will a US wifi xoom work in the UK? any issues
Yes.
It does. I haven't seen any issues so far. If it helps I used this link: http://t.co/NelNL3D
Although I only went through steps 1-3:
link above said:
1. Unlock the device via fastboot. Instructions here. DO NOT RE-LOCK EVER!!
2. Flash the Official & complete US 3.0.1 HWI69 ROM. Links here. Every time I tried to download the "does not require login" version from mediafire I got a corrupted zip, so instead I downloaded from the Motorola developer site (with instructions) here.
3. Once the 3.0.1 Rom was up and running, and I had an internet connection, I got the OTA notification for the 3.1 update and installed it. It took about 10 minutes to notify me once I had connection, probably because it had to download it before notifying me. After the install and reboot process, I had a stock 3.1 install............

The US WiFi should work anywhere. I have a US WiFi Xoom and it updated to 3.1 OTA just fine as soon as I connected to a WiFi access point, even on the other side of the Atlantic.
I didn't need to do anything to it. I opted to unlock and root, but it was working just fine on stock.

Yes, it works just fine in Europe and you will get the updates faster then european Xoom's.
Included charger works in Europe (220v), but you will need US > UK adapter.
You know I just noticed I read the question wrong

I am going to England for 2 weeks in September. Hotel only has wifi in public areas, wired in the room, but I should be able to set-up an ad-hoc network using the wife's netbook.
I have one plug adapter, and will probably pick up at least one more to make sure that netbook, Xoom, and Kindle stay charged.
Just tried Books and it works fine.
You need BooksTablet.apk, i used ES File explorer to install it. It will give a error that it wasn't installed but after a restart the Books icon appears and works.
I seem to have issues with google books where it keeps uninstalling itself after the 3.1 update...
but either way - wifi works the same in the US as it does in the UK.
all good
I think the things that differ are the networking frequencies and stuff

You got it... Nice and easy the way it should be. Hopefully one day USB tethering gets incorporated into this app.
Just hangs for me at 'start tethering' screen.. I have root and I gave it SU access when it asked..
Yea or one day http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/ this works

hmm... Interesting Cause I was just able to play WoW while tethering and was able to watch a youtube video full screen hd even though had to give it time to buffer some
-pre4 is working great for me! You need root, but once the app loads, tap the middle of the wireless symbol (you should get an SU prompt) and connected my computer. Posting this from my netbook tethered to my Vibrant with this app.
Hmm... disabling tethering gives me a screen with on and off icons and a message saying that the phone's state is unknown and I should try rebooting. It's working fine though, I connected back up to the wifi network here and all is well.

Yep, pre4.

This us what I'm seeing on pre 5. I found that when it says phone state unknown with the on and off icons that tethering is still active as the ap still shows up in my wifi network list.

I take it you'd need to root first before using this app? Wasn't sure since you don't have to root with pdaNet.

We have three Vibrants and the app worked fine on two of them. However, my wife's phone would lock up when trying to start tethering. We also noticed her phone was generally slower than our other two Vibrants. We returned the phone yesterday and exchanged it, but I haven't tried tethering with the new one. My wife wants to use it for a while without rooting it.

Pre5 works fine for me, no difficulties experienced. Tethered to an iPod Touch using Wi-Fi
Nice this works great for me. I'm currently on Windows XP and a pc. Thanks.
Not working on mine. Followed the instructions in this thread and no luck. Tried 3 different ones and still notta. Can anyone help?

So yeah. Market won't work over 3G anymore. It worked earlier today when I downloaded Better Keyboard and Ultra Keyboard. Went to go refund the Better Keyboard as I decided on keeping the ultra keyboard and market wouldn't work.
It did however work over Wi-Fi.
I made No other changes to my phone since this morning. I have no idea why market isn't working. Maybe it's T-Mobile?
I tested web browsing on 3G and that worked. Maybe it's a port issue? Don't know.

I've tried rebooting several times as well.
I really don't want to flash a stock ROM again, everything is perfect.
EDIT:
The Market doesn't work on EDGE either.

A ton of other people were reporting the same issue, so it was either a T-Mobile network problem or a Google problem. Since it was working over wifi I'd lean toward it being a network issue on T-Mobile's end.
Yep. I even undid the lag fix and reverted back to stock and no change. Works fine for me as well over wifi.

