[Q] General Queston on Optimus 7 - Optimus 7 General

I recently got a Optimus 7 and have Virgin Mobile as my carrier. It is defined as an android and has version 2.2.1 on it. I got to this forum looking to see how to 'root' it and discovered people talking about Windows! Does this phone have a Windows Operation System too? I want to 'root' my phone and am concerned about not 'bricking' it when I discovered the discussions on windows.
Any suggestions on methods or directions of 'rooting' this phone? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure you have the LG Optimus 7? Because this phone can't have android on it. If it has android on it it must be a fake Optimus 7 or it's just another phone.

Yes, I'm sure it is an LG Optimus 7, from Virgin Mobile. It has Android version 2.2.1 installed. It says HW Version 1.2, SW Version VM670ZV4, Buld Number FRG83, Kernel Version 2.6.32.9, Baseboard Version VM370ZV4_60401001, Model Number VM670
Don't know what else to add but it definately is a LG Optimus 7. It only came out in the last few months with Virgin Mobile. I have a plan with them that is $25 a month for 300 minutes and unlimited text and data.
Pretty good deal compaired to the $81/mo from Verizon for 450 minutes when I only use about 150-200 a month. The unlimited data is the most important to me as I tether it to my notebook a lot.

I'm not the OP but i believe i may be able to answer that. First of all, for someone who has been using Windows mobile, using pim backup or other backup tools it is easy to transfer not just our contacts but also our pms from one WM device to another. For some, it may not be important but for others it is.
Another reason is that in a new WM device we can install the same apps we had in our previous device and learn quite easily how to use it.
Battery life is also a factor. To the best of my knowledge, android uses the battery much faster than WM.
You may ask, since i like WM so much, why do i post in this forum. It is because people who do have android keep telling me how good it is so i'm considering buying ZET Blade as a cheap way to try out android without crying over it if it turns out i don't like it. However, i would like to see the things i mentioned above being seen to

Try it our yourselff... it has so many apps potential development, we switch from the blades software, because it comes with lots of carrier and manufacture bloatware
Well, at least in Greece (where I live) carriers are forbidden to lock the devices to their networks, so they don't bother to put too much bloatware in them either. However, i take it would you suggest another device as a first and cheap android phone? If so, what would it be? And since i'm affraid i have derailed the topic, please pm me your answer, because this is probably off-topic

as i was a hard winmo user with my hd2 i switch it completely to Android and i m happy so far.
For me it is much better than winmo more fast and stable and no need to reboot after install uninstall.
As for the apps there are so many that i can guarantee that most users will say bye bye to winmo...
A quick question if you may, zte blade with an LCD screen and 256 ram (that's the version they have in greece) or samsung galaxy 3 (i5800) at the exact same price, 159 euros ans as far as i can see the same characteristics
They can be unlocked to 512 RAM if you're comfortable with that sort of thing.

Ha-ha-ha! Exactly the same spec! Let's just start with the screen resolution, which is exactly 1/2 of the Blade's.
Right now, there's just no other Android device at a similar price point to match (even the LCD) ZTE Blade specifications

[Q] Why LG E900 Optimus 7 could not work with Android

I do not understand how LG Optimus P920 3D Optimus, Optimus 2X, Optimus Mach LU3000, Black Optimus, Optimus Me P350, Revolution... working on OS Android , LG E900 Optimus7 can not, which is the difference and reason that can not be installed on Android optimus7
No one said it cannot be done. It can probably be done, seeing how all WP7 devices share similar hardware to the HTC Desire-derivative phones. However, the LG Optimus 7 is a Windows Phone, and ships with Windows Phone 7 as its operating system. That is the end of it. All the phones you mentioned from LG come with Android as its operating system. I suggest if you prefer Android to WP7, do not bother with LG Optimus 7.
PS: I tried to answer this as calmly as possibly without breaking my keyboard...
Ok kapanak I am not asked to crush keyboard than you actually did not ask anything, if I want Android and Android will buy, I just wondered if anyone could give me a explanation may which is the difference because I see that some LG phone using Android and I wondered why LG E900 Optimus 7 does not. ate different from the others and uses a different hardware. The LG E900 is the perfect Optimus 7 phone who currently use and we changed it from any other phone.
IMHO I think this is politic of LG and many companies. One phone is with Android other one with WP7. Everybody have a choice. I like Android, I use HTC Desire but bought LG Swift 7 (Optimus 7) to test WP7 and make compare betwen Android and WP7.
LG can assembly the same model of phone to Android and to WP7 but marketing is cruel. More phones will sell with Android neither WP7 (at this moment). And LG will do more phones with AND but there is possible to install WP7.
This is my point of view.
I love my Optimus 7 but it would be great if we had the option to dual boot between WP7 and Android. I wonder when someone finds out how to do it.
Currently there are only 2 phones available that can dual boot different OS's:
1. The Nokia N900 can run Maemo, Android and MeeGo.
2. The HTC HD2 can run WM6.5, Android, WP7 and MeeGo.
The only phone that offers 2 different OS's at the SAME time is the HD2 with WP7 or WP6.5 on Nand and Android on SD as secondary OS.
So if you want such stuff you should go for a HD2.

