My source just emailed me with a date of the 24th of July. This is by no means official, yet my source is right everytime. Many of you know this.

Looks like I will wait a week after the evo 3d is released to buy it so I can get the sgs2 within the 30 day window
Not sure if this is the same guy, but another insider says late July so it sounds right. Will they mutilate the front of the phone at all or will it have the same 3 button setup as the international version?

$350 w/contract with a mail in rebate. So Samsung's not only raised the retail prices they've raised the wholesale prices too. The battery should last about an hour and a half with Wi-Max.

Isn't it pretty typical for most carrier's new high end phones to say something around $350 or $300 and have an instant (supposed MIR) rebates bringing them to $200 or $250?
However I would think the AT&T version would show up first, as it went through FCC already. They probably held on to releasing it because of the Infuse, and didn't want the two devices to compete.
I guess it depends on the rebate. The yet-to-be launched EVO 3D on Sprint is $199 without the need for a rebate. So it seems the SGS2 will be Sprint's new flagship.

Is the Photon being delayed? How does that affect the SGS2?
A dev just found all the AT&T LTE settings in KG1. Their LTE network will be up in few weeks and they have no phone for it. I'm guessing because of AT&T's financial value to Samsung (vs. Sprint) no one will launch the SGS2 before AT&T. Sprint's got plenty of 4G phones and AT&T's got none (not counting fake-4G). There's typically a period of exclusivity ranging from 30-90 days which means other carriers would follow in the Fall. But someone else posted Samsung's going for a simultaneous launch on all three carriers (T-Mobile's screwed). Just some stuff to think about...

But does that mean the SGS2 will be out in July or in August for AT&T? I am so sick and tired of this lame iPhone.
AT&T announced they're launching their LTE network in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Atlanta and Chicago, this Summer. The phone's already passed through the FCC and now there's LTE code in the latest firmware. Knowing Samsung wants the phone deployed fast in the U.S. I'd be surprised if it was longer than 60 days from now. I'd bet we'll start hearing rumors and seeing sightings soon as AT&T is already testing their LTE network in Texas. All of this is still just a guess.
WDM I wonder if your source confused the Samsung Conquer 4G, that is being released on 7/24 with the Within. FWIW the Photon 4G isn't being delayed, it just passed through the FCC and will be out in a few weeks.

Here's some more confirmation on the July 24th release date.
http://samsunggalaxys2review.org/samsung-galaxy-s2-sprint-release-as-early-as-july-24
Makes perfect "sense" because it allows Evo 3D owners, like myself to trade in. Although this date is cutting it VERY CLOSE for those who got the Evo 3D on launch.
I'm in the same boat as you. I'm loving my Evo 3D, I got 2.5 days of battery before having to recharge and I'm loving Sense 3.0.
So, my question is, anyone on here tried Sense 3.0 and also the new Touch Wiz and can give us a good comparison?

Has anyone noticed the lack of EVO commercials lately, since the rumor of two more phones started?
The Nexus S is made by samsung, so does that mean updates never come out? Or because it's a Nexus it won't be an issue? The rumored specs don't seem that much better than my EVO, so no rush there. Anyone have the specs for the EVO 3D? I don't care about 3d, but a dual core and higher resolution would be nice.

The Incredible commercials are out there because Verizon is doing something that Sprint doesn't do....put their phones on sale. I think they are selling the Dinc for $49.99. (I think I even saw somewhere you could get them free) Sprint is still selling the EVO for $199.99.

so you can save up front on cost of phone.. or save much more over the 2 yr contract.

Actually, there's no real saving on Sprint when you compare hardware costs. I've looked at it...
I've seen Verizon offer their top tier phones at 1/2 price to free in the last year and Sprint is only $10/month cheaper on their monthly fee. Then when you figure in the coverage Verizon offers, for me, Verizon is the better value. I'm just waiting on an LTE Android phone, from Verizon, to make the switch.
I'm pretty sure you would save more than just 10 a month though.
Perhaps it's just in the South Florida market.
Although, if you watch Fringe, it is a non-stop EVO commercial.

