So, I've tried a number of major ROMs available for the Epic. ACE ROM, Midnight ROM, and now Bonsai 4.1.1.
I have a very odd issue with particular programs.
The programs are:
Backbreaker Football - gets stuck at loading screen
Chalk Ball - FCs after launching
Plants vs. Zombies - freezes at loading screen (only used this one on bonsai)
Doggcatcher - Works fine, except for when I try to switch between podcasts (listening to one after listening to another) it freezes. I close and re-open and it works fine again until I switch tracks
The first three are Amazon app purchases, so I could see a common issue, but Doggcatcher is a market purchase.
I thought it might be an SD card issue, but I've reformated twice now.
Any ideas?
I should also mention it worked for the first two days I had bonsai installed. Weird.....

Did you have journaling on or off? If you had journaling off and you have a freeze, you have to pull the battery and data corruption starts and usually continues to get worse. Best thing to do until you find out what is causing freezes is to enable journaling for the ROM you are on or going to be on, do all wipes, reflash the ROM, then put these apps on fresh with no data (backup and restore from Titanium the app only if you can't redownload). If you are running a Overclocking or undervolting app, you may want to uninstall it until you resolve these issues.

Kennyglass is right. It could very well be an Overclocking or Undervolting app. I can run at 1400 all day when messing with my phone but if I go to watch a movie or play a game, I have to back off of the overclock or it will freeze after a certain amount of time

Thanks Kenny.
I was running Mighnight and ACE with journaling ON, so I don't think that was it. And I didn't use an UV or OC apps with Bonsai.
It's really puzzling as I now have Frankenstein installed and everything seems to be working fine.
Perhaps I just have a flakey phone?

this is a possibility itself. I've noticed a wide range of 'what these phones can do' that's not the same from one device to the next.. for example, when SRF 1.1.0 came out, lots of people had lots of problems flashing it, and others worked perfectly the first flash.. very strange why some phones like it while others didnt.
For over clocking, some phones will sscream along at 1.4 ghz, and others will puke at even 1.3 ... it's all a matter of what your phone will allow to play nicely with and what it just won't allow.

It is possible. Bonsai OC's to 1120 and maybe even that is too much for your phone and causes a freeze here and there.
ARRRGGG!
Okay, everything was fine and dandy UNTIL I REBOOT. Frankenstein was working gloriously, and now these same apps are acting crazy.
Doesn't seem to matter what kernel or ROM I'm running.
Is this an EXT4 thing? I've had no FCs, so I don't think journaling is doing it either?
I'm running on the clean kernel now.
Ugh....
PS I've been able to run 1400 Mhz stable on Genocide, so it's not that either....

I am running Aloysius v12. I have removed most of the rosie stuff. I am using JIT. Installed ADW but running Launcher Pro.
My phone reboots itself about 4 times a day. It doesnt matter if it is charging, or if I am running an app of some kind, or on the phone. It will just reboot. First it started while running ADW and oc'd to 786. So, I switched to LP and slowed it down to 748. Still reboots.
What can be causing this?
The most likely culprit is overclocking.
Keep moving your maximum down.

slow down oc to 710, but the reboots are going to keep happening until you remove JIT. It is very unstable and WILL cause spontaneous reboots.
OK, thanks,
I read over in another forum another reason for random rebooting.
"Only MOD from there that gave me issues was the battery removal from task bar. It would make the phone random reboot. Others had the same issue."
I am using Droidkevlar's MOD:
v.03 Removed time from task bar (thanks to jschisurf for this)
Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
I wonder if this is why my phone is rebooting? I didnt do the battery removal mod, but the time removal. Battery icon changed to the round battery indicator. Any thoughts on this? Or is it more likely it is due to the JIT? I have removed JIT and slowed down to 710
I have disabled JIT.
Phone just rebooted itself again. Indication LED was flashing green while rebooting. I got a text message right before it rebooted. Didnt start at the green skaters, just went straight to the nexus boot animations.
This is getting really annoying now.
I would suggest a reflash of your rom. Seems like maybe one of your apps or customizations is messing around with the phone.
If you don't get the green skaters boot screen on your crash reboot, it's not totally rebooting. It sounds like your Home may be crashing. Does this happen when running other homes?

