i seem to recall this bluescreen guy making numerous "predictions" that seem to always fall through and he comes up with some excuse like, "they used a different test device than mine" blah blah blah yet people still buy it and believe him for some unknown reason.
edit" like this BS "insider info" http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/302508-evo-4g-successor-evo-3d-bsod-thread.html what a tool, please if you have a shred of intelligence, you will not believe a word of this unless it comes from a more reliable source

would be great. but im about 99.9% sure this is BS.
why is everyone so negative (or at least people who decide to comment). This post is for people who want the update, not people who want to bash our phones' manufacturer.
You need to realize that we don't have the only phone that hTc makes, and from what I hear about older hTc phones, they are keeping us way more updated than their older phones and just about every other phone on the market (with the exception of the nexus, for obvious reasons).
Just take the news, whether you choose to believe it or not, and enjoy your day. We don't need all of this bashing crap.
I'll step down from my soapbox now...
The update will be awesome. It sounds right on track from an email that I got from hTc that said they should have the update by the end of the second quarter, which is June. So, I hope it is true.
I also hope that they fix the bluetooth stack (Wiimote) so that I can get off of CM and back to Sense

so you're saying that we should never call out what is likely total BS, from a known BS'er? (BSOD, not the OP) that people can just post whatever they want, and as long as it's something you want to hear, if we disagree, we are "negative"?
as far as I know, part of the function of this XDA community is to provide good information, and point out things that are rumor at best, complete horseshite more often than not.
i'd rather not come to June 9th, and have people actually wonder why BSODs "information" didn't happen.
Well, for me is not make sense that they released a new update yesterday and them release another one on june 9.
I don't take anything this dude says serious.

Correct grammar: "HTC, Sprint, and Google; 'Hope you are enjoying the latest update to a device that set the standard for all mobile device industries to follow nearly a year ago(EVO 4G)........ Functionaliity has to be first and foremost'."
That's just a few of the instant 'red flags'.... I would say not legit.
2.3.4 before the 3D seems like an unwise move from a marketing stand point, especially with 3D coming out. Then again, the biggest allure besides GB is 3D, processing power, and Sense 3, so maybe an immidiate update is not as crazy as we think.
Still, I wouldn't bet on it.
XDA App - EVO - 2.3 unrooted. Help!

As previously reported, we all know that the Google Nexus One will be the first to get the Android 2.2 update OTA. Our guess was that Motorola Droid and HTC Incredible would be next but now new information has come to light that shows another contender.Bill from Android Forum has just informed us that his contact at Sprint has revealed that the HTC Evo 4G will be second to receive the Android 2.2 update. So basically Sprint will be rolling out the update in the same month of the Evo 4G's release ( release date rumored to be Labor day or after speculations that the HTC Evo 4G will come with 5GB to 8GB ROM OZCAR will be attending the Google I/O event this year and will report back on Android 2.2's ong list of goodies. At the moment, we know that it includes Flash support and will free up additional RAM. Furthermore there is now news that since Google bought BumpTop, Android 2.2 could even bring your phone a 3D home screen!

Credible source, or random speculation?
What do Nexus owner's have now? Sexiness, developer support? We still get Froyo first - but not as "first" as people thought.
I'm trying to figure out why you're upset? Because EVO is going to get 2.2?
Exactly what OS would you propose the EVO get? Are all devices supposed to sit at 2.1 and the Nexus only get upgrades?
The Nexus gets it first, I'm thrilled, and it's all a Nexus owner can hope for.
I'm glad the EVO will launch with 2.2. I want to see Android do well, HTC too.
Oh, and what do I have now? The best mobile device I've ever owned, that's what.

I'm not upset lol, I included the last part in order to cause frustration among people who thought the Nexus was going to get updated months before the Incredible, Evo, and other Android devices. Google is slowly stopping fragmentation though, and we only know that the Evo is possibly getting it so soon.
In order to start conversation, you must include controversial, irritable, or suspicious questions. People start to talk then..
People were using Froyo coming to us quickly as an excuse to not get the Incredible, or Evo - that can't be used for long.

