Well, a brick is a brick, and since you've voided your warranty, you sell it as is on eBay to recover costs (while stating condition/for parts) and get another.
Sorry for my poor English, hope you'll understand.
I flashed my HD2 a lot and never got any problem even there was time I flashed a Desire NAND rom (I mean it's for the REAL Desire, not a based-ROM for HD2). As long as you can boot into CWM recovery I don't think your device will die easily.
Yesterday I bought my TF, happy but not enough so I rooted and flashed the custom ROM. First I only had a 128MB microSD and I made a mistake: I flashed the patch (US->WW) before flashing ROM. It stucked at the Eee Pad screen. OMG, but I know I still haven't bricked my TF.
A TF ROM is ~200MB, not fit my 128MB SD so I had to run in the rain to my friend's house and borrowed his 4GB SD.
And now, I'm running the 3.1 Custom Rom, it's smooth, fast (althought not the as fast fast thunder flash ).
BUT, please THINK TWICE before you do the FLASHING. Know what you do, and don't blame anyone for that if you brick your device
honestly one would have to pretty hard to totally brick one of these.
depends on if you can get the prompt to get in to recovery. If you can't then you're boned, if you can, then you're not bricked.
another misuse of the word "bricked"

Okay I messed up I rooted my phone and updated it, and I tried to take a chance to put the hero rom on my phone, and now it's stuck on the install icon. I take the battery out and try to access recovery mode and it won't get off that screen.
What happened? I was wondering if someone would help me out here. Please.
What is the "install icon"? Your post doesn't make sense... can you describe what you're seeing?
Also, can you enter bootloader by holding down the camera button while powering up?
it's a box with a phone next to it. and no it won't let me enter bootloader. the same stuff came on.

If you can't enter bootloader or recovery, then you're definitely bricked. However, simply trying to flash a Hero ROM wouldn't do that. Did you flash the new radio and SPL?
I don't understand why newbs insist on flashing straight to a Hero ROM once they've rooted... you HAVE to update to a regular ROM first in order to flash an upgraded recovery, then flash radio, then SPL, then Hero ROM.
It was totally a noob move. I'm new to this whole thing and saw this youtube video of this guy running android and hero 2.0.1 on his g1 and like wanted it so bad and now I'm paying for it cause my phone is slammed stuck.
The Hero rom actually didn't do it, it was the radio update that was given with the hero rom that did it.
What Hero ROM did you use? Can you post a link? If you had flashed the SPL already, then flashed the updated radio afterwards, then yeah.. that would do it.

Yea thats what I did. Son of a *****, I knew I should of just waited until T-Mobile released 2.0 for the G1, but NO I had to "HAVE" it. ****!
That sucks man... did you buy your phone from T-mobile recently? If so, you could get it exchanged by telling them that there was some update, and then afterward it just gets stuck at that screen.
naw i got it about eight monthes ago. i bought two, one for me and one for my girl.
If you bought it brand new 8 months ago, it should still be under warranty. Call T-mobile if you ordered it online or over the phone, or take it back to the store if you bought it from there. They'll replace it for you.
Just don't tell them what you were doing... play dumb and act like you don't know what happened. Tell them there was some message about an update and you hit ok, then when it rebooted it got stuck.

Thats a actual hero rom for the Hero phone, you needed the ported one for the G1 / Dream.
I know its no help now the damage is done, but once you get the phone sorted.
As others have said just act dumb with tmobile and you should get it replaced.

Just flash a donut ROM after you root the replacement. Dwang's is a good choice, as it includes Terminal Emulator, which comes in handy to flash to an updated Recovery. I recommend Amon_RA's latest v1.5.2. Once you have flashed the updated recovery, THEN you should flash the updated Radio, THEN the Danger SPL. Follow the directions in my sig for flashing the Radio and SPL. Then you'll have to flash Dwang's ROM again, since the SPL flash will throw your phone into a bootloop. Just don't freak out. Make sure you read the tutorials and ask us questions if anything's unclear.

im still waiting for an easier method to flash CWR, so in the mean time I'm reading the thread daily maybe ill get enough courage and do it. I have flashed my old G1, N1, mytouch3g but the process for the iconia scares me a bit when I see there's a posability of bricking the device.
Great job to the devs getting this far and ill continue to patiently wait and thank you guys for all the hard work

same here, i flashed custom roms on my G1 and desire over a 100 times. But as long as there is not a user friendly way to get clockwork recovery on the a500 im staying far away from this.

if you upgraded to the ota and decided to rsd lite / sbf flash back to 2.2 then you are hardbricked. try to see if you can boot into fastboot by turning the power on while holding volume down.
okay do not see it immediately turns off the phone menu
Sorry to say I and into this issue last night, you hard bricked your phone and to my knowledge and a few hours of trying last night are pardon my french but your screwed. I had to get another Atrix since mine wouldn't boot into a fast boot mode.

