A new OTA update is rolling out for the Hero.

Keep in mind that they usually undo root.
Wait until the DEVs have sorted it out.

it depends on how you rooted. If you did the long form, you won't get OTA's, if you one clicked, I think you will, BUT with s-off it doesn't matter, because even if it "unroots" you you can flash a recovery from hboot, and then flash a rooted rom or nand restore, and you're good, so don't worry.
Or, go here, and look for how disable OTA updates at the end of the OP.

This is the same as the OTA released on May 12th 2011 and is the MR1. Confirmed by me this morning. This file will wipe /data. It is possible to back up, and do an advanced restore of just data on most sense roms.
Not responsible for damage or losses caused by this firmware. Use at your own risk. Flash it was an RUU (like in the root guides), not using recovery. This will only flash on a s-off device, it is unsigned. This will wipe your data.
This is a rooted version of
PG05IMG_Mecha_VERIZON_WWE_1.13.605.7_Radio_1.16.00.0402w_NV_8k_1.41_9k_1.64_release_182727_signed.zip
hboot, and recovery have been removed to maintain root. Su/Superuser have been added (thanks rmk and chainsdd). adbD has been set to run as root in the kernel's ramdisk.

a99e220f819b759b2cf1896b5611c1a7 PG05IMG_MR1_rooted_unsigned.zip
For a signed version see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041973 (DO NOT FLASH ON A ROOTED DEVICE)
To revert a rooted device back to rooted stock see http://www.multiupload.com/Y9LP6S6WSP

Yes, you can but it's a pain in the butt. Go to this thread and then download the original stock firmware. Make sure USB debugging is turned on also.
To install the file you need to have HTC Sync installed and running. Double-click the file and it should recognize the phone and start installing after some input from you.
If you get a USB error, try booting into the bootloader and installing the exe in the same manner.
I just did this last night because I was in the same situation. It works.
Now you can re-root.

It's still the same update. Whether I installed it through an OTA update or from the bootloader doesn't matter.
You guys can get into the bootloader right? Take one of those modified "official" updates, rename it to PG06IMG.zip and flash it from the bootloader. Then do my first post and flash to Froyo so you can root again. May be worth a shot.

Just install one of the many custom gingerbread roms once its rooted, you never have to take on ota to update your phone, thats the best part of rooting, once its rooted upgrade or downgrade your os when ever you want, i rooted on 2.2 still have the eng bootloader and im running the most packed sense gingerbread roms for the shift its almost 3.0

No, you'll have to manually accept the update. There's actually a way to turn off the ota notification, its just been so long since I've used a Sense ROM I don't remember exactly where it is in settings.

there's no known way to "relock" the bootloader, the only thing available is that you won't see the "unlocked" at the top,but bootloader still will be unlocked.

the android with the exclamation mark is the stock recovery as far as i know
From what I have seen in the forums, when flashing the SBF you have to, at the very least, redo the fastboot commands for unlocking > "fastboot oem unlock". I have used RSD three times and I always just re-flashed pudding. Whether or not "pudding" is necessary to run the commands I have no idea.

Yes. It said it flashed ok, but when trying to reboot into recovery it says Failed to boot 2, Entering RSD mode. But I went into fastboot and did fastboot reboot, so it didn't brick or anything like that.
