[Q] CM7 to eMMC, but dual-boot stock 1.2 from SD card?

Is it possible to install CM7 to the internal eMMC but allow for the ability to dual-boot a rooted version of the stock 1.2 NC OS from the SD card? What about even triple-boot another OS from the SD card in this scenario, such as the Honeycomb ROM. Thanks!

Racks, I've tried downloading and unzipping that ROM on two different machines (desktop XP box and laptop with Windows 7-64bit using both Winrar and system zip/unzip) and have gotten an error unzipping.
Any ideas? Also, is this ROM rooted 1.2 or does it just copy w/e is on your EMMC? (I thought you couldn't use CWM without rooting on 1.2 but I read a thread recently that said you could..)

Nook Color Overclock 1300mhz Questions

I've got a rooted Nook Color and a 4GB SD Card.
So far I've run CM7.0.3 and also used the 1100mhz overclock without issues. I have had a lot of trouble finding the 1300mhz kernel zip for my SD Card. I tried using Kernel Manager Light but it boot loops "Touch the Future of Reading".
Does anyone have some direct links to the 1300mhz kernel zip?? I'd love to overclock this beast!!
EDIT: I am running CM7 off the eMMC not SD.

What version of Clockwork are you running? It makes a difference, and there's a lot of misinformation on the subject.

I recommend manually replacing all the files on the card though. (insert card into your computer, open one that says "boot" and replace uimage and then do the same with the other libs in the zip. Or just flash it through clockwork if you have a clockwork that writes to sd.

Hahaha, thanks for catching my typo. What's going on right now is that the latest version of CLOCKWORK will not read the kernels from that page. Clockwork 3.0.2.8 requires the extension script of these kernels to be changed to ext. 4. from ext. 3. Attached is the updated ext. 4 SD .zip

Noone uses the Kernel manager?
If downloads and flashes kernels right away through the program, without the need of CWM.

I thought Kernel Manager was the answer but it seemed to give me more problems than solutions.

There are no SD kernels in Kernel Manager Lite, just the eMMC kernels. I made the mistake of trying one of these and it was a pain to restore my nook. Unless the paid version gives access to those, I only have the lite version. If the paid version has this, let me know and I'll definitely pay.

Okay I flashed the kernel with ext 4 and it only shows up to 1100 mhz (not 1300mhz) in the settings.. ??

I reflashed CM7.0.3 and Google Apps.. synced up to my Google account and then rebooted into Clockwork mod.
Once rebooted into Clockwork mod, I installed the zip with the modified ext you listed earlier. I am using the latest clockwork mod (Clockwork 3.0.2.8).
I get into CM7 and go to settings.. Cyanogen Mod Settings, Performance, CPU Settings, MAX CPU Frequency. The highest value listed in this menu after using your modified ext kernel is 925 mhz. I'm looking for that 1300mhz!

Oh I guess I forgot to add I am running this CM7 off eMMC not SD. Does that affect it? I'll edit top post to reflect such.

[Q] SO confused w/ ROMs/images/kernels/uggh. Need help w/ what to do :(

My head is aching with the sheer amount of information it is trying to process. I got a Nook Color about a month ago but have been putting off using it because I am still trying to figure out how to do what I want to do.
I've been going over the threads on the dev forum and after reading a lot of the threads, I still can't find exactly what I need (or maybe I've found it but I just haven't realized it yet).
My Nook Color is running latest official update from B&N (meaning 2.2 and B&N apps).
Anyway here's what I need:
1. I need to be able to dual boot into either HC or a rooted gingerbread-based version of android (is this the clockwork 7 thing?) solely from an SD card
2. Should not do anything to the Nooks internal memory (meaning: won't void warranty)
3. The dual boot manager, HC and and gingerbread-based version of android should all run on sd card. nothing will be placed/done on the nook (is this it? i'm so confused i'm not even sure anymore --- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045018)
4. The dual boot manager will still have the ability to install other custom roms on to the sd card when i put the zip file of the image on to the sd card (something like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957)
5. Should have the overclock thingamajig
Anyway, are there any solutions to this? the "Dualboot Phiremod / Honeycomb Image for SDcard" seems the closest so far but I can't figure out if it installs a rom manager into the SD card with which I can install newer versions of the overclock kernel or newer versions of the custom ROMS based on HC preview or newer version of the CM7 nightly image. gaaaah.
Please help >_<. I promise I'm not stupid. This is just like information overload and I seriously am having a real headache (not just figuratively) right now.