So far the only known way is to play a fool and call warranty telling a lovely story that u were updating ur phone (OTA of course) then something went wrong in the middle of the process then... BOOM... ask for a replacement.
PPL must read mainly the RED lines... there are tons of ppl bricking their phone trying to use RSD to downgrade... RSD MUST BE UNINSTALLED from your machine so you will not put ur phone in dungerous situations....
RSD should be never used... it is a tool from Motorola and regular users shoudnt mess with it.
That, my dear comrade, would be known as a Hard Brick.
A thoroughly baked brick.
i dont understand why the situation would even arise where so many people are wanting to downgrade. once upgraded to 2.3.4, wouldnt you want to stay there at all costs? i thought the update was a pretty good one from moto this time.
why are so many people going back to froyo in the first place?

I think so many people have become used to flashing back on 4.1.26/4.1.57/4.1.83 that they maybe think they need to go back and do a clean install or something. The OTA shouldn't work on a modded phone, but maybe some people just think it's normal. We have been spoiled with what the devs have given us previously, and lots of people don't read I guess. Too excited to upgrade and flash and update and flash.......

Hmmm yeah!! There is this Kernel, no matter how you flash it, there is something inherent that would corrupt the flash drive, a rare instance where you have Download mode and recovery working but you cannot do a thing to restore your phone. Things happen, you know?
Only time mine has ever soft bricked has been on those few occasions when I have tried ICS and then tried returning to GB. There is always a way to get through a problem I think. Although I understand that there was a hard bricking episode recently with ICS on the note.
Luckily I was busy when that happened otherwise I'd have bricked mine.... No doubt
Sent from my GT-N7000
Oh yes, I soft brick my Note alright.. just yesterday... while I tried to flash to CheckRom RevoHD v6.... (had a v5 already installed)....
It would just stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 Logo....
Restored it back using PC Odin
Personally, I don't think it has something to do on not reading properly the instruction on flashing.... I read it to a tee mind you.. yet the instructions presented have some gaps and loopholes that if the user isn't aware of it... most likely it would end up bricking their note as well...
Anyway, as the famous lines say 'That which can't kill you, makes you stronger...', I will continue flashing to whatever Custom Rom I want and I welcome the challenge of encountering the famous 'Bricking' again...
let's get it on!
@prem1
I think your poll option better fit in this option
It was issue with specific ROM n Kernel
isn't?

Only time I bricked my phone was while deodexing. 'CP' command was not working, then I did not know about 'BUSYBOX CP' command. So I copied and pasted all deodexed apps and framework files using Root Explorer and dang! It was bricked =)).
If every newbie follows DrKetan's guide carefully there're 0% chances of ending up with bricked phone.
Trust the guide - make your mind.
Yesterday i think i soft bricked my Note. I tried to put pre rooted LC1 via *Odin 1.85 but it went wrong. Was stuck in factoryfs part. I pulled it off the cable.
It did only boot to recovery screen or download mode, so i just downloaded the stock rom LC1 and got it back online!

I don't know if the emmc/mainboard got fried recently by flash/using the monster kernel/touch cwm whatever belongs to a brick, if it is, it's not impossible to brick the note, even you are an experienced user. Anyway, there's a risk on flashing, so be 100% careful.

To obtain root use kingo root google it. Then its simple to install twrp latest ofcourse with terminal emulator. I did mine at 330 am after trying for weeks with no luck on other methods . Worked like a charm. Remember follow Op in rom thread you wish to flash afterwards. Im just a user sharing.

Finally! I have root. Thanks!
Now, the question is, can you flash recovery and then ROM while only having root and locked bootloader using for example Flashyfi? Or, I'm thinking about Xposed, but the thing is, I don't really think that would help that much, as everybody who has this device knows, that the internal flash is slow so much that even floppy drive would have been faster, so you need to store rom/app/data on external sd if you want to have somewhat fast device. But that obviously isn't possible with stock rom, right..?
Otherwise i guess I might just unlock because, after like year or so, the stock ROM gets very very slow and laggy and it makes me mad, as for this expensive device, I would like to use it and don't just wait all the time for things to happen.
Trust me stock is slow even with 90% free memory. I unlocked from day one. Once yoh unlock you can use the method j stated in op. Youll be happy my tab is way faster plus im oc'd

You will need to unlock your bootloader to install any custom ROMs, kernels, or recoveries, even if you have root. xposed is probably your best option for tweaking.

Exactly.. I mean like... I understand that they need a way how to protect their devices from people who don't know what they're doing, which usually results in bricking devices and excpecting that manufacture will repair it for free. What I don't understand, is why they're claiming my warranty is gone. As for example, if screen or keyboard stops working it's clearly not SW issue (or most likely). The only good thing about this is that since I'm living in EU, if I get HW issue, they have to repair it even if it's unlocked, because of law. Can you rely on it? That's the question.
Anyway, now I'm running custom ROM and it's really something else.
