I don't think, that HTC has given up on the HD2, yet.

...either there will be a statement about HD2 being "transformed" into a WP7S-device with an update, or HTC might tell us that they have prepared WM 6.5.x for the HD2
Nobody knows yet....but I don't think HTC has "left us"
The last update has been 2-3 weeks ago... what do you expect seriously? I also don't think that the next update will contain WM6.5.x-crap. If the HD2 is meant to get an WM7-update then I'm almost sure that HD2 won't get this version. But all we can do is speculating...

What I seriously think is that there is a chance, that we will get a WM 6.5.3 update.
Yes, it's been 3 weeks since the last ROM, and so? The ROM before that was released in the beginning of December, so about 7 weeks.
...and when is MIX'10? In about a month....so why does this sound so wrong? Especially if the US models get the 6.5.3 ROM, then it wouldn't be so hard to make a version for the unbranded HD2
But yes, we don't know what might og might not happen
if they want to update hd2 to 6.5.3 they would have updated it in the 1.66 roms i think the next update will not be 6.5.3
they really should make an update because there are still so many unsolved issues that really annoy us users (sms lag, ...). Maybe they are already working on it and it will be released when there is a stable version of the newest windows build.
What about win6.5.3 combine with the new version of sense ?

We will properly get a 2.00 Rom with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and some updates included. Maybe a new Youtube Client? Which would allow you to access your youtube account like you can Iphone?
But in my opinion getting an official WM7 HD2 upgrade is a likely as me being invited home by some random woman on this or any friday(Which is very unlikely!)

If we believe HTC on twitter:
'for Diamond 2 firmware is not planned. Of the existing communicators on the market, only the HD2 firmware to get WM7'
think you better keep your friday nights free towards the end of the year when the OS is eventually released!!!
i think that 6.5.3 update can be a concrete possibility....i don't want to believe that Htc could leave us without this update....
Sorry if this has been posted before and sorry for another windows 7 post but what about this news:

this sounds like good news to me ill buy it when it comes out and window 7 is just a plus. but id get this phone window 7 or not. if windows 7 isnt upgradeable then im sure android will make its way to the phone after the htc bravo comes out similar hardware

they are only talking about wp7 series development and apps no phones will be mentioned
Did you see Engaged Show with Aron Woodman form Microsoft? If you don't, watch it! Host ask "It will be upgrade for HD2?" Answer:"More information at MIX10".
i think its highly likely that windows 7 makes it to hd2. for a couple of reason if not then why would he say to wait for mix10, second adobe would know what what where and why they are working flash 10 for. i mean they are specific with the devices getting adobe 10 not android 2.1 but nexus. last but not least window7 is late to the show if a plateform has the juice to run it. i think they will best served to get it on as many phones as possible asap. as the apps will give them money this time not the os. more phone with the os potentially more apps to be sold
I heard that WinMo 7 wasn't coming to the HD2 because it did not qualify. The stated reason was that MS has changed the HW requirements for WinMo 7 in that any WinMo 7 phone can only have 3 buttons at the bottom. The HD2 has every other requirement except that; it has 5 buttons at the bottom. Now, I have an HD2 and want WinMo 7 on it. but that was the word I saw recently. I hope the article was wrong. I will find the link and post it (if that is proper.)

Actually I'd say it's more related to the fact Windows Phone 7 min requirements requires 8GB of internal flash memory, since Apps wont be installable to the SD card.

That was the most 'legit' statement of the HD2 getting 7 Series till a few weeks ago...
BUT, It went like this:
-FIRST, they said the 1st Windows Mobile device to get flash 10.1 will be the HTC HD2.
-THEN, they said that they are not developing Flash 10.1 for Windows Mobile 6.5 anymore, because it is missing some 'important stuff' blabla. They are going to focus on getting flash on 7 Series.
AKA, the HTC HD2 is not getting 7 Series, nor Flash 10.1. Which again, was working quite well in that video Adobe showed us a few days before MWC.
sad to say but it think this phone has just died............. smh oh well i get my nexus one 2morrow.......

