Hey guys
Just a quick yes/no answer
I have a HTC HERO gsm... its running with the newest HTC update...
To root I shall do this right? :
1. Universal Androot -> root device
2. ROM manager -> Flash ClockworkMod Recovery...
3. Download a ROM (suggestions ?)
4. ROM manager -> Install ROM from SDCard
Done ??

I'll try this ROM
Floyo 1.1.8
but the rest ?..
Floyo is great! FroydVillain is also good (but imo a little bit bloated). You could always try piecing your own device together from great pieces of work created by various people around XDA (this tends to be what the ROM packagers do, but they put them together in nice neat packages that do a lot of the work for you).
However, for a first rom, Floyo is a great choice!
Zeb
and the rest i listed is correctly ?
And one more question...
Will this rom install wipe my SD-Card ???
No, but if you choose to wipe SD Card Or EXT- Partition than it will !
Okay thanks
Then I'll properly have a rooted hero with android 2.2 at the end of this day
First time Boot
I have rooted now...
How long time should the FLOYO boot screen be there ?
its just goes round and round... and then blink some times...
is this normal ???

Yea, this can take a very long time. Leave it, but if it takes longer than about 30 minutes then I would pull the battery and reboot.
thanks.
How do I boot into recovery if I need that ?
When powering on the phone, push and hold the Power and Home buttons until recovery boots.
Okay, thanks againg

just Wipe everything .. its okay if you dont wipe App2sd Because you going from 1.1.8 to 1.1.9 but its good to wipe everything .. because it affects your ROM & Speed
Hello, its my first time of rooting and installing a custom rom.
I have followed what B4Me has done as far as
1. Universal Androot -> root device
2. ROM manager -> Flash ClockworkMod Recovery...
Ive then used rom manager to partition my sd card
512mb ext size
and 32mb swap size.
Im planning on following Zebwen guide
The Perfect Hero Setup (How to set up your Hero with granular control)
Once ive downloaded all the parts what part of the SD card do i put them in?
When i mount the phone to the computer and open the sd card i have a one folder called rosie_scroll.
And then can i use Rom manager to flash and install the new rom?
Oh and whats the easiest way to completely wipe the phone?
cheers for any help, or a point in the right direction.

If you are using clockwork recovery you can put the zip files anywhere you want on the SD card. I have a folder named roms and I place them all in there.
You can wipe the device through recovery also. When people say "full wipe" they mean to wipe nand, battery stats, rotation, ext... basically all of the wipe options. This will leave your phone with only the recovery mate on it and it will leave the storage area of your SD card intact too.
Once you have done all of this you can go ahead and flash the roms as outlined in the other thread.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
then put new rom on sd-card (ex. Floyo 1.1.8.zip)
turn phone off
turn phone on WHILE holding down the HOME button, till a recovery screens appers.
in here, select first wipe all
then install .zip from sd-card
select the rom (ex. Floyo 1.1.8.zip)
it will then flash, and then you just WAIT and WAIT...
if like mine nothing happens after 40min
pull the battery, and restart the phone, DONT flash again.. just reboot it...
then It should start up after some tries
Spot on, thanks very much for the help.
Is it also advisable to do a nandroid backup?
Or is that not needed with me using the flash clockworkmod recovery in ROM Manager?

but didnt need it
Hi, I just did the same thing as clobberknocker but floyo just seems to keep spinning on screen! I pulled the battery and tried to boot again but it wont boot up. What should I do? Just let it keep going? Thanks.
Hi alls,
The last 3 days are revolution of HD2 users because we could now enjoy a native android. I've tried a lot of NAND builds (Stock Desire, CM6.1, Jaws24.12, Desire HD, and Nexus Froyo) and I found my most suitable one (Nexus Froyo ), last day. But today, wow, a lot of new builds have been published (MDJ HD Rev, MDJ Rev, Jaws31.12, HD2ONE etc...). I still want to try flashing all of these builds. The problem is all my current data will be erased. I would like to find a solution of NAND back up and restore.
I've searched the forums and found some topics about Nandroid, but still don't know if it works with HD2/Magldr or not ? It is also required to flash recovery.img and so far I cannot figure how to do that (with Magldr !?).
It's appreciated if you could share your understanding.
Thank you very much & Happy New Year
why not just use a standard android backup tool like titanium backup?
TBH google, android market, SMS backup and HTCsense.com seem to have me covered and I've gone through several NAND builds.
I just leave android market in the background and it starts to download all my apps I had installed on my RAM/SD builds.
Although - perhaps you could save all the data you need from ADB and android commander???
Well, I'm thinking about "one-stop-shopping" solution that we could flash back current Nand image
For any rooted device all you need is nandroid backup to write the file to SD card - then in recovery mode you can restore the old image.
How does Nandroid work...I've used it before, but it was built into my Nexus...

