[Q] SD Card unmounting - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I am new to rooting Android phones. I don't seem to be having a problem with anything except that "most of the time" when I try to move a rom .zip file onto my sd card it unmounts and says file cannot be read from source. It makes me disconnect my phone from the pc and eject and re-insert my sd card. Anyone know what could be causing this issue? I am trying to run cyanogen mod 7. I am currently running ice glacier 1.6 on a mytouch 4g. It did it when I tried to move over ice glacier (when i was stock) and i tried it with different versions until it finally worked. Cannot get it to work with Cyanogen though :/ Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HELP! can't mount SD card (i've already tried all the fixes)

I've been using android on my phone for awhile, and tried a bunch of different builds and never got this error. Yesterday when i was switching back to shubcraft all of the sudden the boot loader gives me
mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /sdcard failed: invalid argument
failed
failed to mount sd card. cannot continue.
/bin/sh: cant't access tty; job control turned off
i tried loading just about ever build and get the same thing.
I've changed the startup.txt and i always reformat before i switch builds. i was thinking it might be the sd card itself, but it works fine in winmo.
if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated, im having android withdrawls...
oh and its the stock 16gb class 2
EDIT: It randomly started working again...strange...
This Is What I Do
I was getting either the same thing or something very close to it on about 2 rom to the best of my understanding is when your trying to flash (for lack of better words) a new rom you still have some left over traces either on your storage card or the phone so what you need to do is format your SD card and reflash your phones rom.
I took the origin file put it on my sd card unzipped it there went into the android rom folder cut the plain android folder paste it withe the other folders then reased every folder EXCEPT the PLAIN ANDROID FOLDER now put the sd card in the phone enable the the sound then install android.
To be able to watch the process after you flash your rom go to settings, system, power (battery) and uncheck everything so it doesn't sleep. when you install now you will see the progress and will be able to read the progress if you see 2 things have failed
This is my process and it hasn't failed yet when I didn't do it this way I had fails.

okay this is now happening to me as well!
had been using Android and various different builds without hitch.
but today after trying the Hyperdroid build the sd card fails to mount on startup.
Editing the startup.txt does nothing, have also flash to the latest chuckyrom and formatted the sd card time and time again and tried different builds.
anyone have any other suggestions?
Ta
working again now.
the fix for me was to reupload my backup to the sd, format then upload the required new build.
very odd...

Rom Manager thinks my Dinc is a Fascinate

Just like the title says, Rom Manager things my Dinc is a Fascinate. I am currently running Cyanogenmod 6.1 RC2 and Rom Manager is baked in, I've tried deleting the updates but when I go into download rom, I get only Fascinate roms. Any ideas on how to fix this one?

Are you using an SD card from elesewhere?
Try uninstalling ROM Manager and reinstalling - you may get the device selection screen, at which point you choose Incredible rather than Fascinate.
Absent that, with the device on, unmount the SD and power down the device. Then take SD out, copy entire contents to PC so you'll have them, and format the SD card to FAT32. Put SD back in device, d/l ROM manager to get the device selection menu.
Then you can copy files back to SD card from your PC.
Please post whether this (or something other) works.

Thanks a lot.
I uninstalled ROM Manager and put a different (blank) micro SD card in the phone then reinstalled ROM Manager, this did the trick. The SD card I was using came out of a fascinate and that was causing the issue. Thanks again.

[Q] after downloading android on hd2 my sd card says not available or remount help!

i downloaded SuperRAM_Sense_v0.1 on my htc hd2 and everything is fine, except it wont let me use my sd card, i cant save images or ANYTHING that has to do with the sd card wont work can someone please help me, i dont want to delete this android off my htc hd2 cause i love it, but if i cant fix this, im going to have to delete it, or is there a better one i can download??
I've met similar problems before, and I thought it was my card being broken. But finally it turns out to be the issue of WM rom, and I flashed a new ROM into HD2, and then SD card is available again and works fine.
I would recommend that take a back up of the SD card and reformat it. Sometimes it can clear most of the nagging problems.

Can't Transfer Data in Android

For some reason I cannot transfer data to the SD card while in Android.
I've tried updating the USB drivers and trying different USB ports.
I've tried a different SD card. I've even formatted the SD card entirely.
The problem persists.
I am at a lost.
I'm running AmeriCanDroid 072211 build.
Has anyone else experienced this and could help?
...after copying to sd the files appear only after restart?
This is a problem with your rom you are using..the newer roms shouldn't have this problem.
You could try dual mount
Sd widget or multi mount sd widget...maybe this solves the problem too.
Edit: just saw that you use a sd rom...don't know if this is fixed on sd builds

The files will only sometimes appear after a restart.
On occasion they appear, but they aren't readable but most of the time they don't even show up.
...as already mentioned i got these problems in older nand builds.
But this was fixed some time ago.
Pls try this-> perhaps its a workaround for your issue:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rafoid.multimountsdcard.widget.free
..just looked into the sd roms section, seems that you are using one of the newest sd roms...so this seems not be fixed on sd builds!?
Why not trying a nand build? ..I will promise, that you won't regret it =)

external sd card not mounted miui

hi folks.
here's the thing. i just flashed miui 2.1.13 .32 kernel. and when i go to file explorer, i can only see my internal sd card. no matter what program i use... same. AND when i pull out extrenal sd card, phone says that there is NO sd card inserted. but when i put it back in, everything is back to same.
help? thank you
try to push the card slightly to one side or the other. That happened to me too and it was the card that wasn't making contact with the phone.
I got the solution with X5-Setting. Here ist a option for internal or external Card

awesome that helped thank you
I'm running .35 kernel, and have noticed that the last few releases of MIUI wont mount the external SD card after a shutdown & startup. It says the SD card is corrupted & needs to be formatted. I even exchanged the SD card for a new one and I still kept getting the problem. I found that rebooting the phone fixes the problem - the SD is now mounted. So it seems to only be a problem after doing a full shutdown - not a restart.
Managed to kill one of my sdcards in the latest miui, it got dced al the time and now i cant write, delete or format it. Have tried it on my laptop without luck. So be careful

Hi,
I have the same problem! If I power on the smartphone from a full shutdown my sdcard (the external one, 16 GB Sandisk) is not mounted, then if I restart the X5 Pro, Android mount correctly my external sdcard.
For this reason I wanted to change sdcard (before I had a Sandisk 4GB) with a new Sandisk 16GB sdcard. The problem is still here
How can I fix this problem?
I flashed a lot of different roms, based on B512, B540, custom gingerbread 2.3.4, Gingerbread by Genokolar, porting U8860 Huawei Honor for X5Pro, CyanogenMod 7.1 but I have always the same problem.
Please developers, find a solution because it is not a nice bug.

Experiencing the same problem on my U8800, MIUI 2.1.20, 2.6.35 kernel. After shutdown, the sdcard will not mount. Have to reboot to get it to work again.
Hi, I have the same problem and for this reason I opened a new thread discussing this bug.

Did you try that on Windows tools or with Unix tools?
