Help with Broken Screen - Streak 5 General

Ok this is the second time my screen has gone on my streak in the last month or so. Its really starting to get under my skin. My screen is totally black. Oddly enough I know I can unlock the screen cause I can feel it, and it still rang for a call and I was able to answer it just knowing where the lock screen was.
My problem is that I am sincerely hoping someone here will help me out with is either some screen shots, or a walk through for factory reset and applying update pkg from the stock Dell Recovery. I know how to get into the recovery and I know that it goes to "apply update pkg" or whatever by default. But, from there I can't remember. So I need to know what comes next, plus the order to apply a factory reset from the recovery screen as well.
I need to reflash the stock Rogers 339 firmware to send it back for warranty.....again. I should have learned from the first time and wrote down the steps, but I didn't.
Any help is sincerely appreciated as I have NO phone until my "new" refurbished streak comes in the mail. That is if I does come thanks to the Postal strike here. Uggghhhhh!

No one has the time to post a couple of simple steps for me. I know I don't always have a lot to contribute to this forum, but I help when I can.
Someone pleeeeaaaaassssseeee help me out here.

What recovery are you using? And the factory reset should just be one up from where it starts.

I need to flash the stock 339 recovery. So I know that I can flash the amss, and recovery with fastboot no problem as it indicates success on the computer screen. Then upon reboot ill hold volume up/down keys to enter the recovery. From what I remember ill need to just hit the camera button right off the hop, then hit it once more to apply update.pkg that ill have on the root of my sd. Beyond that I cannot remember what needs to be done.
I think it reboots itself after the update.pkg is applied. So I guess ill have to restart and go into recovery again, and hit vol up once to get to factory reset. Then press camera button once to select reset, and then again to initiate it??
Does that sound about right to everyone....?

Nexus One in Reboot loop (HELP!)

I just got my Nexus one, but I cant start it it just keep rebooting when the four colord logo appears. I have tried to clear the storage but no luck. Really need som serious help here!
Thanks/ Viiddee
had the same problem. went back to recovery mode and used 'wipe' for all partitions (earlier i had done it only for the first on the list).
reinstalled CM from the SD card and all was well this time.
hope this helps you.
Yes krumbs is right you need to do a wipe upfront flashing the rom.
Without I also had the booting loop.
Maybe therefore in the installation instructions there's the point do a wipe ;-)
Sometimes we should read a little better, to prevent such problems.
Did you flash a rom? Or it's looping out of the box?

it looped out of the box.. and since i am new with android i need some help with this recovery wipe thing!? I got into fastboot mode and found recovery but when i did that i just got the android logo with a ! . And since it was like this out of the box I dont feel like try rooting it..
Oh didn't notice that you wrote that this booting loop is right out of box...
Let them change it, that's what I would do in that case.
yes it was.. the thing is that i live in sweden and it will cost me alot if i have to send it back.. so is there anything eles I can try? If I unlock the bootloader can reverse the unlock so that the warranty still works?
thanks in advance/ V
No, you can't relock the bootloader. Turn off the phone... restart by holding the volume down key. Scroll down to wipe/factory reset and hit power to confirm. Should reboot automatically. If this doesn't work, you have no choice but to get it replaced. HTC normally pays for the shipping... and since this is Dead on Arrival, they shouldn't have a problem sending you a new phone.

Need Help, Black screen no boot.

I am new to the android world, I have a vibrant that I rooted using the update.zip method. Then I went to apply the LAG FIX using the same method from the RyanZA thread. Now all I get is a boot sound and a black screen along with the buttons on the bottom glowing. I have no Idea where to even begin to recover this. I have a mac, any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you in advance!

That's a boot loop. In your case, being new and all, it might be better to re-install the ROM and try again. You might need to give it a while as well, I don't know the details of the zip you used, but it might be copying large amounts of data, which will look like a stall in the boot process.
Get ADB and open a terminal window and do "adb logcat" it should let you know where you are stuck in the boot. Post the log and someone here should be able to help you.
Also, get boot camp and/or Virtualbox going so you can use Odin, which requires Windows. If you mess something up, you can use Odin to get back to a stock setup. Sucks that it requires Windows, but that's just how it is for now.
Oppps mis-read this phone is complete black no noise just heat
Moved your thread to general section.
Had the same problem when I tried to install that FixLag update.zip. Lucky for me, I did an Anroid Backup before I attempt it.
Hold down Vol+ & Vol- and power it up, do a Wipe.. when its done, restart your phone. When its booting up, its gonna act the same without the Tmobile Flash and still missing the Samsung Galaxy S logo. Just wait for your phone to VIBRATE. Then your phone should be working. I dont know what happen in that update.zip but it deleted the Graphic at the beginning when you first boot up your phone. After that I went back and did a Recovery and got everything back too normal.

It worked!! Thank you so much! I am back up and running. No boot screens, however funtional and root maintained. Is there a way to recover the boot screens?
I was just searching through the forums for the answer to the last post in this thread - "is there a way to reinstall the boot animation? Well, is there? Mind, I DO NOT want the horrible tmo portion, just the S.
Thought?

I just did this to my phone like the ones stated above..... Blank screen then vibrate and im in the Android OS and it changed the Audio but still no graphics....... Kinda disapointing but until someone finds hwo to actually finx this I'm stuck.

