Hi,
I am working with my eee pad for the last week and I am very disappointed from the battery results.
I sent to to the importer in my country and he claims that he checked the battery with the asus appropriate device and it is as good as new.
after nearly 5-6 hours it gets to a point that i need to charge it.
youtube and browsing.
this is my config:
Screen brightness is on auto.
WIFI off when screen off
I make sure with advanced task killer to shout other apps down(Hate that).
Screen goes off after 1 minute.
Is that normal? am i doing something wrong?
Thanks

Thanks, what else (-:
I have no taskkiller and see the same. with 3.0 around 6 to 7 hours, now at max 5. And charging the other way, first in max 1.5 hours full, now it takes around 3 hours.
3.1 totally ruined my battery life.

I have found the following to help conserve battery charge :
1. Screen set to auto brightness
2. Sleep mode set to 1 minute
3. Wi-Fi off when in sleep mode
4. GPS set to off
5. Bluetooth set to off
Edit : Forgot to mention...I don't use "live wallpaper" which tends to be a battery power consumer

Just wondering, have you checked your settings after you updated to 3.1 ?
I found some of my settings changed after I did the 3.1 update.
I found GPS turned on and found my browser set to tablet instead of desktop.

Actually I didn't turn off GPS when I was on 3.0. All other setting were turned off just like 3.0. On that first day (leaked verison) I noticed that the battery life got worst. Before I could get an hour per 10% when surfing and listening to music. Now I'm getting using about 17% per hour. Its 3.1, cause xoom owners r also complaining about it after 3.1
strange, i have amazing battery life.... i use a live wallpaper too.... decent amount of use nets me 2 days.... i CAN kill it in a day if i really try.
browsing, twitter, gaming, etc.
I don't know if this helps but not using the dock seems to improve battery life. I have been using the tablet without the dock for the last 3 hours playing Plants vs zombies and Bang bang racing and some flash videos online and battery is still at 82%

Tonight I did a factory reset hoping to see any improvement for the default browser as far as speed goes, but it was the same as before. After installing the 3.1 leaked on the 28th I noticed that the battery life got worst then before. After doing a factory reset tonight, my battery life has improvement! I was streaming a dvd from my server to the TF using Plex and I got 30 mins of playback with only eating up 5% of batter life! I used battery indicator pro to keep track of the usage. This is a big improvement prior to the factory reset. My brightness was set at 50% with auto bright disable.
For the next 30 mins I did my regular routine using playpro and surfing the net my tf only ate up 5% of battery life. This is the same kind battery life i was getting before on 3.0.

Its up to you. I noticed that I was getting better battery life before upgrading to 3.1. I don't regret doing the upgrade cause I will trade getting a working youtube app over better battery life. Like I said after I did a factory reset it looks like my battery life has improve on 3.1.
Picture to my charging progress
This is what happened tonight.
It charges normally from 17 to 39% and then slowed down and stops charging at 81%.
saturdaymorning i had something similar, but only then it stopped at 26%...
I can not charge it right now (or saturday) i have to wait an hour or so.
between saturday and now it charge normally to 100%

Hey guys,
Just created this thread so we could all have our battery life info in once place and keep the dev thread from getting cluttered.
Please post the following info:
1. Standard or Fully Loaded version
2. Total hours unplugged and percentage
3. Details (percentage and time) for each service
4. And any pertinent details such as apps used (juice defender), or extended batterys
Also, please don't forget to calibrate, airplane bug fix, and kill that drm.
Ex. (will edit with final time)
1. Loaded
2. Total - 8h50m @66%
3.
Display - 55m 78%
Cell standby - 8h50m 9%
Wifi - 6h40m 7%
Phone idle - 7h54m 4%
Voice - 1m 3%
4. Juice defender, setcpu @ 100/1000
Ideally we want to wait for a full drain to post stats but this is just an example. Thx guys looking forward to seeing what you all are getting.
Just installed it will get back to you in a couple of days after recalibrating my battery.
Btw, i hear Juice defender does more harm than good...

