FFC mod on Vibrant - Vibrant General

I installed ffc in my vibrant. Right now I can only use the back camera. What kind of app do I need to run to be able to use the ffc? My OS is official froyo 2.2 rooted.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

You need another ROM which supports FFC.
I am using CM7 and it does support. I recommend it if you don't mind having some problems (no GPS for example).

Yes you need a ROM that supports FFC. If you want to stay on Froyo then search.
If Gingerbread is an option, keep in mind that CM7 does not let you use your FFC with Google Talk. MIUI, by default, does. I prefer the looks of MIUI. None of the GB ROMS have a real GPS, only an assisted one, and there is no an app drawer in MIUI. Battery lives are comparable.

I thought I'd need new ROM, just wasn't sure. Thanks guys.

I am on latest Simply Galaxy 2.2.1 and it supports FFC in all apps as well as camera app. And it has no known bugs and very good battery life. Still waiting for complete GB build with GPS and all.

What cyanogen based rom is most suited to everyday use?

Title says it all. I currently use xtr rom because I wanted a pretty vanilla experience and speed without breaking things. I now want to move to a totally nonsense based rom. Preferably a Cyanogen based one, but I'm not sure which one is most worry free, like everything works, mms, gps, rotation and accelorometer. etc. Thanks, and sorry that I can't really figure this out my self, i just thought it would be better to hear from those who have acctually tried the roms.
The best way to figure out which one is best for you is to use them. Try it for a few days and then try another. No one can tell you what you will prefer.
erislightingbolt ....by conap if im not mistaken. Its definitely perfected enough for daily use.
I use CM6 every day without any problems, texting works, wifi works, gps works, calls work lol I haven't come accross anything that would stop me from using it every day.
Thanks everyone, I'm giving CyanogenELB a shot right now.
Please report back with a "review".
Some of how we like/dislike a ROM is subjective, but your experience can be helpful to others.

I'm using Tazzpatriot's cm6 and it is perfectly fine for everyday. I pull 5.1 on linpack with no setcpu even installed. The stock camera doesn't have preview but it shoots perfectly fine pics. Gps has been a bit sketchy as of latest build but I think tazz may have a fix for that on the way. I love the speed and battery life of it. I am running launcher pro and I popped for the newly offered plus version to help with development and for the widgets he is including. I never have lag and mms works great.
This thread belongs in general. Mods, please move it.

Well I think its a great rom, highest LINPACK score I have seen on my eris yet, but I get this strange lag while scrolling and for some reason it actually feels slower than xtr. I think I'm going to give CM6 a shot.
So, I restored my NANDroid backup of xtr and it strangely feels faster. I hate the HTC dialer, People, and messaging app tho. I think I'm just going to wait until the Froyo Cyanogen roms get more refined and move to one of those. Thanks Everyone.
Tazz's CM6
I've been using Tazz's CM6 with Froyo. Definitely very solid. I use set CPU to 768, JIT, and 24 Heap. With that I get up to 5.2 MFlops. With Skyfire browser I get flash videos too. No more slow phone problems and no more Sense. I love ADW, the dialer, automatic application upgrades, etc, etc.
Most of the Froyo/CM6 roms run well, but are missing basic things like camera, tethering, etc. For a great, fully working rom I would suggest ErisLightningBolt. It is a port of Cyanogen 5 (2.1) and runs great. I get great batttery life and the camera, usb tethering, and Wifi tethering all work great.
Im on CM6 and loving it. It's very smooth and snappy, battery life is good, and it looks nice as well coming from my stock 2.1 setup. My only complaint is the issue with the led light staying on after charging or USB hook up, but I'm using noti led as a fix for that and im using magic cam for a camera fix until those issues are resolved, but overall CM6 has treated me very well!
Ok, well now you all got me really craving to try a froyo rom. CM6 or kaosFroyo? Mostly concerned with stability.
I'm talking only by my own experience, CM6. I tried both (last version I used of K.F. was 21) and I've had such great results with CM6 and very mixed results with K.F. but that's just me.
I run kaos Frayo V24 and its amazingly fast and no force closes only thing not in this for us the camera do t have a preview( use camera magic from market) and flash isn't there yet, other than that kaos V24 is fastest smoothest Frayo Tom out there that I've tried and slot of people.check the kaos Frayo thread out it's awesome.