Have you ever use Nandroid with HD2 - AD NAND Build ?
How could you enter recovery mode ?
Devs are working on recovery mode as we speak. Cotulla and another dude were already working on it today on irc
Great to hear! I was looking for the same thing...a NAND backup that's easy to backup and recover like what I had on my MT3G before. =) Much thanks to all the hard-working devs making it happen!

Oh great to hear that
Thank you very much,
I haven't tried a app backup/restore, but try super manager on market. It has options to do that as well as app to SD, a root explorer, and a task killer. After that all you need is sms backup and you're covered.

Any news on nandroid or other recovery option? Will it work to back up windows 6.5 and flash it back just like nandroid? What's the best way to back up complete 6.5? Don't want to go stock in case I'm unhappy with nand android.
I was using Android on the phone and I decided to upgrade Android to a better version of Android lol. My android is gone and I am stuck in MAGLDR..I tried to copy android and CWR to sd card and boot it in MAGLDR but nothing happens.
Is my phone forever like this now? or is there a way?
Appreciate your help! thanks

I'v got exactly the same problem.
After deleting the ''old'' android and updating MAGLDR from 1.11 to 1.13 it just wont run CWM...
So i'm running stock ROM right now, Sucks!
did you install the new CWM?
Yes i did !
because magldr 1.13 and the latest cwm now work differently.
old way - cwm on sd card - magldr option 2 'boot ad sd' started cwm.
new way -
flash magldr 1.13
get new cwm, and flash it, , it now flashes to the nand, and doesnt require anything on sd to run, just the new partition layout.
Then, magldr - option 8 AD recovery starts cwm.
1. Reflash Radio .. I recommend the 2.15.50.14 Radio If you have a T-Mobile 1024
2. TASK29 Phone .. this will Clear / Erase The Rom
3. Reflash MAGLDR And ClockworkMod Recovery in that order! ( Get Files From Link! )
4. FORMAT SD CARD! FULL WIPE and FORMAT .. I use Panasonic SD Formatter
5. COPY Android Rom ZIP USING SD CARD READER! .. If you dont have one BUY One!
Do Not Use MAGLDR And ClockworkMod Recovery to Copy Rom Zip To SD CARD!
IF AFTER YOU HAVE DONE ALL OF THIS AND IT STILL FAILS .. TRY A NEW SD CARD!
I Have Seen Many Times Its a Bad SD Card!
All Programs & Everything you need is in this thread!

Thanks man, You knew exactly what was wrong. I had to install hspl from bootloader and then radio. From there, I got MAGDLR 1.13, usb storage mass, copied CWR and Nand. Thanks so much!
replacing sd card worked for me
I was going though the steps to set up dual boot for android and wm 6.5. I haven't put an android version on it yet, but I can't get it to go into wm 6.5 to do it later. Please help to get to wm 6.5 Please can't use phone.

