The first thing I noticed was the smooth app switching transitions. Then I noticed that deleting large text threads works smoothly for the first time. Then I noticed that the 3g radio wakes up faster. Then I tried 4g where I never ever have gotten a signal before and I get 1 bar. The sense clock has flipping tiles. The update caused me to have to clear the voicemail icon in settings>phone. The browser is snappier and pinch/zoom is smoother. The browser address bar now clears the entire address including the http:// prefix when selected with a single tap.

My first and only impression is a half assed release which is missing quite a few features from the default Google release and white paper.

Music player EQ
Keyboard
Green bits and icons
Camera update
Various effects--App draw for starters
Wider APP2SD use---Motorola \Samsung has it working
These are what I have found so far that is Android standards and are NOT in this update. Plus there is the addition of TeleNav GPS as bloatware that will not get used.
All the above and no Sense update so what was the point in all this and also all the months of waiting for nothing.

The point was to make people feel good about having "gingerbread"
It also breaks the Netflix app.
First impression?
Its missing Sense 2.0... WTF? I might as well had stayed with 2.33 beta, my brightness was usually set that way anyway.
*Sigh* oh well, happy anniversary I guess. 35 days to go of it untill I get 3.0.
horrible. the only thing I wanted fixed (audio quality of the video) didnt get touched. or if they did its way worse than the leaked roms of months ago.

No Netflix works with 2.3 just not this botched release this morning.

I am suprised that they did not add a sence update to this I had expected a sence update and a camera update. I wonder if htc has mad a statment on wht they did not upgrade sence. I really was hoping for the camera update. I have yet to install the update. I am doing it now but once i get installed it sounds like i will be diapointed.

That's the point. N1/NS/NS4G run ASOP 2.3. HTC Sense 2.3 is just AOSP with Sense and HTC's modifications. If Netflix works on AOSP, and all Android ROMs are based on AOSP (which they are), then Netflix isn't at fault. HTC is.

This is my point exactly.
So far I am not impressed with it. It may be smoother and all but it's the same boring sense. No inclusions of all the cool features of GB like the power widgets from pulling down the status bar. No theme chooser. No over scroll effect. No Screen off animations. **** is pretty gay to be honest. They could have at least made it a little more exciting.
let me answer with a question....could it be any gayyyyyer? lol

I hope it doesn't take that long again... but I'm using CyanogenMod 6.1 and just upgraded it last night. Gingerbread would have to have some really new, killer features to get me to move away from CyanogenMod 6.1.

I digging it too. Had to switch the font, but otherwise, TB is hella responsive. We'll see how the battery life is after a full drain and recharge.
IMO Its all about preference. You gotta ask yourself if y like stock android or sense (among other overlays)
Personally. I havent experienced a rom smoother than Ice Glacier yet. I was surprised since CM7 was less than half the size but smoothness was way behind Ice. IMO Sense roms are more optimized for our chipsets since thats what HTC works on most so im Sense all the way
It really is all personal preference. Especially with a phone like this with so many options the differences in performance are going to be nominal. I personally love CM so that's what I am running. There are people that love sense and there are ROMs out there for that. A better thread for you would have been things you are looking for and we could suggest the best ROM suited for your needs.

Well as you know Sense based rom specially IG is not actually full rom as it just modified and comparing to current CM7(AOSP2.3.X:GB) its 1/3rd of the port size. But as IG heavily depends on Sense based framework it will be little smoother but you can make CM7 smooth also IDK what people talking about it lags as if I even run at 368mhz(max)/245(min)/ondemand (gov) I get NO lag.

+1 / with carlos2384 ... Jaywan's Nexus S is hands down my favorite ROM so far on this device. Jaywan - udaman! I'm pumped about v2.2 for Nexus S !!

Go try one of the 3.0 roms in the developers section.
HTC wants a snappy, user friendly interface for the masses. 3.0 on your Evo is too slow to waste your time on.
Your Evo is now too outdated to run everything HTC is gonna be bringing to the table from now on. You either accept you won't be getting every new update, or you buy a new phone.
"3.0 on your Evo is too slow to waste your time on."
Maybe i missundestand what you said, but my EVO runs 3.0 really well.

I tried it once a few weeks ago and was less than impressed.
The 3.0 rooms are steadily becoming more stable. I tried the virus rom two weeks ago and though cool it was not quite ready for primetime. The best seems like rooms that have sense 2.1 with some 3.0 goodies thrown in.
They figured the brightness bug should fix so let's send and update that has a few numbers changed, and a few things here n there, tweak it a bit and bammm GB OTA. Just to get every one to leave the alone. Lol

to bad ... it was not stable enough for me to be a daily driver.
Sense 3.0 is a memory hog... and causes sense to FC a lot!
my guess our evo RAM of 512mb.. is the real issue here. That is why only a portion of sense 3.0 will make it to evo OG.
i cant wait for the devs to make it more stable.... i know they will.