Follow the thread below. From it, you can install plain CM7 (the best known gingerbread rom) strictly onto your SD card. If you have multiple cards, you can try out the different flavors of CM7:
CM7 Stable (latest is 7.0.3); OR
CM7 Nightly (latest is 76); OR
Beta CM7 .32 kernel, though this one is still has some bugs.
Phiremod is a themed CM7 which I haven't tried, while the above are more plain vanilla android. Also use a Sandisk card if you have one as they seem to have better overall speed regardless of Class, at least 2gb size or bigger.

Oh, this process is not for a dual booting SD card. It allows a rom on a SD card, and then take out the SD card and you can boot to stock B&N software, so it is a quasi dual boot so to speak. There are some actual dual boot options out there but I don't have any experience with any of them...
Same thing with Honeycomb roms, never tried any of them since from what I read they are still in early, beta stages meaning they really don't work as well as CM7.

Hehe... yeah I kinda figured that out What I had in mind was something along the lines of dual booting HC/CM7 via SD card and removing the SD card if I wanted to boot to the stock 1.2 (so it's a quasi triple boot) >_<

I think the easiest thing you can do right now is to try the Phiremod/Honeycomb Dual boot sd image which I see you already found out. It wont change or touch your internal system so you are safe. Also its already prepared for you so you just need to burn the img into the sd.
If inserted, the sd image will boot to either Phiremod (which is really a themed version of CM7 7.02 - with the update provided in the same thread or to Honeycomb). I use it and works quite well!!!! It is fast also (provided you use the recommended Sandisk class 4 sd card) as it is overclocked from the sd which you also want.
When I want to use stock BN I just boot without the sd and thats it! I also rooted the internal BN as well to add overclock to the stock BN 2.2 and it is quite snappy when OC to 1.1 mhz.

1. To root the 1.2 version Nook just follow the steps in this thread, it is not as complicated as it sounds:

2. To install the OC Kernel I used this thread. Pretty simple process. After you root , go to the market and install ROM manager, then do flash clockwork and then reboot to recovery, then do update from zip in sd card and flash the OC Kernel. I used the 1,1 mhz as it is stable and really speed things up:

Keep in mind, overclocking definitely technically voids the warranty (as does rooting). Since you mentioned it. Just as bad as installing stuff on the internal EMMC.

I've Got a Few Noob Questions.

Alright, so after doing my research, I bought an SD card today (SanDisk 8GB, not sure of the class but it worked) and I am now running CM7 (the stable version) on my Nook Color. I had a few questions that I was hoping people could help me out on:
1. I noticed that people were commenting on the move of the notification bar to the top of the screen and its convenience. Mine is at the bottom--is there any way to change that?
2. I was watching a video on how to run Netflix on my NC, and I needed to use ES File Explorer. When I attempt to run Root Explorer in settings, it says test failed, and I don't know why.
3. Now that I have CM7 running on my NC without my SD card in, can I wipe all of that info from my SD card and have it work as a normal SD card (kind of how I use my SD card on my stock Droid 2 to save pictures, video, etc.)? If so, how can I do that?
4. The video I used never said anything about overclocking or kernels or any of that stuff, but I understand that it makes my Nook run faster--that would help, seeing as it has been a tiny bit laggy. Is there any way for me to install a kernel without reinstalling CM7, and if so, how?

Go into Settings/Cyanogen Settings, look for tablet tweaks. There should be a check box for bottom status bar.

Do you mean that you flashed the internal memory (eMMC) with CM7 now? Or that you have booted up CM7 off the SD card and want to use it as a normal SD card now? If you have moved to eMMC CM7, then yes you can format it and use as normal. If not on eMMC, then don't take it out, you will still have some space on the SD card to utilize (I believe, I have only run eMMC versions)

Here is the latest OC kernel for 7.0.3 (modified for ext4 so it works)
For SD : http://db.tt/3CnQxjo
For eMMC : http://db.tt/sMdWUs1
If you are still on SD version, goto the Development Section and search for answers on how to install OC kernel there, or maybe someone can help you with answers here, like I said, I haven't run a SD version yet.

Do NOT use the format option inside CM7, it is a known issue that will F up your Nook and make getting things back up and running a huge pain in the a$$. Format it thru a card reader on your PC/laptop. Reboot with SD card installed in Nook, good to go.

Boot into recovery, choose install zip from SD, choose zip from SD, flash OC kernel.