Interesting. I think you are right, we are essentialy minimizing out idle drain to a certain extent. However, even activily using my phone it drans slower than stock with this rom. My next run ill try and use it all day to see what I get.

Battery drain
Hello everyone, noob here. I can't post in the development forum on this but it pertains to the battery and charge to a degree. Maybe someone here can help me in some sort of way.
I rooted and flashed the SyndicateROM Frozen yesterday, used it all day and never a hiccup. This thing is lightning fast and props to the dev's but here is the only issue I found. This morning after waking up I noticed the phone was stuck on the ACS android startup icon. I plugged in to charge last night and it's like it froze the phone when it reached full charge. Anyone else experience this?
Thanks for any help that I receive.

I think I read in the dev thread that it's a known problem with the kernel? Or maybe it was the rom... or CWM? anyways the dev's know about it. Just don't charge your phone when it's off.
Battery for me seems to be a lot better than stock, but I'm always charging here and there... today I'll let it run without charging for 4-5 hours and I'll report back. Using a lot of setCPU profiles.

Are you charging it with the power OFF? Lots of people were posting issues of freezing when charging with the battery off --- and I think the probs are related to CWM -- not the ROM. Only charge while the phone is on -- and you should not see problems.
I put on to charge with the power on last night because I had set the alarm to wake me up and it never did so that is when I noticed it. I don't think I've ever charged it with the power off, even when it was stock.
Maybe the dev's will come up with a fix sometime in the future. As for now, I'm happy as hell 'cause this ROM is great.

I'm looking at 12 hours on ACS Frozen on average. I haven't even gotten close to the rumored 30 hours with "heavy use" I think my use has been moderate. My battery use log only only lists display 98% and cell standby 2%. This confuses me. I do more than sit there staring at my homescreen.

How you use your phone makes a difference and while 30h is possible, I don't see it happening with heavy use unless that is little display use. Below is my most recent "heavy use" run. Basically tried to use the phone all day, xda app, browsing, mainly wifi, 0% screen brightness.
1. Loaded
2. 8h7m @5%
3.
Display - 5h33m 95% <- serious display use which kills the phone quick
Wifi - 4h56m 2%
Cell standby - 8h7m 2%
Voice - 4m30s 2%
4. Setcpu @100/1000, juicedefender, 0% brightness
Pretty good considering the insane display usage. With normal use I get over 20h so that just shows how fast it kills your battery. Going to do an "extreme" run next to include heavy cpu use (play emulators all day haha).

You did that with a standard battery? I haven't seen anyone post more than 4 hours of display "time on". That's impressive. Maybe I should try 0% brightness. I have mine at 25%. Are you on "Conservative" on SetCPU?

The 98% means that 98% of your battery use is coming from the screen. Click on where is says 98% and look at see what the use details are (the "time on"). Generally, most people are getting less than 4 hours of display time on with a single charge. The explanation is that some people stretch 4 hours of display time over 30 hours of use. In other words, the people who are getting 30 hours of use only have their screen on 10 - 15% of the time (or less).