Have read through a few threads on the subject - i have a Samsung Intercept from virgin mobile rooted and using barnacle to act as a wifi hotspot.
Confirmed my hotspot is working via a windows laptop - but my a500 seems to be unable to connect to ad-hoc networks.
I am running 1.144.07 on my tablet - rooted already as well. Anyone here modded their a500 for ad-hoc? The thread in the dev section on the subject has a lot of users reporting broken wifi after trying the method - would love to hear from someone who has done it.
Thank you in advance!
(Edit: no help needed - went the other way around thanks to a helpful user on the Samsung Intercept forums and convinced my Intercept to be able to do a proper infrastructure hotspot. Works like a charm!)
I had received an update from acer...now my iconia reads ad-hoc......if u didn't get the update wait for 3.1 update or try enabling infrastructure mode on your samsung intercept...

Many thanks, a very helpful user in the Samsung Intercept section helped me to get proper infrastructure mode hotspot working - i am so happy right now Virgin Mobile unlimited 3g = 25$ usd a month, and now I can use that on my a500!!!!!
Did you already get 3.1 OTA update?????
Worked for me.
I read all the threads regarding the adhoc issue and finally decided on the Root Explorer method. It works great.
The first time it did not work because the file permissions were set incorrectly(by me). The info I was using was from the Xoom forum and I think the directions stated setting all permissions in the 2 left columns and the top 2 permissions in the right side column. Mine had 4 columns. So I did as directed and it did not work. I went back to permissions and then checked the appropriate permissions in the third column and left the fourth column the same. This time it worked for regular wifi. I fired up Wifirouter on my Tilt2 and my iconia found the adhoc from the phone and connected. Got on the intertubes and surfed for a bit. All is well.
It seems that most people that had issues after the wpa_supplicant file swap, had neglected to turn off wifi before overwriting the file.
This is what mine looks like under permissions in Root Explorer for wpa_supplicant after it was replaced with the altered one from the Xoom forums.

Hope that helps.

Dude - too cool of you to take the time to write that. I managed to get infrastructure mode hotspot working on my intercept now - but am still going to take the time to do this just in case I need ad-hoc anytime soon. Thank you for your time!
You're welcome. Glad you found a fix.

Nevermind. I removed the info that I had posted...
What I tried turns on the ad hoc just fine but I can't connect to a regular connection.
The setting that you posted don't seem to work for me either. Thanks tho.
Anyone having luck getting an ad hoc network going after updating to 3.1?
Anyone else having this issue? I dont really frequent Market that often but yesterday I decided to go on to it and noticed its slow as heck. Never thought much of it - turned on WIFI and instantly everything started working...
Later..I tried to use voice to text and it didnt work! Went back to Market and thats where I put 2 and 2 together, Google Apps fail to work on 3G. Talked to another friend of mine in the GTA who has an Xperia Play and same thing - he cant connect to Market on 3G!
I just installed 2.3.3 - still no go. DATA settings are FINE as I can browse without any issues..its just any Google Apps fail to work...
yes...i do hav the same problem...lol...i think it's got sth to do with the APN setting being occasionally lost -_-'' (software bug, maybe)
how did u install the 2.3.3? via generic UK 2.3.2 and OTA upgrade? (it's how i done it)...basically, search for 'APN Manager' (free on market) and install it. then u add one more APN of the same config as ur original APN and when it doesnt work, use the widget to switch it forth and back and it'd work...hope this help thou...not sure if ur circumstance's exactly like mine but this shud do the job anyway...
I updated using SEUS...its available for the Rogers XPlay. My apn settings are correct as I can browse...but off of 3g I can't authenticate with any Google servers....

Update - any app requiring authentication is not working! Even XDA app won't let me log in on 3g....

Hello, I am running the stock firmware on my nexus 4. I am not even rooted. I am connected to WiFi and my google now says no connection.
Normally I live in the UK, but now I am residing in Bangladesh due to work reasons. MY google now was working perfectly as in showing me cards on local time, currency rates and all the other stuffs.
But this morning when I wake up, google now is not working. it says no connection but i can surf the net, download apps from the market and do everything.
So I master reset the the phone. then set up everything from the beginning, after all these hassles my google now was working. Now the next morning i wake up and its the same. No connection error on google now.
So can anyone tell me whats going on and how do I fix it.

I just realized mine isnt either. Stock Rom, Rooted, TWRP and just flashed franco M1 yesterday. Hmmmmm
Having this issue for months now. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Had gone through many forums and no solution yet. Counting days when I get back to England because I believe it has something to do with my ISP.

Just go to Settings-App search for "google search" and delete cache/data, you should be ready to go
