Hay,
If anyone has seen the xoom play flash after the 3.1 update it can handle 720p YouTube videos from within the browser, and it can play them smoothly,
Is it just me or can your tf not play YouTube 720p flash smoothly .. try this link, my tf doesn't play this smoothly, does yours, now i dont have a xoom ti try this link, so if anyone does ,feel free to give your feedback,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSGBVzeBUbk
Not to say its not better than before, because its much better, but I suppose I was expecting smoother,
So if you could give it a go I would much appriate it, and if these any xoom owners also, could you give me your experience
Thanks
like butter...
i only watched the first 10 seconds, since i actually watch that on 3.0.1 to test playback, and even then, it's buttery smooth.
I don't need a signature.
you sure you changed it to 720p. Also are u using a tf
I tried it on my TF and it lags while playing in small screen, but it's smooth after I switched it to full screen mode. I am using Dolphin HD in case you are wondering. And yes, I switched it to 720p.
Yea that's same experience as I'm getting. Wonder if that other guy switched to 720p for his butter ..

I have no issues very smooth and it was in HD
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
It lags using stock browser when it's set on 720p
On dolphin HD it lags only when the browser agent is set to Desktop
720p minor lag with the default browser. 1080p lags big time. Same video using the youtube app at 1080p smooth. The videos that are on the youtube app are they flash?
The video runs great on my iPad of course that's not 720p though lol
It runs pretty bad on 720p on my Transformer if it's not full screen. When I set it to full screen it runs pretty darn smooth, very minor lag. I use the stock browser.
It runs perfect on the YouTube app, not sure what resolution that runs at though.
yup, smooth on 720p. although i did do the about:debug trick, seems to suffer some skipped frames without it. smooth either way on full screen.
and to inquiring minds:
1) type "about:debug" on the url bar of your stock browser. nothing will immediately happen.
2) click on the menu, you will notice 2 new entries there (but these are not what you want)
3) go to settings, an you'll notice a new tab "debug"
4) go there, and uncheck (notice, UNcheck) "use wide viewport"
you'll notice your browser is generally snappier, i guess this includes flash playback. also, you'll have to "about:debug" everytime your browser restarts. you don't need to redo all the "use wide viewport" stuff after that though.

it was super smooth buti can't play videos on ESPN it worked when i very first got it any recommendations?
Ok so this is strange how are we getting such different results for the same video lol

My transformer slutters even on 480p big buck bunny video on youtube.com (not the app), it only gets smooth in full screen, can anyone point me to some kind of solution ?
My tf is 3.1 last update and factory reset is done... Flash is up to date, yet all the flash performance in the stock browser is mediocre at best...
yea that's similar to mu performance , only in full screen does it even out,, but I wouldn't call it super smooth at any point on 720p
What's funny is that in the youtube app the same video plays perfectly at 1080p
so definitely there is a software fix that NEEDS to come from asus for the stock browser performance. I don't think adobe themselves will release an optimized version of flash for the transformer. Even tho they "released" an "optimized" version of flash for tegra, which is the current one that sucks so hard.
It's weird how at first 720 wouldn't play full screen and now it's reversed. It's ok though. I prefer it play full screen at least. This is with 3.1 and user agent desktop.
For those having issues, why not just change the agent to ipad, android, or iphone?
That's probably what the ones in the stores are set to so of course they're playing smooth.

I have the same problem. Go to espn3 to watch videos, and the screen will show "LOADING" indefinitely. Other sites seem to be OK. This is not a problem with my network, since the other computers on the same network have no trouble.
Tried different user agents, same result. Also tried both the default browser and the Dolphin HD, same result.

Just saw it on the market. Anyone knows what's new?
nope, but from use seems to work a little more accurate with making fullscreen and selecting the position in movie play back
I noticed improvement increases in video playback.
Videos that used to be semi-choppy are now buttery smooth. Flash is shaping up VERY nicely on Android. Pretty awesome stuff.

