Hey guys
I have been rooted with the Apex 1.4.1 rom for some time now. Recently, I read that the droid X will possibly be getting updated to gingerbread. If this is true, will I have to unroot to receive the update?
Thanks in advance!
-Mike
No you don't have to unroot but you will have to flash back to stock in order to get the update OTA (it will unroot you by updating). You can do so with a nandroid, sbf, or maderstcok. Or you could just update manually when the update is released, assuming that there will be an update soon.

Hi,
I had my droid X rooted and then did accepted the update to 2.2.1 before realizing this would cause issues. I'm now stuck at 2.2.1 and cannot update past that or downgrade or do anything. My phone still things its rooted but doesn't give me super user status. But programs identify it as rooted. I do have droid x bootstrapper on it however being an idiot I did not create a back up. Can anyone give me some guidance on how to fix this? I don't care if it is rooted anymore I'd just like to have it working properly.
thanks in advance for any advice,
Jeff
I'd use rsd lite and sbf using the sbf file for system version .340....check the stickies for guides on how to do that

I SBFed to .340 and can't get the .602 or .605 update. I think as they just started rolling out the 13mb .605 update they suspend the others for bandwidth purposes-my theory at least.

You have to manually remove Superuser.apk from /system/app/ before you can root again.

Droid 2 is what you want I don't know why I just know it works.
Fixing the DX is easy. Read up on sbf if you run into issues.

when you say 'latest gingerbread' do you mean 2.3.5?
i have a rooted x on 2.2.2, and i want to apply the 2.3.5 update, but i am scared that it will break my root, if i understand correctly i can apply the update then adb shell to remove su and superuser then re-root using pete's? is that correct?
i rooted originally with superoneclick 1.9.1
I went through tons of methods trying to root my droid x...

Odd, I haven't come across an unrootable build for the Droid X.
Also, are you sure 2.3.5 is correct the latest version of Gingerbread for a stock Droid X is 2.3.3.

hey thanks for the help bootstrap for the d2 got it working i used petes tools or w/e its called so its rooted and running miui thanks
So I know that the OTA update 2.3.4 (621) made flashing sbfs impossible due to it leading to a bricked phone, but if you use the new root method and successfully root the D2, does it fix this and make it possible to flash sbfs? For those who don't know, this is the new root method.

I don't think I can post links yet so just copy paste that into your search bar, or a higher ranked user post the link.
You can still flash sbfs you just can't downgrade thanks to the new bootloader

you are stuck with 621, and can only flash 621 sbf

If there is ever another update (highly doubt there ever will be) he/she could sbf that one too
