I am new to the android world, I have a vibrant that I rooted using the update.zip method. Then I went to apply the LAG FIX using the same method from the RyanZA thread. Now all I get is a boot sound and a black screen along with the buttons on the bottom glowing. I have no Idea where to even begin to recover this. I have a mac, any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you in advance!

That's a boot loop. In your case, being new and all, it might be better to re-install the ROM and try again. You might need to give it a while as well, I don't know the details of the zip you used, but it might be copying large amounts of data, which will look like a stall in the boot process.
Get ADB and open a terminal window and do "adb logcat" it should let you know where you are stuck in the boot. Post the log and someone here should be able to help you.
Also, get boot camp and/or Virtualbox going so you can use Odin, which requires Windows. If you mess something up, you can use Odin to get back to a stock setup. Sucks that it requires Windows, but that's just how it is for now.
Oppps mis-read this phone is complete black no noise just heat
Moved your thread to general section.
Had the same problem when I tried to install that FixLag update.zip. Lucky for me, I did an Anroid Backup before I attempt it.
Hold down Vol+ & Vol- and power it up, do a Wipe.. when its done, restart your phone. When its booting up, its gonna act the same without the Tmobile Flash and still missing the Samsung Galaxy S logo. Just wait for your phone to VIBRATE. Then your phone should be working. I dont know what happen in that update.zip but it deleted the Graphic at the beginning when you first boot up your phone. After that I went back and did a Recovery and got everything back too normal.

It worked!! Thank you so much! I am back up and running. No boot screens, however funtional and root maintained. Is there a way to recover the boot screens?
I was just searching through the forums for the answer to the last post in this thread - "is there a way to reinstall the boot animation? Well, is there? Mind, I DO NOT want the horrible tmo portion, just the S.
Thought?

another app2SD thing after flashing a new rom?
well then you know more then me. If you can get into bootloader you should be able to get into recovery mode. You can also toggle USB mode, so you can be connected to your comp. In that case you can push a recovery image.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611829
you can also wipe
etc
its all in that thread or somewhere else on this forum

Any updates? same thing happened to me.
If in doubt then reflash everything again;
boot
system
and recovery
and start afresh.
see thats the thing,, i can click recovery from the bootloader screen and nothing happens. It will restart and just sit on the same "X" screen. Its very simple to put a phone into a DFU mode or recovery mode for Iphones,Motorolas, blackberry, nokia, samsung,Lg, and a few more i cant think of at the moment. When these phones become corrupt ive learned how to whatever firmware or software i want on dumb thing.. But this HTC is giving me a hard time and i know its something simple.. Most phones have a desktop software that will allow you to mess with phones programming, Itune-iphone/Blackberry-BB desktop Manager/motorola-RSD lite....ect. BUt i cannot find anything really for the HTC or just this N1. A lot of these programs for other brands, once you plug your phone in, will notice that the phone is in a recovery state and offer to do an update or a restore. Now why doesnt the N1 or do they, does google offer something like evryone else does?

The SDK can do that
like the others said, try get into recovery and reflash everything
SDK? i just turned the phone on and its stuck on the "Splash" screen just a big ol "X". I press volume down and power and pull up the bootloader menus.. i scroll down to recovery and press enter. and it reboots and stays at the damn "x" screen again. I've chosen everyone of the options it offers in that menu and nothing changes.. You know how when u first open that menu it will scan the SD card? Well it shows up for a second then goes away, and in the split second the green lettering is on the screen i swear it says "no splash image" or something like that. UHHHHhhhg!
Hmm I forgot how to get to get to recovery using physical buttons, sth like: power + trackball, or volume down + trackball i guess, so try that
So it looks like your phone is not rooted and you don't have Amon_Ra recovery maybe you have not even turned on USB debugger? tough luck friend
All is not lost if you can get into fastboot mode trackball and power together then using adb reflash boot, system and recovery images.
Or call Customer Service and trade in for a new Nexus One
if not you have to download the SDK http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
find stock images and reflash like the above post said

agreed....if you haven't "unlocked" the bootloader then i wouldn't bother with any of the suggestions....Call customer care and get a new one before you un-lock it and this mysteriously happens again...THEN, you'll be S-O-L!!
EDIT: Then with the new one, follow all the threads for un-locking, flashing recovery, nand, flash cyan, flash gapps LALALA
DOUBLE EDIT: Althought it sounds all you've done is messed up the recovery image, which you could re-flash. Then you could get into recovery and flash Cyan, having a functioning phone again
So I just rooted my device and then tried to install a lag fix... when I rebooted my phone after the script, I heard the T-Mobile jingle and then it came to a blank screen. When I pressed the power button there was no response. If I press any of the white keys at the bottom, they just light up. I CAN turn my phone off and go into recovery mode.
This thing has kind of shaken me up so I am willing to go back to an unrooted phone.
PLEASE HELP!
Nandroid, my friend.
Since you are able to boot into recovery, do a nandroid restore.
If you do not have your own nandroid backup There is a thread in the Dev forum you can dowload one from. Just search "[ROM] OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN/Nandroid Backup Images 7/29/10 (Tested/Working)" (I can't hotlink yet. sorry)
This is all assuming you have installed clockwork recovery, which you should have done before you attempted any modding of any sort. Also always remember to create a nandroid of your current system before trying something that is still in beta.
i got same problem here and a don't have clockwork recovery :-(
Then you have to use odin if you don't have clockwork...
My phones have been flashed more than Girls Gone Wild..