There is a certain standard of performance that HTC wants to uphold and the EVO with sense 3 will simply fall short of that standard. I've used all the 3.0 roms and none if them run as smoothly as sense 1.0. They may be "good enough" for some, but most users expect a higher level of performance and would like more RAM/ROM left on their device to run more than just the UI.
Tapa tapa tapa
i gave ezone's version of the virus kingdom rom a try and it was really laggy but now im on mik g v1.0 and tho its not completely sense 3.0 it has some features like the weather lockscreen with the ring that's really stable and quite fast, it doesn't have the carosel (can't spell lol) but thats not a huge deal at least for me. but yea if ya'll wanted to give a 3.0 version that's fast and stable with alotta memory leftover a run try mik g v1.0/v1.1
I am going to give the 3.0 sense roms a little more time before I try one. I am using deck's gingerbread and it seems to be working fine. I would like to have sense also...especially the screen unlock, I may try to find out if there is a way to make the sense screen lock work on what I am using now.
Sooooooo conference is over... I can just image what can be done through development on phones now. Now that the SDK is available, hopfully we will see some ICS this month? Im excited!

The face unlock seems cool but what is your in a dark place like a bar. I hope they have an alternate way to unlocking it in that situation.
The new camera app looks sweet and I love how fast it can snap pictures on the Galaxy Nexus.
Taking out physical buttons was brilliant. Not only does it make the screen bigger but this way you can have what ever buttons you like (fully customizable). Unlike now as I never use the search button on my Dinc.
i Love the idea of the facial recognition, im sure rooted devices could eventually impliment thaf into unlocking apps too.
and when they had the mess up, it looked like it went to the pattern unlock, so i guess thats a back up.
the buttons was also great, much more room for larger screens, but the lack of physical buttons also worries me a bit.
hopefully some nice development will come out of this, so far i think this is the best android version with the most features and ui changes

it may not seem practical with our phones, but you could always use the other camera, turn your phone facing you, and hope it recognized you.

There currently couple of ICS Roms now in our forum (MIUI, Virtuous, CM9, and CG). But my question is, I am a real beginner when it comes to phone system devs, so, when I tried all the newest version of each ICS Roms, I do not feel any major differences. The camera does not work, same issues with crashing, slowness, and etc. I am not complaining about the issues and bugs, but I am wondering what's the difference between each rom? Are there any major difference? And what are we expecting next for the rom? Camera?

OK first of all MIUI ICS is much different then the other ics roms there is more customization in a much easier way and a whole different experience even thought they come from the same source I believe. Now when is comes down to the difference between virtuous and CM9 is the mods and other stuff that you won't notice I personally like virtuous it looks more professional with the mods such as the setting toggle in the notification bar its just me. CG is more of a stock experience so you won't see any mods just pure stock experience. That's the major changes I see and with the bugs I don't really know but there all being worked on with pretty much Feb so if camera doesn't work with one it won't work with the other just give him time I'm sure its coming very soon

This is where I get partially confused, i was running MIUIce Cream Sandwich (ICS v4.0.1) and have had NO issues whatsoever, the camera works, video recording works, and it is fast as all get out (3200-3300 quad consistent o/c to 1.5GHz). I was trying (and failing thus far) to find the camera framework, and hardware ID information from this ROM and inject it into one of the new ICS ROMs we have available.
what all would i need to pull from MIUIce cream sandwich in order to get a working camera in any of the other ICS roms? i know at least i would need to pull the camera .so files from system/lib, but is there any other completely necessary files that should be pulled to get this to work?
im really hoping that a dev stumbles across this and could point me in the right direction, because the camera CAN work, and i have a feeling i am really close to getting it to work, but i don't have the know how (quite yet) of the more experienced devs here.
i really wish it was as easy as my GS4G was when GB ROM leaks started surfacing, that was a 5 minute fix once the right tools came along lol

I believe that you are running a hybrid version that isn't really ics if your camera is working. This would explain why you aren't having the same problems as others running ics roms.

All you have to change is the build.prop to say a different version.

Good to know! Thanks for the info!
foxxx50h, were you running the now discontinued Galnet Miui release? If so, I know what you mean. Since I was using that and it was great. The only serious glitch was that the market place crashed whenever you tried to preview the pics.
If you want something like that, Dark_Sys released a newer version, but it reads a GB code and not ICS. And it's quite good and stable. Everything works too. Super great on battery.

Thanks for the info guys, and I really want to try out the ICS (or hybrid) where the cam works. Other than that, I think all current ROMs have their own forte.

Then you can buy a Gnex or wait I know I'm starting to envy the Gnex. I'm just waiting for the HTC Ville which (Should) be unveiled at MWC towards the end of this month..It should be an absolute BEAST
i've been using creamed glacier since december as a daily. two main issues on it are the camera and low mic volume - though that comes and goes.
quattro was a mess for me. once booted the setup routine would crash out and widgets would constantly crash the launcher no matter what i tried.
testing out cm9 right now. big problem is that launcher (NOVA even) crashes a lot. otherwise call volume is great. runs decent. one great thing there is that it actually contacts google and restores apps. plus i received an email from google congratulating me on my purchase of a galaxy nexus

Isn't Ville got revealed? I think it's pretty much the same as Amaze!? And Google Nexus is expensive still, so I'm thinking about Amaze.

LOL @google, that's pretty legit heih! Yeah, I really want the cam feature, and doesn't Amaze has pretty much the same spec (1.5 dual, and stuff?), so that's my next target, when I collected enough money after I paid my tuition