Yes, using the standard battery. Setcpu is on conservative. I always use 0% as it looks great (kick it up tp 25-50% outside). I think I was able to get that long of display use due to minimizing cpu usage and other services. All I did is browse in dolphin and use xda app. And, that was pretty much all on wifi. Only change was the hour I was at the dog park on 3g and I recorded a 5 min video.
I bet my gaming session tomorrow will kick it down to ~4 hours
With phone calls, texting, and music player, I average between 16-18hrs. If I start to web browse or watch videos then about 8-12hrs. Very impressed with this ROM to say the least.
1. Standard
2. 31 @ 5%
3. don't have that it was yesterday
4. standard battery, auto brightness, overclocked to 1.2, wifi on when I was at home and 3g at work.
I calibrated the day after froyo dropped. I didn't do the airplane thing and I thought drm was not in this rom. So in other words I didn't do any fancy stuff.
I will note today I tried 1ghz (which is undervolted) with 4G on all day (I have a repeter on my roof at work) and after 14.5 hours I am at 30% with about the same concistancy of usage as yesterday.
Edit: I only have 1 gmail syncing right now. We will see if I get these magical numbers when I put my other 2 gmail accounts and my 3 actice sync exchange accounts on Monday.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I'm getting mixed battery life. The first day on the rom/kernel I dropped down to 79% in 9 hours, with medium use (no web browsing). I was getting 1% drop every 1-2hrs, and thought it was amazing. Today I tried to be really conservative and didn't use it at all and it dropped 4-5% every hour WHILE IDLE.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem? It seems to happen after a reboot to be honest.
NOTE: If I disable data network mode, battery life is amazing,
I'm not sure about my battery life. I charge mine differently than the average person though. I charge it at work and leave it in my desk, because I use it a lot during my lunch break or whenever I get any downtime. When I get home it's usually at about 70%, and it remains unplugged until the next day. I used to have to charge it at home and at work.
I am concerned about the battery life of my exchanged tab. The first tab I had has great battery life but had some sound issues that's why I replace it. But now I have this new tab but battery is draing fast even not using heavily. I am charging the tab whole night. I did not even has email account setup so its not retrieving any emails. Any suggestions to improve battery life please?
Is your wifi and GPS running at all times?
If you have rooted the tab try using an overclock tool to reduce the load, this should increase the battery life. Until then we are gonna have to wait for a custom honeycomb ROM that increases battery life. If its as bad as you say it is I would try another tablet and hope you dont get another thats messed up.
GL
No the tablet is not rooted but its factory unlocked. How do I know if the tablet is rooted?
It would only be rooted if you rooted it
Mine barely drains with screen off and Wifi on with everything syncing at the same time.. I can go like 2 days average use on my tab so far.
so it seems like there is an hardware issue. Diversion is your tab unlocked or locked?

I have different battery experience than the OP. I keep my wifi on constantly. On standby with little use (~0.5 hour today), the battery went from 100% to 93% since morning to midnight.
I think it's your unit. I use mine for about a total of 4 to 5 hours a day with wifi and bt at a fixed 75% brightness and when it goes into standby I only lose about 1% every 2 hours. Usually by the end of the day I'm at about 70% battery with a low of 50%.

Have you checked the battery usage to see if any apps are using a lot of battery? (Settings -> About Tablet -> Battery Use)
Mine was at 98% when I went to bed last night and at 94% about 7 hours later this morning. That's with wifi, bluetooth and GPS on, and GMail syncing (but not much else).
all of you guys whose battery has no issue do you guys have tab with locked or unlocked boot-loader. Mine is unlocked and i think because of that battery is discharging fast. Snoopstah i check the settings battery use is screen, browser (which is closed), wifi, android OS thats about it. Please let me know what should i do i have one more day to exchange it.
Thank you all
Exchange it. The battery life in standby mode is stellar. Mine's unlocked too and I lose 2% all night with everything on.
The bootloader on mine is unlocked, and came that way. In either case, that should not affect battery life, though I could imagine how rooting would possibly allow you to install or turn on something that would drain your battery faster (and is left off by default).
Just as an aside, what brightness setting do you guys use on your tabs? Somebody mentioned 75% and that seems super bright to me. I keep my brightness at around 20% or so. Auto brightness is way too dim on this thing. I look forward to some development action on this thing, the ability to customize the auto-brightness levels in CM7 on my Captivate is really awesome.
I have the same battery draining. I can only get 6 hours of straight usage with 20 on brightness. I'll exchange mine today. My zoom can last 8 hours straight of usage

I'm noticing that battery life is worse in 4.2.2 - I was on cm10.1 nightlies w. Cm10.1 kernel and was getting about 10 hours screen-on time before I needed to charge, but I'm getting 7 hours at best on 4.2.2 stock (rooted, bootlader locked).
I have the usual culprits turned off - Google now, location services, currents background updates etc. So I hoped I would at least get the same.

