OK so we all have heard about the 30 FPS issue that the Evo has...... now lets do something about it since HTC says it was "designed" like that.
Are any of the devs working on this and if your are please share your findings with the rest of the community so we can all chip in and try helping.
Not really a dev, but if you flash the Froyo-Dev ROM, you'll see that the boot animation speeds along at 30+FPS for a while then drops down to 30 after something gets loaded. I don't know if this is unrelated or not, but if it is related, it seems that the cap is software-enforced by a kernel driver or something.

not a dev (but would like to learn).. but i am REALLY glad someone brought this up cause 30fps is NOT GONNA CUT IT.
I Really hope one of these amazing devs can make this happen cause i would hate to have a crippled phone!! lol
I second this motion, this should be high priority. I can't believe the EVO with the hardware that it has "was designed" to under perform. Don't get me wrong the phone is amazing but the future of Android gaming is on the rise. I just purchased NOVA from gameloft. That game is like the mobile version of Halo but it is alittle laggy which makes me sad :'( please help.....

Its a good thing have alot of great devs such as toast have the evo.... I believe that the problem is either associated with OpenGL or a kernal driver but im going to let someone with more knowledge answer that.
Alright correct me if I'm wrong but if a game is running at 30fps then thats pretty smooth, right? I'm not saying this is isn't a bad thing, but you guys need to point your blame elsewhere. The EVO is great but it doesn't have an even halfway decent GPU AFAIK, so that might be too blame if you are having big 3d graphics problems.
What I'm trying to say here is if you were ACTUALLY getting 30fps constantly (because its locked, as in it would normally be higher) then would you notice this?
Didn't think so.

Dude... the phone is choppy.
30fps is really laggy! Think about the emulators, those rely solely on cpu speed.

YUP... and doesnt the Incredible and Nexus have the same GPU??
30fps is laggy... you can even notice this in swiping screens and menus.. its just a little choppy... dont get me wrong.. i wouldnt trade this phone for anything.. but the hardware is definitely not seeing its potential here.
Yes let's all correct this guy, there is a huge difference from 30fps to 60fps when running 3d graphic intensive media like some of the other phones out there.

just a thought here and this is way out there.. BUT...
What if we could gather "pledges" or donations as a community and the first dev to get rid of this limitation wins?? Like a dev contest of sorts...
Could be a dumb idea i dunno.

Once again I'm not trying to argue here, I haven't really gamed on my EVO so I will defer to you, if this is causing problems, then it should be addressed. But I have to note one thing: 30 fps is not laggy. Have you ever gone to a movie theater? Those are 24. Traditional camcorders are like 30, but sometimes 60. Yes the human eye can discern more (there is no definite limit... just like there is no single limit to the ppi the eye can see, so shut up SJ, its different for everyone) but at a certain point its like megapixels, you get more garbage than real information.
A real EVO example I can call forth is the Quadrant 3D graphics demos. The first two run like crap... maxing about at probably 20fps, but the planetoid one runs at 30 (capped there, obviously) and is as smooth as butter.
So I think if you had a framerate counter on those games you would be way under 30 when you notice the lag. I think there must be something else at work here.
Edit for webnetics:

I don't really mind if you try to incite mob rule on my posts, but please at least have the courtesy to refer to me as something other than "this guy." Preferably phinnaeus...
ok so we know it makes a differnce... now lets start finding away to fix the problem at hand.... has anyone looked into OpenGL... i remember it has problems in the hero and it messed up the FPS but it was addressed by developers... maybe the problem lays in there.
A pledge for donations sounds good too.... im putting in 5 bucks.. lets keep this going
I can tell you this, when a buddy of mine with a Nexus one and I both loaded up the same games to see the difference next to one another it made me wanna throw my EVO at the ground as hard as I could.
It's choppy, its laggy, its all around BAD. The nexus one has the same processor and gpu and its smooth as a baby's ass. If you can't see it you are in denial.
I think there was a similar issue with the Droid when it got the 2.1 update... maybe we would be looking at a similar fix for the evo??
Why dont you repost this with a bounty to get this fixed?

funny on my phone i notice no "choppyness" or lag could be there but im to busy to notice
For starters, i'm not convinced that the evo runs the froyo/nexus1 boot animation at more than 30fps. it just looks to me like it "runs faster" after the GPU driver loads.
I haven't seen any indication that it's running at 60fps. Just faster than the 10fps it runs before the drivers lod
Second, the gaming lag issues have already been fixed in the froyo build. Asphalt is playable on v6+ of froyo.

