I'm just curious. There are so many great ROMs out there for our nexus ones thanks to the fantastic devs. But my preference is still Enom's. I like stock builds so I've tried cyanogenmods and Geo's stock build as well. Great ROMs both. But at the end of the day my preference is still Enom's due to the ease of setting up a2sd and dalvik cache locations right from inside the modded spare parts, the ease of installing mods like FM radio, T-Mobile WiFi calling, dsp manager, HTC sense camera, audio boost kernel, HTC sense music and games, all right through the spare parts. I know that cyanogenmod can now do all these things (apart from apps2ext) but I like the implementation and ease in enom's. Also the ability to control CPU speeds and whatnot from spare parts as well.
The one thing which I don't understand though is performance. I'm not talking about benchmarks. I'm talking about noticing it in browser scrolling performance. Using dolphin mini in all ROMs. For some reason I find that Enom's ROM takes the cake there even over cyanogenmod. And I don't understand why. I'm using Enom's stock kernel and my CPU settings are very stock (998mhz max, 245mhz min, on demand governor). But scrolling on a webpage for most sites is like iPhone smooth on Enom's and the others is always very slightly stuttery. You have to really look to notice but the difference is there. This is with everything the same on all ROMs, flash on demand, text reflow not enabled.
Anyways just wanted to hear anybody else's opinions.
And Enom if you're listening, we miss you and your great work.
I am also still using the Enomther's rom
I think this is the fastest and the most efficient rom.
do you guys still watch vhs?

Still on Enom myself. It just works, always. It never acts funky, no spontaneous reboots, no wonk, no chasing the latest nightly hoping some random bug is fixed..
I use CM7 on my tablet, but I need my phone to just work and it does rather well on Enom.

Still on Enom's but I'm looking to switch to the Gingerbread.
I'm waiting for the next stable Cyanogen (without the so called wonk). I think I'll have to do a lot of tweaking to get it to the state I want. Enom's ROM needed very little to give me an aesthetically pleasing style. Cyanogen is pretty chaotic. (I think if it could be changed it was ... whether it needed to be or not!).
I'd like to find another ROM that was like Enom's in that it added sensible, useful enhancements and was still usable as a phone for everyday use... suggestions welcome!

Lol. No seriously though,
Are any of you noticing the performance difference? I mean try loading up androidcentral.com for example. And just scroll up and down. It's buttery smooth on Enom's ROM for me, whereas Geo's, Cyanogenmods, and the MIUIs are almost there, and to the untrained eye they are very smooth, but if you're looking for it, you can see the difference. (Using dolphin mini, no text reflow, plugins on demand).

The call wonk has been fixed for a few weeks at least now. The only glaring bug I have using build #87 is the lock screen wake/black screen, but that only takes 5 seconds till it turns right back on after waking it again. I don't know if that has been fixed but I have had no call problems at all.

I mostly used enom till I moved over to the sgs2. That was before the wonk was fixed which I found pretty annoying. If it hadnt been for that I would have stayed on cm as it brought a lot to the table but for me the fundementals are important and one thing about enoms rom was that as already stated "it just works". I miss him and hope he got past the life issues he was facing.

True, but I'm just looking for ROMs that people recommend/use daily that work well. I'm gonna try DamageR right now, I've already tried DamageControl and Flipz, so I'm gonna try some other ones and see how it goes.

SEARCH AND READ...that's seems to be the answer to every single post being made today. It's all here in black and white. One search I recommend in all honesty is search the word:
"BENCHMARK" and read the thread started by flipzmode. It's a really good read.
I heard that CakeButt.ClownPenis 1.3 was really fast!!!! Check it out.

I just spit coke all over the computer at school...thanks Kbizz.
RegawMOD is pretty good and the new FreshToast is also fast once it's setup right... I've tried just about every 2.1 rom available on this site and those are the ones I like the most.
I know it benchmarked the worst but as far as regular use RegawMOD 2.1 is the best and fastest running rom in my experience, that is also on the .29 kernel...
If you search for flipzmode benchmark you will see that all 2.1 rom all run about the same speed.
Other then flip/toast OC rom should run the fastest and its the only rom that will actually show a big difference in benchmarks.
Water it down like all the other "fast" roms and youll have one that is actually fast do to overclocked processor.
Its not made for everyone, and the camera isnt working yet (i have a feeling its not far away).