Yes! I just read that. I am just about to do it now.
I can't comment on battery life, but did notice something a little alarming with regard to battery drain. Was on the couch for an hour talking to someone using viber, just plain text. No video or audio. Tablet was plugged into the wall, and after about an hour i noticed that the battery had gone from 100% to 98%. Should not be possible for a simple messaging app to cause the battery to drain faster than it can charge. screen was on auto brightness as well.

Did you look at your battery information to see what was using the most energy? Display is always far and away the highest for me, and if it was on Auto Brightness, depending on the lighting around you, it could have been running at full brightness...which would be a pretty massive drain on battery.

Once the device reaches a full charge it cuts off the power draw to avoid damaging the battery. It's normal for it to hover between 97% and 100% while still plugged in.
I barely get 6 hours of use now.

I did not look at battery usage, but the screen was generally dimmed, where as normally i have it manually set to full brightness, and nothing was running in the background that would not normally be running, that is to say nothing other than android stuff, it's basically a tablet for internet, email and skype/viber while i watch films etc on my computer

Indeed, but this has never happened before and i typically run the device with screen on maximum brightness. on 4.2.1 it would always show 100% when plugged in, i never once saw it drop to 99% or below.
So without further analysis of the issue, it could either be that something is sucking more power, which would seem odd, or that the update has brought about changes to the way the device charges, or changes to the way the device displays the battery level.
Damn guys, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I'm jumping around in happiness when I manage to get over 6 hours of screen time lol.
I've been on battery for the past 12+ hours with about 6 hours 15 minutes screen time and still have 36% battery left. Battery seems at least as good as on 4.2.1.

My battery life has gotten considerably better after updating to 4.2.2. The biggest improvement is how little the battery life drains on standby...it's nearly nonexistent.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
Standby has always been great for me. With stock rooted 4.2.2 I'm getting great battery life. Loses maybe 2% after 8-10 hours idle. In constant use I'm averaging 11 hours on screen. I have everything on and synced but as I'm indoors I stick to 30% brightness. Also, I'm mostly just browsing. With games the life would be less for sure. Totally satisfied with the battery life of this tablet. If yours is getting truly bad battery life I suggest you try searching for rogue apps. After that, try a complete reflash of the stock image which deletes everything. Another thing I've found that helps performance is setting the WiFi band manually. As I have a pretty good router that utilizes both the 5 and 2.4ghz bands I set mine to 5ghz only. I live in a town house and 2.4ghz can be pretty congested even after turning my antenna power up to 150mv or greater. The 5ghz band is pretty open. I'm getting load times on webpages comparable to my i5 2500k sandy at 4.5ghz and ssd with its 5ghz WiFi n wireless card. This is the quickest rendering tablet I've ever used.
As an aside, the complete re image to stock 4.2.2 from Google might fix reboot problems as well. It seems to do wonders for people with battery and other issues on early n4s. My screen on mine is new but the hardware is from launch day.

My battery life is significantly worse after the update. I flashed back to stock 4.2.2. It seems that the problem with mine is my tablet isn't sleeping. Android os is the highest battery user. Maps is taking a lot too. I have Google now and location services turned on so I'll try disabling those again... No rebooting though

do you mean reducing the maximum cpu clock to 1.5 ghz?

wow that's a lot !!! what settings do you use? I get about 5 - 6.5 hours on a full charge with mixed usage: browsing, playing little, streaming videos and IM+ running in the background.
when I have to study and I only use it to read my lectures/books I get about 7-10% per hour drain , brightness very low and IM+ running.
settings: balanced , brightness usually is automatic, but when it gets too bright i lower it down (usually 30-50% brightness) - stock 4.2.1 WW
A happy customer overall

I'm on balance with max 30% brightness but i never off the screen. Maybe it's because i'm a flasher and for stabilieze battety drain i have to stay 1 week with the same rom
Same here, when I said 5-6.5 hours I meant that time with display on

Sounds like you've got a short somewhere inside the casing. Your tablet should not get hot and it should only have a very minimal battery drain when turned off. I mean MINIMAL.
I would definitely send it back to the factory ASAP. There is a very good chance your tablet could start a fire and burn your house down. Get it sent in now. Also, you may not want to put another charge on it. I hate to say it but your tablet is a fire hazard right now. I worked in the electrical field for years so please take my advice to heart.