dont be sad because even though you wont get the actual OTA someone who did might be kind enough to post it. root or not rooted users will both end up with the update. the only difference will be how you get it.
Nah, the stock 2.2 rom may very well be available to flash before the unmodded guys get the ota. You're not going to miss out on anything so no worries.
XDA will see it before EVO
A) No, ozcarguide is NOT a credible source. I have my news Widget set to check for "Android" and ozcarguide often pops up with news posts that are totally garbage.
Basic rule of thumb: don't trust lesser-known websites that post articles and don't have comments. If they don't have comments, that means the site isn't popular enough and may just be filled with BS in order to get page views. Also, don't trust news "articles" that are 2-3 paragraphs long.
B) I too don't understand why you're upset. Android has been absolutely blasted by every news source on the internet for fragmentation issues.
Google's goal is now (or should be to quiet people down) to have every SINGLE device running 2.2 the day it's released.
C) Stock Android devices will get 2.2 working MUCH earlier than Sense UI devices. Even if the article is true (which I'm betting it's not), it only says the Evo 4G will receive 2.2 "second". Nowhere does it give a specific time frame aside from "the same month" it's released.
2.2 could come out June 1st for the N1 and hit the Evo on June 30th. And remember, the June release for the Evo is still rumor at best.
D) Like galaxys posted, the N1 will be running 2.2 within minutes of it being released (or leaked)

You did notice I said I wasn't upset it like the third post?
I know that Stock Google Experience devices (as I have started calling then instead of Vanilla) will get Android first, that is obvious.. it kinda irritates me when people explain things that are already blatantly obvious to me in the first place, I honestly don't know why I posted this myself considering how sad the site looks.
Though, if it was true (which I think was my point), then the Nexus having Froyo quicker than other devices won't matter regardless since they will be getting it hypothetically in the same time frame. Even if we get it a few weeks earlier than everyone else, I wanted to make it known that the Nexus will not be necessarily the only "next gen" Android device that will feature Froyo in a timely manner. Putting statements such as "I will be laughing at you as you're waiting months for the Incredible to be finally updated" to shame. Which I have heard, here as well, trying to make it as if he Nexus is better the other Android devices because it can get updates more quickly. This is all hypothetical of course.

I don't understand why people get upset when more devices come out. my nexus is just as solidly built and beautiful looking no matter what comes out next. incredible? looks worse, same specs. this is Google's phone until Google releases the next "Google phone", and that isn't the evo or incredible or desire. nexus one is the top dog, flagship phone until the nexus 2 is released. so enjoy your phone in the present!
Its an operating system update on a mobile phone. No one is getting laid because they got froyo first. Supermodels will not fall all over themselves when you show them your about screen. If others else gets it soon or at the same time, I say more power to them.

I personally will not use the always update option. Some of my apps work perfect and I've been burned before by updating and it either breaking the app, or it takes a feature I love away. Now I backup using astro and wait to see what the update entails.

They just launched the Fascinate, and now they have their phone on all carriers. Sure, it would have been great to have Froyo by now, or launch the Fascinate with Froyo, but I don't think they'd want to fragment their US Galaxy S so much. I'm sure it will come, especially now that all the phones are out. I have a feeling they are going to develop Froyo for all the Galaxy's at the same time. Whether the carriers decide to push out Froyo as soon as it's ready is another question.

Seriously I can understand peoples frustrations but venting on the forum isn't going to change a thing. The OTA for Froyo is speculated to be released in September and its still September isn't it? On that note it's only speculated not confirmed. People are in fact working on getting 2.2 to our phones not just Samsung, all I can say is be patient. If you don't want to be patient then shut up and get a G2 when its released if we don't have Froyo by then.

Well I kinda understand the frustration in the OP as flash support means a lot more on the web. I miss watching news clips on CNN website and shows on Hulu on the gorgeous Vibrant screen. But I have no doubt about Samsung's commitment to Galaxy S especially after reading the results of leaked firmware. Instead of losing patience and shouting in forum I would wait for Sammy to roll out a stable Froyo update on this fantastic phone and then enjoy all the goodies. I am sure nobody still has question on whether Vibrant will get Froyo or not after seeing all those videos of european version running froyo. It may be September or October, but I can wait.

Not to be an ass but, why don't you use the advanced version so we can see the CPU gain and not just the lagfix gain. The lagfix makes some things faster and other things slower...the original lagfix that is. I haven't used the voodoo one, so I can't comment on it. I know there is a CPU gain on yours as the most I've seen just with lagfix is in the 2200's. So I assume you have a different rom and/or OC'ing.

edit: forgot to add, you can use skyfire, you got a galaxy s, skyfire will not lag at all, its a browser that has full flash capabilities, and actually the video button thing is better than having youtube playing a video straight out, at least you can control it that way, but yea, skyfire, look in tha market

If its not out by end of this month, my epic is going to be sold on craigslist, or ill ***** at sprint until they call the cops or switch the phone out. Samsung is really getting on my last nerve. lol ive been through this before with sprint..took forever to release the 2.1 update for the hero..by the time the epic gets froyo the next version will probably be out..that really sucks to have such a high end device and always be one and two steps behind the lead os version
IN general no matter what OEM, it will take forever to get the update. Kind of the crappy thing about Android phones with so many consecutive releases. Google said they would slow down after this next release....