Yep i used to avoid using browser to playback vids but now they play as smooth as the youtube app
Do you guys think flash is hardcare accelerated now?
lol, how is it accelerated?!
yep, its a bit more accurate with the touch screen and videos seem to load and play a little smoother.
So glad I can now change the volume in lots of videos without zooming in..
Still some work to be done, but its getting better for sure.
Any chance of getting a hacked version of the newest flash to work with Hulu, etc?
I have read through all of the "issues" threads and there seems to be a lot of inconsistancy except for the gmail widget(I don't use it anyway). Has anybody had marked improvements over 3.0? Any less FC's or SOD's?
I ask because I am very happy with my Tf so far and am kind of reluctant to install.
So far everything seems basically the same. I didnt lose my widget but my gtalk application keeps saying its lost connection to the server despite it being on a known to be reliable data connection and actively surfing. Not sure if thats really 3.1 though.
Its better for me. Did not lose gmail widget; YouTube is much better; Browsing seems better. Need to play more to see what else, and validate better browsing.
The battery seems to stay longer than before (with the dock), i have charged it this afternoon till around 2pm and up till now (10:45pm) it is still at 100%, with no light flashing from the keyboard dock battery indicator.

Yeah I should note that the youtube app plays videos well now.
I only had a few hours with 3.0 but 3.1 is nice. There are a few FC issues and that's it.
I've had a few issues with 3.1... primarily that my TF seems to randomly reboot when sleeping. Its annoying.
But, its well worth the fact that youtube runs great and browsing has been better. Primarily youtube though, old firmware youtube was absolutely embarassingly bad. I didn't want to show my friends my sweet expensive gadget that couldn't play a video
So far no bad issue.
Not sure about this gmail widget as i do recall seeing one before. But my unit want to update to 3.0.1 when I got it.
What I have noticed
1. Better browser behavior
2. more controls on browser when set to appear.
3. Video playing is much better. I watch a podcast before 3.1 I could not watch there HD videos. Know I can.
My honest opinion is that this was a step in the right direction but it better not be the last step. Though youtube app is playing better and more controls in the browser, expandable widgits are good there are still issues. There's little hitches in general from time to time and flash still doesnt seem like it plays all that well. Overall it's a good step but not the super improvement some of the reviews have stated.
Videos play slightly smoother but still not silky smooth. I've tried encoding the videos many many times with both baseline (yes even baseline) and high profile handbrake presets from another thread, but the video still lags compared to playing the same video on my desktop. Is anyone else facing the same problem or is it just me?
I still don't have the dock update which is a bit more critical in my book since I sold my laptop. Typing in the browser just stinks. I'm glad I'm a fairly accurate typist. The tablet itself seems a bit snappier. Videos play a bit smoother. I just want my typing speed.
High profile h.264 playing, smoother UI. I never got any SOD's anyway. And so few FC's that its tough to tell if that's better so soon. I'm _very_ happy.
I do still want a little more, E.G. it looks like there is mkv container support in 3.1 but the file extension isn't plumbed in for some reason. I'd also like a portrait mode for the market.
So after theupdate i figured id start freah and did a facrory reset
Ive notcied my boot up time tobe faster.
Doesnt hang on the asus logo for long anynore
I'd appreciate others adding to this thread as they install 3.1 in the coming days. I'm also 100% satisfied with my TF and don't want to start getting frustrated. I've now read reports of wi-fi dropout, random dock disconnect, decreased battery life, and random reboots after 3.1. I also use the Gmail widget a TON, so I'm a bit worried about losing that...
Thanks for the reports everyone!
video performance is far superior
hdmi support is far superior
Browser is a bit more flaky
a little concerned about the quadrant drop especially where it hags on the database test.
all in all worth it, but hopefully not the end.
I just replaced the Gmail widget with the email widget and added in my hotmail
You can get the gmail widget using muliple methods if you lost it in the update, stop being so damn lazy and look for the method and THEN complain about it.