Hey no problem!! Bout choked myself when I first read it.. My favorite rom name to date!! Wish I could cook.....
This is hardly a scientific analysis, but I have been running DC, flipz, and Regaw's roms interchangably for the past few weeks, and today switched from Sense to the Helix launcher.
The biggest difference in UI performance came from ditching Sense...it was actually a noticeable difference in responsiveness
That being said, I don't think you'll notice a whole lot of difference between the individual ROMs with Sense, so base your choice on what programs/features each ROM has versus which is fastest...in everyday use, you won't be able to tell a difference, IMHO.
So I got DarchVanilla, and I really like it, but the market doesn't have all my apps.. Is there a fix for this yet?? I really like this one, it's very responsive and close to lag free.

+1 The reason I chose RegawMOD is because it was basically a stripped down rom. It allowed me the room to load the programs that I wanted without having to strip useless (for me) programs from the rom. Very nice, stable.
I've found that using Ic3Rom with some apps removed from it, the old OpenGL restored on it, and Launcher2 installed, it's incredibly fast. It looks like AOSP, but has the current stability and function of a HTC ROM. Give it a shot if you haven't
I've used almost all of the roms available out there I thing fresh works better, if u don't want lag you would hve to use aosp

+1 for RegawMOD being the best of the ones currently available that gives me what I want. I really like fresh 2.0d except that is was really laggy IMO too. I can't handle laggy, and RegawMOD doesn't appear to have any of that lag, and so far everything I need and want works just fine on it, including googlevoice, but I only use googlevoice for my voicemail, no idea about sending and receiving calls with it.

Cyanogen is awesome... 5.0.6 is sweet.. not even 1 issue and its got 2 things I really want, apps 2 SD and gifs working in the browser... awesome...
Definitely Cyanogen I like it the most.
All 3 but I definitely like the visual appeal of the Desire ROM by KingNexus and Paul from Modaco!!!
Until we get the the Desire kernel, Desire ROMs simply should not be put in speed test. It is not up to par with even the stock Nexus, and anyone who thinks its as fast as Enom, or Cyan, are just not in their right mind.

Have used all 3. I liked Enom's, and felt he did some things better... But my phone started acting up, so I simply went back to CM. Enoms is perfectly acceptable though.
For me, Desire is fail. Without working BT, it's not usable for me. I use it daily in the car for BT Audio (Audiobooks + Pandora). Nothing against the chef, just unusable atm.

Might have to retry it then
I love the look/feel of the ROM itself. Just tried it twice and my car never liked it. So I gave it up. I'll have to reinvest some time again.
cyanogen
More stable, cleaner, maybe not the fastest but very fast, most popular so any other mod will be compatible with cyanogen room before any other, best reputation since day one on G1, and it has a nice logo
I like cyanogens been using it since my g1. I never tried enomthers so no offense to his ROM. Cyanogens always has little extra things in his such as setting the trackball light for sms notifications from directly within the sms app idk what else but there's some more. Its also fast and stable. I used desire for a while as my main Rom but that was mainly for flash player and I always switched back and forth between desire and cyanogen and finally decided I don't really need flash player that much and that I could wait for 10.1

