After using my girlfriends shift yesterday I've decided that its a really awesome phone. The build quality is nice and the keyboard is good. I like it so much that im tempted to trade my evo 4g for one. What do you shift users think about such a trade....I know id be giving up that glorious screen real estate, but I think I need a keyboard.
Opinions?

Drop the mini tablet and grab the Shift... It's a really solid device.

I love my shift I really do its battery life kills the evo, its smoother and faster than the evo too the only thing I miss is that huge screen! But the shift is so solid I don't think I could go back just because of a screen size
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Have used and owned both. I like the Shift much better. Smoother and faster. Also, not nearly as bulky. EVO 4G has a nice screen. But other than that the Shift is the winner hands down.
See that's what i was thinking. I dont watch movies on my phone, although the large screen makes it easier to read things, I had a hero before and it was hell on many eyes.

Thanks for the input folks, I've decided that i want a shift, ( was leaning that way anyhow) so I posted my evo in the marketplace... hope to be flashing here soon.

Know what you mean, once in a while it's ok to watch a flic on the Shift. Like if your waiting for long time somewhere. Screen has nice res. But with me the deal clincher is the physical keyboard. It's just a lot easier. I Txt and Email a ton. It's a lot easier on the Shift than on the EVO 4G.

It will. Once you get used to it you can fly. Type faster on my phone, with less mistakes than on my laptop/PC
one of the main reasons that I like the physical keyboard is because it doesn't have spelling correction

I came from an Evo, purchased on release day (June 6, 2010).
I bought the shift for the 2nd gen snapdragon, and the screen colors (262K vs 65K for the evo). I also wanted something a little smaller. But I wish the screen was a tad bigger (3.8" would be perfect). But, after using it for a week, it just runs so much smoother than my old Evo. I've used the keyboard just a few times, and I'm not a huge fan of it, but I've been so accustomed to on screen keyboards only (hero, evo), that I don't even think about the physical qwerty.
I only wanted the keyboard for games and emulators, which I love it for. Also one of the reasons I chose this phone over the epic, as the little d pad is much easier for that than the arrow keys

I got tired of the bulk of the G2, and I hardly ever used the keyboard. Swype deprecated it.
I am much happier now.

when I saw leaked pics of the G2, I was like this is gonna be my new phone. Then I checked it out in person and was turned off by its bulk and clumsy hinge. It didn't feel smooth sliding out the keyboard..had to use 2 hands instead of 1. Anyways, good thing I waited for the Nexus and I love it! So my answer is YES.
Absolutely. You get true stock and a much faster and sleeker device. I thought about the G2 when moving to T-Mobile. So glad I got my Nexus S .

This here. I had random signal loss a lot.
Dude definitely get the nexus s. If you want a new experience.
I would say as long as you have an android phone, n not an iphone your golden,
Personally, I have my G2 running CyanogenMod 6.1.1 with setcpu (overclocked when battery full to 1ghz and as the battery gets lower, I have it slowly clock down), and juicesaver (this kills having data on when the screen is off but it still alows googlevoicetexts to come through etc.) Also, memory AND battery expansions make this a good solid phone.
I also have the MT4G modded n such.
BUT,***** the nexus s is very sleek, the best samsung has put out so far imo. It has a fast proccesor, nfc, amoled, and gingerbread, off the batt to startt with, if you mod it, it just gets better.
Get and use what makes you happy, but just don't bite the apple. If you have had your G2 long enougj and want a new experience and get a good sale on your G2, go for it.
5stars

T-Mobile doesn't care if you change your phone when you're in a 2year contract with a phone. You just don't get the 2-year discount.
It'll take a few days to get used to using a virtual keyboard than a physical but once you get used to it. You'll feel that physical keyboards are just a waste of space.

I started my android ownership with a G1 because it was cheap, and there was a ton I could do to a $80 phone.
Before that I had an HTC Diamond for cost and "crap to play with" factor.
The Touch Pro just turned me off for it's bulk and subjective feel.
The G1 had some of the same issues, but I knew if this experiment worked I'd go for the Nexus S.
In between getting the G1, and later buying a Nexus S, I just found too much of the lingering turnoffs about the Touch Pro/G1 when I checked out the G2 as a cheaper alternative to the 2x cost Nexus S.
A guy I work with can't stand bar phones and what I like about the nexus S in general. He's always liked his TP2, G1, blackberries, Droid pos with keyboard.
Find a "good" Nexus S and just be happy, if that's what you subjectively "like".
I came from the EVO to epic so im very familiar with evos style and how its handles as a smartphone but damn that EVO 3D looks very temping to go back.. and just in time for my yearly upgrade in july when it looks to be dropping i might just go plung for it and do like i do all my other phones including the epic and EBAY It...

then comes to question am i willing to go without a keyboard again.. ill have to look deeper into the display once it does hit the store.
I've been buying AMOLED devices since 2008.
No AMOLED, no purchase.
definitely keeping the epic. it does everything and more I could possibly want from a phone. I'm not really buying into this whole 3d thing yet either.
It all depends on how good the screen & display looks.

The epic is the best smartphone they have right now. I do not consider a phone without a keyboard a smartphone. I can't stand when someone hands me a phone to type a message...setup some things etc...when it is a virtual keyboard.
Nothing to see here, move along. I'm keeping my Epic
I wonder how the 1.2 dual core does in quadrant scores and linpacks ............ lol with the extra boost of ram, thats what my main eyes on.. its a evo supercharged and i did miss my evo so i would love to see how it is.. samsung to me been a **** up, developers shouldnt work so hard to do what they shoulda had done right from first go around and im an all time htc fan...i love their quality hardware, never had a problem with em.. keyboard i will miss but, i can type better on glass than on samsungs skipped keyboard.... *even with the patches* :/

Absolutely NO! Did you all see what happened to the Evo Shift? That thing benchedmark looooowwwww! And not to mention the down grade on the screen. Really? Htc, your doing it wrong.
And if the 3d looks like the nds, shot yourself in the nuts.

