Charging The Transformer Base and Main Unit? - Eee Pad Transformer General

When charging the transformer base does it also charge the main unit or do the two charge separately?

i'm fairly sure the tablet charges first then when it at 100% the base charges

Docking the transformer and plug the charger into the dock will charge both the dock and the transfomer.

cyanide1973 is correct - it charges the tablet first and then the base - so that if you want to walk out with just the tablet it is the most charged.

First Charge

Hello,
Just got my EEE Pad with the keyboard dock today.
I read that for the first time you should charge the batteries for at least 8 hours.
Now, what is best? Charging the tablet docked or to separately charge the tablet and then the dock?
Thanks
I use the keyboard dock as a charging station to be sure both batteries are fully charged. The other reality is that power is power and I doubt there is any real difference except for the convenience and amount of time involved.
Bye.
Yeah in the end I decided to dock the tablet and charge it through there, seeing as I am working until 7, I wont be able to play with it

[Q] unable to charge through pc

can i check with all bros using eee transformer is it possible to charge transformer through PC as i plug it in for more than 8 hours and it is still 60% but it went up when i put it to the asus usb adaptor to charge and if i were to use other commercial usb adaptor, it doesn;t charge again.
kindly advise. appriciate all input.
tf needs 15 volts, standard usb only provides 5 volts, hence no charge
bro trosenda, so i cannot charge through my pc?
what about commercial usb charger?
i thought they supply 15v also?
finally, is there a way to charge through PC?
I have my wifi policy set to sleep and my pc will charge my transformer, however it is very slow.
For a quick charge you need mains
bro straxusii, for main i have to use the usb adaptor that they supply? or any usb adaptor will do?
If you take a closer look inside the USB cable or adapter you'll see a set of extra pins behind the standard 4 USB pins. I presume these are used for charging the TF @15V. USB chargers output 5V.
The transformer does technically charge on any usb but only when the screen is off and even then at an extremely slow rate. With the screen on it wont even bother because the drain far exceeds the charge. 5v @ 1A max for your standard usb, 500mA on most laptop or pc usb ports, vs the transformer's native 15v @ 1.2A.
For main you will have to use the provided charger, its the most annoying part of the transformer right now.

this part i gotta agree with you bro. maybe in future they will come out with a usb charger which is capable of switching between 5v to 15v as and when we need. or just a usb charger for all sorts of things. maybe a 25v charger haha... might make things like iphone charge faster.

[Q] charger replacement for kindle

can i use any charger that can fit into my kindlle fire?
i have a charger of LG optimus one and it fits exactly.
i cant find shops selling kindle fire charger here in the philippines.
the original has 1.8A - would try to get one that has around this value
with a charger under 1A i'm pretty shure you'll get charging problems or at least it lasts very long
basically you can use every usb charger ...
Yes you can as long as a charger has equivalent current as the original charger.

I lost mine and just been using the iphone wall charger with the mini usb cable and it's been working fine. Does charge pretty slow but that's all i can do for now.
Any USB charger will work, but one with less current won't charge as fast.

No... I got a charger off ebay and it said it was for the Kindle Fire, but it was only 1000 ma. and I had all kind of problems, There are several threads on this already..Get one at least 1.8 amps and you'll be ok..
The Kindle Fire will recharge from a powered USB hub or computer just fine, and that's only 500 mA. The USB spec doesn't allow for anything greater, so you may run into incompatibilities with other chargers since compatibility is the main reason we have specs. Hopefully manufacturers are talking to each other about how to make fast chargers, but, given Houndog101's experience, it doesn't seem like that's always the case.
The Kindle has a 16.3 W*h battery, so you can calculate how long it'll take to charge given any current (5V * current = Watts), if you account for the loss due to the Kindle being on at the time. A standard USB port is going to take at least 7 hours to fully recharge the Kindle, and probably more like 10+ if WiFi is on. So I'd definitely go for a 1.8 A charger, and hope for the best. Don't spend too much since it might not work unless it's specifically made for the Kindle.
Belkin F8Z630 charger
I've bought several of the Belkin F8Z630 chargers and been very pleased with them. Not cheap, but they deliver a solid 2.1 A at 5 Vdc, they can handle any input 100-240 Vac (basically worldwide usage), and they have a nice rotating plug feature that is handy in some tight spots. Works great for charging the KF quickly.
I found one in my car from an LG that chargers it just fine, and in a timely manner.
What happened to the stock charger? The one that cane with my fire did not work at all

Charging the Tf300 (only charges through original charger?)