I would say I tested all 3 I am using Cyanogen but will VOTE DESIRE
as regular use I loved sense and the filing behind it but BT is big issue.
As it is alpha it is most promising from regular user point o view.
I will try to do the install on top of Pouls rom now.
Cyanogen, as usual
I have really given all 3 ROMs a shot, using each for long periods (I love you, nandroid!). Just like with my G1 and my MT3G, I always end up back on Cyanogen. You just can't beat having a great and stable ROM. Although, for the first time, I have to admit that the Desire ROM, King's in particular, is really close to being my daily ROM now, if the camera flash and bluetooth get fixed, I will be a full time Sense user.
i was running cyanogen for awhile on my n1. The performance of it was great, but I got tired of always having to have a charger on me.
I am on enomther's now and I love it. The battery life is similar to stock and it has fix all the issues I had with stock.
I was using CyanogenMOD till I got tired of having to charge every four hours. Now I'm using Enom's now since it doesn't suck up the battery!
I have heard that the battery life with CM is pretty brutal.. Is this problem generally fixed by using SetCPU?
FYI, I have used all 3 ROMs as well and I LOVE the Desire ROM particularly by King and I was very disappointed when I was unable to use my bluetooth due to the fact that I use it EVERY day! After giving it one more shot with my new BlueAnt Q1 headset, I am happy to say that my Bluetooth is perfectly functional for calls and A2DP! I love the Sense UI and even though its not as fast or stable as Cyanogen's ROM it is PRRRRETTY as hell! It will only get better as more updates are released for the Desire... Oh, and the battery life is fantastic! CM ROMS would die within 8 hours and Enom's are better but the Desire Port from King is crazy good!
I somehow fail to understand the motive behind this poll?
1) If you really wish to show your support to a chef... donate him.
2) If you want to know which one is better for you... try them all..don't flash a ROM just because everyone else is using them.
3) If you want to help others decide... then don't.. let them try all the ROMs
The poll seems unfair and discouraging to new chefs.
Hey guys and gals. i'm done with BakedSnack. it started out well, but it's gotten so laggy that it's simply not usable. so i'm looking for suggestions for a new rom.
so far i've tried two OMJ's, three BakedSnack, a real early DamageControl and an early Fresh.
basically i'm looking for all the standard hardware(wifi, 4g, cam, etc) to continue functioning. i'd also like decent battery life(a whole day is more then enough) i don't want to lose my 50fps unlock. i'm also looking for something optimized for performance. apps opening and closing smoothly and quickly, screens animating smoothly and most importantly no lag while using swype(that happens now with BS and it's giving my all kinds of strange phrases when i try to type)
can someone suggest some new roms? and yes, i know i could go read through dozens of postings and look at features, but id much rather hear about their behavior in the real world.
thanks!!

Calkulin's EViO is what you're looking for. It's located here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745205
that looks really promising! but do i need to install a new kernel? i'm currently running bakedsnacks latest and i'm worried that it's part of my speed problem
Honestly, if Baked Snack is lagging, you might have a different issue. Lag issues are a lot of time related to your kernel. Try flashing Netarchy's latest (not the beta but the stable one...I forget the numbers) and see how that goes. I've tried almost all of the ROMs but haven't found anything as good as BS.
it started out awesome, everything was slick and zippy. now, about three weeks in, it takes nearly 45 seconds to get handcent to open. then when it does open, i have to wait 15-20 seconds for the keyboard to appear. then it takes a bit for the keyboard to get situated cause as soon as i try swipping, the tracer is all over the place :-/
could it be that the kernel didn't flash properly? maybe if i reflash, it'll fix my speed issues?
This is after you reboot the phone every day?

Laggy yea ok, not sure what your doing but its not on the rom's end . I ran 1.7 for while and it was rock stable no lag no stuttering etc etc
As other roms go try them all see what one fits the needs you have

Sounds like a kernel issue to me also. I was running one of his tweaked "best battery" kernels, and started noticing some lag after a while, so I switched to what was the default kernel in 1.5 and the lag disappeared. Also, if you've been running the same bs for a few weeks, then you probably haven't updated recently (like me). Maybe you'll have a better experience with 1.7.

See my sig with all my rom info and scores. Fresh is working lovely for me, and everything works. While some of the processor scores may be lower than what the Evo is capable of, I don't think those scores are bad when you consider I'm running Sense and I have a bunch of apps on my phone that are always hogging up resources (i.e. Facebook and Facebook for Sense, Lookout, eBay, Google Maps, HTC's mail, friendstream, Scoremobile widget, weather channel app, Swype, and a live wallpaper). These scores were achieved with Fresh's 3.1.0.2 rom, and I flashed the 3.2.0.0 which is based on the OTA that has not been released yet, but I lost many features with the new kernel from HTC that saves battery life, so I flashed king's kernel over it until the devs get a chance to play with the new kernel. All my root goodies are fully functional on Fresh 3.2.0.0 with Kings kernel.

hey guys, i just had a thought. when i first installed baked snack i wiped with Clockwork recovery. now i'm reading reports that it may not be clearing the cache's like it's supposed to. could this be a cause??
Okay I did some research on the Rom. Everyone raves about the speed and how battery last longer then the stock or cm6 roms. It looks very iphony to me. How smooth is the Rom? How is it working out for you miui users. Is it worth the time? I am very satisfied with cm6. Haven't thought of switching but I want to give it a try. Please let me know.
try out the rom yourself, its not going to kill you
I gave it a go. It is very iphone-ish, but not so much that it bothered me or was distasteful. I saw no increase in battery life or speed, even though I'm sure tests might prove it, nothing that makes a noticeable difference in day to day usage. I eventually went back to enoms rom with wildmonks kernal.