I think I found a fix that works...
I just went to recovery mode, and deleted all user data.
I then rebooted and still had a blank screen for about 10 seconds, and then my lock screen came up.
Worked for me! Thanks everyone.

Sorry to resurrect old posts, but I would like to know If after rooting and lag fixing it, it didn't show ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on boot screen and you were only able to hear the sounds and the buttons lit up...
I have a Vibrant on this situation and would like to know I this procedure can fix it.
Best Regards.
Just wait 10 mins if nothing do a battery pull...boot...wait another 10. It will boot after that. Had same issue on two vibrants.

So my Vibrant has been turning off randomly. I think its because of the loose battery or maybe it's just over-heating. But a few days ago, after turning it on there is only a black screen and lit capacitive buttons at the bottom.
It boots up normal, with the vibrant name, t-mobile animation, and the Galaxy S boot animation, then black screen! This started to happen after a few reboots, and now it won't rebbot properly, just black screen. It seems like I have to restore my phone, but the problem is I cannot get the phone into recovery or download mode! Please advise.

First of all, there's no such thing as semi brick, there's brick or not. Try installing your Rom again..
Dan0zone don't be rude man,.backup your apps, enter recovery more delete all user data, if after that you have the same problem restore, or keep trying to enter download mode, try different methods

Do this bro... just tested it myself, works fine...
get adb installed on your computer, should already have it if your rooting but if not get it, youll find it in the stickied thread for informative links in the development section.
get a cmd prompt open on your computer and type in
>adb devices
let it start up deamon and it will tell you device not found, its ok.
now type and have ready...
>adb reboot recovery (do NOT press enter yet)
start your phone like normal. before its even finished with the boot up tmobile animation and the galaxy s (but after the plain vibrant text/picture) logo press enter. if it says error: device not found then wait all the way till galaxy s only you did it too early...
screen will go black and reboot into standard recovery... hope to goodness you had a working clockwork recovery installed and nandroid ready for this next part...
go down using your volume keys and select reinstall packages using the power key
now in clockwork recovery go down to nandroid
now go to restore
go to your earliest back up and restore it.
there you go.
I would start fresh get odin set up and reinstall the original rom at this point as something may still be corrupted, reroot, install latest clockworkmod, latest vibrant 9 rom (im using and see no bugs and runs better then the vibrant 6 rom i had) and DONT install the lag fix until the newest "TRUE" lag fix comes out with the new file system and kernel that JAC is working on and has almost ready.
good luck and pm me if any of these steps need further explanation.

hes just stated man that he cant even get into recovery, my guess is hes locked out using the volume up/down keys like many new phones are (which btw is a known defect, spend 10min on the phone with tmobile doing thier trouble shooting to show them it doesnt work and they send you a replacement..) sooooo I gave him a way to get into recovery without the buttons and not having to wait till he gets to a black screen where possibly its frozen and he cant use adb commands.
I was just making mention to you also that he cant even back stuff up NOW (hopefully he already archived all his apps and data) and hes better off starting fresh since hes getting problems using his current rom/lagfix....
Thanks for the quick reply p()()pypants, but i will have to try your method later. It's late and I have class (college) tomorrow, but i will post my results soon. Thank you again.
Edit 1:
Btw, is there a way to back up my current rom? Like the way rom manager back up roms? I know my current rom works before so that's why I want to back it up.
Edit 2:
Actually i did not use adb to root my phone, just used the one click method. So can you please give me more detailed instructions on how to install/use adb?
Okay, I typed in "adb reboot recovery" and press enter as my phone booted up during the t-mobile animation and at the Galaxy S boot animation. Neither time work. Then I reentered it again after the black screen. That did not work either. CMD keeps on returning "error: device not found" and the phone stays on with the black screen.