It started happening with ADW home. So, I switched to Launcher Pro. It has only done it once with LP.
I havent added any new apps before this all started.
I have added a MOD to my notification bar. That is the only thing different. I have been using Aloysius v12 since it was posted. I do have Rosie deleted tho. I deleted Rosie when I added my JIT. Now that I have disabled JIT, I wonder if reflashing v12 will help out.
Can I reflash v12 without doing a full wipe and retain all my apps and settings?
I have Eris lighting 2.5 and I have the same thing happing with ADW as the home scree. n

Actually, I just posted another thread about my desk clock app posting celsius temp instead of fahrenheit and thought you were responding to that one. I did however do a nand back up and delvick wipe. I will watch to see if I reboot at all tomorrow. Sorry, I got confused on which thread I was reading.

Does your phone run hot? This was happening to my phone constantly (like I couldn't even get past skateboards sometimes) so I did a rollback to stock 1.5 then ota and vzw replaced it in store only to get home and have it happen again. I had them replace the battery after and it hasn't happened since.

My phone never runs hot. I am only clocked to 710. No JIT.
Make sure you are using the Passive SetCPU widget, not the Active.
Try disabling A2SD.
I too had this same problem and after having the battery replaced and flashing a fresh rom all is fine.
Hi.
I just rooted my Aria and everything is going great. I installed an Overclocking widget that has a function to underclock when the screen goes off, but when it comes back on, the phone is so slow that the reset to proper clock speed takes forever - this annoyed me, so I removed the app.
The problem is, it still does it. Is there anywhere I can look to find out where this function resides and remove it so that the phone never changes its clock speed? I know its kind of a weird question. I went into Superuser Permissions and set the Overclock Widget to "DENY" hoping this would stop it, but it keeps it up!
Also, since installing the Liberated_Aria rom, my phone constantly disconnects from Mobile Wireless. If I go into settings and turn MW off and on, it works fine, until the next time the screen shuts off. Any ideas what might cause this? I doubt its related to the ROM, it just started happening around the time I flashed.
Sorry, Im pretty new to this stuff. I will clarify where needed if my explanations sucked.
Your not going to be able to underclock without a kernel that supports it.

ah ok, yeah, sorry, Im pretty new at this stuff and dont know much about it. Either way, it was setting it to 245mhz every time the screen shut off but I fixed it by removing the app, removing the privledges, and installing SetCPU which is maintaining the 600mhz the whole way through.
New question: can the Aria be overclocked? Is there any data available about what the acceptable thresholds are? Id like to get my emulators running a bit better. :O

still need a kernel which supports clocking. doesnt exist yet for the aria/liberty
Doesn't the aria throttle itself anyways? I remember reading that it runs at ~480mhz when idle.

yeah but he was trying to run it lower than 480.... which can still be done. just need a kernel.
sorry if some of these questions have already been asked and answered. unfortunantely, my computer crashed due to a manufacturing flaw so I can only access google and this forum via my epic (which can be a pain sometimes). also, since heros threads are always deleted, I cannot ask these questions there. please, any feedback and help would greatly appreciated.
okay so I reflashed backed snack 1.6 w/ ultimate after testing some of the newest froyo builds. id rather wat until I get the official ota upgrade.
after reflashing 1.6 for some reason, android market doesn't appear to be installed. where can I download the application? I even tried reflashing 1.6 over itself but that didn't work.
also, I'm using the new gingerbread youtube but I signed in and now I get a constant fc when I try to open it. how can I fix this? if I can't, where can I download an earlier version of youtube?
another question. this time about battery. using 1.6 w/ ultimate, I get fairly decent battery. only problem is, my battery stats say that my display and standby are what is killing my battery the most. nothing ever runs in the background, every so often I unlock my phone to either check the time or texts or facebook real quick, brightness is on its lowest setting, silent mode, juicedefender running correctly (battery life: x1.56), no data running in the background, drm killed, battery calibrated and battery stats wiped, and everything else possible to to save battery.
and something I'm noticing now that the phone is charging, the battery is quite hot and I'm not even using the phone. it only overheats when its charging and I've also noticed that its only hot when I use certain roms/kernels. any insight on this issue? any way to monitor and regulate temperature?
once again, any help would be appreciated!

