After the 3.1 update a few weeks ago I noticed that the area around the bottom of the screen just above the bottom tool bar (in landscape mode) is not responding to 'buttons' if they are in that area. I have to turn the screen to portrait mode and I can then hit the 'button'. The other odd thing is if I hit the tool bar (in landscape mode) it will pop up and be responsive with out a problem
Any ideas?

Stock or custom kernel?
Did this problem exist at all before hand? I assume not by the way you worded your question. Would you have anything against flashing back to stock again with factory images to test that issue again, and then update one more time?

Stock XOOM WIFI. It did not exist before the 3.1 update. I had not considered going back to stock but it is an idea.
Did you try to recalibrate your screen there is an app in the market that may help called touch recalibrate. Also I have a calibration ini file that you can place on the root of your SD card and reboot letting it recalibrate the touch screen? Let me know and I can send that to you?

I have that rotating "please wait" thing on the today screen, and it won't go away... I only changed some meter icons for iLauncher, what could be the problem? (soft reset doesn't solve it)
have u tried aligning ur screen?
strange, it went away by itself. I like self-repairing devices

Are you using the supplied case with a magnetic clasp? Since a magnet in the phone is used to tell the hardware that the keyboard is opened many users have reported that simply removing their device from the OEM case has caused this. This is documented over and over again in the forums.
yes. i m using the case.
thank for the info

Edit: i just saw that you are right. When the note is in cardock, the screen freezes when getting a call...
Out of the cardock and still in landscape mode (via apex launcher), the screen automatically turns to vertical mode (which is prevented in the dock).
So its definatly a problem with ICS. It seems it doesnt have a landscape callscreen! Hope they already know and fix that bug!

Hi all,
My N4 is a week old and there is a thing with the screen.
When on portrait mode, the area of the "c" letter isn't working and when on landscape mode, the "o" and/or "p" area isn't working.
Tried to switch to CM 10.1 but same issue there.
Tried different keyboard, same issue.
Anyone had it? Know what to do?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
J.
anyone?

Help!
Anyone?
Does it respond when clicking on another screen where those same touches would be? Try to gently mark the spots you aren't getting a response and then go to another screen, like a link of some kind and see if you get a response. If you don't, I would say it's definitely a hardware issue and RMA time.

First thing: Activate developer options (Hitting build number in phone info seven times) and activate "show touches" and "pointer locations". Thus, you can locate your weak spot precisley (do it for landscape and portrait mode)
Then, do what the post above says. Check responsivness in other apps, browser, etc..
Next, I would install some kind of multi-touch-check app. With that, check again your weak point including multi touch responsivness. perhaps it has something to do with multitouch input - who knows.
If the problem in consistent, i would recommend to do an rma.
Edit: after finding out the location, lock the phone (display off) and have a look at the display. In bright light and under a certain angle, you can slightly see the digitizer. If the defective locatios corresponds to one digitizer substructre, it is a hardware fault (pretty sure)
I have a D800 model. The touchscreen will not respond when trying to access the status bar, but when I bring the notification panel down via another shortcut I can tap the settings icon among other items which are in the same areas which wouldn't respond before. So I know the digitizer isn't "dead" there. There are also multiple areas in the top third of the display which do not respond only in portrait mode (I can't click "install" in the play store, for instance). When rotated to landscape, those areas of the screen respond normally.
I've tried calibrating the motion sensor, updating touchscreen fw, factory resetting and kdz/tot back to bone stock and none have fixed the issue. I can't find a similar issue on any other forums or websites.
It was working fine and began happening all of a sudden and no modifications were made prior. I was running CloudyG3 1.1 since its release.
Any ideas?
Thank you!

The screen is rotating sometimes with the phone flat on table or sometimes holding it in my hand in portrait mode
It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes it does

It's pretty normal for a phone to switch to landscape mode while on a table, tables are virtually never perfectly flat. So that's that. But if the device gets stuck in landscape mode while you're holding it out I portrait mode, and you need to switch auto-rotation off and on in order to fix it, that's a bug that a few people have noticed worth this device (including new). The only fix so far is to toggle the auto-rotation.
You need to calibrate it.

I am not sure yet. On other devices I knew how to, on this one I have only seen it on the maps. You have to tilt it doing the 8 shape until it says calibrated.

This happen because your phone was on landscape mode before you lay it flat on the table. And because launcher doesn't rotate to landscape, you thought that your phone is in portrait mode until you got into the settings.
