GPS - Service unavailable - Omnia 7 General

Hello! After the new NoDo 7392 update, I wanted to test the GPS on my Omnia 7. I noticed that it does not work with any application that can manage the GPS, even with the utility of Diagnosis. Why is that?
Thks

Have you changed the settings in Diagnose menu?
My GPS worked on 7932 some day but cant work now.

No, i don't change nothing in Diagnosis mode. Before, with the original rom, GPS worked not for all days, but it worked
Now with NoDo it don't work in any case

Same problem... after NoDo, GPS doesn't work. Any solutions?

Telus P4000 (Titan) GPS not working.

Hey guys,
I just updated my rom using the latest HTC upgrade (WM6.1) which includes GPS support however i am unable to connect to a single satellite.
ROM: 3.54.661.1
Radio: 3.42.40
I'm not very good with upgrading s/w on the device in the fear that it will brick the phone. Is there any step by step guide that i can follow to get the GPS working on my device?
Under the Start > Settings > System > External GPS, my GPS Program Port is set to COM4 and the GPS Hardware port is set to NONE. Everytime i change my Hardware port to something (Anything) it seems to revert back to NONE.
I was looking at some posts on here that suggested using DCD's Rom update however i like having some of the options in there that the ROM removes (eg: Office). I've used Holux GPS Viewer 1.5 and turn COM4 on (open) which creates a constant stream of GPGSV and GPGSA attributes in the scroll window towards the bottom however there is no fix on any single satellite.
Are there any fixes that apply directly to GPS while keeping the rest of the phone stock?
Thanks for any help,
Mehrdad
If you have a data plan, you can enable aGPS.

If there isn't an ip listed for your carrier, use alltel's.

I will try that once i get home tonite but is there a way to use GPS and not aGPS?
Pending your carrier hasn't locked it down, and you are running a V3.29+ radio and 6.1 rom, GPS should just work, tho without aGPS it can take forever to get a satellite link.

Hey buddy,
I used the fix and followed each step of the tutorial. Check the boxes in QPST off and then back on, changed to the Telus (and Alltel) IP and ports, modified the registry keys to what Shadowtech had mentioned and still my device only says "Seeking GPS satellites (0)..."
On my today screen i see the BAF GPS Toggle option and click it so that is switches on but still no luck. (GPS On Seek:0)
I tried using it in every combination with GPS Viewer 1.5 however that too ended up with no results.
I've checked and rechecked the entire process that was documented. Did you have any other suggestions i could try?
If i did decide to update my ROM did you know the best ROM update that would enable my GPS and would i be able to install it even after i've updgraded to 3.54.661.1 (Radio 3.42.40)? As in, is it backward compatible?
Thanks for all your help,
Mehrdad

Finally! I found this that got it working..
"I was going to suggest the registry fix by setting "EnableGPSSmart" to 1 (from 0).
It's under HKLM -> Software -> HTC -> SUPL AGPS.
You installed the fix that evidently does the same thing, but I think all of the other stuff you did was probably unnecessary! (=
Following the instructions in the first post + the reg fix has worked when I've set it up on three HTC Touch's.
The first post should be updated to include this IMO.
Enjoy your GPS man,
Cheers!"
Sheer stroke of luck and a very good surprise!

[Q] Spica GPS problems

Hi all,
I am trying to find out how widespread the GPS locking problems are with this model. I am talking about non-assisted GPS, which can be tested using the "GPS Test" application on the market.
So, how is the GPS on your phone performing using GPS Test? Please give some detailed information like lock time, number of sattelites, urban/countryside location, and if possible firmware version of your phone.
---
My Spica cannot get a lock at all, will see up to 11 satellites but most of them with signal strength bars at zero. Firmware versions tested (all same result)
1.5 (XEJB2)
2.1 (XXJD1, XXJD4, XXJF2, XXJC3)
Same pb with my wife's spica. Samdroid version with FE7.
Can't lock withour assistance. What a pitty.
Go to your Settings -> Date & Time -> Uncheck Automatic and see if it helps
Or you can try this (need root)
http://forum.samdroid.net/f38/gps-speedup-1262/
http://forum.samdroid.net/f10/fasterfix-1747/ <-- same but easier
i can get a fix under 2 minutes if I stay still...moving, it can take an eternity

i just don't bother with that any more...I might do it again after a month without wiping any data
rooting is like breathing to me ... as it would be to most of the people here
Anyone found a solution yet?
My spica wont connect via gps either. It just keeps blinking and nothing happens...not even after 30min.
I've tried GPStest and it reports that 12 satellites are in view but non in use, and there is no bars everything is at 0...not picking any signal at all :S
I tried my friend's one too and he gets a signal imediatley and a lock after about 10-30seconds.
Any solution to this? Is it a software problem or hardware problem?

