New user question - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hey, today I acquired an IDEOS X5.
I have checked out a few things and wondering.
Could anyone make it clear for me within this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13083454&postcount=1
"Ensure that there are no Huawei rom updates on your SD-Card in the dload folder and unplug the phone from your computer"
Where is this dload folder?
Next thing that seems unclear...
"Connect the phone to your computer. In windows it will automatically mount one mass storage device which corresponds to the /cust_backup folder on your phone. If your OS supports EXT3 it will mount multiple devices, look for the one with an images directory and this is the device to use."
Will I get a drive called /cust_backup or something?
Next sup, my phone is using B133, bought it from Teknikmagasinet.se. I noticed the sound isn't the best and camera has strange colors at time by time, plus when I call my voice sound disorted. Recoding sound doesn't sound bad.
So I wanted to try out this rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059753
The thing is how do I install and will it damage anything if done correctly?
By seeing the installation guide I am guessing you would have to take the update option, not the install from zip option. Will it be a conflict with my swedish rom as it uses swedish and such things.
I really hope anyone would kindly help me !
Thanks in advance !

You wont have a "dload" folder on your sd-card unless you actually put one there.
Before flashing anything, visit this page and grab a copy of the correct rom so you have a backup of the original - in your case I believe it to be the sweden expert rom (has the swedish in it). http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/Huawei_Firmware_U8800
Then put that on your SD-card in a folder called "original rom".
If things go pear shaped during flashing an alternate rom, just rename the folder to "dload" and you can then go into bootloader (both volume keys and power) and it will flash back to original, as if you had just taken the phone out of the box.
To get started first download the above rom and put it on your sd card as i stated.
Then download this recovery replacement: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067490
Next, making sure you have no dload folder on the sd card (keep the backup as "original rom", put the phone into bootloader mode (purple screen).
connect it to the computer, and the cust_backup drive will show up. Rename the recovery image in that drive to recovery.bak, and copy the image recovery image downloaded to the drive. Now you have CWM installed.
From here you can try the BM160 rom by copying it and a bootloader to your sd card and using "install zip from sdcard" in clockwork recovery.
To get to clockwork recovery, turn the phone off, and press power + up volume.
hope this helps.

Stuck on vibrant screen due to changing kernel

At a party last night my friend asked me to overclock his phone, being stupid I tried to and now the phone is stuck at the vibrant screen. Since I was first to unroot his phone, he has no other zips on the internal sd except the kernel. I can access recovery and download mode fine but even nandroiding wont help because that doesnt change the kernel. Is there any way to load a zip file for a different kernel or am i stuck using odin? Just didnt want to because it will erase all his stuff. Thanks
First Odin wont delete all of his stuff. Only applications, settings etc...
Second if you are doing ANY kind of modding, it is essential to know how and to actually use Odin. That way in cases like this a restoral will be no big deal. Check out the Vibrant bible in Android Dev. section, i have a Odin video tutorial that will show you how to use it.
Here is a flashable stock ji6 kernal. Just need to get it to internal sd. Hopefully you have clockwork recovery and are able to push it with adb.
If you use odin back to stock. Do you still need to flash the stock kernel when using other kernel?

