means you have to edit the flash.cfg coming with MAGLDR before flashing the CWM; do this with Notepad++:
I am using following config (flash.cfg):
misc ya 1M
recovery rrecov|ro|nospr filesize recovery-raw.img
boot yboot|ro 5M
system ya 220M
cache ya 5M
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize
Now you are prepared for installing a ROM. In your case ICS.
2.) Flash ROM
Download the .zip file for your ROM. There are two versions. CLK (just another Bootloader) and MAGLDR. We are using MAGLDR. So download it here:
[15.Jan.2012] NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.3-CM9 V1.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434860
Now you just need to copy the ROM .zip on your SD-Card. Then load into Bootloader (MAGLDR) and choose point 8. for your Recovery (CWM).
Now, if you had another rom installed, you need to wipe all cache and data including the Dalvik Cache (under Advanced).
Then install your .zip file with "install zip from sd" and wait. Done. Restart your mobile
3.) Install DATA2SD
IF you want to use DATA2SD (means to store apps and system relevant data on your sd-card) you have to create an EXT-Partition on your SD-CARD.
Just do this with CWM, there is an option for it (should be something like "Partition your SD-Card"). I am using 1GB partition with 0MB swap.
Once you have done this navigate to this thread and do EXACTLY what that guy wrote in post #207. But instead of using the file from post #207 use the flashable file from post #174 (40ad2sdx-a2Recovery.zip).
If you did it correctly you are done
And again, for additional info read THIS COMPLETLY.
Have fun

assuming you mean you flashed magldr, but it doesnt start magldr? just goes to splash screen?
If yes, then either hspl is wrong or radio is wrong.
hspl MUST be 2.08.hspl - enter bootloader and check the spl line.

you flash the partition layout (and cwm) through usb flasher, then flash teh rom from sd.

Bloody hell, can't you do anything yourself? Are you completely incapable of typing a question into Google!?
Boot into CWM recovery and select partition SD card, choose 1024Mb partition and 0Mb swap. This will delete everything on your SD card though.

If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all, i think is better to ask google to ask some new mombre hiere. because your solution dont work and if a choose 1024mb partition i cant format my sd card and i cant copie the rom inside
but with 512M partition all work but phone reboot affter update .thanks to all

Can I repartition NAND without Windows (Linux or SD tools only)

What I have:
MGLDR 1.13
CWM - 5.0.2.6
Ubuntu working
What I want:
To enlarge my system part from 155 to 200 MB
What I tried:
HD2 NAND toolkit under wine - woll not work cos USB drivers cant be installed ( Or I dont know how. Emulation starts OK)
ClockWorkMod SD version:
I tired:
For MAGLDR up to 1.13, booting from SDCard (SD-files version):
Download the file attached
Extract the files to the root directory of your sdcard
Start recovery within MAGLDR with menu point "AD SD"
Recovery should start
You're done

SD card is 8GB, class 4 (I suppose). Cant swear how exactly it was formatted, used gparted default options.
Any help appreciated
This probably isn't the answer you were looking for, but cLK 1.5 supports repartitioning on the device. It can also be installed via sd card. It's aim (amongst other things) is to completely remove the need of a PC, in case you have a broken USB port.
cLK thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1114053&page=96
The only thing that is holding me back from clk is the rmnet issue. I will probably find a pc and do the re-part that way, or try with a smaller, freshly formatted 2 gb SD card.
will report if I succeed with the SD mgldr method.

MAGLDR + Recovery
When you are flashing the recovery (after flashing the MAGLDR), there is a flash.cfg file (text-file), which configures the partitioning. You can simply change the corresponding values before flashing.

I know that. The problem is that the kernel, which should boot the install procedure of CWM( and the process of re-partitioning) never actuall starts...

NativeSD simple tutorial

LEO is still the king!
Thanks a lot, securecrt and Xylograph!
I What is "NativeSD"
As the name shows, the SD card now do what native storage do. In other words, we can leave the nand and done almost everthing with one SD card!
II Benifits of NativeSD
1. Common benifits
Don't need to worry about bad blocks in nand, no need to adjust system size。
2. On premise of large storage of SD card
The partition used as native storage can be very large duo to your SD card(<32GB).
Muilt ROMs(wm,wp,androids)
3. On premise of fast SD card
Faster Read/Write speed than NAND ROMs,better。
III Install ROM
1. Prepare
*1)Android rom that support NativeSD, cellphone(LEO,with SD card, battery>50%), computer,cable,4EXT recovery
*2)Backup all your data on SD card(if you want to keep it).
2.magldr users
1)This is the case that you download the SD version of 4EXT recovery.
copy the unziped files to you fold "a" in your SD card.("a" is just a sign, can be any name, just make sure the folder is in the root directory of SD card)Notice: please make sure these files are in the root directory of "a",not any sub folder:clcad.exe,haret.exe,initrd.gz,startup.txt,zImage
2)This is the case that you download and already install the nand version of 4EXT recovery.
2.1Boot to recovery

2.2.4 choose the size of EXT partition as you want, all your system and apps will be install to this partition,so if you want more systems ,choose a big one.(must large than 512M)
2.2.5 choose the size of swap partion,I recommend 0(choose skipe).
2.2.6 choose Yes - I'm sure,waitting for the progress to finish。
2.2.7 when back to recovery main page
if 1)
choose power menu, then choose Reboot ,and hold the red button while boot, when the menu of magldr shows, connect the phone to your computer, choose 4.USB MassStg,repeat 1),2.1.1,2.2.2 and 2.3.7.2

Can't boot

NativeSD without flashing MAGLDR or cLK?
my background:
I use Android ICS and MIUI on Leo HTC HD2, booting from SD-Card using haret.exe in WM6.5.
I can't flash my device with MAGLDR or cLK, because it's leased and I have to return it back in some time with the original WM6.5.
Now my question:
Can I use native SD instead of "standart SD", because I hope it's faster, wihthout flashing any custom boot loader and destroing the original OS?
If I got it right, flashing a MAGLDR or cLK erases the complete device (except of HSPL and radio), right?
The only thing I dared to do before, was to flash the HSPL and a Radio Update, because this didn't touched the WM6.5.
I came so far to create a EXT4 and a FAT32 partitions on my SD-Card (32MB, Class 10) with "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 7.6". Then I downloaded the 4EXT Recovery and booted it from WM6.5 with haret.exe, but now I'm stucked.
All I got is, the 4EXT Recovery do the same job as this MiniTool. It makes partitions on my SD-Card.
I planed to install NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.1 ROM as NativeSD, but I'm afraid I can't do this without flashing the MAGLDR or cLK and erasing the WM6.5
Any help?
thanks for the guide

OK, I helped myself. Thanks!
Partitioned the SD-Card with 4EXT-Recovery again. Created 2 EXT4 partitions 2 GB each, the rest (25 GB) goes for the FAT32 partition.
Then installed the "NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.1 ROM".ZIP (was an AROMA installer) from FAT32 partition and it worked!
Altough it's all very slow and the second EXT4 partition is unused. don't know why the recovery aked my to create one.
"I What is "NativeSD"

I'm REALLY new here so this might be a naive question but does that mean we'll be able to run WM 6.5 and WP 7 in a dual boot configuration now? From what I've heard they can only be installed on the HD2's NAND leaving room for either or, but since you say that NativeSD can do whatever the native storage does I thought it might be possible to run them direct off the SD?
Thank you for this guide.