Why I have this battery drain? lol. Did you have screen filter from asus or any other app to preserve battery or i have to change battery?

I dont use screen filter, default brightness is good enough for my eyes. I just use asus task manager widget and disabled some crappy apps which I find useless
I don't think you have to change battery. maybe some app causes the drain. each tablet is unique - for example after 4.2.1 i had some problems ( screen of death, some random reboots while streaming video/browsing, sometimes clock freezing in status bar :laugh. all bugs suddenly dissapeared after couple of cold boots and some factory reset threatenings )))
try this:
clearing data from media storage
make a 100%-0% (until it shuts down)
recharge with the tablet off ( maybe turn on after about 2 hours to see when it gets 100% ).
shut down after fully charge and make a cold boot.
cycle it back to almost 0% to see the result
worked for me after about 1 month and a half of use of stock 4.2.1
hope it helps
EDIT: the battey should last at least 500 charging cycles before starting loosing its capacity ( my laptop lost about half of its capacity, but after 5 years and still counting and still in love with it - MSI EX300X )
EDIT2: just got a system update, probably minor fixes

I've already done it so my battery is crazy thanks anyway
I figured we could get this started, so we can start to post stats and screenshots once you finish initial setup/installation and get into regular daily use.
went to bed last night with the idol at 75%. woke up and it was still at 75% to my surprise. (and I did the update right out of the box, for anyone wondering.)
Seem to be great, can't wait fort mine
The phone arrived at around 40-45%. Spent around 2 hrs updating/installing/customizing stuff which was enough to drop the battery to 15%. Mind you that almost all factory settings were still there like vibrate on almost everything and sound on almost everything. Battery was fully charged rather quickly. I had around an hour of SoT before going to bed with around 80-75%. I woke up to a 70% battery after 10 hrs ( I slept in).
I think battery on mine could be improved by turning down the Google Now settings. It is the most power hungry in the battery stats at 9%. Oddly, the location icon is almost always on even if I'm not doing any location related tasks. I'm hoping to look into this more and fully test the battery tomorrow when I go to Sta. Cruz.
The Idol 3 just won't die! I'm using it around the house. Haven't actually put a sim card in it yet, so that might explain some of the great battery life that I've been getting. But this is the first full power cycle after getting it on Saturday. Auto brightness, full sync. I had to stop at 11% so I could do a charge test today. But I have no doubt that this 11% could have gotten me another hour of screen on time. Tons of streaming Sirius too over the front facing speakers (like 5 hours). Very impressed so far. The price is justified by the screen and the speakers alone in my opinion. Add great battery life to the mix and it's a pretty special device IMO.
Charging time is done. Used an Anker 2.0 Quick Charge (just to make sure it got the maximum it could handle). Went from 11% to 100% in 2 hours and 28 minutes. Not too shabby considering how long it holds on to the charge.
Bettery drain while on wifi
Hi, I have bad battery drain while on wifi. What I noticed is that cell signal goes from empty to full while unlocking screen. It goes up to 10% per hour. But when I was away from home for few hours on lte, it was very minimal. Any ideas? Software bug or maybe some app is causing that? Thanks!

Did you do the update that appeared as soon as you turned it on out of the box? I had the phone on wifi all weekend (it never left the house) and the battery life was amazing. See my posts above. And I did the update first thing when I got mine.