There's really not that much of a difference between the costs of the two carriers now. Which definitely isnt going to play in Sprints favor in the long run.

true the price difference is smaller now.. for a few months.
but once verizon uses LTE to control your data...to charge for more access (that is free now)...
and data tier pricing...
you will see that difference grow...and grow...
I haven't seen as many commercials lately. I did notice today though that the EVO is not available online from Sprint's website. It's still there, but says it's sold out.
My wife is losing her company iPhone and needs a new phone. She wants an iPhone, but the plan difference is sickening. I get a 25% discount on monthly service at Sprint through my employer. We can both get on a plan with Sprint, including the two $10 premium data charges for about the same price as a single comparable iPhone plan on Verizon. 2-for-1 is hardly a contest.
I just saw a couple Evo commercials in the New York City area. One on local TV and one on a national cable network.
I think Sprint is still pushing the phone, but they're offering $125 in credits for new accounts, so that to me says "we're reducing new stock to prep for new products to come."

This assumes you get a new phone every time your contract is up. I realize in a forum such as this, most people probably do upgrade, but many in the "outside" world don't.
Watch Fringe on Friday night (FOX) if you're looking for Evo commercials. One of the main characters, Peter Bishop, is an Evo user and his phone makes regular appearances. Product placement is usually tacky but in this case, I don't mind.
You should be watching Fringe anyway. It's a great show.
In an industry where customer churn can be likened to the fearsome troll under the bridge, Sprint has launched a program designed to keep its favored subscribers around for another two years. While not everyone is eligible -- those who've upgraded less than eight months ago, corporate outfits and those in collections need not inquire -- the program lets customers buy their way out of their current commitment and become eligible for a new, subsidized handset. The promotion begins February 12th and is set to run through the 14th of April, where the amount you pay correlates to the time since your last upgrade. So if you're currently pining for the Epic 4G Touch or the iPhone 4S, just give your local Sprint store a call this Sunday. They just may be able to hook you up.

Probably because people like me, who have a family plan and are getting a discount through work, are able to cancel this month with no ETF fee.
They are probably launching this to lure those people who might leave to stay with Sprint.
I'll soon be saying goodbye to my trusty EVO 4G and picking up a free Galaxy S II on T-Mobile tomorrow.
Unfortunately there isn't really anything worthwhile to chose from. I'd rather wait until after some LTE phones are out.

Too little too late IMO. Sprint is losing tons of money. The only reason I stay with them is unlimited data, and when my contract is up in 2 months they better have the Sprint Nexus out and give it to me for a very good deal.
Verizon has better coverage, fast LTE and the Nexus - Sprint need to compete with that for the tons of people who were original Evo4G customers.
But the Verizon Nexus will not be capable of roms compiled from source due to CDMA support from Google being pulled (same as sprint), as per my understanding.

My kingdom for a Sprint Nexus.
This article seems to have went away..Anyone know where some info is on this? the link in the OP doesnt go anywhere but to the main site page now.
While the Nexus seems great, you have to be anxious for possible lte phones from sprint like the HTC Zeta (drool), HTC Edge, and the Sammy Galaxy SIII.
It is possible that Sprint will pick up at least one of these Q2 in 2012. After MWC we should know more.
I have been with sprint almost 20 years now, and 2 years ago they hooked me good with the Evo. Man I hope they get an equal replacement for everyone who purchased one 2 years ago and is ready for an upgrade.
It would be cool to have a phone as powerful as my Transformer Prime, and with better wifi....lol

Personally I think it has to do with Sprint's network. My tinfoil hat theory is that they don't have the cash to upgrade their network to keep pace with the other carriers so they're trying to lock people into contracts . From my perspective first and foremost is their lack of tower back haul and having the proper bandwidth available in many areas Secondarily, LTE won't be fully rolled out for quite a while.
I live in a small to medium sized city which has Div 1 university. I average 10-75 kbps each night when I get home from work and not much better when I leave in the mornings. Watching the network.spring.com website, there was to be a capacity upgrade to the tower closest to me. Now its not listed on the website anymore. Thanks Sprint.
Well I've looked all over the sprint website and still don't see the promo anywhere.

Besides the current top shelf smartphones, Evo 3d, Nexus, and epic....what does sprint have to offer right now that is truly an upgrade. The Evo has the most development I have ever seen on these forums. With all the current development for our Evo these phones just seem like a lateral movement. Especially with the upcoming line up from Samsung and HTC.
Not trying to argue. Maybe I'm not seeing all that's out there.
Thanks

Also, what do you mean by "purchasing" the early upgrade? There's an official program to buy an early upgrade? Or is it an unofficial thing going on all over?
I did this back in December and upgraded to the 3D. And op is right this is exclusively for the og Evo. Turn on affilated networks/roaming and make a ton of phone calls/stream video like the end of the world has come or stream pandora non stop. Hit about 2k minutes and like 8gigs + of data and you will get flagged for sure. They will give you a warning the first month but keep doing it and your contract will be terminated w/o any termination fee's. You will lose your phone number this way but its the easiest way to get outta contract. If your desperate you could call in and complain like 10 times a day and they might let you out but its never a for sure thing.
Honestly if it were me I would wait until the network vision is complete as Sprint will have 36,000 towers just like Verizon and AT&T does now. But with Sprint all towers will use 3 signals simultaneously so you will see some great results. I hear horror stories everyday about AT&T and Verizon so beware.