I forget what exactly, but something about it works that DOESN'T work in KaosFroyo that is necessary for me for a daily ROM. I'll edit this post if I remember it.
All of the devs do a spectacular job on their ROMs though. I would venture a bet that KaosFroyo is a much cleaner, better put together ROM as a result of Kaos's fantastic understanding of Android and how general computer stuff works.
Droid Does V1.1 FTW!!
The default launcher on elb is out dated. What i did was download launcherpro then go in and delete adwlauncher from system/app and just use launcherpro. It is alot faster after doing that.

O that would explain a lot. Did the default launcher make your phone lag even in other apps? Like I noticed scrolling in the market was very slow...

2.2 Roms, which one? Should I even bother?

So my question is which 2.2 ROM should I choose to update my Epic4g
I already running a 2.1 based rom from ACS (Syndicate ROM).
Flash is the only upside I'm am seeing atm. For some reason Im doubting ill see any day by day performance increases. or am I wrong?
Tried stock 2.2 but ended up going back to stock 2.1. Flash support in browser, bluetooth voice dialing, etc. are useful but don't make up for losing MobileAP support which currently works only in 2.1. Some of the other enhancements in 2.2 don't really add to the experience or workflow such as preview windows in browser. I prefer the simplicity and workflow of 2.1. Also, after a few days of using 2.2 GPS stopped locking on no matter what I tried including toggling airplane mode and the only way to restore GPS was to power cycle. GPS on 2.1, on the other hand, has been stable so far.
If your looking for stability and battery life stay away from the un-official 2.2 for now..
These are based on a slightly flaky release.
Don't get me wrong I have loaded most all of them out of curiosity BUT...
Froyo is still sadly not ready for prime time.

I would have to disagree here. When the first froyo leaks came out I would areee that it was not ready. Now there are some good ones that are stable and have good battery life. I like nebula and bonsai the best. I would say give it a shot and if you don't like it go abck to 2.1. Flash runs choppy for me though.

what is sense?
thanks for your reply, but what is sense? is it significant enough not to be without or what?
Sense is the user interface that came with the phone. It is made by HTC and is found on most HTC phones (EVO 4G, EVO Shift 4G, HTC Incredible, etc). It's an Android skin/theme and more. The notification bar theme, Sense widgets (weather, flip clock, etc), dialer application, messaging app, etc are all unique to Sense only. I say it's more than a skin/theme because there are differences in functionality in addition to looks.
Motorola makes MotoBlur, but no one likes it. Samsung makes TouchWiz. They all offer a different Android experience.
AOSP (Android Open Source Project), aka "Vanilla Android" is Android in its purest form, the OS that the above build over.
It's hard to describe, you have to see the difference for yourself. This thread isn't comprehensive at all but shows the general sense of the differences.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7227980
sense is the HTC home integration. there are other AOSP options available, AND, firerat's allows users to modify the internal storage space, in most cases making app2sd null. there are also lots of themes for AOSP gingerbread flavors like CM7. those AOSP options won't have sense.
ok, so is there a general preference from users? do more tend to prefer the sense roms or aosp roms? I want her to be able to download apps with ease, not have to flash them, want her camera to work and all major functions. i read one thread on sense 2.2 rom but it appeared that the camera still does not work. I am trying to obtain a rom that has all functions working, and the ability to move apps from phone to sd card much like i can with froyo 2.2.1. does this help narrow down what i am looking for?
As far as I know, there isn't a fully functional Sense rom past Eclair (2.1). A lot of users prefer AOSP roms, as Sense is a resource hog and it's heavy. CM7 and asopMod are both excellext roms, though cm runs better on my device for whatever reason. If you get an AOSP rom, you'll need to flash it and the gapps.zip to get the market and such because Android is open source, Googles apps are not.

Sir, I would recommend CM7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984702
Everything works on that, gps, camera, wifi, bluetooth etc etc. Plus it has
ability to move apps to SD. Very stable, fast and actively being developed.
Or
aospCMod which is a mixture of asop and CM7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864403
It has everything working as well so You can't go wrong with this one
either. (This is my current rom)
You would only have to Flash the google apps once and after that She
will be able to to download apps from market like she normally does
right now with her sense rom. I believe I have answered all your questions.
Please free to ask if you have any more questions. Both of these roms
are so fast that she will never miss sense again!!!
Download adw launcher from the market. After its installed press the home key and choose adw. Don't check the box. Click ok. This is what is used in most aosp roms. If you go the aosp way you'll have to find alternatives to the sense widgets that look similiar if that's what she likes. There are plenty out there. CM7 and anything built off of 2.2 or 2.3 has native apps to SD, meaning you won't need to partition the sdcard. There are a couple.of sense roms still being updated, but the majority have moved on to aosp or CM7. These also seem to feel smother than a Sense based ROM. I would still prefer a sense based ROM, though.