This was posted weeks ago.
And, for the record, only an idiot would interpret the original posts on the Adobe forum in this way, and only a gullible, unthinking person would repost the story without checking the original forum posts that were the source of the "story".
What happened was that, back in January, Adobe was still planning to release FlashPlayer 10.1 for WM6.x. They announced this, and mentioned that the HD2 would be the first WM6 phone to run it. By February, there had been a major change of plans, and the release of FlashPlayer for WM6.x had been cancelled, thus invalidating the January announcement entirely. Adobe therefore posted a new announcement saying that they had cancelled the WM6.x project, but that they intended to develop FlashPlayer for WP7S.
That's all.
After today's press conference it looks like there are many cool new features coming with the Mango update. I guess we'll have to wait some time to see it fully functional at our HD2
I can't wait!
I really can't wait either! God, I love my WP7 cell now! Can't stand using Android with all the bugs! MANGOOOO!
Moved your non developmental thread over to the general section.

Josh

We must wait for DFT Sir
Vegas?
We should have a bet going. Over or under.
Over = Mango on our HD2 on or sometime after Windows official release.
Under = Mango on our HD2 before Windows official release.
What do you guys think? Can we get a line at one of the casinos lulz!?!?!
My bet: Under, as I hope so because I don't know if I can wait more than three more months!

i would bet for "under" too, but if i had to pick a month it would probably be september.
i find it's very improbable for us to have it waaaay before the official release.

That's great! If MS releases Mango to devs as soon as 4 weeks time, then hopefully someone or DFT can port it to our HD2 shortly after. But the thing is, i've heard rumors that DFT has Mango already on our phone. I haven't heard anything that is definite though.
So from what I gather, when MS releases Mango it will not include HD2 but we have to wait until someone port a rom for HD2?
I own a HD7 right now and unhappy with the phone because of no visible SD slot (unless I risk voiding warranty and mod it), no custom ringtone , no flash support, no bluetooth sync with my PC for file transfer... all of which Ballmer promises will be fixed in Mango. Oh and also no Android rom for HD7.
All of those reason make me wanna downgrade to a HD2 that has a SD slot and Android rom but my concern is it will take too long for HD2 to get Mango port.
Also, how stable is the Android rom for HD2? Particularly with Market apps. I once owned a Chinese clone of Diamond II dual boot with WM6.5 and Android 2.2, but Android on that phone can't use most Market apps.
What should I do? Keep my HD7 and have faith in M$ and Balmer to fix the issues or downgrade to HD2 now?

I think u should stick with the HD7! WP7 Mango update will be sweeeeet! I've personally tried everything from WM6.5, Android and WP7 on the HD2, and I think Android is the worst OS of them. It's slow and ugly looking.. I will stick with WP7 for now couse it has all the main features I need and it looks cool and it's FAST!

I've never owned an HD7, but I played around with it a few times. To be frank, there wasn't much to play with! WP7 fun is potential and not actual. I'd take actual over potential any day of the week. So, we'll need something in the meantime while WP7 can go from potential fun to actual fun. The solution for that would be Android. It's a no risk if on SD. Don't like a particular rom just erase it and get another one. Best yet, lets get 2-3 builds at the same time! What's great about that is your WP7 is waiting patiently for you with a simple reboot. Can your HD7 do that? No? Get an HD2 my friend! You may even venture onto Linux if you care to.
Very well put. Just a few questions:
1. HD2 WP7 rom is not offical MS release right? So when MS release Mango, HD2 will have to wait until someone cooks the rom?
2. Is there a likelihood or some project in progress to create English Android rom for HD7? Is it even possible to do this without a SD slot? I saw some youtube video of Chinese version of Android rom for HD7 but it's hard to tell whether it's a HD7 clone phone or a real one.
If it wasn't for Ballmer's promise of 500 new features and all the hype floating around, I'd have got rid of this HD7 long ago.

1. Correct, as WP7 for HD2 is not official, there might be some waiting time. NoDo was pretty fast, though.
2. Maybe there is a project, but afaik, nothing available yet.

