I've flashed back to 1.2.6 as well as hard reset via the default boot menu on the phone (pressing power and volume). My problem is...it unrooted and took me back through the initial setup...but all my files/folders are still on the device...photos, program folders, etc. I'm having to turn it in this week and I need to find a way to clean all this back to its original state.
So my question is this...
Is there a program that can clean this up?
OR...what files/folders are on the phone by default so I can just manually go in and delete off the other files?
Any suggestions?
Settings, storage and sdcard, unmount internal and format
Something like that. I will have to fire up my atrix to find out exactly

The android recovery (hold vol down and power while turning on) should do it. If you keep hitting Vol down after the white text pops up on the main loading screen (M with dual-core under it) you will get a ! with the triangle and an little droid dude. Wait a few seconds then tap the lower right hand corner of the screen to get the UI to show (you might have to try it a few times) then scroll down to the recovery and then press the blue ok button on the bottom left, then do the same thing again when it asks you to confirm it.
I had to do the same thing (turn it in) and that wiped it completely.

I am trying to do an nandroid back up. The instructions say to power off, then hold the "Home Key" and the power button untill you see the triangle.
I am holding the picture of a house next to the menu key. Is that the correct key?
My unit just turns on normally even if I am holding mentioned key, which is the wrong key cause it should not have power until the phone is on and unlocked.
Thanks for help.

On the Droid 2 you have to go through a different way.
1. Make sure you have Koush's bootstrap app for the Droid 2.
2. Make sure you are bootstrapped via Koush's app.
3. Reboot to recovery through Koush's app.
You navigate menus with the volume buttons. You select with the camera button, and you go back with the power/lock button.
you can also utilize the keyboard arrows, use ok to select and delete to back up.

Ok, got it from the Market and it installed. I started it and did not know what to do, so I hit the first button, then the second button, then went to Backup/Restore and chose backup.
It is working as i type this.
Thank you so much
yes you would select backup. Once you do this it will backup to you backup folder on your sdcard. If you were to need to go back, you would utilize the restore option and select whichever backup you wanted to use.
if your phone is boot looping or anything to get into recovery:
-start up phone
-let the phone go to the bootscreen (the droid eye screen after the M logo)
-pull the battery out while in the bootscreen
-after a few seconds replace battery and boot up phone
-phone will boot into clockwork recovery

Good advice. I believe there is a flag that gets set when you shut down the phone, and it only gets reset when you successfully boot. That way, if you boot loop, when you try to boot again it goes to recovery.
This also manifests itself sometimes when you flash a rom. Everytime you boot, it first goes into clockwork recovery, which is annoying, but fixable. This problem occurs because you need to bootstrap again which allows the flag to get reset when the OS loads.
only bootlooping when connected USB
I dont know what happened I simply had my phone attached to my pc in USB mode (after transferring music to the sd card via "media sync") and when I switched to 'charge only' and attached my head phones, my phone went into a boot loop. i unplugged USB cord and bootloop stopped... anyone run into this at all? kinda frustrating since now i apparently can now longer attach to my pc.
any help would be greatly appreciated
win xp

So I picked an A7 last night at compusa. I tried to install the rom so I can run the google market place after rebooting it would just flash elocity on the screen and then reboot. So I got booted in to recovery mode and went to re-flash it with the latest firmware. Now when I power it on on the screen powers on for a split second and then powers down and I can't get it in to recovery mode. Well It's going back to the store to get exchanged. Any ideas on when I did wrong so I won't do it to the next one?
Only press and hold bottom power for 10-15 seg
Press and hold the power button for 15-25 seconds till you see the robot, then touch the home to enter recovery.
search: move up
return: move down
home: enter recovery
menu: select
MAKE SURE you clear the cache before and after ROM installation. You may have to do system wipe (factory reset) as well.

I did the same thing to mine. I did not clear the old data out before i flashed the new. After I cleared data out and reflashed it was fine.
Press power like you were turning on the device until the green lights come on
Release, then press (and hold?) power until you see "Hold Power for Recovery Mode" on the screen
Release, then press and hold power again until you see the recovery menu start to boot
It will reboot to an android with an exclamation point, this is the recovery menu
Then to navigate this screen, use HOME to display the menu text, Search = Up, Back = Down, Menu = enter.
go down and wipe data/reset
it will confirm thats what you want to do
then get back to menu and apply sdcard: update zip
it will do a little bit then go up to reboot system now
and apply and it
hope that helps
So I tried for several hours last night to get in to recovery mode. All I could do was get the screen to flash for a split second then stay blank. Took it back to the compUSA store today and they exchanged it no questions asked. So I tried flashing the mod again today something on the getting to the elocity screen and rebooting. But I got it back in to recovery reset it to factory defaults and flashed it to the newest firmware update and I was good. So the newest update comes with apps that can only be bought in the marketplace.. What is up with that?