In what way hdmi is supperior? It was working ok before here with the exception of too much cuts in the edges of the screen.
Does the stock music player workokay for you guys after the update? Some have said it stops when the screen is asleep. I guess it doesn't go to the next song right away.
Do or problem as well ?
Some streaming site worked well with 3.0.1
...and now the video is degraded with 3.1
I got same problem. Now flash movie on web site not run smooth as 3.01.
my personal experience is the opposite, like no question here at all, on 3.0.1 i would get stutters and laggy playback, and since the 3.1 update i have seen literally no lag or stuttering playing back 720p on imbedded video playback, youtube, anything. i keep seeing all these issue posts and threads about the 3.1 update but i am personally not experiencing any of them, my browser is an snappy as my ipad's browser, games/video playback anywhere (any quality) is perfect, navigation of any part of the os is snappier than before, battery life is exactly the same, i am happy with everything, i just want to be able to root 3.1 without adb and ill be 100% happy..

u can play 720p with no lag or skipping in youtube from browser? anyway u can take a video of that and post, would be helpfull. did u factory reset?
Why are you watching youtube using flash when we have an app that lets us view the video using hardware acceleration?
flash seems to have improved for me
My Flash has gotten so much worse in both the stock Browser and Dolphin that I have gone back to using my ipad1 whenever I want to access a site that has an ios version. It's strange that the degradation is only when you use the browser, not an app.

i did not factory reset, but i havent ever rooted because i wanted the 3.1 update from asus and i read about some disadvantages in primordial, but i really didnt do anything special, just the official update, and i definately meant youtube specifically from the youtube app itself, but from the browser streaming and playing 720p from imbedded videos and/or other means than youtube hasnt lagged on me either (yet** i dont have the invincible tf), the one video "provider" that just plain doesnt work is vimeo for me, i think its a flash 10.3 issue or something because when hitting play the box goes black and never plays. i was just relaying my experience, i think after an update or 2 honeycomb is really going to make apple nervous though
I can't watch ESPN videos anymore. Does anyone know why? I think it was a result of Flash 10.2 and not Honeycomb 3.1. I've done some searches, but I haven't found anything really for the transformer.
Does anyone else have this problem? It just shows up as a picture and never plays video.

you do not know that the net uses a lot of flash video with the same cuts completely different? Flash knows how to manage everything by cons if the hardware part is not done properly, Flash is degraded.

If you understand what I see.
Yes youtube work fine, but not all websites.

the above pictures highlight the problem perfectly, i have a second batch transformer and upgraded after first boot to 3.1 i was also thinking steve jobs was right re flash my ipad1 pisses all over my transformer, in every video test ive done, granted its rooted\jailbroken but at this moment apart from the dull UI the only thing it cant do is read anything over a 1 gig usb stick or sd card for movies. I now find it incredible how slick the ipad is with only 256mb ram. Even google are working away from flash. Still loving my transformer, but so wanted it to be everything my desire hd is compared to the iphone 4. I have even found my self going back to my ipad for invoicing and word processing, pages and numbers are slick. Come on google, this thing has loads of horse power and is running like a vw beatle.

Just a quick note to the above, i have just uninstalled flash 10.3 and adobe air and my tablet is running as fast as my ipad, html5 videos are working, flash is definatley buggy on honeycomb. Even when plugins were enabled on demand it was slow. Going to have acplay with a few options.
Hello,
Following the problems encountered, I wrote the team has adobe flash. After several exchanges of mail, they understood the problem. The person I spoke with said he passed the baton to the service of development, and they would arrange to get a tablet asus to see what happens.
Hi,
That's very helpful, thanks for the information. It's definitely something we want to look into.
I've opened a bug, and I have an email into our customer engineering team to try and get a tablet to test with.

i thought the latest version of honeycomb was supposed to enable hardware acceleration for flash? Seems no different to me or maybe flash adverts run smoother..had a Toshiba folio which was running 2.2 back in November last year. Flash seems to have not really improve since then. To be honest I am getting sick of waiting and wonder if this is down to limitations of the tegra chip again? I want to be able to watch BBC I player in HD. Just stutters. Definately think if the frame rate improved it would look amazing on the transformer. Standard play black looks very pixelated. Ipad performance in term of playback is miles better on the Iplayer site (know the BBC would of optimised performance for the ipad) whole point of having flash on a tablet is sites like Iplayer should run smooth without special support.
i dont have laggy flash...?

weird... i don really have much laggy experience with flash since HC update...
then again, maybe the site i visit doesnt have that much flash
Have i tried maximising the screen? Yes it makes playback even worse lol. Flash is pants, works for adverts and SD video if you are lucky again thought 3.1 was going to enable harware acceleration. Are my expectations to high to expect smooth HD video performance of flash on utube and BBC I player.....