Why does it have to be either/or? I would like the option to dual boot.
Im always surprised by how much flak this type of question gets on XDA, a forum for hardware hacking and independent software development... Why do i want to flash my phone with android? Because hardware hacking is FUN, and just to say I did it. Not because either android or WP7 is better. If the E900 was an android phone id be interested in flashing it to WP7...
What you fail to grasp is the sheer amount of work required to port Android for a phone that didn't support it in the first place. In the case of WM, it was easy, since XDA members hacked the life out of every one of those phones. There has to be someone willing to spend the time porting Android for this phone. But so far, no one is willing. Of you are up for the challenge, the perhaps you should begin your work, and I am sure once a person begins to show progress, other devs and hackers will follow.
Thanks for being condescending but i fully grasp the amount of work required. Im not asking why its not done, i was simply stating its pretty ridiculous how much people here crap on someone for asking. Do you honestly thing if anyone was actually working on it, this would be the place to show their work? I havent seen a single thread where someone proposed flashing different OS's to a WP7 handset that didnt involve at least one person saying "Dont bother". Its almost like WP7 handsets are sacred here and we shouldnt mess with them too much Strange, considering the idea behind this forum...
It may be due to the fact that for years, people here, and elsewhere, have been spending years customizing their phones OS to make it smoother, faster, more intuitive, and then suddenly, we have this new OS that, despite all its obvious and glaring shortcomings, fullfills that need for "speed", and makes the need for customizations and optimizations less than appealing. ( And iOS doesn't count, that's for a different crowd )

The Problem is not the Hardware (the HD2 uses the same chipset only with lower ram and rom). The problem are the bootloaders. You have to write your own or costumize the original one to allow a 3rd party os. But if somebody know how to extract this files from a lg e900 it would be only a question about some weeks for the first nand android on a lg e900. Because the chipsetdrivers are (theoratically ^^) the same as the HD2 uses.

Better camera, a camera button that does not jolt the camera focus. I'd like to dual boot, cos Android has better third party apps, & more freeware. When I dare upgrade Android, sometimes it puts my phone offline for days, until a solution is found.
I think Android can be ported to Optimus 7 ... there are many Android phones with nearly identical hardware ...
Probably it still needs a minimum effort, so you need to find someone willing to spend his time doing such a thing ...
Btw I think the topic 'how to have windows phone on the possible higher number of devices' is much more interesting than 'how to port Crappoid on our devices'
What I meant to say is : If I was able to, I still would not have spare time for such a 'task'

Android will never come to a Windows Phone. There are alternative apps, just look longer than a second. Don't complain here that there are not enough apps. Buy a cheap Android phone, search for apps or just forget about their existence on other platforms, but don't complain here.

[Q] Planning to buy...

Hi, i have been using WM 6.5 and Android for quite a while (HTC TyTn II and LG Optimus One), i recently decided to try an WP7 phone... so Optimus 7 seems to be a good choice.
I just have one question, how many finger touches does it support?? i cant seem any info regarding this (or any info regarding this on any WP7 phone) other than it simply being listed as 'multi-touch'.
Thanks a lot... and sorry if its a stupid question but i cant seem to find the answer anywhere!!
The screen apparently supports more than 4, but the software is limited to 4 points of contact, and that is what you get with Optimus 7. There are many games in the Marketplace that demonstrate this. I must say, as a Optimus 7 owner, and having tried the other WP7 devices, the Optimus 7 probably has the most ... Optimal touch experience of them all ... HTC ones are far too sensitive.
Screen support up to 10 fingers , I don't have more fingers to try
thanks a lot... guess i will prob go with this phone.. but have to save up for a while..

I bought it unlocked on ebay for 165 euros!
http://cgi.ebay.de/LG-E900-OPTIMUS-...00625220083?pt=DE_Handy_s&hash=item2eb631e9f3
Wow for that price is incredible even in USD it comes to $238.82 according to Google. The best I could find in the ebay us site was in the $400 and $550 range!
Next time I'm hunting for a phone I'll come here and ask for advice.
Also, pachuau86 if you're planning on saving to buy a new phone why don't you wait for the new Nokia Windows Phone 7? They'll kick the ass of any WP7 to date so you better wait and see what the other brands will bring to the table, its all dual core now baby.
Google Nokia windows Phone 7 since I can't posts links yet due to being a noob.
This is my first wp7 phone and it is really good. Solid to hold and very good build quality. WP7 is very good and will get better with mango. If your in the UK try the expansys website i picked mine up from there brand new sim free for £185.
I don't know about any Nokia WP7s as those are rumoured NOT to be released in North America this year or early next year anyways ...
But ... if you are interested in this phone, I have it on good authority that the same body will receive and update, which includes the latest SoC (1-1.2Ghz from what I heard), as well as a front camera and gyroscope, with a better battery life and screen, called the LG E90X (Note that the 'X' refers to a digit between 5-9 depending on location of release) ...
thanks a lot for the replies... will save up and try to get this phone

Bazaar is possible to install, don't know about the other one.
Yes bazaar is possible to install, but downloaded applications cannot since it needs a fully unlocked phone. So far we have only interop-unlock available.
although after custom ROMs for samsung, some for LG would be great.
with new folder and bluetooth app
Up, it would be great!
Just today I heard about a new version of Folders with a lot of new features ONLY for completely unlocked devices, not talking about the new Bluetooth-transfer app! Come on, xda, give us this little gift!!

It's not so strange...Optimus 7 might be value for money, but, LG is not so famous for its phones. HTC and Samsung have made many hits in smartphone market the last years
Also, I hate to admit it, but Optimus 7 is fat, heavy and ugly compared to some other Windows Phone devices.
The worst is that, LG, in many occasions, has let us down with the updates/support. As far as I know, open market e900 devices still haven't got official tethering/hidden wifi support and there are many devices with hardware problems like random reboots etc...my next phone will be a Nokia...they seem to care more about their customers.
Maybe, in the future, we may edit system registry so our device be recognized as htc or nokia. Then we will install a cooked firmware from other like samsung, nokia, htc, then install harret and so on . Cool sci fi.
I'm waiting for the DFT rom for optimus 7 too
My previous mobilephone is samsung Focus ,I had flashed the DFT rom,it is so convience to deploy apps.