Hi,
I have troubles with my HTC HD2.
Im trying to install this version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933951
(25.May.11][MAG/cLK]TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.3.3[2.3.4][A2SD][tytung r10]
This is my installation step by step.. So...
- Install HSPL 2.08
- Task29
- Radio
- Magldr 1.13
- CWM (3.0.2.5) 150MB
-partition SD Card 1024 and 0
-ext-sd format
- installation of the ROM
- fix permissions
- reboot
And my Android stuck at GO GO GO screen. I dont know what I have done badly, because if I use CWM 3.2.0.0 Android boots nicely, but I hear RoboVoice when I try to call. On the other hand if I try to install the old version of Android via CWM 3.0.2.5 everythink works. I mean the same version of Android but 3.0.6. - no RoboVoice, no bugs with falling applications.
I want to have updated system, but it is impossible for me and I dont know why.
So what is the problem?
thank you
Some details:
SD Card Kingston 8GB class 4
Windows 7 64-bit
maybe this will help ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945427
Yes, thank you.
But I think the problem is somewhere else. I really keep tutorials and manuals. The problem must be at version of Android. One big different between new and old version is AD Recovery CWM. For old it is for example 135MB, for new version it is 150MB. So I use 150MB as they write at thier thread and it is still not working.
If I use 3.2.0.0, Android(3.3.3) boots, but with bugs.. RoboVoice and so on..
If I use 3.0.2.5, Android freezes at GO GO GO.
Hey,double-confirm if u ain't flashing a CLK build as MAGLDR?
Try using this CWM flasher...it contains version 3.0.2.8...All u have to do is connect phone 2 pc in usb flasher mode (MAGLDR), run the setup.exe as admin, select 150MB partition, flash away...
Alternatively u can just copy out the recovery-raw.img file out and use it 2 replace the recovery-raw.img in the official 3.0.2.5 folder which was recommended in the ROM thread and flash away...
P.S. Try both methods first (performing a task29 each time) and if it still doesn't help then its best to seek help in the ROM's thread...Get help from its users.
MAGLDR of course
Ill try CWM 3.0.2.8. Thank You

First of all are you using cLK or MGLDR?
For robo voice, it is only on the first call, just reboot, call anyone or any number and just hit end call.
If you have GO GO GO screen, you are using MGLDR, so why are you repartitioning your ROM? The MGLDR, already comes with its own partition built in, no need to change anything.
Im using MAGLDR, not cLK.
Ill try your tips, so wait for my report
And what about falling applications?
I click on Internet application or Facebook app. Maybe 3 seconds it works then falls to Home Screen. Thank You
I have used CWM 3028. The problem with RoboVoice is resolved.
However, I have troubles with applications. Internet, Facebook etc.... still falling when I click on them. But at version 3.0.6 everthing works OK.
I dont know why ..
I tried everything
Someone please help me!! Before all i problems my phone kept freezing in boot and i tried everything by cleaning my sd, ad hard reset and changing builds and the same boot freeze kept happening. So after getting tired of that and having to hard reset everyday i eventually flashed TMOUS stock rom then after tried to do the magldr 113 isntall. I got magldr installed on my phone and then i choose the ad recovery. When i do i get this message "no boot source". I tried looking up on these forums and can't find anything to fix my problems. Someone please help me with a step-by-step guide. I don't want to own an hd2 running the crummy wm6.5 :/ I NEED ANDROID
download hd2 toolkit. afterward install magldr update recovery, follow the prompts to install and your done. in a nutshell...you were missing clockwork recovery. let me know if this helps

do this...depending on the recommended recovery size (typically 5-150-5 for non sense versions) download a recovery from here ..then restart you phone...go into magldr...go to flasher...once the usb is linked to pc run daf.exe from the recovery (extracted folder)...u will then have recovery installed

Great ! I will try it out as well. I have been getting this error for the last few times. I am not sure why this happened.
I installed a WP7 rom and then went back to android (hopeless battery drain with my SD card ... not sure if I can ever do something about that). I could not get back to AD recovery.
Thanks again !

If you loaded WP7 it may have locked your SD Card - need to format in a Nokia phone. Or reduced the usable size to 200mb - this can be fixed with a partitioning tool from PC
when go back and forth between WP7 and Android the nand is overwritten ... thats why you loose your AD recovery.
REMEMBER - if you ever try WP7 and come back to Android dont forget youll need to task 29 (to clean out that nasty M$ dirt!), flash magLDR, flash recovery ( i usually stick with a 200 mb partition, as i usually run Hyperdroid, AND that way there are no worries about bad blocks), and then the rom.
although its not NECESSARY its recommended buuuut to avoid weird restarts, FCs, and any other random glitches that may occur down the short road ITS NECESSARY! :-D
good luck
hello everyone! I just installed android on my HTC HD2 successfully but when the phone reboot, shows me the MAGLDR says me that android booting from start and I have to setup android everytime I reboot the phone from the start. someone help me passing this step. thankyou in advance