Silent Hill? Of all games you want to replay Silent Hill? That game was too damn scary for me back than and I was maybe 16 or 17.
A friend of mine recently gave me his busted xbox 360 and it came with a few games as well as Silent Hill: Homecoming. I thought I could handle it now. Nope, I was wrong. I turned out all the lights and played on my 56in with 5.1 sound system in the living room. It was too damn scary for me again. I heard every little noise in front and behind me. 10 minutes into it I took it out and was done with that evil ass game.

well, now that i tried it again.. the game isn't too unplayable.. I'll try finding a ripped rom.. maybe that works better.

ugh guys i ran into an issue i forgot about. if youre using the on screen keyboard, the nexus one multitouch screen is the issue. i was playing RE1 and i forgot that i had to hold the R+L button to use the weapon n sadly, we cant do that on our devices
**EDIT: FF7 seems to work fine. FF8 works fine except for the video at the very beginning of the game. i will test out MG Solid later on in the day**

Hahaha, that's the point. The sound of static was never the same afterward. I love love love this series (at least, up to SH3). It's probably going to be a lot less scary on a 3.7 in screen anyway.

Yea.
Also, that game isn't running full speed and the video shows it pretty clearly. It really stood out when you were jabbing with Ryu, but then the jumps and the like were slow-mo compared to what they should be. Also, you were throwing out medium fireballs, and
I don't doubt that your phone is runing at 50 fps, but that app isn't running that game at it's proper refresh rate.
And I'm sorry. Don't take it personal. I'm just a fighting game NUT, and play this game pretty regularly, so it's hard not to be nitpicky.
Here's hoping it gets there... and here's double hoping that someone decides to make a dreamcast emulator!

That little essay you typed out was complete bull****. The game runs perfectly. The tabbing thing is because I wasn't doing the move correctly also I'm not even sure if multi-touch works or not.
Well it is being rendered at 50 FPS. Anything after that is beyond my control.
In other words, the game is running great, and when I get my wii mote to play it, it will run well.

So... it running in slow mo is perfect?
... gotcha.
And the jab had nothing to do with you inputting it wrong. I didn't say input lag, I was talking about the animations on the screen. In that game, most jabs are between 2-4 frames, and in your video, even from eye sight it's beyond that. If you've ever even played these games before, you'd know that their arms don't just stick out for a few frames on jab. They go right back. That's why they're JABS and not medium or fierce strikes.
Anyways, game was slow. From reading the reviews, the application itself has quite a bit of work to do in general, making it especially weird that you're acting "butt hurt" over the game not running correct.
Glad you're enjoying the app., but I'm chiming in because the game obviously isn't running perfectly as stated, and it's a paid app., so false statements on it could potentially waste people's money.
But anyways yea... ummmmmm... I've said what I have to say, so, I'm just going to ignore your next troll post calling it bull****.
Sweet that they got the PS emu out finally, now they just need to get it to work with a ps3 controller and we are set.
btw, just because it tries for 50fps does not mean it is going to get it. If you watch the vid frame by frame you may be able to see if the fps drops below 15 or so

Download 7 zip, install
Extract the file you downloaded from popular rom site
You get a .bin.ecm file
then download ecm100
extract it
click the .bin.ecm file
drag it over unecm in the ecm100 folder
you get a .bin file
rename, play

Fruit Ninja THD is pretty nice, but not enough changes other than having multiplayer (it's splitscreen, not online)
I'm trying Samurai II: Vengeance right now. I'll report back after. So far it seems good.
@whosdaman: download the Tegra Zone app off the market.
Where do you get the Tegra Games?
Alright, I've had enough time to test out Samurai II: Vengeance and the verdict is it's good. It's not amazing, but it's very smooth, seems like an interesting story, and time consuming. However, it is the classic "Hit, hit, slice, roll" controls that can seem repetitive if that's not your style. Otherwise, for a gamer like myself I think it's worth it.
Fruit Ninja THD isn't worth the upgrade, but if you've never tried Fruit Ninja before, get THD immediately!

Holy crap does it work flawlessly. That is kinda pathetic for the Tegra 2 that our phones can play their games effortlessly with a hacked opengl driver. I thought the games would at least be chugging a little bit, but they are perfect. At least Samurai II: Vengeance is.