Another option is to explore the zip for CM7, find the build.prop file in the zip, open and edit to whatever you need to. Reflash from CWR (recovery), then flash OC kernel afterwards

Alright, so after screwing up attempting to get the kernel in, I rebooted to stock NC software and then again to CM7. Now I need to know how to get the free version of SetCPU onto my NC, or another free program that works just as well.

CM7 has a built in governor under Cyanogen Settings->Performance->CPU
SetCpu doesnt play well with CM7, it eats battery.

Alright, well I found it and it gives me 300, 600, 800, 1200 or 1300 MHz increments to use, but I thought that the highest that anyone uses was 1100. Does that mean I can't overclock mine?

Nope, the newer OC kernels have different speeds, the older one's limit was 1.1
set it 300 low, 12 or 13 high, and use ondemand as a gov or if it's in the build smartass. Download quadrant standard the market, try running the benchmark with different settings.

Alright, well I got a score of 2293 with max 1200 and 2674 with max 1300, so I guess I'll leave it at 1300.

Lastly, if anyone has a response for the question about Netflix/ES File Explorer, that would be great. It's telling me that the test failed and that my 'phone' can't run it.

Is it possible to run stock nook color Rom off an sdcard while running cm7.2 kang with mirage kernel on emmc?
I know its possible to install and run other Rom off an sdcard, I was just curious. Thanks in advanced if its possible or not.

No. I know dizzyden was working on a way to make that happen, but as far as I know, stock only works on emmc.
But you could put stock back on emmc and your Kang on SD.

No. Apparently there is some code in the ROM that expects it to be on emmc. It fails if on SD.

Well in answer to the original poster in this thread, I now have a way to get Stock on a verygreen SD. Look at my tips thread linked in my signature and look at item B11 in the second post of that thread. You can even have rooted stock with OC and apps2SD support.

I am still working on a method of having stock on SD while still using data on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2... I have not given up... just gotten side tracked a time or two.

Mine does that. Just had to modify the ramdisk.

edit: Its been awhile since i made a sd rom....so far i have made the sdcard from This and i dont exactly understand how to do the rest of it properly, my nook color is on the cm7.2 kang build with mirage kernel and in Leap's instructions it says

If you flash Manual Nooter, it has gapps and Market with it so you must register them with Google. And you need root if you want to the OC and apps2SD support, plus you will need a program like SetCPU to adjust the processor.
You can get the modified 1.4.3 B&N stock ROM zip here, the modified Manual Nooter zip here, the modified OC/apps2SD zip here, and the modified Block Updates zip here (all four modified for verygreen SD installation).

I have done the partitioning on the sdcard so it now has the 4 partitions in it....the nook is running CWM 3.2.0.1 emmc recovery. I've downloaded all 4 zip files, but i only plan on putting the stock nook, and manual nooter (leap says it includes the update blocker) on it

You need to update your emmc recovery to a newer version so that you can flash those zips from internal memory (emmc media). You will run into problems finding the files with 3.2.0.1 since you have to take your normal SD out and put your verygreen SD in.
So flash this zip:

Then copy the downloaded files to emmc media, boot to the new CWM and select the files from internal memory and flash them to your inserted verygreen SD.

Ok, ive put the bandn 1.4.3 rom zip onto the emmc of the nook color and the manuak nooter in the same place. Im running the cwm you linked and i can now select them, my questionnow is: when it says install zip from sdcard i scroll down and select the choose zip from internal and it finds both zips....after i booted to cwm i inserted the verygreen sdcard, how will i know the stock nook will flash to the sdcard and not the internal?

I have built in safeguards to make sure that won't happen. If no SD is in the slot, it won't flash, if the SD in the slot is not formated with 4 partitions, it won't flash. And when it finally does flash, it is hard coded to go to SD. Flash away. First ROM then a little later after you have registered and let it finish loading books, the manual nooter.

cool ....i dont know if its normal or not but it does seem to take forever to download the books, when i wsa using the android app it didnt seem to take as long....maybe they are just have server bugs or something?
i think after the books are done downloading then ill root it.

It took me a very long time to download the books and I have a fast connection. I think B&N just pushes them out slow for stock. Other stuff downloads fast, like once you are rooted and you download apps from play store.

hmm...now im having problems redownloading some books that started to download, but i turned the nook off when i went out to dinner and now i cant tell if the books that were downloading are actually continuing to download or not...would it be possible to download the books on the cm7.2 android app and then copy them over to the nook sd?

Brah....dang it...I messed up by accidently hitting the erase and deregister button.....it didn't seem to erase anything, but it did deregister it...would I have to remake the SD and then reflash the rom again? (Not that it is a big deal or time consuming to do lol)