well, I didnt wanna try it out either because I really dont like the iphone interface, but turns out that I did try it and I love it!
I didnt use the stock launcher though, thats what made it iphone like.
Im using launcher pro and adw so I get pretty much all the benefits of the rom. It is a very fast rom. probably as fast as all the other really. but for some reason, its really smooth. its a completely new version of android I would say.
give it a try with another launcher. I think you might like it. also, try out wildmonks kernels. they seem pretty fast and stable for me
Which Rom do you recommend? Rodriguez or dj's? Wildmonks kernel is the best. Not a big fan of iPhone but will use launcher pro or adw launcher.
Im using rodriguez. It seems to be the easiest one file flash type of rom.
Rodriguez is what I used. Was very nice and launcher pro worked great with it. It also has some nice features with it. I might give it another go myself, but with gingerbread around the corner, I dunno. Plus it's just hard to give up enoms.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
im using it with adw launcher and i love it. there isnt really any increase in performance that ive noticed but i love how you can go straight to sms app from the lock screen.
Rod's MIUI rom's rock...happy flashing!
And read his thread posts for details & info
I've been using Rodriguez MIUI roms for a while now. Every once in a while I flash something else including a few Sense ones and CM6.1 but the MIUI roms simply dust them in speed and responsiveness.
I don't really like the icons so much but I can easily overlook them with the huge increase in speed, stability over CM and the latest (1.8.1) with Wildmonks kernel gives me better battery life than I have EVER had.
I really like MIUI for a couple of reasons. The ability to create folders on the home screen makes finding my apps faster and more organized, as I like to load down my phone with more apps than I ever would really use. I also really like what they've done with the dialer and in-call menu, as it gives you bigger buttons and indicators for Bluetooth connectivity and such. I've lost track of how many times I've forgotten to turn on Bluetooth prior to making a call, and ROMs based on the stock Froyo only have the small icon on the status bar to let you know whether Bluetooth is connected, so I often ended up sitting there listening to silence for a few seconds before realizing the problem. Even answering a call is somewhat easier, as you swipe down instead of sideways, and that's especially useful for the times when I'm asleep and get awoken by a call.
Then there's always the other assorted UI improvements that aren't particularly necessary, but still cool nonetheless. There's a cool visualizer that plays along with your music on the lock screen, in addition to controls on the lock screen for your music. The stock wallpapers are really nice too, and after using CyanogenMod I started getting tired of seeing the color cyan. The top bar is transparent too, so it will always look nice with whatever wallpaper you choose. Despite taking some cues from Apple's iOS UI, I actually think MIUI does it better.
The look of the icons is my only gripe with MIUI, but that can be changed with themes of course. Speed wise, I haven't noticed a whole lot of improvement, and I think that's because I don't often have many apps all running at once. What really matters to me is usability, and in that department MIUI shines, and hopefully will only get better.
I use the miui rom as well with Launcher Pro. The Battery life rocks. thats my main reason I use it.

I thought we've always been able to do this with even a stock n1, no? I never use it, but thought it's always been there.

I did it I flashed it made it like I had it before. Seems little zippy. I like the lock screen. We will see how everything works in couple of days.
Is there a theme for this Rom?

Okay I did some research on the Rom. Everyone raves about the speed and how battery last longer then the stock or cm6 roms. It looks very iphony to me. How smooth is the Rom? How is it working out for you miui users. Is it worth the time? I am very satisfied with cm6. Haven't thought of switching but I want to give it a try. Please let me know.

it is not hard hard to make a nadroid backup, flash a rom and try it, if you don't like it, may be go back?. People's inputs are biased and you may have a different experience than what others tell you.
One thing is sure, MIUI rom is more composed than the stock experience you get from CM.

Meh. Tried it, didn't like it. Went back to CM nightly. MIUI is not in any way faster or better on battery than CM or stock rom. That's all hype and placebo. And imo, LauncherPro2 is way better than MIUI launcher.
But, some people like it, and I'm glad we have a choice.

