Since ADB is required to root the Nexus can someone be kind enough to make a how to on how to use ADB? I'm new to Nexus, I came over from the EVO and never had to use ADB to root or flash, so if someone can make a how to on ADB I'm sure there would be alot of us that would greatly appreciated!

ADB is not necessary during rooting. Perhaps you are thinking of Fastboot???

i suppose a how to would be useful for beginners, i certainly don't have any quality experience with adb, just hours and hours of brain hurt. googe is my good friend though, and there lies some satisfaction to wasting a tremendous amount of effort over solving a simple problem.
asking specific questions might be quicker than waiting for an adb tutorial. somewhat helpful info on adb- hxxp://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/adb.html

Fastboot is apart of the ADB package...
you don't need a step-by-step the stickied threads will guide you through this:

Personally, I'd like to know exactly where fastboot comes from, and how to get it the "real way." I don't like having to scour the forums to download a working version of a basic tool. I'd rather learn how to do it myself.

It is a part of the Android SDK. You can download the SDK Manager from the official Android site and then install the platform tools package and you will have fastboot and adb.

I was able to find a working version for mac, but I just feel dirty, like I paid for sex. I don't want sloppy seconds. I want to get to know her, find out where she's from, learn what makes her tick. Then, after I really understand what she's all about, maybe I'll start pushing her buttons.

It is real.. sad part it I cant do anything with it.. but I wanna learn how to.
I'm downloading it now, we'll see what I can do with it. I've silently been compiling Dalvik and Chrome OS for the TouchPad and have a decent amount of experience with Assembly, cross-compiling, Java, etc. Let's get this **** done.
I guess there is some stupid bounty and everyone wants to be selfish and aim for the money. So it would be nice to get groups all over without other people yelling and trying to shut others down.
While pretty, this is utterly useless. It seems to have some userspace drivers like Wifi (woot) but it's missing the boot.img which contains the kernel. The hard part about porting Android is compiling the kernel, and this depressingly doesn't have it. All this is is a more helpful version of arm-linux-androideabi- compiled system, which is pretty normal. At least IMHO :\ I'd love to be told otherwise, though.

Alright, I can't look much more right now, but what I can tell you is that this dump has the boot.img (8.img), the system.img and the user data.img (either 12 or 13.img). It may also have a modem (?) of some sort, I've never seen the files before but looking at them, they appear to be the modem to the Evo 3D. That makes this a little...... odd?
i think the evo 3d and sensaton have the same processor as the touchpad wonder if that have something to do with what you seeing

Thank you for posting this here, OP.
Well, I work 9-5 at a computer company so I do have to get some work done I have a good amount of reverse engineering history, programming, and hacking around history, so this is pretty fun for me.
Some random observations:
This IS from Qualcomm, there are a lot of files that mention it and even two apk's that are by them.
HP obviously had a hand in this because the device is called Topaz in the build.prop file, which was HP's codename for it.
I'll look more into it now

Big happenings recently in the Touchpad realm. Touchdroid, one of the groups who was developing Android for the HP Touchpad, has decided to release a dump of their build, along with instructions on how to install it. I have recorded my own installation in hopes that others might benefit from it.
Two things:
1. Please follow the steps listed here http://touch-droid.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2
2. Be aware that this is not the Cyanogenmod version, and there are a few items that are not quite working yet.
Here is the link to the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhWVmMYquYY
Happy Flashing!
Now, the usual disclaimer: If this bricks your Touchpad.... bummer, dude.
Also, I am aware that an amazing build will eventually be released from Cyanogen. I am excited about this. The touchdroid build is just to tinker with.
:::UPDATE:::
If you want to uninstall this, here is a video explaining how:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKRp3ldtAjU
agreed. Even if their devteam is knowledgeable I will not install their port because of the logs I've read.
Craig
This is the beginning of it all...^^ Android is damn near now... thx!
Please keep in mind that this build is incomplete and buggy. That being the case, this is only recommended to those that care less about the source (we already know all about that) and more about tinkering with it. Use it if you like, but keep the arguments out. Thanks.
Interesting, although its VERY incomplete. I can only surmise that this is a "just to get it out there" kind of thing.

The comments on the video are already entertaining.
People, if you don't have any idea what this is, where it comes from, or why it's being posted..... DON'T INSTALL IT!!!!
If some idiot (me ) puts a video on the intertubes, it does NOT mean that you need to follow it. Watch it, learn from it, but if you don't like the outcome.....DON'T INSTALL IT!!!!!
Also, I total get why people bail from giving even the smallest amount of help to others. Nobody asked me to do this video, I just saw a need for it and made it. And... I'll do it again once cyanogen's stuff comes out for it.
Haters gonna hate, I guess.

How did you go back to previous screen without back button?
Also does anyone know if once the CM version is released the flashing process might be a little easier for the average user? I am not too comfortable with entering commands everywhere. reverend made it look easy because he was obviously familiar with entering command prompts. Either way I will be attempting it, just thought I would ask.

CM's release will be soon enough and will be fool proof. Unless you're reasonably familiar with the Linux terminal and ADB you're probably better off waiting. There's not much properly working on this version. You'll install it, play for ten minutes and them have to go back to waiting for a proper release. This is pre-alpha.

you can see he shot over adb commands
after have following the drama, around the stolen/lost code, I really think people should stop there personal [mod edit], and focus on getting android to the tp. As I see it this, android dump, is touchdrods way of saing: We [mod edit] up, and we are sorry. I also understand that they are stopping the project. So lets all stop the flaming, and wait for the CM, or another teams build! Just my 5 cents
Whats the point of tinkering with the Touchdroid build when the team has disbanded. I would stay away from this build since the CyanogenMod seems to be way ahead of the Touchdroid team anyways.

issent the point, that other teams can see touchdrods build, and use what they can from it. Like small twinks and stuff like that.
So, I'm going to try to bring this thread back on topic so,

Hey all,
I extracted the img file from the dev preview of 'L' from the Hamerhead version.
I'm new at this and it's really cool to explore and see how these things are built. Can I just pull the framework from 4.4.4 and throw it into the img and flash that?
What would it take to be able to flash this? I'm sure I can't, but maybe someone could enlighten me on what goes into this as I'm really interested in learning.
Thanks in advance!

Well, there are some guides for porting on XDA. However, since the Android L Source code isn't released yet, you cannot build it from source. So you would need to base it on a Kitkat rom. But since the radio, bootloader and apps from Android L require android L, you cannot just do that.
So a port would need to change drivers, frameworks and some other stuff I don't understand . However, some guys already started porting Android L to the Nexus 4, and , no offence, I think they are done much quicker as you (or me). So take a look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/android-5-0-discussions-rumors-t2780976/post53701458

There's a reason I don't really post/go on xda anymore. It's all a bunch of crying flamers who constantly ask for updates and complain when **** doesn't work.
That and the fact that I have a nexus so i'm not flashing roms every week lol

I'm on here a lot more than usual. I'm between jobs now and at home. Will be changing next week though. One of my biggest pet peeves is those who won't take the time to research stuff before asking/demanding help. Answer is in the OP, but they don't bother to read it. Burns my hide as they say. ?