i do but i have no clue how to use adb, ill see if i can figure it out though
Just use ODIN and flash JI6. His files will still be there and it also includes the JI6 Kernel. I don't know what Kernel you tried to put on but make sure you use the back support version of any of them for a JI6 rom. And finally, make sure you know what you are doing before messing with someone else's phone. Messing up your phone is fine, messing up someone else's is another story.
Moral of the story: Odin to JI6. No pit file needed and all his apps and settings will remain. Done it many times.
Edit: If you still want to overclock it, try Team Whiskey's new Core Kernel. It automatically overclocks to 1.2 without the use of SetCPU. And it already supports JI6 so it will not brick the phone.
URGENT! My phone won´t start!
Hi,
More or less the same thing happend to me. I have flashed my phone with the Core v2 Kernel ([KERNEL]Project Core v2 - Team Whiskey Production - 11/06/10 - xda-developers) and now it won´t start. I reboot it and it just stays stuck with the Vibrant logo on start up. I left it like this for about 40 minutes and nothing happens.
Can someone help???
cheers
Rafa
P.S I´m having trouble with the recovery mode as everytime I start to phone in recovery mode and select "reinstall packages" it tells me "Can't open sd/update.zip (such file doesn't exist)". Here is what I've tried so far:
- Plug the phone on the pc via usb. I then see the phone as a hard drive and when I open it it displays 2 drives, one is the phone and the other is the SD card (called simply SD). I copied the update.zip file and placed it directly into the SD drive.
- With a micro usb to usb adapter card I copied the update.zip file to the sd card.
- I removed the zip extension from the update.zip file (I tried doing this on the pc and directly on the phone via astro file manager).
- I´ve created an SD folder on the SD drive and placed the update.zip file there.
- I´ve created an SDCARD folder on the SD drive and placed the update.zip file there.
- I´ve tried renaming the SD drive to SDcard (the system wouldn't let me).
This issue cannot be this difficult to resolved. I really want to install I new rom on my phone and it's very frustrating not being able to resolve such a silly thing. Can anyone help?
cheers

from my knowledge and experiences you have to put the update.zip file in your internal memory and not the SD card...
from the sounds of it, you guys loaded either a 2.1 kernel to a 2.2 rom, or vice versa. a 2.2 kernel to a 2.1 rom. all this = instand soft brick.
if you can boot to clockwork, then you dont need to ODIN.
adb push location_to_new_Kernel.zip /sdcard/
then flash the new kernel like normal.
Read a lot about Odin and fixed it. Thanks.
Now lets see about installing the rom...

[Q] A500 Boot into Recover will not flash update.zip

I have a new A500 that I purchased yesterday from a large national retailer. The A500 was the last one in the store (i.e. the display model).
I have not been able to flash a new ROM to replace the existing by using a microSD card. I have tried different versions of the update.zip file on different microSD cards to no avail.
The tablet will boot into recovery (PWR and VOL-) and starts the process (I get the "opening package" screen with the green robot) but quickly that turns into the "Triangle-Exclamation" screen, and the existing ROM is unchanged. I can just reboot back into the existing rom.
I have been able to use an executable EUUS file to replace the "DEMO" system using a USB cable from my PC, but the sdcard version of the update will not work.
My suspicion is that the bootloader is somehow different on the Demo models, but I don't know for sure.
Any thoughts or ideas?
i know this happened to me when my sdcard wasnt in the right format i had to use ubuntu and format it top a fat. not fat32 just fat and worked fine afterwords
Thanks for the tip, I'll try that. I think you may be on to something because I get the exact same process if I try to boot into recovery with no sdcard at all, so it's like the tablet isn't seeing the sdcard when it is present.

If formatting the sd card in linux/ or another Android phone does not work. Try a different sd card. This has been a issue from the beginning of the iconia with some sd cards. and its random.
or if you are as daft as I. When you rename the zip file just rename it as update not update.zip. Then right click - properties - details and you will see it named as update.zip.
When I renames it first time as update.zip then under the details it was named as update.zip.zip

HA! That's happened on about every known device thread at one time or another. You can fix this by changing the Explorer folder options to "display known file types".
(been there, did that)

[Q] trying to install gingerbread, but is stuck at pink screen

I try to install the gingerbread on my Ideos x5 pro because I recently received "The blue screen of death" on it. It occured when i installed a 2.5.7 rom ontop of stock 2.2.2 firmware and couldnt boot. I then went into CWM and deleted cache, Dalvik etc and deleted to much obviously...
The problem is that I tried everything but when I hold the volume UP, volume DOWN and power, It will only go to pink screen and not "upgrade" screen ...
I have dload folder on my SDCard but it still does not work, I could install the first update.app but not the others Please help me!
Regards
Did you format your sdcard before putting dload in it?
Sent from my U8800 using Tapatalk 2