Hello to all of you!
My Tattoo has gone crazy lately...he deleted all my contacts, pictures and reset the settings...all when I switched it off and then turned it on. Ok I survived...
But yesterday when I turned my Tattoo on...he was stuck on the Tattoo screen and it was restarting itself on and on again...with no luck...then I pressed the buttons for hard reset, then the picture of the yellow exclamation mark appeared, and now I'm stuck with this Android System Recovery-which it's not working, I can't select anything, none of the buttons works...What Can I DO???? I have never made no changes to my tattoo, so it's not rooted or anything.
the system recovery says:
Android System Recovery
Use trackball to highlight;
click to select.
reboot system now [Home+back]
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

Could someone tell me what to do now...please
Please someone?? I really don't know what to do!! I need my phone! PLEASE
Try downloading stock ROM from here http://htcpedia.com/official_rom_htc_wwe_for_htc_click_tatoo/soft/htc-tattoo-rom/download.html
Then try installing this ROM from Windows...I thing that you need to have htc sync also...
Thank you for helping me, I really appreciate it.
But that's the problem, my pc won't recognize the phone, I have installed the htc sync but when I insert the phone from usb nothing happens. and i can't go into the phone to check if usb debug is on or off. I also tried with adb but it says device not found....so I think there's nothing I can do...

Can you see some of these options? Did you try to download some of custom ROM and rename it to update.zip and then put it in root of sdcard and apply it? Im little confused with this....
Yes I see all of these options, but the problem is I can't select them or anything because none of te buttons work! I tried to put the ROM on the root of the sd card, but it make no sense because I cant select the option apply update.
Try Power+Home button (that is for recovery menu, but if your tattoo isnt rooted you should see only triangle with exclamation sign inside), then plug usb cable and then try installing stock ROM from post above...
With power+home button I see the recovery menu...it's just that nothing work in the recovery menu. I tried plugging the usb...the PC won't recognize it.
I told you I tried everything... I guess it's a hopless case
What about this?
To reset the phone using phone buttons
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the HOME and BACK buttons, and then briefly press the END CALL/POWER button.
2. Press the ENTER button to begin the reset process.
Tip If your phone hangs or freezes, remove the battery then wait for a few seconds, and then re-install it. After re-installing the battery, turn on the phone.
This one is the same but has a pic of tattoo...
http://www.howtoreset.com/HTC_Units/HTC_Tattoo_Hard_Reset_Soft_Reset.html
ha...this was my first try...unsuccsessful...it's like he can't do nothing else-just showing the triangle with exclamation mark and if I press home and power goes into recovery which doesn't work....that's all he can do..
F*uck i'm all out of ideas...
Yeah...don't tell me...

Here is what you can do:
After you started RUU wait until you get the prompt to proceed or until you get the usb error and don't close the application
Go to temp folder to get the rom.zip file
to go to temp folder type %TEMP% in the run command bar
copy the rom.zip to your favourite place and rename it to CLICIMG.zip
Now you can close the RUU install
place CLICIMG.zip in root of memory CARD and turnoff your phone
Boot in to HBOOT mode (power button + volume down keys)
wait for few seconds and install would start
I hope you have a memory card reader to place the file in to it
key for this to work is, you need to have right Tattoo RUU to get ROM.zip or have a goldcard to work any Tattoo RUU derived ROM.zip
True, i forgot about that
Thank you fo helping me. I tried but it doesn't work. The volume keys won't work...
can you check if you could boot to fastboot mode (hold both power button and back button)
From there you can
either reset your phone (menu button)
reboot to HBOOT (action button - centre button)
change to HBOOT (volume down button) - l know it doesn't work for you
or turn off the phone (left button)
If none of the buttons work, then you might need to send your phone to the doctor
Nope...it doesn't work....not to the doctor i will send the phone to the trash...
Alright everyone, I have an NC that I rooted quite awhile ago to great success. However, in my quest for updating to ics, I completely deleted everything. Buttons don't work, and for some reason I can't have it access my computer's hard drive because it won't turn on.
So, if anyone has any ideas for fixing it, it would be much appreciated. All I think I need is the original NC software (everything) and a way to put it on the hdd that I can't access. Thanks in advance.
I think you should be able to make (or re-use) a CWM card and use it to install a fresh rom. Unless it's totally borked, the NC should still boot first from the SD card.
I would, but the only problem is that I cannot even get the device to power on, the buttons don't work.
Edit: Here's the deal, I just need the damned thing to power up for me so I can mount the sdcard and restore it. But whatever utility makes the buttons work, is gone - they aren't just merely broken. So I can press the buttons and the kernel or whatever it is that interacts with the buttons will not understand what is going on because the utility is not there.
If anyone has a solution for either powering it on via usb (with the device off) or getting the buttons to work again, great.
Can anybody access their NC cwm for me and try to find whatever it is that I deleted? It has something to do with buttons or what not.
Are you holding the power button on for several seconds.. Until the screen flashes?