Agreed! Although, this shouldn't be shocking. The reason why these games are meant for dual-core is because of the CPU usage these games use, and their ability to drain the battery pretty quickly if you play for a decent amount of time. Our phones do run the games well, however it does take up a lot of CPU usage, which is why Dual-core is more efficient since it can balance the memory between each processor without stressing either one.
But, does that really matter if you're home or at work next to a charger trying to find a way to pass some time? Of course not. Which is why this is amazing.
Chainfire is a god. Almost makes me want to find out what phone he has and switch to that. He just singlehandedly saved Android a HUGE amount of fragmentation. Seeing developers make games and apps that could only run on a specific hardware setup was worrying to me more than any other sort of fragmentation.

Did the news get around about a guy named butcher pete?
i figured everything out...i started over by restoring my nandroid backup...im running urbanlegend rom and i think it already has journaling on (im not sure and I don't know how to check if its on or not)...everything I flashed the zip for the "journaling on", my phone bootlooped...so i restored my old backup and just ran the app and everything works perfectly now...the chainfire app will works now and i am currently playing samurai ( a bit repetitive but a great game)
[email protected] i think this chainfire guy might have solved the android gaming issue also (hopefully)...being able to play games for different processers is awesome and i hope our galaxy s can keep up with the new processers and games that come out next year
the lack of a nvidia chipset is the only bump that is stopping me from getting a Galx2
Today I found something interesting happened to my phone it was running buttery smooth like it should be (821), and most of all the game i play everyday wasnt lagging at all, PUBG
Solution: DO NOT USE SMART CLEANING app or any other kind of it, your phone will start running smooth in next 3 4 days or maybe less.
Try this and share me your experiences.
Comment to let me know you're trying this.
Thanks. I'll give it a try and see if it makes a difference, because the amount of lag I experience while playing Cytus II is unbearably bad and makes the game nearly unplayable.
So dont use anything at all and itll work smooth? ok ill try that
Hi
Are you referring to the Smart Doctor build in app?
Did you disable or uninstall it?
It's been 3 days and I've reached a verdict. Doing as the OP said actually made games run better. By that, I mean I disabled Smart Cleaning via LG Package Disabler and deleted Google Files Go.
I'm not kidding about this helping. Cytus II is playable now at full 1440p 60fps, with very few lagspikes. Other games I've played, like Alto's Odyssey, run somewhat better as well.
Go try it out yourself, it may help a lot!

After a factory reset a couple days ago the antutu graphics benchmark got noticeably choppier, especially the "marooned" scene which was previously completely fluid. That was a disappointment since that was one of the reasons for going through that process! I've now removed Google files go and I will see if that makes a difference, I hope it does. If so, thank you in advance.
Btw I think you meant "1440p" (QHD) not "2160p", that's 4k! ?

That was a disappointment since that was one of the reasons for going through that process! I've now removed Google files go and I will see if that makes a difference, I hope it does. If so, thank you in advance.
Btw I think you meant "1440p" (QHD) not "2160p", that's 4k! ?

Yeah, that's right. Thanks for pointing that out!
This is serious guys, I deleted Smart Cleaning by ADB and my gaming experience increase magically, Shadowgun Legends can run quite good with Ultra high 60fps setting, it couldn't do that before. Unbelievable
PS: Tested only with latest Android 7.0
I have zero lag and i use smart doctor every other day.
Matt.

Well, two weeks from when i see this thread and i stop using SmartDoctor / SmartCleaning app, just to say, this guy is right, using SmartDoctor / SmartCleaning app will (somehow, and i dont know how and why) make you phone laggy and in my tests if i open it like between 2 or 3 days and make a clean all UI and the app frezzes and i need to wait almost 1 minute to phone get out of the app and all be OK again.
So, my test really gives reason to this guy and i will delete the app from the phone, and i recomend all people with rooted G6 to do the same and use CCleaner instead to clean cache from apps and so on...
to the guy who discover the guilty of the lag: i cant pay you a beer, but you will be my hero forever.
Not working for me unfortunately... Still quite a bit of lag playing heavier games like csr2, Rr3 (practically unplayable), hungry shark world ?
I've had the phone since September last year and I don't think I've used it for more than 10 times. It lags anyway. Lowering the resolution does wonders, but it has some bugs that I don't like so I've switched back to lag.

If you are rooted, I highly recommend installing the new Adreno 530 driver, there is a decent improvement in games and definitely in Antutu...
does this stil work as of now?
This reads like bull****. What is "smart cleaning"? Is it supposed to be an app? The instructions are super unclear.
Smart Doctor cannot be disabled either. You can just disable it running in the background.