Didnt work, still pink screen I pressed volym UP + volym DOWN and while holding it in i connected the USB, still nothing. Those it matter if the USB is connected the PC or the charger?
Tried with the USB connected to both charger and PC, still didnt work
Downloaded 2.2.2 official update but still got the problem that it only shows the pink screen. I cant understand why i could install step1 of the upgrade but not step2 I need to get this phone back to life guys, i only had it for a week
Update: Okay i searched around the internet and found out that if the phone cant find the sdcard it goes into pink screen and the solution is to put "dload" folder inside of the INTERNAL sdcard. Anyone got a way of doing this with my current problem? when i connect the ideos to the PC with the usb it only goes into blue screen and the "image" folder comes up exactly like i boot into pink screen :s
if ur issue is still alive, try 512mb card, instead of 1gb or more.
In my case it works. To upgrade stock from sd.
Update: Okay, i returned the phone to the company i bought it from and it ended with a new phone and 50% cheaper price ;D
They sayed it was a connector to the screen that broke lols xD
Help me please!

I have the same not-upgrade problem
I tried with the Official B512 and the official B521
With B512, I managed to do the first step.
Then, I copied the new UPDATE.APP from step with, (I did not delete the log file).
NOTE: I Just copied that file. Should I rename it to update_g.app?
I went into pink screen, no update.
I formated the card, tried again nothing.
I copied the dload folder in the internal SD, nothing.
Restored defaults (unfortunately).
I tried the B521 update.app nothing.
Generally, I cannot upgrade and I am furious with myself because I lost all my personal data and the customizations because the backup did not stored data (for example, where on earth is the Lama files stored?)

I managed to found the English PDF and thus, to apply the correct procedure, which is to:
Create a dload directory in your SD card (it's not important if it is the internal or the external. If you use the internal card, make sure that NO external card is installed.
Insert the update.app file from Step 1
Rename the update.app from Step 2 to update_g.app and copy it to the dload folder of your SD card
Update the phone.
It cant mount sd card, i cant format sd card and now i have blue screen error. By mistake i deleted everything I made a file image and put amss.mbn
boot.img
EMMCBOOT.MBN
recovery.img
to in it but still cant oopen phone What will i do?

[Q] Phone doesn't mount on pink screen

I have to restore a full flash but my phone doesn't mount in pink screen. I flashed zip what is on "Get back your pink screen" -topic. Now I have access to pink screen but it won't mount internal storage. And also I can't get access to pink screen without SD-card.
PS. I've tried to mount phone with XP, W7 and Ubuntu.
That means there is a dload folder and files in your internal memory. Can you check that?

Yes, there is dload folder with update.app file in it. I can't do anything to internal memory. Example, I delete dload folder succesfully with ES, reboot and dload folder is still there.
Is there any way to delete files from internal storage? I can delete files with ES but after reboot, files always remain in internal storage.

I can't do any changes to internal memory trough phone or ADB.
Is there any kind of flashable zip out what would fix/unlock internal memory? I think it's somehow magically locked.
booting is damaged
after pink screen i connect it on ubuntu 12.04 , but in dmesg the device is not showing as a block device(storage device).
problem: at the time of presssing (power on &vol+&-) button not installing the official firmware 2.3.5 present in the sd card(\dload\update.app).
its goes to the pink screen. normally it should install the official firmware(present in the sdcard) while pressing (power on and vol+&-) button.
present condition:
my ideos x5 u8800 can only enter in:
1. blue screen (default power on)
2. pink screen (power,vol+,vol-)
past condition:
1.i had upgraded it to official 2.3.5 firmware from 2.2 using (copy dload folder to sdcard and powering on with vol+&- button)
2. rooted with superoneclick
3. replaced .cust_backup/image/recovery.img with recovery.img (cwm5.0.2.7), by remount and es file explorer
4.now started with cwm 5.0.2.7 to install custom rom
5. i wiped cache, system, dalvik cache, after that formatted /boot , /system,/cache,/data
6. i think after upgrade to 2.3.5 , the computer not detects as a storage device in pink screen mode
is there any tool(windows or linux) to
1.to flash firmware from computer or
2.to detect internal storage (for replacing /.cust_backup/boot.img and recovery.img)
sorry for bad english
plz help me

So, you uptaded or downgraded your phone with dload in internal sd card right? And now you cant delete that delete folder to access pink screen in order to change recovery.img , is that it? Maybe you can simply root your phone (if it isnt already rooted) and use root explorer to manually change the recovery file. It should work...

