[Q] Recognizing micro sd card - Acer Iconia A500

Hey gang. Ever since I got my A500 I added an additional micro sd card, which when I check the storage settings it shows the correct GB os storage, but I can't get anything stored on my external micro sd. I also tried to use a USB Seagate Freeagent Go and It doesn't recognize it at all??
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you
Paul Clay

How are you trying to transfer data to the external_sd and how is the Seagate drive formatted?

grab file manager HD from the market, free
browse to /mnt/external_sd for addin SD card
browse to /mnt/usb_storage to see usb attached storage device
create a shortcut to and copy/move files to it as you see fit, also can add cifs file shares from your pc's setup usinf the LAN option.....

You may also use NTFS Mount app to make an external HDD visible in Android. Just plug the device to USB and fire up the mentioned app. After that you may launch any explorer and see an additional folder in root directory containing all the information your HDD has. Search the forums.

[Q] Help a noob with micro sd problem

I installed a new 32gb class 10 sd. It shows up in Astro file manager as being available. However, none of the many APP2SD programs I have tried allow me to move my apps to the card. What am I missing here? Do I need to format the card first and if so, how do I do that?
Apps2Sd will put apps in the "SdCard" directory which in the Iconia is actual internal memory.
You can only use your card for extra storage (like music/videos)

So, where in the file system is the actual SD card?
It's under /mnt/external_sd
the USB is under /mnt/usb_storage
They will not show up with the USB connector cable attached, but can be accessed through ADB on the host computer.
I think you are meant to actually pull the card and put stuff on it then put it back in the tablet.
Not all media players will see the card because of this name change in Honeycomb.

In the "First start information" document that came with my Acer, it states:
Transferring files from a microSD card (optional) to your PC
Remove the card from the tablet and use a card reader or USB adapter to access the card as an external storage device.

[Q] Cant see sd card when connected to PC

I just wondering if I got it wrong. I have a sd card in the a500 which I can see when accessing via Astro file. I cannot though see the sd card when connecting the tablet with the pc. Is this correct or am I missing something?
I have the same problem. It works on my Samsung Captivate running 2.2 but not my A500?
I read that this is by design and may be fixed in some update (some day)
I hope it soon!!
CW
Same with my A500. I get a "write protected" message but no way to change the permissions on the SD card to remove write protection.
I can see the internal storage space
I can see the internal SD of the tablet on my windows box...not the sd card thats in the slot. I did however install usb drivers from acer they are on the support homepage of the acer a500

You should be able to go through sdcard folder to external memory. Acer gives root directory instead of just sdcard.
I cannot see external CD card as well via PC.
Astro reports it in /mnt/external_sd
yes, this is a well-known issue that is most likely honeycomb related.

[Q] usb sd card mounting

man i must sound like a real noob but how in the hell can you transfer files from a sd card or usb drive to the iconia they both show in applications tried drive mount they wont mount tried es file explorer see usb drive and sd storage when i open them there isnt anything in them i have clockwork installed and rooted with iconia root i can install other roms if i put sd card in a card reader to tranfer files wont even see in my computer i see storage but nothing in there either any help is appreciated driving me nuts only in xoom rom can i see storage on computer actually shows 2 drives
In file managers you'll find them under /mnt/ The sd is actually under "external_sd" and the usb is something similar like "usb_drive"
If you have been saving things so far they are most likely in the internal storage which is actually mounted as if it's an internal sd card (/sdcard/ or /mnt/internal_sd i think).

AFAIK, since all newer tab's use MTP (media transfer protocol), you can't transfer just any file directly to and from any computer to your external (or internal) SD card. The best way to drag/drop stuff to your external SD card is to un-mount it from the tab, put it in an external card reader, and put your files onto it from your Mac that way. Using this method, you can put whatever you want onto it (assuming Mac reads FAT32).
I have transferred files straight from my pc to the tab and Micro SD before and it was ok.
Apart from some .mov files where it asked me if I wanted to convert the files before I move them over.
Hi,
Androit File Transfer unfortunately not working, you have several possibilities:
Stick the SdCard in an external reader (as mentioned above). They go for under 5$ (I use this for big files >1GB)
Use KIES for Mac to transfer (I use this for medium files <1GB)
Use WiFi File Explorer from the Market (I use this for smaller files <100MB)
Use VMWare or Parallels to install Windows and do it from there
Hope this helps...

Oh I forgot:
When it gets really hairy, I sometimes use ADB Push method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642437
But this is rather technical, but allows you to do some stuff that you can't with the above mentioned methods...
I'm using that WiFi Transfer program and it works pretty good. The only thing it seems it can't do it transfer to a specific location. I can't get a movie/file to transfer right to the 32 gig sd card. Once its on the Tab I can go into My File and drang it from there to the Mem card.
WAPITA, why are they making it so difficult to do this, my Samsung Skyrocket mounts, this is where Apple is light years ahead with iTunes.
The basic user will not be able to figure this out and buy and iPad instead.
After hours of confusion I have realised;
You cannot unmount the SD card, put it into a built-in card reader in a Samsung laptop and put files on there and expect to see the newly moved files you put on the micro SD card back in the tablet.
You can move files to the SD card through the USB cable provided.
I formatted the SD card in the tablet and its a FAT32 which MACs can read.
Try that.

[Q] Swapping Micro SD Cards in Galaxy S4

Hey everyone, need some help and been searching for hours for an answer. I have a rooted Galaxy s4. I have apps that are installed to my external SD through the system options and I also have used folder mount to transfer some apps to external SD. I'm guessing that these are hidden files on my external SD card. I want to swap my current 32GB card for a newer 64GB card. How can I create an exact copy of my external card? I tried copying and pasting all my contents from my external sd but it didn't transfer everything because my apps weren't there upon installing the new SD. How to I copy the entire contents of the old 32GB external SD to the new 64 GB external sd? Thanks

How did you copy them? If you plug in the phone over USB then it won't show all files on the SD card in the phone, you either have to put it in it's own USB reader or get the USB Mass Storage app to mount it

I plugged it in through my phone in USB mode and also manually took it out and put it in an SD reader. Either way didn't show