I just wish Sprint/Verizon/etc all just used a standardized Android, that way Google could roll out updates like any other Linux distribution. But NO, that'd be WAY too easy, it'd put tons of programmers out of a job because of how simple it would be.
Its all google fault for being too fast trying to achieve the best OS in the world.

Reasons:
1. Android Market Applications - As applications begin to adopt 2.2-only features, and Devs don't support 2.1, applications won't show up on Epics anymore. The reason Android fragmentation is dreaded.
2. Apps2SD - The Epic only has 512Mb of app storage. My phone is getting full....
3. ROM ports - Most ROMs are developed on 2.2 in other platforms. With a 2.2-supported kernel, ROM ports from other phones will be easier to create (as well as CM ROM, since CM is 2.2).
4. Adobe Flash support.
5. YouTube HD (2.2 only)
6. Dalvik JIT Compiler (speeds up applications _a lot_... this probably belongs at #1). We had 2.2 on the HTC Touch xv6900 since about June, huge performance boost.
So far this poll has a very small sample return. Nevertheless it is disconcerting to see that, as of this writing, well over 50 percent think Froyo will be deployed on the Epic in November.
This is amazing, since Samsung has only promised that Froyo would come to U.S. Galaxy S variants in general sometime before the end of the year, and Sprint has made no more optimistic a prediction.
If this poll shows anything, it is that many or most readers here are setting themselves up for a bitter disappointment. Expect a lot of rants around Nov. 30, when we probably will still be waiting.
We will get it when other phones start getting 2.3
Froyo's going to slow the browser down, just wait!
On the other hand, I am looking forward to some of the other features it brings... but it's really not going to make that much difference in the performance of the device. It'll get here eventually. Just because it's taking a while is not an excuse to sell your phone.
Meh. I can wait.

Fellas, just read over in Engadget that HTC devices will be getting 2.3 starting in March.
Of course, we've been disappointed before, and there's no mention of which specific devices would be receiving the update, but we can always hope...
This line;
(March if you're with HTC, June if Samsung, 2017 if you're unfortunate enough to own a Sony Ericsson)

Not taking that too seriously
Unless it came from the comment section ... in which case I can't be bothered to look LOL
I smell bull****. March is a long ass way away all HTC needs to do is strip stock Android apps and replace them with their own.

Do you have a clue what's involved re-factoring to a new platform and implementing a new skin (SenseHD)?
We'll be lucky to see it by March. I suspect later.

I'm hoping for sooner. They all surprised us with Froyo pretty darn quick!

Froyo was announced in May, and EVO's got the update in August, I think...only three months. March is not an unrealistic expectation, though I do wish Engadget would have cited their source for that info.
That was just sarcasm. They have no idea when gingerbread will hit any device.

Yes, your Evo will get Gingerbread, I'm sure of it. Regardless of which phone the customers think is Sprint's best Android offering, Sprint has a lot riding on the Evo, even five months after its launch.
To round it all out, there's this crazy rumor -- and feel free to ridicule me for not having the link -- that an HTC employee confirmed that HTC wants Gingerbread on the Evo before Christmas, and Sprint wants to be first to market with the update. Like I said, it's a rumor, but it sounds reasonable.
Hopefully sooner.. the post above would be super awesome if true.

It does make sense for htc to get it early as they manufacture the N1.
MAN OH MAN WE HOPE THIS IS LEGIT
Could very well be 100% false But.....

Remember, they said end of the year for 2.2, but we got it like a month later. I bet by January will have it,official or not.

i would agree that sprint still views the Evo as their flag**** model and not only that but its had commercial success, anyone remember how hard it was to get those things in the first 90 days?? you better believe they were probably working with HTC to make sure its updated in a timely manner. also, it makes sense for it to get the first HTC update since it has the largest install base.
All speculation on my part, but my two cents

Interesting article.
It would make sense that Sprint would make an effort to update EVO's to 2.3 as soon as possible. As someone else already mentioned, this is definitely their flagship device. Though the Samsung Epic is also a 4G phone, it has not been marketed nearly as much as the EVO.
This is pure speculation on my part, but it would seem to be in their best short-term interests to continue to develop for the EVO, as it has hardware that is very capable, and 2.3 would only make the device that much more appealing. It may be cheaper to develop for existing, familiar (and not very old) hardware than to develop for new hardware. I could be wrong.
I can already hear the commercials: "the EVO, now faster than ever..."
Yeah, I hope they push out 2.3, even if it has old sense.