You formatted things you shouldn't. Try to upgrade again. Put dload folder to sdacard and power with vol + - and power button. It should work.
HI, I have similar issue and can not see the phones storage at all in pink or blue screen, the computer is asking me install drivers for the 'device' when i connect it via usb, but i could find no drivers and suspect drivers wont help at this stage. I flashed and copied dload (official gingerbread) to the external sd card via another phone, reinserted to my phone and vol -+ the phone and the update started to take effect but stopped halfway through 2/2 install. There must be a way to boot/ bring the phone back to life from the external sd card , currently it seems the external sd card is the only way i can get into the phone, can anyone help me with this?
I got same problem. Phone boots only Huawei logo, but installation is successfull and phone can't be mounted on pink screen because it's not showing up to my computer (using Ubuntu). What they will say in repair service if the phone is in this condition?

I have exactly the same problem with you, but I've managed to solve the problem. things I did the first time that ...
1. I remove my sdcard and reformat to FAT32
2. I make dload folder where there ROM from huaweidevice.com/ru/downloadCenter.do?method=toDownloadFile&flay=software&softid=Mzk2NTY=
3. then I attach my phone back to the sdcard
4. I press the power button and vol (top and bottom) and the results come back as early

[Q] Bluescreen, Windows 8 & no drivers found - Please Help

Ok so I got the bluescreen after doing a moronic thing and formatting the boot.img. I can boot into the pink screen by holding both the volume buttons and turning on, I get the bluescreen with just any other way of turning it on.
I am on Windows 8 and I had a hard time getting the drivers to install for the Huawei 8800-51 for rooting but I managed to root through a method called "poot" and it worked. this was some time ago so forgive me if I don't supply the source of that root method, Google provided it when i searched it.
Now back to the problem, When i plug in my phone I get about a dozen or so usb popups in "my computer". I was just looking to see what files I need to use and where to place them.
I have read all over about "dload" folder and placing the "steps" in it but I cant get access to my formatted sd card when I plug it into the computer.
Is there something I'm not understanding? Can I copy the basis of a rom (system folder, boot.im etc...) into the main 1gb portion of the 12 usb sections that appear and boot?
If I could get into CWM ill be fine its just getting that far. any help would be gladly appreciated.
Again I have tried the previous methods of the Dload folder but I cant get my SD card to be recognized from my phone when plugged int.
cheers, and sorry if this is in the wrong section or if its been posted, I cant find anything relating to windows 8 side of things and cant get the driver installed so I feel a bit lost.

When you place the dload folder onto an sd card and back into your phone, plug it into your computer while holding both volume buttons but NOT the power button.

No. He has -51...
You need to flash 2.3 stock.
Place 2.3 dload in that folder
Or restore the .cust_img

You can boot into the pink screen, right?
Just connect it to your computer in the pink screen mode and replace the boot.img file with a proper boot.img file.
I guess that should work.

Try replacing the boot image.

After install 2.2 you still upgrade right.
Try this if you can access the Bootloader.
Bluescreen usually wipes the Bootloader, but you can fix that if you can still access it...
In case you lost all the data in Bootloader (pink screen), format the partition with FAT32, create a folder called "image" and copy the following files on there.
EMMCBOOT - http://www.mediafire.com/?lb6ifvgk72iru4a
AMSS.MBN - http://www.mediafire.com/?d6r45q6p5gew59v
Recovery.img - http://www.mediafire.com/?57njygc8oianjac
Boot.img - http://www.mediafire.com/?6d5i0714a7o9z97
If you can't access the Bootloader (pink screen), I'm afraid it's going back to warranty.