Best custom rom w/o the crapware

which rom is the best without all the crap ware? Is there a rom out that just works? Flashing the rom without ever have to go into titianium to remove the unwanted appz...some of them you can't even remove from the rom. what ever app i want, I can just install it. CM and miui doesn't have crapware but not everything works. I don't want to have to install 3rd party software just to have certain feature works. All the other roms have crapware like facebook, peep, weather and news, desk clock, and etc... It beats the purpose of rooting your phone and at the same time custom roms may also have a lot of crapware.
well sometimes u cant always have what you want, you gotta compromise, or just learn to be a rom dev, and make your own?

Once rooted, there is nothing you can't uninstall/delete with Root Explorer. Pick your fav ROM, buy Root Explorer and delete away. That said, you will have sense running in the background on anything that is not AOSP (unless you run a sense remover of some sort. I think Calkulin has one.)

Miui with Savaged zen SBC(latest) Vipermod (flash Insanemode) Ram script Mod.Overclocked to 1.13ghz. my phone really feels better acts better games better Battery LASTS WAY LONGER...only problem no app drawer but you can always use zeam launcher that makes it even faster i think
Go with MikG man, it comes with some of the "crapware" but you can easily remove everything you don't want and the rom is phenomenal
EVO Deck is about one of the cleanest ROMs you can get; he strips CM7 clean of a lot of the stuff they add (language packs and stuff) so his zip file is pretty small.
I highly recommend his ROM if you want a good all-around AOSP experience; combined with Tiamat 3.3.7 it also gave me the best battery life of any ROM I've used.
Deck and SalvageMod are extremely lightweight

In fairness, I don't think there's any custom ROM not based on stock that works perfectly. There are always nagging little issues like auto brightness not working or having to run a driver fix for GPS with every CM nightly. You have to take the good with the bad.

Titanium Backup is good for uninstalling apps too.
flashing rom with all the crapware and uninstalling crapware through titianium backup, doesn't that slow down your phone? look at windows mobile and windows os. Hello there. if you have a vibrant it is a t959. I dont use froyo anymore since we have very good choices on gingerbread ann ICS. Iam on Skankwich CM9 Kang...very nice. You can find good choices if you search. Im my opinion a custom rom is better. You need to find out by yourself wich one you like and works better according to your needs. How? ...flashing!!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
I wouldn't run ICS if you don't feel like tinkering with your ROM. The GPS is inconsistent, and there will be little bugs every now and again as the developers continue to refine the base builds that will require you to keep an eye on the ROM you flashed for updates.
None of the bugs I found in ICS are real show stoppers depending on what you expect out of your phone (besides that encryption unsuccessful problem which is a big issue), but there were enough that I only flash ICS every month or so just to see how things are. I always come back to Froyo just for the sake of everything working.
Moped Ryder's EZ_Ryder/Slim_Ryder are good Froyo builds, but I, personally, always fall back to either Bionix-V 1.3.1 or Fishman's Bionix-V Mod with the DragonModz or Overstock kernel. That combo with the Holo launcher fits my needs just right.
Hey, if you're going for stability, battery life, speed, and performance...then a custom rom from the development is certainly better than stock froyo in my opinion. And..luckily enough, we have some great developers in the froyo department at the moment. I've tried a lot of Fish's builds and they are all awesome...but I had some of the best battery life and such on his updated Deranged rom
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1565768
I was getting like 2 days worth of life while I was on that, and it was buttery smooth lol
But really, anything by Fish or Moped is definitely worth looking into my friend.

Froyo / GB is all I use for now. Dont forget the issues that come along with ICS and CM7 / 9.
1. A lot don't have working 911 (e911?) or inconsistant 911 with each build.
2. ICS from my knowledge still has the Encryption Unsuccessful bug.
3. For me at least gps works best on Froyo.
4. Possible mute/unmute bug (rare)
Those two are the deal breakers for me. Im a father of 3 so I have to have a working phone with 911 at all times.
btw - thanks for good word guys
If you find any old Froyo / GB rom and would like me (or Fishman) to update it to current status just ask.
If you want to try out Stock Froyo Id suggest the KB5 stock ROM I posted:
