My wife needs a tablet for work and at the same time wants and needs a lightweight instant-on device because she's going back for her Master's degree.
Initially the perfect answer was the ASUS Transformer due to the dock and 16 hour battery life. However, the odds of getting one before she starts her classes next month are incredibly slim due to supply problems. Not to mention the talk about the dock causing lockups and what not.
So I'm now looking into the Iconia (Xoom is not an option). I like the device and so does my wife. However, I need a few questions answered to help me make the purchasing decision.
I've searched a bit, but can't really find the answers I need. So if you Iconia A500 owners out there can answer these questions it would be greatly appreciated.
What BT keyboard do you use?
Does the BT keyboard work correctly all the time, part of the time, or intermittently?
Any problems connecting the BT KB to the A500?
What case do you use to hold the A500 and the keyboard? Preferably, a case that doubles as a stand.
Many thanks in advance!

You could check this out on amazon.
A1CS Leather Look Case + USB Keyboard + Stylus pen + Screen Protector for 10 inch ePad aPad tablet PC
Just £20, also acts as a stand, and of course a cover. I was really impressed with the quality and what it is for just £20.
Free delivery (UK) and came the next day.
I ordered it for my vega which fits perfectly and keyboard works when switched to host mode.
However the iconia was a little bit narrow for the case but i just squeezed the tabs at the side in. Keyboard works 100%
Hope this helps...

Looks likes nice case. Do the tabs that hold the tablet in place block the USB port? Someone (maybe you) reviewed it on Amazon said it was not in a good location.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
Yeah they block the vega a bit, but can be adjusted.
As for the iconia doesn't block at all, although as stated is a bit wide for the iconia but again tabs can be squeezed in a bit.

Many thanks. That's exactly what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, that one isn't available here in the US. Only the UK Amazon site has it.

I have my Xoom with full HDMI functionality, meaning it mirrors whatever the tablet is displaying on a large TV screen. Since I am a developer, I don't wanna use it for any app testing yet. Instead, I would rather to use my Driod X I just bought at eBay. I learned that the HDMI port of Droid X outputs only your own gallery, not the same way as Xoom does. Is there a way to make Droid X mirror whatever it is displaying on a TV screen?
The reason why I wanna use large screen to see the results of my development work is because my vision is rather poor.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
KK
Due to the processor in the Droid X, mirror mode is impossible. Sorry.
Of course, RealHDMI can at least show almost everything through HDMI. Just not on the phone screen while doing it.
Splashtop HD is on the market, says that it is optimized for tablets Anyone have any experience with it or know what the real difference is from regular splashtop?

Oh here it is....I already posted in the Xoom section where a dupe thread is. LOL!!!
Great program but changes the resolution of the host computer. QUITE annoying.
Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for the info!
Compared to normal Splashtop, does it have any noticeable performance increases that you recognize?
you can change the resolution in the settings to match what your pc is already set to so it does not change the resolution on conection
The difference from Splashtop hd, and regular Splashtop, seems to be that in Splashtop hd, there is an option to have native resolution. The option are listed as 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 720, Best fit to this device, and Native of the computer. Compared to in regular Splashtop, which only has 800 x 600, and 1024 x 768. Also in Splashtop hd. In settings, there is a option to enable dual core.
I hope this helps.

looks like it might be worth it then, thanks for clarifying that the market page says nothing as to the difference between the regular and hd one.
Good deal, thanks!
Here's hoping the native res option gets added to the existing Splashtop version too...
Does the HD version allow for connecting via a Google account, as was recently enabled in the server component?
FYI, here's some links:

Do tell....because I have been in the settings for both my TF AND my iMac and no such setting exists.
There it is.....hidden NOT IN THE SETTINGS but in the "arrow" beside the computer name.
Two finger scrolling is awful though.
Does splash HD run on different wireles network?
Hey, I've just purchased my 32gb asus transformer 2 weeks ago and love it. I was interested in purchasing the new splash hd app from the android market and was wondering could i still connect to my computer from an outside network as i spend the majority of my day at college or in the library. I know you can do it on the splashtop iphone app through google account. Is the same feature available on the new splash hd android app??
this ability was recently added on the ios version of the app, but it's not available for android yet for god knows what reason. so much better than any other option but i can only use it locally.....kind of a bummer.

I went ahead and bought it. Would recommend it for other transformer users. The overall speed and performance is definitely better.
Seems faster then the regular splashtop while I am tethering from my phone to my laptop at home, then compared to using splashtop from off of my home network.

I bought it, tested and returned. The regular one fits my needs so far, tho the native res is nice.
Through some simple port forwarding you can do it outside the local network

Would you mind explaining how? I found a page on splashtop that explained it, but it did not work. Maybe I'm doing it incorectly, but if you've connected from an outside network with your transformer please share
How does the A100 feel compared to the A500 in the hand? Obviously lighter, but quality wise.
Quite nice actually. I have both, would say that the A100 is as nicely built as the A500. The plastic back feels solid, and the swoopy design on the back is pretty subtle. The power button is bigger and feels more solid. The volume rocker is as sorry as the A500. I swear it takes better photos too. The screen is fine, viewing angles at any angle I would ever use are OK. It's the worst looking at the bottom edge at like an 80 degree angle, and who does that? It also seems more evenly lit the the A500. Overall, I love the little thing. I don't carry the big one for work anymore.

How about the screen? I'm worried it'll be too skinny. When reading some PDFs or Kindle books I find the formatting of pics/diagrams easier to view in the "tall" orientation as opposed to "wide". I was worried the 7" might seem too pinched, otherwise the size is a blessing. 10 is just too big for the way I use it. iphone is too small and 10" is too big, so I'm thinking 7 will be the sweet spot.
sweet spot
Whooweee I wanna one if there is a sweet spot.OK seriously I think the 7 inch one would fit in better.fit in my purse. But I will have to wait for price to go down
Mde me realize I hadn't tried the Nook application on this thing yet. Fired it up with the default font, Looks fine in portrait mode, it's about the same as a paperback book. The chapter art and text don't feel pinched the all. I like it better than the 2 page landscape mode. It's too small for that. I'm giving it a thumbs up as an e-reader. I also got tired of the 10.1 inch monster. It's relegated to the living room laptop role. The A100 looks less silly using it to read at lunch than the half a laptop.

The gift card deal has expired on both the A500 & A100 even though it still says so on the web site untill you read the details and it gives the dates. $328 for the 8 gb wish they had the 16 gb.
I imagine this will be fixed but the Kindle app on the A100 (HC 3.2) FC's when you open a book. It doesn't do this on the A500 (HC 3.1)
I currently both and have to give one of them up. I still can't decide which one I want to keep. The A100 is much easier to hold and carry. Also HC 3.2 is suppose to scale better too. I find thing are small on the A100 but can pinch & zoom so I can read it better. I think a lot depends on what you want use it for.
Don't think you could go wrong with either one, they both have their good and not so good points.
I've got both too. Keeping them. Probably shouldn't. Didn't know Kindle didn't work. I Had an original Nook, so I usually buy books from them, that app works fine. I oddly have more problems with tablet specific apps than phone apps. Just checked my 3.2 updated A500. Kindle works fine. Weird.

I might pass the A500 off to the g/f, depends on what I can get for it. The A100 is basically a mini clone though right? Reading stuff online it has the USB, micro-SD, micro-HDMI and all that. How about the GPS? Any of you owners note issues like some had with the A500(slow to lock etc)
I have a samsung charge, all samsungs have crap GPS. Used to slow. I used the A500s once, seemed ok. Haven't tried the A100s yet. It really is a shrunk down A500. Can't wait for custom ROMS/kernels to really pimp it out.

Yea, it'll be interesting to see the battery life once it's got some OC/UV love. I crank my A500 way down to 600Mhz when I'm just reading PDFs or ebooks.
A100 doesn't have the full USB option so no connecting flash drive or keyboard. I have both the a100 and a500. I love them both. People complain of viewing angles but for me its no problem. I love how the a100 fits in my glove compartment and motorcycle tank bag.

I came to the A500 from a Viewsonic G Tab, that had bad viewing angles. Not impossible, but certainly not as good as an iphone or even the A500. I'm about to go pick up my A100 at Walmart, can't wait to come home and unbox it. I haven't seen a Kindle update claiming to fix the A100 problems. Has their been any OTA for the A100 that claims to fix them?
Just got a Kindle update, works now!

Amazon just delivered my A100 yesterday. So far, so good, but HoneyComb is going to take some getting used to.
Nothing wrong with the A100 for the price you can get one at. A true Honeycomb 3.2 tablet with a 1024 x 600 screen for just a little over the $249 Nook Color that struggles with honeycomb, and much less than the $499 HTC Flyer that only has one "extra" feature over the A100. And that'll cost you an additional $70 for the stylus required to use it.
I've posted my review of the A100 on my blog.
LINK.
I've been very happy with my G Pad, but I'm wondering what those of you with a 10" tablet are doing with your larger devices? I've heard people say that they satisfy different uses, but what are they being used for?
I have an Acer A700, which is the main media device about the house (on account of me being able to play stuff on my TVs via HDMI). But if I get a Slimport adapter for the G Pad, I wonder if the Acer will soon be headed for a new home...

An appropriate slip of the keys, considering I'm asking about whether people are losing interest in their 10" tabs now that they have a G Pad.

I still miss my 10-incher
I got the GPE G Pad because my 10-inch Transformer Prime screen went blank, and Asus wanted $300 to replace the motherboard.
The reviews for the new Asus TF701T mentioned lots of problems, and I was waiting and waiting for the new Nexus 10. When it didn't happen, but the GPE was announced, I thought the opportunity to get pure Android and smaller tablet would be worth it. The tablet would be great around the house, and I'd add a keyboard to make it my very light laptop for travel.
So I got the G Pad and a bluetooth keyboard. I love the tablet, and use it at home every day for email, FB, Twitter, reading, web stuff, videos etc. I love it -- 8.3 is just right.
But I think I would actually still like a laptop-like (Transformer-like) form factor for travel. The screen is too small for lots of work needs, and having a separate, detached keyboard feels like a kludge. IF there was a new Nexus 10 in the next year or so that included a keyboard, I might get it too, though it would be hard to justify all that money.

ONLY reason I am interested in mid-sized tablets (8"/8.5") is WEIGHT.
Anything beyond 350/400 grams is simply too heavy to be ergonomic and truly comfortable for extended use.
It's as simple as that.
The new Samsung Tab Pro 10.1" is 469grams and I am planning on trying it out with the intention of switching back to a 10.1"...
Ideally, my perfect tablet would be something like the Note Pro 12.2" but would weigh no more than 400 grams with an all-day battery life... (which is, of course, not technically possible. YET).
I have an iPad air I like to use when I have a bigger screen. I mainly bought the G Pad because I want a android tablet but don't really need a huge one.