Ill take a stab at these. Reason for you market not showing, can't say? Did you wipe 3 times before flashing bs 1.6?
Also never sign in on gingerbread youtube on 2.1 build. I don't think anyone has got that working yet. Simply clear the cache for youtube and you should be set.
Lastly, I don't know what to say about your bettery.. what do you have setcpu running at? Do you have profiles to lower your phones speed when in standby? Couldn't hurt to give it a shot.
Sorry about your computer, all my info is based on personal experience don't really have a "dev" type answer for ya. But hope some of this helps.

yes I did wipe both data, cache, and davlik 3 times. I guess I will do that now and report back.
how would I go about clearing the cache for one specific app? I know I can do that when I open up my settings and go to app development but youtube doesn't show up in that list.
setpcu is oc at 1300 and uc at 200 conservative. profiles are as follows:
charging/full - 1000 and 200 conservative
battery < 15% - 800 and 400 conservative
screen off - 600 and 400 conservative
yeah, brand new computer too. all of a sudden it couldn't recognize the hard drive. and yes, most of my info is based on personal experience and creeping on forums.
edit: wiped everything 3 times and reflashed. market till not appear.

For youtube I just open it up without a data connection and step through the process of signing out only enabling data when needed.
If you're missing market then you need to flash back stock with odin then start fresh. Baked doesn't remove market at all. If anything it's the fastest responding market I've used.
Heat from the battery is usually caused by programs requesting cycles or data. Just restart the phone before bed after your initial battery calibration.

as I stated, I have no computer at the moment. so using odin to go back to stock is out of the question as of now. hopefully there's got to be another way without using odin. if not then I suppose I'm stuck in this predicament until I get my computer back from geek squad. and yes, I've never had a problem with heroes work before. but for some reason, this is happening.
and as I've stated before, no programs or data run in the background on my phone. after initial calibration I rebooted it. and after every boot, I toggle airplane mode on and then off. ill continue to moniter battery temps and see if the problem persists.

Sorry bout that, I did read over that you hadn't had a computer. I overlooked it though. It just sounds like you might have somehow of gotten a corrupt install somehow.
Maybe you can try reinstalling 1.6 over top of itself. I don't really see anything wrong with that, but as stated before though. Make sure you wipe cache and dalvichk 3 times each before you do so.

I am using CMYLXGO's NAND stock Desire HD build. Its great. However, I am having so many lag issues. I seem to be one of the few that is experiencing this with the build so i turn to some of you to see if you have had similar issues with your phones.
Problems:
1. when auto populating apps (like using installer, uninstaller, managing applications in the system tab) the phone will take forever to pull up all the apps , the screen will cut off (because the screen times out) and when I hit the home button or any button to cut the phone back on it stays black.
2. every action makes the cpu run high. adding a widget to the home screen (apps populating issue again), changing screens really fast and other assorted minor processed.
I have stopped auto sync
I do not use auto rotate any more
I do not have any rogue processes for the most part
I don't understand why I seem to have these lag issues. Everyone else talks about how fast and fluid the build is. I am under the impression that with the build NOT being run from the memory card NAND would add to speed. This is not happening for me. If anyone has any idea why this is happening. I am convinced it is something on my end but I don't know where to start. I am open to suggestions.
I have 2.15 radio, 16 gig class 2 memory card.
Hmmm, not sure but have you tried another ROM similar to see if it does the same? You can also go into MAGLDR and wipe dalvik cache. I used this ROM and all was good for me. I have sense been using this one which is also working very well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976384&page=1
every version of this build has been tried. That is the part that gets me. differnt kernels don't help either. i have even used SetCPU and overcloced to try and get through some of the lag. it works, but it is only when I play games not when I need to perform uninstall or widget selection for the home pages. I use SeePU which is ususally shows my cpu strain in the bright orange (for high use). most of my processes/actions raise the cpu use to high levels. I never really operate in a green (or low) usage level no matter what the action is. I would really like to capitalize on the speed NAND is supposed to offer.
Personally I would try something else (a totally different ROM) and see if you are still getting the same results, maybe even revert back to a windows mobile rom just to see if you are still getting the hang up. Last option would be to restore your phone to stock and start over, reinstall HSPL 2.08 new radio, etc...etc...

yeah. but i did not at first. however, it is needed to stop some of the rogue processes. android.process.acore comes to mind.
I personally think this is one of the most stable builds around. I would rarely experience any lag, and if I did it would only last for seconds.