^ What he said. Sometimes I have to hold the power down for quite a while, or try it several times. This is usually after an SOD (it may help to have it charging too).
Yes and yes. I hold it for quite awhile. Still does nothing.
Have you tried holding down the n button along with the power button?
Hold both for 10 seconds. Release. Hold power button alone for 10 seconds. Sometimes it takes 2 or three cycles of holding down both buttons, then the power.button to get the nook reset.

Just because the screen does not flicker, and you can’t access the file system from your computer using a USB cable, does not mean that the device has not powered on. I can format the whole file system, and the power button will turn it on every time. For turning on the device, the power button is independent of the file system.
It sounds like you have just screwed up the files in the boot partition. I screwed up my device to this point more than a couple times. I had the same none flickering screen, and no file system access from a USB cable. The NC is programmed to boot from a SD card before internal storage, there is really no way that you could have screwed it up to the point that it won’t continue to do that. Below are the steps that I have always taken to get back to a working device,
*fully charge the device, this is very important, because the device might have been on this whole time, and you just could not see it
*Download the stock 1.2 update.zip found HERE, get the “update-nc-stock-1.2-signed.zip” file
*Now download the file to make a bootable CWM card found HERE
*Follow the directions in that post to make your bootable CWM card, then place the “update-nc-stock-1.2-signed.zip” file onto that card
*Put the bootable CWM card into your NC
*Hold the power button, and count to 3, then let go
*If after a count to 10, nothing has appeared on the screen, repeat the last step, you most likely just turn the device off.
*This time CWM should load up, select “wipe cache partition,” followed by “wipe cache partition”
*Now scroll down to and select “mounts and storage”
*Now scroll down to and select “format /boot”
*When that has completed, you will then select “install zip from sdcard”
*Then select “choose zip from sdcard,” and select the “update-nc-stock-1.2-signed.zip” file
*If you receive an error at the very start of the install process, you need to select “toggle script asserts,” to disable script asserts
*When that has completed, remove the card, select reboot the device, and boot the device no SD card in it
Your device should now boot just like stock. At this point you should be back to a completely stock NC.
Report back with any results, good or bad.
Is it necessary to format /system and /data as well if changing between firmware?
Can't try it just yet, but after I'm done traveling it will be top-priority.
My mom bought a used Moto Bravo and inserted her sim in it for it to say "SIM card is removed or changed. Log in to your MOTOBLUR account to unlock". She doesn't have one and does anyone know how to bypass or erase the current one?
What you should do is a factory reset which will delete all accounts and reset settings to stock as if the phone were new (also will delete any apps you've downloaded)
1. Power the phone off
2. Once off, Press the power button and volume down keys at the same time until you see the M logo and continue holding the volume down button.
2. You should now see a little android and exclamation point, release the button... now press both volume buttons at the same
time.
3. Now you should be in a small menu, scroll down using the volume keys and select the factory reset option using the power button, confirm and let it do its thing without interrupting it.
4. Once it says its complete you should now do the same thing only wipe the cache, it might say cache partition I can't remember
5. Once that's done you can now select the option to reboot your phone. (It may take a while on this first boot up)
You should be fine after that... post if you have results or issues.
*Im not responsible if you mess your phone up.