I can't stand the Epic. Ideally, I'd go back to iOS but Sprint doesn't have an Iphone. Anyhow, the answer is no. I'll probably get an EVO 3D.
Evo 3d or nexus s?
I'm gonna give my GD my evolution running synergy n gonna get a new phone but I'm in between the nexus s 4g n the evo 3d. Which do u prefer? Obviously the community is important to me as I'd like to root n flash custom rom's. So help me out?

Looks like the Evo 3D will be getting unlocked by early September.
The Evo has the dual core and more ram, as well as a dedicated camera button. The Nexus is made by Samsung so the plasticyness might be a turn off. The Evo has HDMI out and the Nexus S does not. The screen on the Nexus S is supposed to be easier to see in sunlight, and it has that cool curve to the body.
I went with an Evo 4G over the Nexus, so I would personally choose the 3D here.
Considering the fact the the Evo 3D will have as much support, if not more, than the Nexus S and in the raw specs race the Evo 3D wins.
I think the answer is: Evo 3D when it's unlocked.
Roll to the 3D you will love it
I'm leaning to the evo. But I'm so impatient n i want rooooooot

Keep the Evo until the 3D is unlocked then.
i have the nexus and returned the 3d.
It what you prefer really. The nexus Development is nothing compared to the evo's devs.
nexus maybe has like 7 roms. its really between MIUI, Cyanogen and stock roms that are tweaked.
Nexus is wayyyyyyyyy fast then both the htc evo and 3d. i mean crazy fast... and i shouldnt really bash the dev for nexus because they do great jobs on the kernels.
Best kernel i have ever used in my life. i can tell instantly how much juice my phone is saving.
Some people pick on the nexus because its samsung made but i love the light feel look, and the curvy sides fit perfectly in my hands. This is a plus for me cause the evo was a gigantic phone. the nexus i have no problems reaching from corner to corner with my thumbs.
Pretty much phone wise because of speed and HOW EASY IT IS TO ROOT( no more then 10 mins and very very very simple) i choose the nexus.
But once the 3d gets root it probably will be a treat, but im like u and wasn't patient and i don't regret it lol
Hey new to the xda forums just made a account been wondering whether to get a EVO 3d back but want some honest opnions whether its really that much better than the og EVO or is it just the wow factor

This isn't really a cut and dry answer. You have some people that say they'd rather have the OG Evo and you have some who say the 3D Evo is all that and they are only going forward. I messed with a co-workers and I liked the processing power and more memory. The 3d was cool but I can see it wearing off after a while. I'm taking the plunge on just processing power and memory alone but that's just me. Check out the EVO 3D section, read up and make an informed choice.
Yea thats what drew it to me to that dual core processor would wamna see how fast that bad boy can really go after a root and custom kernel but yea ill go by those threads and take a look thanks

to answer the main question, i wouldnt go for the E3D. while it is approx. 2x as fast as the OG evo, with rooted roms, the performance is not bad at all. it can totally handle all your social media, many games and such. i dont really see the noticeable benefit between the 3d and the og. thus, i have a OG evo.

The non removable battery isn't a deal breaker believe it or not! Just look at most tablets........they got a set combo that you can press if you get stuck in a bootloop or whatever
I would go with the one x if I was on At&t BUT that's just me.............shop around that's my advice to you dude! At the end of the day, we're not the ones that are going to be stuck with that phone....is YOU! I could tell you get this, get that BUT you got to like it........everything else is a matter of opinion!
GOOD LUCK!!
Awesome thanks for the fast responses. And that was my big worry with the removable battery that I wouldn't have any option if I got in a boot loop or a rom acts funny and I need to hard reset. If there is a hard reset feature then I think I'm sold. But I'm still not sure lol.

I got an evo when they first came out and have flashed everything to it. My HTC EVO 4G(I love saying it) has been an incredible phone but I recently upgraded to a Galaxy Note and I Love it. Its huge just like the evo used to be huge but I am used to it now and all phones feel tiny. The pen believe it or not is actually pretty useful, its fun to draw with but I also take a lot of notes and it has helped me out immensely with my business.
Yes its a tad slower than the htc one x and I do miss sense, but I need me an ext sd and removable battery. If i didn't like options i'd get an iphone. whats up with that HTC? that's seriously the reason I went with the Note.
but I recently bricked/semi bricked/softbricked my Note upgrading to ICS and that sucked but I fixed it and finally got the new official ICS and cannot be happier. I installed nova launcher over crapwiz and now im in heaven.

I heard that too, but I dont think mine feels cheap at all the build quality is good and the parts on the inside dont feel too quick. Sometimes i cant believe how much faster it is than my EVO. I am able to run anything like grand theft auto really smooth. I do have the international version which is faster that the ATT version so that kinda suck for the OP.
and the new evo doesnt have that feel of being or having something that no other phone has. When the OG Evo came out it was one of a kind nothing could compare to it. The Note is the only phone that really stands out to me, More than the Galaxy s3 since its a bit similar to the htc one x.
Thats just me though, I like big phones. and i cant stress this enough that you do get used to the size unless you have small hands but my 8 years old niece can use it just fine.
i left to AT&T for the galaxy note - if you have LTE in your area it is SICK!