What is the easiest way to get out of my contract without having to pay the early termination fees?

Ditto. I'm on the old contract with a $140 fee. I've had below-advertised 3G speeds (as well as a few outages) pretty much everywhere here in NYC, since December 2010. I kept getting the "tower upgrades"/"tower outages" run around. I just wanna leave a switch to a cheap prepaid service because I'm in college and it's frustrating paying for useless data.

I was aware of that method, but I don't want to lose my number. Are there any alternatives?
I know the new EVO LTE starts preorders on the 7th but do you know the actual release date for it yet?
Hey cstargel5487,
I am currently in a sprint contract which does not end till august. I want to keep my current number and possibly port it to verizon wireless. If I do port it from their service, will sprint still charge the termination fee? If not I would like to know another way of getting out of the contract while still keeping the number.
Thank You

If you port now, yes. If you port in August when your contract expires, no.
When will Phoenix AZ get 4G
I live in Phoenix Arizona. I'm sure you know that Phoenix is Huge. In fact, it is the 5th largest city in the US. We apparently are the red headed step child when it comes to 4G service. I just reviewed your newly posted coverage map and compared it to a list of the nation’s largest cities. Here is what I found:
1. New York City – 4G, Nov 2011
2. Los Angeles – 4G, Nov 2011
3. Chicago – 4G, Nov 2009
4. Houston – 4G, March 2010
5. Phoenix – Nope
6. Philadelphia – 4G, Dec 2009
7. San Antonio – 4G, Dec 2009
8. San Diego – Nope
9. Dallas - 4G, Dec 2009
10. San Jose – 4G, Dec 2010
Why do we not have 4G? About 18 months ago I upgraded to the HTC Evo 4G. My thought was that since I lived in a huge city like Phoenix, my chances were pretty good that I would get to use my 4G service. Well, I’m happy to say that last month I finally got to use my 4G service. All I had to do was fly 3000 miles to the island of Maui. With 144,000 people, Maui has only 4% the amount of people compared to 3.25 million people in the metropolitan area of Phoenix. Maui received 4G in December of 2009.
So why not us? How much money is Sprint losing by not getting 4G into Phoenix? How many customers are they losing?

sent from Sprint's Galaxy S 2 powered by Touched by a GS3
I've read this on several sites including HTC's. All that have pre-ordered and planned on having a spanking new EVO on the 18th will be waiting a little longer it looks like.

There is already one shipment on US soil and in sprints warehouses for shipping. That would affect anyone who's order which is backordered due to there not being enough supply. Especially the one x in particular as its already available at at&t and has been for a while now around a month atleast I'm not sure I haven't kept up with it too much, I'm boycotting HTC til they stop forking around with their halfass htcdev unlock crap they have pulled and then blamed on "security" and/or the carriers. so far my only plans for upgrades for 2 of my 3 lines are the LG eclipse 4g LTE and the next nexus that will be announced this fall, line 3 is up in the air between the Evo 4g LTE and SGS3 depending on HTCs exploitability and the real world performance of both devices.

Even though there are handsets here right now the injunction could stop the sale and distribution of these phones including the the pre-orders. It's happened before it can happen again.
Apple is always filing frivolous lawsuits trying to jam android up, the international trade commission has no authority over devices already on US soil so they can only hold up what's still in customs or in transit to the US. Devices that are already paid for and already on sprints warehouses waiting shipping to customers shouldn't be affected since there is no judicial order preventing them from shipping and unless there's an 11th hour order pushed through there's no time to get one in place because preordered devices will be shipping starting Thursday, so basically anything already past customs is clear for now. Apple if you hold your tongue and say their name gives you the real pronunciation

I blame Apple
Steve Jobs owns an Android. But hates us for not having iPhones to =p
and stupid apple.. They CLAIM that they have patent to our stock texting app and stock browser. F**K NO! They don't look even slightly similar! and US Customs decide to hold the shipment??? W T F.

The launch of the phone and preorders have been delayed with no ETA.