[Q] Blank Screen

So I just rooted my device and then tried to install a lag fix... when I rebooted my phone after the script, I heard the T-Mobile jingle and then it came to a blank screen. When I pressed the power button there was no response. If I press any of the white keys at the bottom, they just light up. I CAN turn my phone off and go into recovery mode.
This thing has kind of shaken me up so I am willing to go back to an unrooted phone.
PLEASE HELP!
Nandroid, my friend.
Since you are able to boot into recovery, do a nandroid restore.
If you do not have your own nandroid backup There is a thread in the Dev forum you can dowload one from. Just search "[ROM] OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN/Nandroid Backup Images 7/29/10 (Tested/Working)" (I can't hotlink yet. sorry)
This is all assuming you have installed clockwork recovery, which you should have done before you attempted any modding of any sort. Also always remember to create a nandroid of your current system before trying something that is still in beta.
i got same problem here and a don't have clockwork recovery :-(
Then you have to use odin if you don't have clockwork...
My phones have been flashed more than Girls Gone Wild..
[email protected]
I think I found a fix that works...
I just went to recovery mode, and deleted all user data.
I then rebooted and still had a blank screen for about 10 seconds, and then my lock screen came up.
Worked for me! Thanks everyone.

Just wait 10 mins if nothing do a battery pull...boot...wait another 10. It will boot after that. Had same issue on two vibrants.

help stuck at dell logo

i must be missing something i get the dell logo and it dose its changeing couler bit but thats it.followed the upgrade thread from homeiss please help
how do i go back to a working phone
copy the upgrade file to your SD card (use a computer to do this)
make sure the file is called Update.pkg.
press and hold the volume up and volume down keys and power the phone.
when you come to the menu choices, select option 1, and press the camera shutter button.
this will emergency factory reset your phone.
good luck
ty for segestion tried it when was supposed to be 2.2 but no luck but omg i got the 1.6 to work yay
so what steps as in updates do i have to do ie build numbers
also found to get in to fastboot press power buton till you see touch buttons light up then cam buton and hold both works after a lot of swearing lol
now installing build 2.1 8015 with right stock recovery file and it seems to be working fingers crossed lol
got 2.1 in and working but cant get clock work to work any idears?
You get a black screen? If so you have a wrong version of clockwork. Look for the "alt" version of clockwork, should do the trick.

Just wanna add this because I've seen this confuse people before...
After you flash Custom Recovery... your initial load is still the Stock recovery. You still have to select Option 2 from there in order for the CUSTOM Recovery to actually display on your Streak. Otherwise, you're probably where Kohawk says you are.
I suggest using Mistadsman's recovery. Works fine now with 1.4.6.

If you select option 2 and get taken to a black screen - you have the wrong version of clockwork installed. Get this one, flash it via fastboot like you did before and give that a try.
download the recovery.alt.zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754563 and use that instead. Should fix the black screen issue.
it dose not seem to flash just come up with table of stuff no loading recovery stuff in fastboot on pc tryed all clockwork filesi thinck
andriod bootloader cannot start coad 10 in devices ? im well and truly lost now lol

Another "my phone is broken" thread

...but after flashing hundreds of times I've never had this problem before.
Flashed one of intratech's frankenstein roms (GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWKJ3_I9100XEUKH2_I9100XXKI3.tar.md5) and it just stayed on the booting page for seriously more than an hour.
Went back to download mode and flashed the kernel that goes with it (Kernel_I9100XWKJ3.tar.md5) and now I have no recovery mode and no download mode!
I do know how to get into both modes, it just isn't doing it. Instead of going into download or recovery, it just tries to boot as normal, so it's properly stuck.
Not sure Samsung would take kindly to me walking into their service centre with a custom rom etc, what do you reckon?
Try to buy a USB JIG off ebay, plug it in to see if it works

JUST done that actually lemin, thanks.
I guess if that doesn't work I'll have to take it to be fixed.
Wonder what could have gone wrong with the flashing...
Have you tried to remove the battery?

Seems all you needed in the first place is a factory reset from recovery, if the phone is trying to boot, it means the boot partition is intact and you are probably not executing the button combination properly.
Hold Volume up and home, then press power, keep holding the buttons until you are in recovery mode, then do a factory reset and reboot, enjoy your phone
Achilles, you might have thought so, and I wouldn't normally rule out the possibility of me being a dumbass, but really there is no recovery or download mode available. It just doesn't go into either. :-(

You are not being a dumbass, just probably not timing the button presses correctly, if you don't hold those three buttons down until the recovery is actually on the screen, the phone will try to boot normally, talking from experience here
If you are doing this but the phone is still trying to boot normally, then a jig might be the only way to force download mode as you have said that it is trying to boot, so the partitions are intact, a full brick shouldn't boot at all....
Also, I flashed the same ROM, it is not really a custom ROM in the true sense, just a stock ROM with different CSC and MODEM, I really doubt "they" can call that a custom ROM and I doubt they would be able to tell anyway, "it's all stock parts" so long as you didn't flash any custom kernels or anything.
Good Luck.......
Just my humour achilles.
Trust me, as sure as I am about putting one foot in front of the other to walk, I know how to get this baby into download/recovery mode, and it aint playing.
Jig, then service centre it is. Until then, have to use the Galaxy Tab a la Dom Joly.