I've been playing with my Tf300 for a week now.
This weekend I wasn't home and wanted to charge it. It didn't work.
I tried four different chargers including an iPad one, two Griffins, one belkin with no luck.
I have the original cable and two generic ones I bought from Amazon.
All cables work with the original charger... But NONE (even the original one) works with other chargers.
Any ideas if this is wrong?
I would hate to buy a new charger instead of only taking with me any cable with any of the other chargers I own.
Anyone with the same experience? Why is only the original charger working?
Noticed the same thing.

Noticed that with the car chargers as well

Forgot to mention that I also tried with two car chargers (Kensington and Griffin) with no luck
I'm no electronics expert but I noticed that on my Phone charger (Xperia Mini Pro) it says 850mA, but on the tablet's charger it says 2A. I think that other chargers dont pack enough punch to charge the tablet.
I used an iPad charger with no luck... The car chargers I used all have worked with my iPad.
Anyway, it seems that it's not only mine then.
Now I wonder if there's a work around for this... Besides buying a new original charger
Damn chargers are $30

you can charge your device with a "not compatible" charger if the tablet is turned off. for me it worked with the charger of my galaxy nexus but it charges really slow

I read other articles about charging TF300T. For normal charging the charger must have output at least 11v (12v is usual) and 1.5A (18Watts). Its own charger has 15v 1.2A (18Watts).
iPad charger out only 5v 2.1A. TF300 could be charged with iPad charger but the screen must be off (and it will be very slow, overnight for an 1-2 hr normal charge). So check your charger output voltage and amperage. Thank you.
But doesn't have the charger of the TF300T 5V/2A?
I noticed it on my car charger, but it only has 5V/1A. So the tablet does nothing, even when it is turned off.
It only charges with the original charger.
But I assume other chargers with at least 2A should work without any problems, right?

The tf300 charger is not 5V, its either 12V or 15 V (can't remember which). This is why you see nothing. if the only difference was the current (1A Vs 2A) You would still get a charging notification, it would just take longer. The difference in voltage means It should not be able to charge at all off of a normal usb connection.

Saw that guy on ebay for $13. Think it would work?

yes, but it will be slower than with the charger it came with. that charger only has a 1.2A output as compared to the 2A of the stock charger.

Everywhere I read, people have said that it does not trickle charge at all via usb. Can someone confirm this?
Okay, I can confirm that the TF300T charges at 15V/1.2A.
Both, the tablet and the dock uses 15V. None uses 5V.
I was confused because it's USB. For this purpose it can transform to 5V/2A. But this is not for the tablet.
So I think it's not possible to charge it on a normal USB port.
Has anyone tried using a USB extension cable? I tried one on my Tf300 and it wouldn't charge, no matter what the table arrangement was. It would only charge off its own charger and with only its own USB cable in the USB charger.
At a guess, i'd expect it's because the ASUS charger outputs 15V so the charger or cable will be wired differently to a normal USB lead in order to prevent blowing normal USB devices if you connected them.
USB 3
I can't remember where, but I read that this needs to use USB3 cable. Sorry if this is not the case.

Does it fast charge stock?

Does the N7 have fast charge capability in stock form? It takes a while for my son's tablet to charge so I was thinking of rooting it solely for fast charge capabilities...and maybe to put a nice rom on it, heh.
Wall charging isn't so bad, but if it dies in the car and we use one of those cigarette lighter USB chargers, it takes forever just to get enough juice to turn on and stay on.
It's friggin annoying.
May want to invest in a charger that can supply 1-2 amps.
"fast charge" has to do with the amount of current provided by a "live data" USB connection (e.g. a computer or USB hub compatible with fast charging) - but it has nothing at all to do with dumb chargers. And in fact, the amount of current in "fast charge mode" is actually LESS than that provided by the OEM N7 charger.
What najaboy is saying is that if you want the same result as the (dumb) N7 OEM charger, get a (dumb) car charger that is spec'ed for 2A @ 5V.