I installed the alpha CyanogenMod 2.2 and GPS is working like a charm!
Problem was with the wrong libraries being used in many of the custom roms found at SamdroidMod. Devs found out about this issue and fixed it in this 2.2 release.
I'm running original firmwire which i got on the phone. (XXJE4)
I'm not willing to install alpha cyanogen of froyo yet...Is there really no other solution? I've had a chance to compare my spica to another one with original firmwire (JE4 too) ant that other spica worked while my gps had no lock. Also i had the chance to try one with samdroid on and it worked too.
Mine works from time to time. at the moment it works, earlier today it wouldn't get a lock no matter how long i waited.
First thing-delete /data/xtra.bin- this is data for agps which seems to cause gps locking problem. You can do it with RootExplorer/SUFBS or any file manager with root rights. Or use GPS Status and Reset agps data from setting. You can also try to swap libsec-ril.so, JF2 version works best for me. If you want I can provide update packages for libsec-ril.so
i have installed cyanogenmod 7.1 on mine, and can get a lock under 1min30s outside or under 3min in the bus near the window.
I have a rooted spica with android version: 2.2.2, baseband version: i570EXXJC1, kernel version:2.6.29 and Mod version:SamdroidMod-2.2.2-a9.
When I go to google maps app and click set location I always get an error saying: location temporary unavailable ! I checked the option on Settings->Location and security->Use wireless networks and use GPS satellites. And my phone is connected to the internet.
I just bought the phone last week, and its really embarrassing not getting this to work.

thanks for the useful info, you saved my life by this post.
i thought my gps is wrong in my spica then it was just a bug in the cooked rom. cyanogen mod is cool and gps is working now perfectly.
thanks again!
With spicagenmod + hp/yonip kernel gps work very well.

GPS works really good for me

Finally i can use the GPS on my G3.
I've updated to froyo and my GPS doesn't worked anymore.
I tried all. octopy, change the NTP server, Faster Fix..
But it still doesn't worked.
Finally i decided to install a Clean ROM and try the GPS. it Works.
Then i installed again the Froyo update and the GPS work.
Rooted and personalize my phone and still work.

can it be that some of the applications is "killing" the gps ? interesting, anyway - it works also for me after I made some settings - but it would be fine, if samsung prepares the device for the customer

[Q] How can I get my GPS to work?

I've had my HD2 since January, using WinMo 6.5 and Android, and my GPS has never worked on either. Recently I put WP7 on my phone and the GPS started working! Then I put 6.5 back on, and the GPS was working there too (I think the setting in GPS Test or whatever was a baud rate of 56000 on com 4 or something)! Finally I come back to Android, and it doesn't work -_-
What settings do I possibly have to change to get it working? I tried changing the GPS.conf to ca.pool.ntp.org servers (Canadian), but GPS test still doesn't pick up any satellites. Any ideas?
Found my fix!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18591237&postcount=2174
Just changed the gps.conf to use the ca and north-america servers. Tried so many fixes over the year and nothing has ever worked until now. Basically thought my GPS was just defective. I don't know what's changed, but it works now

Optimus 7 GPS issue - Which firmware to use?

Hi guys, I have a Optimus 7 from germany (which is sim unlocked and comes with the vodafone DE firmware)
I am updated to mango and unfortunately my GPS does not work. The phone is unable to get a lock and the accuracy is stuck at 350m (which AFAIK, is the phone getting the location from a cell tower/mobile network)
I have read on a few topics that the GPS issue is vodafone DE firmware specific. What is the reccomended firmware that has a fully functioning GPS lock and has the full wifi tethering ability?
BTW: I have tried a few fixes in regards to this issue (i.e. going into the registry) but they never worked GPS was working fine pre mango.
Thanks!
...i had same issue ,wich is resolved by starting maps while driving for 5 mins.
After i had gps reception ( maps are more accurate ) i never turned it off (gps reciver) wich has no impact on battery life.Maybe ull need to start application several times while driving.
-First off all, i rebooted phone...
Thanks for your reply. I flashed my phone with the Open firmware using the guide on the hacking page and it seemed to have done its trick
Np...that guide made me do all those things that i rply-ed to you