DISCLAIMER: I posted this on Android Central and reposting here with the same title in the hopes that someone from HTC will read it and maybe do something about it (doubtful but worth a shot).
After the updating debacle that has taken place with their previous phones, how in the world is it possible for HTC to take so long to release updates for the HTC One in the USA? It isn't like the update isn't finished yet b/c it's been available in other parts of the world for over a month now! They also can't blame the carriers b/c they haven't released the update for the unlocked 32 GB or the 64GB develop editions either! This can only be attributed to the fact that the people who work in their USA offices are either 1. brain dead or 2. are sitting on their hands and simply willing to let the company go into bankruptcy.
HTC stated when the One was released that it would receive a TIMELY update to 4.2.2 but even I'll admit I was foolish to fall for their nonsense once again. I'm done...I will never purchase another device from HTC again. If they want to know why they're continuing to lose market share even with the best device on the market, it's b/c their company has AWFUL customer support, they don't communicate with their customers at all, and they simply don't stand by their word or their products. They haven't even made a single statement regarding why the US release has been delayed...it's simply a joke.
I'm sorry for posting this simply to vent but at this point it's 100% justified and HTC deserves the backlash they're receiving.

Most phones I've had, with 4.2.2 , has been buggy, had bad battery drain issues, and hasn't added a whole lot more than what we have with 4.1.2.
For me, the best version of android, was gingerbread. I would easily run gingerbread on this phone if I could!!

Totally irrelevant to this conversation. This update has been available in all other regions of the world for a month now. The fact that the US hasn't received it has nothing to do with bugginess or anything else. It's simply HTC being HTC.

The problem is getting any kind of coverage to raise awareness. The publication sites where coverage would lead to going viral also receive large advertising $ from HTC and affiliates. They don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.
Check out, galaxy s3 , Sony Xperia zl , galaxy s2, a lot of people are reverting back to android 4.1.2
You seem like a hard to please guy, if HTC released 4.2.2 and it was buggy, you would be complaining again.
It wasn't totally irrelevant.

They DID release it! Just not in the USA for some reason. That's the problem.
I'd be very happy with an announcement saying hey we found bugs and are fixing them or hey we decided to skip 4.2 and go to 4.3. But the silence is ridiculous.

The reason is HTC 's primary market is China. The rest of europ also runs the same M7 model. The US is always going to be the black sheep of the tech world when it comes to getting timely updates due to how our carriers all have something different. Sprint being the blackest of the sheep with their CDMA crap, etc.
That doesn't explain the silence regarding the unlocked models sold directly by htc.

Once again the unlocked and developer edition models don't need any carrier approval so this is not a legitimate excuse.

What's ridiculous is people complaining about manufacturer updates on xda-developers forums.... If the phone was locked down like the DNA was for a while I'd understand. But it isn't. You can have just about any software on your phone that you wanted. Not that many unlocked were sold in the US and if you bought a dev edition id imagine theyd assume you know what to do to get the latest greatest... Not really something HTC is going to lose sleep over

Unreleased software also means unreleased kernel sources. 4.2.2 based roms like Cyanogenmod 10 would be so much better with released 4.2.2 source dontcha think?

Does your phone work? Can you make and receive calls?? If yes, then what's the issue? What feature/features do you want the most from 4.2.2??
Please buddy, who really cares?? Your ranting about something you can flash right now, go to the development section, plenty of 4.2.2 roms there choose one, flash away, I'm sure the devs here will do a better job than HTC will!!

You are on XDA DEVELOPERS? If you have found the forum find the info you need and put 4.2 onto the phone. I don't care how fast a carrier does or doesn't update a phone because I do not buy phone based on that. I buy them based on developer support and let me tell you this phone has that in plenty. I agree it is BS that HTC Sony and others can not get timely updates but having hardware venders that provide crappy software support is nothing new to me. Been going on for 20 years. You ever own a sound blaster product??? So now that you have yelled and gotten it off your chest go on over to the DEV section and do something about it.