I agree. I was using miui not so long back, and its certainly a nice rom, and unlike many,i certainly don't mind the iphone look. However, the talk of it being faster and having better battery life than others is incorrect. I'm now using geos frg83 rom which is largely stock, and the speed and battery life are identical. I decided to start using that as I got sick of constantly updating newer versions of the rom, and all the issues it used to bring. However it is a very polished rom, but with ginger bread around the corner, I will just hold off until then.
As an out of the box rom though it is very nice and polished.

As far as am aware the messaging thing used to be an issue a few updates ago but I think it's fine now. Maybe someone else could clarify. If anything perform a nandroid backup just in case.
I personally think that miui currently outshines the rest, it's my rom of choice on my n1.
ya , ill give it another try
thnx , i just miss the 3d app drawr in launcher pro
Hey all...I was wondering what people thought was the most stable/customizable rom out there? I'm currently using CM7 stable..and not to happy with it at all. I usually use MODACO's ROMS and have been very pleased....I just want something new, and fun...Any suggestions?
If you usually use Modoco, and have tried CM7, I guess only thing left to feel something "different & customizable" is the latest Miui.
Very stable and fast for me, and there are a bunch of themes. I highly recommend using Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher, as the built in launcher is what turns people away and in my experience is the source of instability. You can even cherry pick any aspect from between themes using the built in Theme Manager. Oh and on the latest version, I got 37 hours of normal use .
It's quite different. On MIUI now because I like the animations and built in exclusives:
File Manager with awesome indexing and great FTP
Music App is nice, scrolling lyrics are a cool feature
MIUI Gallery is slow at times, but lets you easily hide and unhide media folders.
MIUI Cam is nice too, reminds me of sense camera.
Phone/Contacts/SMS app are awesome as default android is lacking.
Lockscreen is visually nice.
I dislike the default launcher and the search!!
Niether are better, CM7 or MIUI, its all part of the fun of owning a great android phone. You get bored after a few months, you switch it up!
If you want stable, go CM6...

MIUI is nowhere near stable or bug-free. At least on Froyo it wasn't. And I don't believe that changing to a buggier Gingerbread as a base added stability to it.
If you want fun - go for it, in the worst case - keep your nandroid at hand.
If you want stability - stay with Froyo ROMs, CM6 or Enomther's. But it won't be fun then.
Yeah, I'm one of the people that have an amazing experience with MIUI, but others aren't so lucky. so like the guy above
Miui for new, fun and customizability
CM6 or Enom for guaranteed stable.
I've also had a great experience with MIUI. But, u'll only know by trying/flashing!
Thank you to all who responded. CM7 is going okay for me. I really like the customized features. But I'm having a terrible time with the Bluetooth feature. Every time I'm on a call, either the end user can't hear me or they hear static. I tried changing my kernel to REDSTAR, but yes, it made my phone screaming fast, but still I have the BT issue.
What do you all think of KANG-0-RAMA ROM? I'll check out the more stable roms you guys mentioned. I'm not a fan of MIUI only b/c I dont like the iPhone look. But what do you all like about cm6? and I emother? Can you all please list what are the pros and cons of those two?
AGAIN THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
Same for me wrt MIUI. Kinda think it stands for Mimic Iphone's User Interface ;p. If I wanted an IPhone, well u know the rest ...
I've been using CM7 since nightly #3 and been lucky that the wonk has generally stayed away. (I just jinxed it, didn't I .....)

Stop being lazy!
If you use ADW for MIUI or reformat/repartition sd card--wipe all several times-- and do fresh install--use VM Heap Tool and set it at 48--the new GB MIUI is very stable for me.
I use MyBackUp Pro to bu home screens etc and restore--so it didn't take long to get back up and running
Take a look to this room http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061648 I have been using it for a couples of days and it is really stable, I don't know that kind of customization do you like from cm7 or modaco roms, I used too but they have too many problems.
What about battery life? My screen is off and my phone doesn't sleep on CM7

thats odd... sleeps for almost everyone else. might be an app that is constantly keeping your phone awake or your sync settings are really frequent. which would go hand in hand with battery life.
Hearing people say MIUI is stable blows my mind. I've never used a buggier rom... it's quite nice when it works though.
I find that since 2.3, there hasn't been any stable roms. I'm hoping CM 7.1 is better, as I find CM7 pretty bad.
I'm using CM 7 ExtremeMod 16.5.2011 + a2sd. so far its very stable and battery last long.