Yeah, that's the first thing I did. Today I'm on LTE all day long and battery is amazing. But when on Wi-Fi my cell signal goes to emergency back and forth. Maybe my phone is a lemon

I should have checked the battery life before loading all my apps but I forgot. During sleep hours I only have the wifi, auto sync and phone antenna enabled. I also either use the adaptive brighness at 50% or have the brightness set to about 20% with adaptive disabled. The first night I checked the battery overnight usage it was down 16% in 10 hours. That was also runny 3 apps on the notification area. The drain comes to 1.6% per hour. The next night I removed the 3 apps that run in the notification area and the drain was 10% in 8 hours, which comes to 1.25% per hour. That's better than my old phone but I still think it's too high. No apps are open in the recent apps screen.
Is anyone getting better or worse? I would like to compare my battery drain with everyone else.
Edit: I did disable Wifi Network Notification and Scanning Always Available. I'm not sure what kind of effect they have on the battery though.

Did you wipe your cache after the OTA update? I remember my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 had temporary issues with battery life that were cleared up by a wiped cache/factory reset.

It didn't work. That's too serious issue for me. Sending back to amazon. I'll stay with my G3 and 6000mAh battery. Waiting for G4 price drop

I have the HTC m8 and g3, had the m9...
I think you have a problem with Google apps...Because with the m8 I had 7 hours screen on time in 24 hours, 6 hours with the m9, 5 hours with the g3...
And every reviewer criticizes the bad battery life of the g3 vs the very good battery life of the idol[emoji2]

Yesterday was my first battery experience day. I have to say it turned out pretty good. I got roughly 16hrs from 100% charge down to 15% charge. I got a battery warning when i was headed to bed. Throughout the day, here's a list of the things I did in general to give a scope on usage:
* I had all services on, LTE, Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS (High precision)
* i used it to read a kindle book. I had my screen set at about 80% brightness the whole day.
* I have "Automatic" app which uses the phone GPS to track my drives to and From work.
* I ran with Runkeeper GPS
* also streamed music to and from work on my wohle commute (roughly 45 minutes).
* Then throughout the day did normal checking of various apps and websites, and notifications.
* In general during the work day I don't use it much from 9-5, except maybe to check it once an hour , and read a little.
Previously on my Nexus 4, I would have had to have it charging all the way to work. Then charging all the way home, and many times it wouldn't make it to bed time without another charge. With the Idol 3, i didn't put it on a charger once throughout the whole day. Pretty awesome.
This is my second full day. I expect that it will improve after a few cycles but I have absolutely nothing to complain about. WiFi on most of the day. 2 Gmail accounts syncing, Bluetooth on, display only at 50%, (not to save battery, but just because I don't need it any higher)
I have a few small hiccups with the DTTW but it isn't terrible.
P.S. This blows away my Zenfone 2 in battery life.
Battery life is ridiculously good. Charging my phone is no longer a pressing issue for me nowadays. Personally, I am indoors most of the day so I have set my screen brightness to 0% and it is perfectly fine. When I am outdoors, I will pump up the brightness to 100% which increases the battery consumption noticeably.
I've had the phone for a week and a half and still have never gotten down low enough for Battery Saver mode to kick in.
For me battery hold amount of charge EOD.
100% in morning around 10 AM.
1. wifi/4g ON all the time.
2. GPS during commute to work and vice-versa
3. Music app for 1.5-2 hrs.
4. played game for 2 hrs.
5. normal browsing.
Now @ 7 PM : still 45% left.
For those still unhappy with the battery life here are a few free apps that can help:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.gpo.greenpower&hl=en [ Battery saver...does things like only keep wifi on periodically to check for hotspots and only turn on bluetooth when charging etc ]
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vitocassisi.luxlite&hl=en [ Adjust screen brightness based on light levels ]
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keyes.screebl.classic [ Keeps screen on when phone is held in upright position but quickly turns screen off when phone is placed flat ]
I use the pay versions of these and consider them worthwhile.
Does anyone know how the automatic brightness works or if its even useful to have it on
