Linux Installer Kernel Support

Do we have a kernel that supports ext2 and ext3, and LOOP for the Fascinate?
If so.. where?
..and I can do something in the phone... how?

If u want ext 2 or the loopback u speak of use Ryan ZA s OCLF in the market, we also have voodoo which is the real deal, and that's in ROM manager

I had 2.3.3 JVO on my galaxy s and i rooted using cf root. I then flashed GingerReal 5.0 and it also gave me clockworkmod 2.5.1.8 (if i remember correctly) and voodoo lagfix. I now get around 1500 on quadrant. However, i notice no change it the overall performance of my phone. Apps still dont open straight away. How do i know if im using ext4?

Try downloading fuguapp from the market.

If /sdcard/Voodoo/ folder has no "Disable lagfix" file/folder in it, you're on EXT4...

It doesn't but in voodoo control under voodoo lagfix it says Ext4 lagfix active and Ext4 on /system /cache /dbdata /data

Hmmmm, I cant tell any difference in the performance. Say if I'm on the XDA app and go off it by pressing the home button, the next time I go on it it will be like I exited using the back button.

I've now tried darky's 10.1 aswell as GingerReal. On both roms I had the voodoo lagfix enabled and ext4. Darkys is supposedly the fastest and most popular rom and I still can't tell the difference in the performance of my phone even though I am getting around 1400 - 1700 on quadrant.

I'm on jvp.2.3.4 ext4 and have to say jvo 2.3.3 was smoother and felt quicker - despite quadrant saying otherwise. I still haven't seen a 2.3.4 change log so very interested to know what improvements I'm supposed to be getting.
In fairness though jvp is a leaked rom of course and may not yet be ready for production

check read write speeds =)

Give a try to Talon 2.1 for JVH, 2.2 for JVP.
It gave me the best result on both roms as yet.

root problem

Ok so I have been rooted for quite sometime... I'm currently on miui 1.8.26 I've had no problems... well I recently to tried to install busy box and I returned with your device is not rooted... so I tired going into root explorer and now it doesn't run at all.. so I tried es file explorer I goto mount and it say mount failed... so anything that requires root does not work.. I get the permission from super user but I'm guessing it just doesn't mount.. now I'm wondering if I update to a new rom it might not work due to it not mounting... am I wrong? By the way through terminal explore I type in su and it returns a # sign..

Do you have a nandroid? Try using it and see... If it still doesn't work maybe try rolling back to an older busybox? If still no try maybe using the 2.2 RUU... Or even just do a cache/dalvik wipe... Idk, maybe someone else has better ideas

Yep I nand back to miui 1.8.26 and the problem seemed to have gone away... I just updated to 1.9.2 everything is running peachy... the seemed to have started when I was trying to install busy box from the market...

Curiosity. Phone memory?

I'm just curious to know how much of your phone's memory do you use so I can see if I'm good or I can use even less than what I do use lol
I'm using 160mb/ 493mb
It seems good but I wanna know if I can go lower lol
I'm running thunderhawk 3.3. With the minamalistic black theme and I deleted some files out of the system like ringtones and things I never use

Cm7 and all mtd roms give you close to 700mb for storage

Wow I didn't think mtd helped that much with memory
But I've tried cm7 and honestly didn't like it much its the little bugs that bothered me honestly but I deffinately will be going with another mtd rom like thunderhawk when it turns mtd
How come I don't ever see anything about miui like cm7..? Ppl is it really that bad?

Most of the bugs have been worked out since moving to mtd and miui wasn't as big because more people like cyanogenmod as apposed to miui I guess. But there's nothing wrong with my cm7 anyways the new nightly *9* and the samurai kernel bushido8 works seemlessly for me you might want to give it a try there is also cleangb on mtd.

Tried CM7 for the third time and still not a fan. MIUI does not have 4G yet but they are working on it. I prefer converting your favorite ROM to MTD like I did with Legendary 2.1 and gaining 150MB of storage and the added stability.

Ok now I have just onee question
If I switched to cm7 and didn't like it could I normally flash cleangb without having to odin back to stock? Cuz I'm not around a computer much and would hate to be stuck with it until I get to a computer
I've tried cm7 b4 it had 4g and 4g was one of the biggest problems I didn't like it
But I think I will try it now
And u say samurai kernel would b the best to go with it? Not shadow..?

I use thunderhawk so I will probably convert it to mtd and use it
Just one questionn

If I do have to wipe everything then would I at least b able to restore data?
And if I can't restore data then is there at least a way to sync or save my txts lol?? That's like the most important thing lol

You can but there's a process you need to replace the ext4 or rfs in the backup to yaffs2

You can flash anyother MTD ROM from CM7. I switch back and forth to nandroids of CM7 and MTD converted Legendary. So you can flash CleanGB MTD version and I would recommend a factory data reset before the flash since data won't work anyway.

The only thing known to be affected thus far would be an OTA update, as that extra large cache space was needed to download and prep the update.zip file.
ThunderHawk 3.4 will be MTD when I learn a little more about the MTD process and how it works. One issue I've read is that, after converting to MTD and flashing several roms, the MTD will corrupt and you'll have to restart the process from the beginning.

I have been loving my manually converted mtd thunderhawk 3.3 setup with shadow mtd-tw-v02. I gained 191mb of extra storage, and was able to check cm7 for an hour or two and restore my thawk mtd nandroid without issue. Just make sure you know what minor differences you may run across before making the jump. Glad to hear 3.4 will probably be mtd! We have some awesome devs for this device.

Well that would b amazing ill b one of the first to download it and I wouldn't personally worry about that problem cuz I wouldn't flash any other roms unless there your updates but hopefully there will b a solution to stop that corruption but ill be waiting for your 3.4

There's been a solution for this since a long time. Search Google and xda for 'App2sd+'. It's a patch that'll enable you to create a special partition on the SD card to move any app to it (all non-core apps, not just ones which are explicitly enabled). The easiest way to get this feature is to use the latest CyanogenMod 7.2 RC1 ROM. It has it included by default and you can enable it in Settings>CyanogenMod settings.

You can also use a guide from 3xeno, search in development section, thread is called custom mtd partitions. The only thing is that with sense roms you won't manage lot, but its great with customs like cm.

a2sd partition ext3 and fat32 partition on the SD card, can be solved with too little memory, the software will be stored in ext3 and fat32