Hmmmmm. Most posts I have read disagree. You Tube only works smoothly via the app. I player is smooth but only when watching Sd video. If you try and stream anything HD it falls over.. You have to change the settings in your browser to appear as a desktop otherwise the bbc website defaults to mobile and all content is standard definition. Things like the BBC HD channel won't even be listed. Sorry the other person who posted that flash performance on the Asus was just as good as their desktop must have a poo PC........

The test video does not load. I have a 30 mb broadband connection but it is only showing just over 3mbps for utube speed average and my connection to the router is 72 mbps which i thought is fairly good. May have a quick play with my wireless router.
For those with flash lags, what site(s) is this happening on? I'd love to test them out. Flash has been quite solid, but it's not working on the browers I use (Firefox, Opera, etc.).

No lag here.
There's no lag with 420p were getting lag with 720p wich was supposed to be fixed in 3.1 and it was clearly not
Well i read this could be an issue with my ISP virgin media. However, not sure how likely this is my PC performance with both youtube and iplayer is excellent. Unless this is a specific issue with android and my router which is possible. Sorry can I check again can anyone in the uk access BBC Iplayer with watchable playback in HD? Could be a wider issue with some types of routers. Anyone getting more than a 72mbps connection speed to their router.

I haven't got my TF with me, but it runs fine on a macbook.
Hi. I am looking for an Android tablet for my wife so that she can watch Flash content on the go. We went to the local Best Buy to check out the Samsung Galaxy Tab, Asus Transformer, and the Kindle Fire. I was able to load up the website on each device and my wife found that the videos that she wanted to watch worked best on the Kindle while the other two had choppy playback. It made me wonder if the Silk browser had something to do with performance.
Since it seems that the release date for the Kindle Fire 2 is later than previously thought, I had some questions since I wish to purchase the device before we go on vacation. I am wondering if the Kindle Fire 2 will support Flash through its Silk browser (given that Adobe has given up on mobile support). Does the Nexus 7 with sideloaded Flash and Firefox Beta perform well and how does it compare to the current Kindle Fire using Silk? Does the website matter for performance?
The site in question is a Korean video site (for soaps) which sometimes redirects to another site and sometimes to Youtube. Since I can't read the website, I can only rely on my wife to choose her videos. We have already tried out the iPad with Photon, but the video was too choppy for her.
For the timing of purchase, I also wonder if the August 15th date for Adobe Flash availability will make a difference.
Thanks for your thoughts

With sideloaded Flash and the latest Aurora browser http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/aurora/ I can watch 720p t.v shows on BBC iPlayer with no hiccups, flash performance is excellent. The website will matter for the speed from which you download the flash content but will not affect the actual performance of the flash plug-in (this is browser dependent for the most part).
Go for the Nexus 7, but remember Adobe is pulling mobile flash support for all devices, to get flash running on anything in the future you're gonna have to sideload and use a different browser than Chrome for Android no matter which device. Obviously I don't know for certain but I would think the Kindle Fire 2's default browser would adhere to these guidelines and be lacking flash support––but I may be wrong of course.

I play the kongregate game, Tyrant. It lags really bad. In the tablets' defense, my PC does not fair much better. I only used xscope browser, maybe others fair better.
Flash is unsupported by adobe. Not Google.
I am not saying its google fault that there is no flash. But I am saying the device is way too basic. This technology looks like 3 years old.

I'm guessing that you are referring to the Nexus 7. The person whom you quoted didn't seem to think there was any lag. If you are returning the Nexus, what didn't you like? Which tablet are you going to replace it with? Which one would you suggest for Flash content?

I read a few threads in regards to Flash support for the Kindle Fire. It seems that the Silk browser has Flash support built in. The user has the option to turn on or turn off this feature. As expected, having this feature does slow web browsing. I'm wondering if Amazon's servers have any effect on video streaming of Flash content. All the tablets I mentioned above could run Youtube (from the browser) when Flash was installed. But only the Kindle Fire could smoothly play the video my wife wanted. Odd, considering that the Kindle Fire's specs are below the newer devices.
If you can link me directly to any videos, then I'd be glad to try them out for you. I just tried 1080p videos from YouTube and it played them without a hitch. I don't think that I've encountered any problems with flash video yet.