Believe me, I know. Everything is working in his build. GPS, MMS, easy to install - the works. This is why i really want this to work properly so I can use it, without the hiccups, as my daily build. It has to be something with my phone but I can't figure out what it is yet....
On Cmylxgo's build, the first time I loaded it, I had the laggy and unresponsiveness you described for the same reasons. What I found is that rebooting the system to off/on a couple of times when I first loaded the build, addressed the first initial lag and unresponsiveness. After doing a couple of reboots, I found the build as smooth as everyone says it is. I am now trying the GL Core v11 kernel and it gives an extra 300 pts to the Quadrant Score and seems to be a bit quicker than the Rafpigna 1.8 kernel that comes with the build. Also, standby battery drain seems to be a bit better with the hourly peaks at half what I see with Rafpigna. If rebooting a couple of times doesn't do it for you, I know trying another build which may not have all the bells and whistles as Cmylxgo, but it is worth a try to see if it makes a difference. For me at least Cmylxgo's stock Desire (HD)2 build is much faster and smoother than any of the MDJ SD builds I was using.
I keep getting random lockups, at least more than once a day, and sometimes several reboots in a row.
It appears that i can happen almost any time, whether it be at a lock screen, while titanium is asking for root, or opening twitter or facebook, even the gmail app. It simply freezes, and requires me to long press the off button and reboot.
Unfortunately, i can't get adb via usb to work on the nook, so i can't get a reliable logcat.
Is this common? I have had two nook devices so far, tranferred the rom over through nandroid and have had lock ups on both, I am flashing regular cm7 nightlies now (emmc), but it occured using phiremod too.
Help?
I never had one, maybe I'm lucky
Have you tried fixing permissions in clockwork?
Sent from my LG Optimus V using Tapatalk
I am having the same problem. I loaded CM7 to my emmc yesterday and I have had it freeze on me a couple of times now. All have been random. I do have performance set to 1.1 and on demand gov set.
So I can just go to ROM manager to fix permissions? Hopefully that works.
EDIT**
Did not work. Was fine, then I uninstalled market updates, connected to wifi, opened the old market, searched for flash and it froze up. Any ideas?
EDIT 2**
uninstalled beautiful widgets (read that somewhere), so far no lockups (fingers crossed).
i had mine lock-up twice last night
i was in dolphinHD and i had just installed swype beta
i have only had 1 time that it has locked up before then in the last 1-2 months that i have had it.
im blaming swype, since i havent had the problem in the past
perhaps not your problem, if you dont have it installed.
I get lockups pretty regularly. It's irritating. Not sure what the cause is. I thought overclocking had something to do with it but everyone else is overclocked and this problem doesn't seem to be common.
How low do you have the voltage settings in tweaks? Having a voltage just barely too low for your CPU can cause a lot of weirdness. Also, it could be any one of the stepping voltage settings, not necessarily either the min/max frequency.
Folks, playing with the voltage settings in nook tweeks is not for the average user. These settings can really bork your nook. That's why you get a warning when you open those settings.
That being said, I have been running cm7 on eMMC for months and have never had a lockup. I am overclocked to 1200 mHz but have left the voltages alone.(cm7.1 nightly 160).
If you are running on eMMC,try fix permissions first. If that does not help, start looking at the apps you are running to determine if one of them might be the problem. Several people have reported issues running beautiful widgets. There are other apps that can cause issues. If you have good backups of all your apps, try removing apps one at a time. In the process, you might learn something about your system.
Worst case, reinstall cm7, wipe data, cache, and dalvic cache. Start over with a clean system and add your apps (apps only, not apps+data) one at a time. This will ensure that a possibly currupt data set was not causing the issue.
The key to a fast, well functioning nook is to start slowly and ensure each change works well before moving on to the next step.
While it's true I have more time than most to play (retired), my nook can run circles around most competitors but only because I took the time to set it up right the first time and I am not afraid to wipe everything and start over.

I fixed permissions some time ago, seemed to help a bit, but i still get the odd lock up or two. I am running Swype and Beautiful widgets(anyone know a good alternative?)
I had been getting irritated by these these random locks up for a while. It seems that uninstalling beautiful widgets fixed the problem for me. I thought it might be that BW was trying to access the GPS, but it still locked up after disabling geo location in BW.

In case you're still interested, BeWeather is a great substitute for BW and FlexT9 in place of Swype.
Also, I had issues with lockups no matter my overclocking and formatting the eMMC and possibly reseating the SD card fixed it.