Do you have the right drivers installed? You can check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
Another very stupid question, just to cover all bases - your phone is plugged into the computer, correct? When you install the new drivers, try plugging the phone into a different USB port on the computer than you've been using, so it will hopefully pick up the new drivers without much extra effort.
If that doesn't help, just keep trying the command while the phone boots up. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will work. Sorry I don't have any real solution for you :\
I'm fairly sure I have the right drivers, otherwise I wouldn't be able to root in the first place. Yes, the phone is plugged in also. I'll try a different USB port and see what happens...
Update: Trying different USB ports does not help.
I have a Verizon LG G2 I tried to flash my backed up stock recovery with Flashify so I could flash the most recent OTA. After accepting the OTA update my phone restarted, tried to install the update, hung at a black screen but was still turned on. If I power it off and back on it shows the LG logo, some white text, then goes to the same black screen. What appears to be happening is that my backup recovery did not restore properly and it's hanging when it tries to go into recovery. It's almost like my recovery partition is blank.
I've tried to follow the instructions to flash back to stock, but I do not believe I'm actually able to get my phone into download mode. When it is plugged into my windows 7 computer with the LG drivers installed it shows up in device manager as QHSUSB_BULK.
Is there any way for me to push a stock recovery, or even a custom recovery to my phone so I can somehow salvage it, or am I permanently bricked?

Ive looked through a lot too. and its crazy how that would happen i made sure it was rebooting correctly before i took the ota and then when i did the ota bam! only screens i can get to come up are the hardware key control mode and the factory hard reset which both go to white screens after I do them both. every one else probably has not taken the ota.

One difference in what mine is doing and what your phone is doing. I go to a solid black screen not a white screen. It's very hard to tell my phone is even turned on. I'm having to look if the back-light to verify if it's on or not. I can hold my power button for 10 seconds through one LG logo cycle and then it turns off.

I hope someone helps us out. I really cant afford a new one because the warranty is void. I was going back to stock because of all of the little bugs that need to be ironed out in roms. cause kit kat is around the corner hopefully and my problem virtually is the same i might have had my brightness on auto or something prior to that.

Ignore all the message, unplug you phone get ready to type the command, plug it in and immediately press enter to run the command. it took some trial and error, and i had to use this other post to help me out. I actually got fastboot working first, then used this post to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477595 to get download mode working, and to flash twrp recovery. After that i used this post to run the command line from with twrp. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696 . I didn't have to flash the factory tot to my phone, but i have that option now because download mode is working. This process will work, there is hope for you getting your phone back. I'm fully recovered. I decided 12B is not worth it in the mean time, but if you want 12B you need to flash the factory tot and then upgrade. There is a way to root 12B, but as of this time you are unable to get Custom Recovery on it.
Today I was finally able to get my phone rooted, install SafeStrap and get into TouchWiz. Thing is, I dislike TouchWiz so I downloaded CyanogenMod for note 3. I put the CyanogenMod zip in my downloads folder on my Note 3. I went into safestrap, clicked install, found the .zip and swiped to flash. After that finished I clicked reboot and I got black screened. I then took the battery out and then the **** hit the fan. I booted the device and the SafeStrap splash screen came up along with the stock bootloader android bot image and my screen was displaying all of these colors and tripping acid. I now have taken the battery out and am hoping I can save my device. For some information on the device, It's a Galaxy Note 3 on Verizon running 4.4.2 rooted. I cant even get into ODIN mode... I've been getting tons of views and no reply's so that's leading me to believe it's something major. If it is please don't be afraid to respond and if you need a clearer explanation please PM me so I can get this fixed. I need my phone for work and I picked a really bad time to start tinkering with my phone haha. Thank you so much for reading! :cyclops:
No sure but it sounds like you hard bricked your device ( no acces to download/odin mode or recovery).
"my screen was displaying all of these colors and tripping acid" sounds like a display error.
Put in the battery and keep trying to acces odin mode if the screen is working ( Hold power + home button + volume down) .

What should I do if that doesn't work? I've tried a few times already but I'll keep going at it. The screen has now shifted from "Tripping acid" to a white fuzzyish screen that shows the SafeStrap splashscreen kind of outlined.
Have you tried to boot into recovery? That is assuming you have a backup saved.
Put battery in...hold down power, volume up and home key...when you see Samsung logo let go of the power key only...hopefully it might boot into recovery. Just one idea...

OMG I GOT INTO RECOVERY!! I did make a back up but I did it in SafeStrap. It dropped me in the default BootLoader with a dead android with its chest opened up. Idk if this means something haha.
If it won't let you load the backup, you might could use kies software on a desktop or notebook to recover you device back to stock. Just another idea. Sometimes with enough persistence you can recover a semi bricked device. I sure hope you get it going. A messed up phone will make you pull your hair out....

If it won't let you load the backup, you might could use kies software on a desktop or notebook to recover you device back to stock. Just another idea. Sometimes with enough persistence you can recover a semi bricked device. I sure hope you get it going. A messed up phone will make you pull your hair out....

When I plug the phone in, Kies isn't recognizing it... Thoughts?

have you tried to boot in to bootloader? Take battery out and press Vol down + home button then power button. If you get in there you can use odin 99% to flash an other rom or stock firmware

:cyclops:

You must clarify if you can get into download (Odin) mode:
- if you can not there is some major flash corruption going on, not much you can do
- if you can get into download mode you need to write your stock ROM.