Thanks. I'm afraid that I don't understand the video, but one can tell if the video is choppy. We currently have DSL 3 Mbps speeds, but when we travel, I'll probably have 1.5 Mbps using DataJack (which uses the Sprint network).

The original link is through a Chinese website which my wife can't read. She uses netsko.com to help her sort through the videos. The link above is one of many links to various Korean soaps.
Thanks again for the help.
The playback was completely smooth but it seems like the audio is delayed by half a second or so. You'll have to let me know if this audio delay is inherent to the video (or is the audio dubbed and I can't tell?).

My wife states that both videos on our laptop are synchronized. Did you try it at full screen or directly from the webpage? Is there a difference? What is your internet speed or does that not make much of a difference? How did you set up your Nexus 7 with Flash (browser, sideloading, etc)? Do you have any tweaks to make your Nexus go faster?
Sorry for so many questions. Thanks again.

I've tried both and there's no difference. My internet connection is plenty fast, but even if it wasn't, it wouldn't affect the sync (it would just take longer for it to load). It shouldn't be a performance issue because the video and audio are both playing at full speed without any drops. It must be some kind of software issue, like maybe the video wrapper used by the website isn't fully compliant in some way (pure speculation on my part). As I mentioned earlier, 1080p video from YouTube worked just fine. This audio delay was present in both Dolphin Browser and the AOSP browser.
As far as my setup goes, I'm running SGT7 build 3 with motley kernel 1.0.12, and I restored Flash and Dolphin Browser from Titanium Backups. I've overclocked my cpu to 1.624ghz and my gpu is overclocked to 520mhz.
The nexus 7 performs flash well, but not excellent. for some reason, all flash content is displayed at what appears to be 320x240 from what i see. ex
Watching youtube in firefox beta
Flash games in firefox beta
Could be firefox, could not. the nexus 7 is Definitely fast enough, but the question is does flash take advantage of tegra 3.

I hadn't tried Firefox beta until now, and it's definitely not playing flash correctly. Even when I set the YouTube video to 1080p, it still looks all pixilated. You should try Dolphin or the AOSP browser.

Are you using a Nexus 7? It sounds like you have rooted your device. Since I don't intend to root the device, how does stock Nexus 7 play with Flash? If you have a Nexus 7, is there a way for you to bring down your clock speeds to factory settings and play the videos again? Does rooting the device alter the playback performance?
Edit: I just chuckled to myself realizing the forum in which I post. I guess I would be hard pressed to find someone here who hasn't modded their device.

Are you locked to 320x240? That would kind of blow in terms of quality. I'm guessing that since Adobe is giving up, they weren't trying hard to work with any video processor. Have you tried the other browser suggested? Is your Nexus set at factory settings?
Flash Performance on anything is rubbish, it always was and it always will be.
Side-loading flash onto my Nexus 7 and using the Firefox Beta, it works great for me, but I don't use it I purely installed it because my dad was curious as to whether he could play *shudder* cafe world on facebook, which I figured would probably suck, and it did, but that game sucks on my gaming rig PC so it was not really a surprise.

I am not saying its google fault that there is no flash. But I am saying the device is way too basic. This technology looks like 3 years old.

I do think they had some manufacturing bugs to work out as I'm about to return mine for a screen flickering issue, but just it terms of raw spec's, a quad core cpu with additional low power idle CPU and a 12 core gpu in a high res (1280x800) 7" capacitive touch tablet with 10+ hours of constant use battery life, NFC, bluetooth 3.0, 12.5 days of standby is all amazingly new... for $199? (okay well $318 by the time it gets here in Australia with 16gb of storage on it, but still)

Of course I'm using a Nexus 7, haha. Yes, it's definitely rooted, and I can't comment about stock performance because I rooted and flashed a custom ROM immediately. I just set my cpu to stock (1.3ghz) and it still played the same. I can't change the gpu speed without flashing a new kernel, but I believe that flash is cpu-limited anyway (which is why they're moving away from flash) so it probably shouldn't really matter. Rooting in and of itself has no effect on performance, but it will allow you to do things that can affect performance, like flash custom ROMs and kernels, overclock, etc.