I just installed the beta 2 for the developers what is published today on my dell venue pro and I wanted to share my first impressions with the community. I will update this thread with my findings (positive or negative).
First some history:
I bought the phone in the US beginning of January. I live in Europe, Spain and I have my phone developer unlocked. So now you know where my phone came its maybe comparable for some of you here in the forums.
After update my phone have the following software specs:
DVP 8Gb model upgraded to 16gb
OS: 7661.WP7_6_Trial (mojobld).20110607-1657
Firmware: 2250.1500.7004.105
Hardware rev. 112.576.2.0
Radio software: 2.2.5.15
Radio hardware: 8250
Bootloader: 7.27.1.0
After update:
I noticed that the phone contained all my data, installed programs telephone numbers ect. what I didn't expect after doing any flash.
Positive points:
- Reaction speed is much better then NODO
- Stable OS (BETA 2 is mostly stable)
- The new functionality of course.
Negative point
- I noticed that background programs like eg. 4th and mayor are closing down out of them self. I'm not sure if multi-tasking is fully implemented.
- Some times I have a white glim's if I start an app in the overlay
Still need to try
- I have the feeling the software for the phone is indeed better but need some more testing.
- Somehow get a benchmark program to see if the performance is really better.
- I think the battery is also better but i'm not sure yet.
Maybe people who have access to the beta can also share their experience. I can confirm the BETA will not brick our phones
Here you can download the beta. There is a manual to install without dev unlocked device!

Ah..You beat me to it... I too just installed it and its awesome first impressions. Its super buttery smooth and fast. I installed my update on the FW beta testing unit.
So the FW is 212 and rest all the same for mango.
Takeaway: DVP will get the Mango update and it works.
I will report back with more info.

both of you beat me jerks! j/k
update ran smooth on both the firmware updated and non updated devices. The experience is fantastic. There is no question of that. Mango is a demon
I need to test on the old f/w but users let me say this. New update + mango == you may think you are in mobile heaven
It's really funny that the devices are using 2 year old tech for all intents and purposes and it is outperforming android by leaps and bounds!
I should do a benchmark
can we update to Mango beta first, then only upgrade the firmware when it comes out? or is it better to wait until the firmware update is applied before installing Mango beta?

If you don't have a spare device, i would recommend waiting it out for the FW to come and then update to Mango beta. All sources info lead to FW only update and no OS level update - still i would be cautious..becos you don't want the Mango experience to be ruined by the wifi crash.
Firmware and BetaMango?
Ok guys my phone is a junk right now mostly lockups and phone issues. Any help with finding downloading and installing the FW along with Mango? I would be very thankful.......

For sure. People are looking for 32GB WP7 phones but the Dell is not mentioned despite being the first OEM to ship legit 32GB devices. They would have been second only to Samsung IMO for best WP7 device. Should have got on top of the issues we reported faster letting positive word of mouth spread and capitalised on the form factor but I have to say, they seemed strangely uninterested in actually making an impact (even with the Venue android version). And the resulting bad rep is now really affecting their perception. Sad.
Without question...
What remains to be see is if they can do something to regain a lot of what they lost. I think if they make the concessions right they can convince a lot of customers to talk highly of Dell and that would go a long way.
If they just drop the firmware and continue as if nothing happened then the last memory they will have in many people's minds is the failed DVP start and that can sag their reputation for a LONG time. Ford comes to mind in that regard...
Back to Topic - One good thing with DVP and Mango compared to other devices:
Since DVP never had much homebrew action due to it not exposing API's as other vendors, it became a good thing with Mango. The reason is now Homebrew apps are either killed or don't work with Mango beta. I feel sad for HTC folks I am sure they will resurrect.
But the approved homebrew solution from chevronlabs should remedy that, right? BTW what is the best thing about Mango in everyday use?

One thing i am noticing with Mango is if one uses the full Mango experience, the battery will be drained in 1/2 day. I used my phone the same way as i would+Mango and it drained in 8 hrs. Pre-Mango, i used to get 15 hrs.
I am excited about Mango coming very soon.
Microsoft just released a new version of Zune today.
Go get it. Mango is coming
Zune looks good but I hate some things.
I hate how Apps section works.
When you scroll the applications, you cannot see the app logo image, the image is scrolled also with the list.
Images are supposed to tell you a lot more then the title.
Zune sucks at this in my opinion.
How many of you have ate a mango anyway
I don't still see that update i buy phone from t mobile
